Well, this was not the experience we anticipated, as we had dined here previously and had a great meal. When we first heard about the restaurant and their outdoor grill experience we wanted to try it, but we were hesitant because it is very pricey, Since it was a milestone birthday for my husband who happens to love grilled meats and veggies, we decided to splurge and invited our family to join us. The pre-tax and tip price is $30 per person more than the typical Brazilian steakhouse that offers all you can eat picanha and many other meats. This Argentine style grilled experience was not offered as all you can eat although it was advertised as eat while it lasts which is somewhat misleading. Service was meh, friendly but not very attentive. To say our entire party was disappointed is an understatement. read more

We started off with freshly baked Focaccia Bread Board app. Soft on the inside crispy on the outside just enough for the two of us and cocktails. I wanted to make a reservation for dinner but it was difficult online. It is prepaid and it seems for the 5 course dinner, if you reserve for 2, you cannot have 2 different entrees. I decided to do lunch instead. There was a question if we were celebrating anything and I noted that it was my birthday. However, none of the staff greeted me when we inform them of my reservation. What's the point of asking the occasion? LOL. Aside from online reservation issue, it seems that dinner is outdoor and it's summertime. I also read somewhere that there were flies everywhere, so maybe we will try dinner when the weather is cooler. The Sunday menu is very limited but I saw a huge fish on another table and was told by our server that the Yellowtail Fish is their special for the day. It's good for two and comes with rice & beans, Shrimp ceviche, fried plantains & pickled veggies. We ordered that plus their house made focaccia bread. The bread was sliced into 5 pieces and we finished them all, it was that good! As for the fish, wow, so flaky and flavorful. We were told to eat the plantains with the ceviche and it was the perfect balance of the saltiness and acidity of the ceviche and the mild sweetness of the plantains. Simply delicious! Hubby and I had dinner at Asado Life in St. Augustine one Saturday evening and were impressed by the overall dining experience. Though I will say that this might not be for everyone. I think for what they are trying to present, it was very successful. If this is your kind of thing (dining outdoors, great food and service), it's pretty wonderful. So the outdoor space is gorgeous, but not for everyone. You are out in the elements: it might be too hot, too cold, too windy, etc... So if you are looking for more of a fine dining experience, best to opt out of seating outdoor. While we really enjoyed our food and service, we did find the bugs an issue for us. It's not much the restaurant could do... I mean, it's Florida and a warm early spring evening, there will be bugs. Some experienced patrons brought their own bug spray (soooo smart). So I'd still give it a five star review because the food was excellent (we pre-ordered/shared a tomahawk ribeye, it was delicious) and the view was indeed beautiful. The seating area is so inviting with the warm strung up lights. We loved the ambiance, just not the bugs. Next time, we'll know to bring bug spray. read more

In case of bad weathered there are clear curtains, which was great since we sat outside and there was a short rain. Full service bar. We had the homemade bread, which reminded me of the bread over in Europe. For dinner, we had lobster ravioli, and the trio platter. The chicken was by far the best thing on the plate steak was really good and the chorizo was meh. Chorizo flavor was good, but it was dry and grainy. The server did not take care of her tables well. Come to think of it she never checked on us. Not once. I noticed long pauses when she was not in her zone. My water ran dry twice. I actually had to wave her down to get attention at our table. She took a long time to get boxes for the food and then the check and then to get the check taken care of. Found this place during our visit to St. Augustine, it's very nicely decorated and loved the view of the water. The outside bar and seating are big and spacious. Indoors has a bar as well and a good amount of seats. We arrived and outdoors was completely empty and plenty of empty tables inside however we were asked if we had reservations, which we didn't so they told us we could sit at the bar if there were seats available, which there weren't any. Went back to hostess and pointed out the amount of empty tables indoors and outside. Anyways we found a table at the bar area that was being emptied and asked to sit there and were told we couldn't bc it wasn't clean!! At this point I was ready to leave but husband was hungry so I had to sternly ask "well where CAN we sit?" It was just two of us can't imagine it's so difficult to find us a spot geez. Finally got the darn bar table and ordered their soup of the day which was a beef and vegetable soup and it was very tasty and a good size portion too. They have a dish called trio which is steak, chicken and chorizo and comes with a salad and potato salad. It was a good size portion so we shared that. I really like the location, decor and food was ok, not amazing. I'd definitely come back and give it another try perhaps order something else on the menu and MAKE RESERVATIONS for sure! A friend told me about this place and I wasn't familiar with the location. But, the concept seemed pretty cool. The menu is simple- everyone gets the same appetizers, veggies, and desserts. The salad course offers an option between caesar or house. The fun comes in with regard to the entree. The main courses include the asado trio (chimichurri chicken, chorizo sausage, picanha), tomahawk, seafood, lamb duo, pork chop, or vegetarian. On my first visit, we got the asado trio and on my second visit, we got the tomahawk. The meats were delicious! We loved watching the grill master cook and we could taste the time and attention that went into the preparation of the entrees. Portions were large, particularly the tomahawk. We, along with the other patrons around us, packed up the rest of the steak and took it to go. The atmosphere here is laid back and inviting. You can't beat the water views with the smell of meat grilling in the air! It seems that rain or sun, they use the outdoor seating as the second time visiting it was during a monsoon and they still had the dinner outdoors. Thankfully, the area is big enough so none of us got wet. In addition to the outdoor dining space, there's a very nice indoor dining room with a bar. I hope to attend one of their chef's tables or a nice lunch inside to try those experiences as well. read more

Asado Life has been one of those places I've been wanting to check out for the very longest. The restaurant layout is pretty well thought out. Walking into this place is very inviting, with nice decor. There is a bar inside once you walk in. And if you prefer to eat outside, they have 2 dining option, one exclusive and one of a Gaucho style flare. And yes, there is also a bar outside as well. From what I was told, Asado Life is a scratch kitchen, which I am a big fan of. Foods seems to taste way better when made from scratch. The fresher, the better. Their menu is not too complicated and straightforward. Food impressions - Asado Trio (5/5): I really like the flavors of all three meats, the steak, the chorizo and the chicken. - BBLT Sandwich (4/5) This sandwich was just okay to me. Even though the bread was made fresh, I felt it overpowered the sandwich concept, which was "where is the bacon or lack of". I could hear the bacon crying "Dufuq Bro, I am the star of this sandwich, not you Mr Bread". Secondly, even the veggies overpowered the bacon. We all know folks that when it comes BLT, the Bacon is KING of the sandwich - Side House Salad (5/5): Perhaps one of the best I've ever eaten had in my life. It was nice and so fresh. The dressing was fabulous. I could eat a few more of these bowls. Deeeelicious. - Potato Salad (3/5) This was the side choice that came with the Asado Trio. The potato salad was abit on the bland side for me and even though it came with sweet drop peppers which I am told would liven up the flavor. It did to a small degree but not enough to wow my palate. I had heard about this restaurant for a while, and finally got there last night with a large party. I had the prime sirloin strip with french fries and a duck butter reduction. Probably one of the best pieces of perfectly grilled meat I've ever had in my life. Shared a salad, which was outstanding. Everybody in our party enjoyed their meat entrées, all requested temperatures of the individual meats prepared perfectly. You probably need GPS to find a restaurant, but once there the view of the inland channel and the marinas around, spectacular view. Staff was super attentive. The male bathroom was beautiful. I ordered a disgusting duck liver spread. It was my mistake, but the nice waitress also didn't explain that the order wasn't duck meat but the innards. I couldn't eat it and complained to the waitress who shrugged it off. Later, a manager came over and offered to replace the meal. At that point the others in my party were done eating AND she didn't indicate a new dinner would be free, so I declined. When the bill came--almost $300 for four people--I was charged for my revolting order. They were within their rights to charge me, but it was tacky to do so. They came out with a lobster ceviche and it was fresh and bright. We had our kids and extended family with us. If you bring your kids male sure they have something to occupy their time.
