This is my go to place. There are 4 or 5 dishes that I can't get enough. Lunch prices are insanely low and occasionally the are some treasures served like egg foo yung, ma po tofu, or sprouts at lunchtime. Dinner prices are higher but several seafood dishes are served for the dinner price. It's not elegant or gourmet but way better the most ratings. So I wouldn't say this is the greatest Asian buffet out there. However, it's a lot cheaper than most of them so not really complaining there. If you want the best quality, come here right as they open at 11am. What is nice is they price to go orders by weight. They do charge a bit extra if you have seafood, but it's nice they even have a to go option. Local Asian buffets nowadays are all hit or miss. This one is no exception. The food was actually really good today at Asian Star Buffet- Sawmill/Festival Place. (My better half suggested it, which is super rare, so I rolled with it.) They kept bringing giant trays of fresh hot food out; the cooks must've been in a good mood. Ok, so not everything was stellar. But their potsticker dumplings are always so good when fresh, and I couldn't stuff enough of their thick with ingredients hot and sour soup, Rangoon crab purses, golden chix wings and garlic green beans into my mouth. Honestly I don't understand why this place is rated so low. Is it the best Chinese food I've had? No but for what it is it is good. We went for the lunch buffet on Sunday, for 4 people with drinks it came out to about $64. I'm not sure if that included a child discount or not, didn't check. The food is warm when you get it and they constantly replace items. The selection isn't the biggest but what they have is good. It's your typical buffet, yes the carpets are a little dirty and the booths could probably use some updating but it is fine. read more

This isn't the fanciest of buffets I've seen, but I certainly don't think it deserves a one or two stars. We were greeted by very friendly servers and sat down at a booth immediately. I took a look around each buffet line before filling up my first plate. They have a good selection of different types of chicken - all of which tasted great and had plenty of sauce. Some of the more typical American food containers were empty, like pizza and French fries, but who gets that at a Chinese buffet anyway?? I liked all of my items, but some of the chicken wasn't very warm. I get a little nervous about shrimp and fish at buffets because I don't know how long they've been sitting out, so I stayed away from it. My boyfriend enjoyed his meal too, although he thought the stuffed mushrooms weren't as fresh. The waitress tended to our table often and gave us the check with ease. I see why this place has low stars. A friend and myself went there. She is handicapped & they have no way to open the door for handicapped people, which is a serious problem. Also, she is on crutches. The floor where the food is, is far too slippery for someone on crutches. When we entered the woman told us to follow her. She didn't even take us directly to the table! She took us 3/4 of the way & started walking away without even telling us where to sit! I had to ask her WHERE we were supposed to sit. We get the food. The pork fried rice was completely bland. Sesame chicken was fine. The pork egg roll was horrendous. It was a cabbage roll with 3 pieces of diced pork. The sweet bread was OK, I'd never had that before. I have been coming here all my life. Wonderful food options, everything is very flavorful and they offer diversity within their options. The service I have always enjoyed, they get your drink choice then you are free to go eat, you come back to your table and your drinks are there. My mom loves the tea. This place caught my eye as it's been years since I've visited a Chinese food buffet. The placed was packed so I couldn't take pics of the food inside as it would've been rude. The atmosphere was nice and from what I could see the place was clean. The food was "meh". I tried a variety of dishes such as honey chicken, chicken with broccoli, pepper steak with onion, egg roll, tempura chicken, potatoes, lo mein, and pork fried rice. Whew! I paid $24.61 in total. It's hard to find a really good Chinese buffet these days. I hadn't been to Asian Star since I was a kid. They do offer quite a variety of options. But as far as flavor, most of the dishes lacked flavor. The items that stood out were the sesame chicken and the fried chicken wings. The customer service was just okay. We didn't get refills until we were almost done eating. I feel bad for the fish in the fish tank because the tank is super dark and cloudy. Makes you think twice about eating here. The hot mustard was in packages, that was a relief. No duck sauce for chicken. One act almost made me think about walking out. I mentioned THE TEMPERATURE to the cashier and she just shrugged her shoulders. Tables were not clean, they were greasy. Waitress uses same wipe cloth everywhere. One time the towell fell on the floor and she picked it up and wiped the booth seat then table. Same wiper that was picked up off the floor earlier. Then used same wiper to clean the buffet. Went there the other night and needed to first use the restroom. I couldn't do it, it was so filthy. (Sorry to be so graphic) but there were full toilet bowls, toilet paper trails, and brown smudges on the floor. The stink was horrid. I had to leave right away. And as I passed the kitchen I could see that the kitchen too was dirty and disorganized. I decided to try to put that unappetizing experience out of my mind because I was starving. I was surprised to see that about half of the food trays at the buffet were totally empty, including the soups!! And there were no workers out there to signal to in order to get the food refilled. The food that was there was sparse and dried out. I heard from a reliable source (ex- employee) that they don't throw anything away; they just dump the leftovers in pots and recycle them for days. Yuck!! I just couldn't dine there. I complained to the lady at the desk who told me to keep my voice down and was very rude. She crossed off my check and literally thrust it at me and said, "What more do you want"? I should have said "an apology for wasting my time", but I never have a quick answer when I need it. To add insult to injury, they recently raised their buffet price by $8.00!! I suggest you save your money and your health and dine elsewhere. read more

Used to be our favorite place for a Chinese buffet. We went recently and most of the steam table offerings were empty or in poor condition. The bathrooms were horrendous I couldn't even use them. They're not normally great but these are really bad. I asked the manager to go back and look what she did and she just shrugged her shoulders like nothing wrong with that. But when I read all the bad reviews I was like I'm going to still try it, and I'm glad I did because it was AMAZING! The server was super nice and really attentive on our refills! Very typical Asian buffet. Some of the entrees are a bit sketchy. A lot of the chicken entrees look the exact same as the last one. Also, I found some are kind of chewy, and I don't quite enjoy that texture of chicken. Servers are always friendly enough. Another thing I noticed that was bothersome was that they literally waited until something was completely empty or old looking to replace it. Fine. That's all there is to it. Food isn't piping hot even though I went during peak dinner time. There isn't a lot of variety either (3 rows of food f-- 4 if you count a row of fruit and like twoish options for dessert). I probably wouldn't come again because for $17 you could have a pretty nice dine in elsewhere, but it is notably SIGNIFICANTLY better then almost every other buffet in the area- both in experience and quality of the food. In relation to other places it'd be 4 stars in the Columbus area. Service is around although they don't check in or make conversation. I wish they had sushi or some other specialty but it's the most standard old chinese buffet experience. It's more of a $9 buffet in my opinion, but with limited great options in Columbus-- this would hit the spot for buffets the best.
