Great and imaginative menu. Cute spot. Didn't have reservations so sat at the bar. Was met by a super friendly bartender that took good care of us. Menu was thru a QR code...ugh! But luckily they provided an iPad with the menu loaded so it came in a larger format. Started with a Cops de Garcia red wine, then a Gillis con bacalao, followed by a duck paella and a carrier's de cardo. All were delicious with presented beautifully. Each dish had subtle and unique flavors that blended well together. The portions were on the small side but great nonetheless. An enjoyable evening!
We came in for dinner and although we did not have a reservation, they are able to take us without a wait. The place is small and feels like you're walking through a labyrinth. It has a very intimate feel, and they have interesting photography and artwork on display. Our server was friendly and was able to give great recommendations about the menu. One of my favorite things was that the wine menu is on a tablet, you can select the wine and read about the various notes and see what foods will pair well with it. Based on the server's recommendations, we ordered the duck and mushroom paella along with the classic seafood paella. The duck mushroom paella was so delicious and flavorful. I think we should have tried the seafood paella first, since it seemed underwhelming after eating the mushroom duck paella. The tortilla de Betanzo was simple and delicious. The scallops were accompanied by an amazing sauce, that left me wanting more. For dessert, we ordered the tarta de queso ahumado, such unique and well blended flavors. The food was a bit pricey but the quality was great.
Arume is one of the popular spots in Barcelona for paella, but specifically the duck paella. It's special because you don't often find a duck paella on the menu. Be aware that you don't get the socarrat (crispy bottom) that many paellas have, but the flavor itself is still worthwhile. The restaurant is located along some "sketchy" alleys, but just head straight here and out. Once inside, it's led into multiple rooms into the back that feels like an underground cave. To start off, we had some Bread (€1.50), Butifa Croquettes (€3/pcs), and Bay Scallop (€7.50/pcs). The bread came with a tube of olive oil, which was pretty cool way to be served. The croquette and scallop were both good, although quite pricey for each item. For main entrees, we shared the Iberian Pork (€22.50) and Duck Paella (€18.50). Both of these dishes were incredibly flavorful and delicious. The sauce on the dish was savory and this meat was so tender. The paella was also full of flavor balanced with the cream mixture. It's more similar to a porridge consistency, but still so tasty. This dish is just so unique that you need to try it for yourself. Overall, delicious food, dim-lit environment, and friendly customer service. It's a pricier meal, but everything we had was delicious.
The service here was so wonderful. We loved Emmy! The location is not great and it was hard to find the place, but worth looking for. We tried the octopus and the tortilla de patata and liked both. We loved the duck paella! We also had the marisco paella but two out of four of us did not love it. Overall it was great and we'd love to come back!
Skip this place. First time in Barcelona, super excited to try seafood Paella in Spain. Worst paella I've ever had, flavor was awful. Also worst and most expensive meal I had in Barcelona. We had a paella cooking class scheduled elsewhere that week, I was going to cancel thinking if this is what Paella tastes like in Spain no thanks, thankfully the paella we made in class was delicious, thus confirming it's just this place that has bad paella. I think people see the good reviews and feel bad leaving an honest one, but it was so disappointing I feel it's only fair to honestly warn others because we wish we skipped this place. Also Sangria is flavorless due to being watered down.
One of the best meals I had in Barcelona. There are so many tapas and paella spots that it's hard to find one that really stands out, but I was wrong. Everything I had at Arume stood out. From the layout of the place (there was clear glass over a well that you walk over as decoration) to the music choices, the vibes were just on par. We asked the waiter to choose a white and red for us that she recommended. Each bottle she chose for us was delicious and right on the nose of what we had wanted. Appetizers -- We got the baked scallops (comes 2 per order) and the calamari. Both were flavorful and delicious. Main course -- Get the duck paella! If nothing else, I hope you at least try that. The duck paella is nothing I had like before. There were duck chunks, the flavor was on point and not too salty, and the cream on top helps balance out the flavors. The waiter said it was a single person portion, but we weren't too hungry and had order a lot of apps, along with fried pumpkin, that it was just the right size for 4 people. Dessert -- We were recommended the cheesecake brulee. It was not too sweet, nice and fluffy. Highly recommend making reservations to this place if you're traveling to Barcelona!
One of the highest Yelp ranked places in Barcelona and I know why. The food is delicious, the staff are full of smiles and the price is very reasonable. It's a cute restaurant with a warm environment as soon as you walk in. Items we tried: scallop- wow, fresh and they top it off with something crunchy with a little sauce. Fantastic! Duck paella - first time eating duck paella and absolutely delicious! Bread - bread is fresh and great tasting olive oil to go with it. Simple yet delicious.
We were SO excited to try this, but had an odd experience. The octopus appetizer was pre-cooked; I know this because the flavor was excellent but it was barely warm AND lightly fried. I even had a cold bite. The scallop I received was raw. The second one tasted like vanilla instead of truffle. The croquet was nice but I personally did not care for the flavor. The duck paella was actually not good- too little duck, too rich. Maybe it's me- I did not enjoy the flavor at all. The wine tablet was very cool; lots of details on the wines; loved that! The ambiance was just weird. I felt scared walking away from the restaurant- creepy guys walking around and women in full burkas. I don't know what has happened to this area of town, but I no longer feel safe here. I don't understand how this place is so well regarded on TripAdvisor or here. Contrary to popular opinion, Arume was pretty mediocre to me. Perhaps I had high expectations for this and it fell short of my expectations or I just ordered the wrong items. I may have not been impressed with my meal here, but other than that the service and hospitality made my experience quite pleasant. We made reservations for 8pm on a Wednesday night. Upon arrival, I was relieved we made reservations because the restaurant seemed rather small, but we soon found out that there's an extensive back area to the restaurant. We ordered the octopus tempura, ceviche, seafood paella and 2 drinks to share. I didn't love the texture of both the ceviche and octopus, but the shining factor of both dishes were the sauces drizzled on top of it. They really elevated the dish much more and helped the flavors of the seafood shine. A lot of people recommended the duck paella, but we opted for seafood paella just because of personal preference. Maybe that's where we went wrong, because I thought the paella was just average. The drinks, on the other hand, were delicious! I would come back here just for the blackberry mojito.
This is a cute tapas bar in a gritty part of town. It looks small at first glance, but there are a few additional rooms in the back. I had the seared tuna and fried octopus appetizers. Both were pretty good, but I thought the yuzu parmentier that came with the fried octopus had a funny taste and was unnecessary (1 star off). The grilled giant scallop was my favorite, as it had a ton of flavor and the sweet corn crema on top added a nice touch. The duck and mushroom paella had a wonderful umami flavor, but had very few pieces of duck and lacked the crispy bottom for a great paella (1 star off). The smoked cheesecake was just okay -- I did not detect any smoke flavor and it seemed days old. Overall, it was a nice place for lunch if you are in the area, but with all the tapas bars around, I probably would not make a special trip here.
Came here based on the other Yelp reviews. The restaurant has more seatings in the back. Ordered the duck paella as based on the other Yelp reviews. TBH, it's a little bit too heavy to eat. The scallops are really good, highly recommend them. The octopus was fried, not the raw ones that I was thinking. Interesting window to look down at the skeleton. The service is friendly and accommodating.

Been here both times I was recently in Barcelona and the food does not disappoint. I loved the oysters and the octopus I had as starter as well as the steamed baby artichokes. Most people get the paella but I opted for the oxtail on polenta the last time I was there and it was delicious. I've had the paella before and it's tasty but it's a bit too filling for me. As for drinks, I've had the berry mojito before and I found it too sweet because they put sugar in it and it doesn't really melt so you're left with grains of sugar at the bottom of your glass. I much prefer the sangria which is half the price and is delicious with tons of fruit to almost make you feel healthy for drinking it. read more
Arume is definitely an amazing Yelp find because traveling with my friend who is a vegetarian, it was difficult to find a restaurant who would serve Paella for only one person, even though I was willing to pay for a two person portion. Regardless, even though I was pleased that I could order paella for one, the service, was superb to match the food. I started off with the crispy pulpo with a potato foam and then had the seafood paella. To drink, I ordered several blackberry mojitos, and they were absolutely divine. I enjoyed the crispy pulpo a lot but the star of the dining experience was definitely the paella. With clams, squid, mussels, and shrimp, it was full of flavor and the perfect amount for one person. This is why I will always read reviews and utilize Yelp when I'm traveling for food eats, because this was listed as a Yelp Elite favorite when I looked when I was relaxing one morning in bed at the hotel. read more
Paella, more like paYAYella! Seriously, your tastebuds are in for a real treat here! The Sangria is spectacular & both the seafood and the duck paella are deeeelicious! Fair warning, this place isn't located in the most glam neighborhoods. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't exactly call the street we walked down to get here well lit so you wouldn't expect the restaurant to be as quaint as it was. After dining here, I would definitely say it's a hidden gem- shout out to Yelp for helping us find it! When ordering, I'd keep in mind that the paella portions are meant to be shared. I highly recommend you get one seafood and one duck. They were both so good that I couldn't decide which was my favorite. Be sure to grab a pitcher of sangria to go along with your meal. After all, you ARE in Spain! One thing I would suggest is to get reservations but if you don't have one, don't fret. This place is a cute little restaurant hidden in the streets of Barcelona. My fiancé and I came here for dinner during the week after reading all the good reviews online but to be honest I wasn't 100% sold on the place after eating. My favorite part about the whole meal was my cocktail. I ordered the blackberry mojito and it was pretty good! The presentation of it was very nice as well. My fiancé had a tap beer and enjoyed it too. We came here for the paella but it was definitely not the best paella I've ever had. We ordered the seafood paella without the squid and the portion size was not that big. You would think that since we did not get the squid they would give us something more of one of the other things that came on it (clams, muscles, prawns) but no they did not but they did charge us the same amount. That to me is just bad customer service. The portion size itself is for two but to be honest I could have eaten 3/4 of that portion myself. We definitely left feeling hungry. I have had paella all over and one thing I never feel is hungry after. Overall, I think there are better places especially in Barcelona where you can get paella (taste-wise and portion size). read more

Arume is without question the best restaurant we ate at during our trip to Spain. The food was phenomenal, so I'll jump right into it: Food: To start, my girlfriend and I split their scallops appetizer. The presentation was beautiful, the texture was perfect, and the flavor was nothing short of delicious. For the main course, I had my eye on the Seafood Paella (when in Barcelona right?), and thought that would be enough, but thankfully, my girlfriend said we should go big or go home, so we got the Duck Paella as well. BEST DECISION EVER! I didn't think I would, but I definitely preferred the Duck Paella over the seafood version. That's not to say seafood wasn't delicious, because it was, but the Duck Paella was in a whole other league. All of that duck fat just got absorbed into the rice, and the Padron peppers serve as the perfect compliment. We would have been content with one, but it was too good to not finish (we also didn't have a fridge in the hotel), so I plowed through it, but it was so worth it. Drinks: Spain is known to have good wine, and you can still have a glass here if you like, but if you are not ordering a blackberry mojito as well, then you are doing yourself a disservice. This drink is what they are known for, and it goes down real easy. An absolute must-order! Ambiance: Quiet, romantic, soothing. Those would be the words I would use to describe this restaurant.. This is definitely not a tourist trap and feels very Spanish. The service was impeccable and everyone was extremely hospitable and friendly. The lighting is perfect, and it's just the right size so that it's not overly loud. Price: For the quality and level of cooking done in the place, this restaurant is a very good value. If you're a tourist, walk past Las Ramblas and find your way to this restaurant. I assure you that you will be glad you did. Pro tip: Because this place is so awesome, a reservation is highly encouraged, especially on the weekend. If you're a tourist and don't have phone service, the owners are very quick to respond to e-mail if/when you can connect to wifi. Overall, my experience here was amazing. This was definitely the site of the best meal I ate in Spain, and I am envious of the locals who are able to eat here on a regular basis. If you are like me, and are visiting Barcelona for the first time, there are two things you have to do before you leave. See the Sagrada Familia and have dinner at Arume. read more

My Wife and I had the best time here and it is so good off the beaten path of the more touristy places. I am certain that everything that comes out of their kitchen is amazing. Prior to being sat I got to see the Chef prepare plates as they were headed out to customers, wow the precision and attention to detail was amazing. I am about to have desert and will update but this place is amazing. read more

I went here in hopes of getting some good paella. Unfortunately, the duck paella and seafood paella we ordered was not that great. The seafood paella was too salty, but the duck paella had some nice flavors to it (some Asian flavors). The most memorable dish was by far the dessert- Torrija de Manuel with galician cream ice cream as it had these little clusters that would pop in your mouth like pop rocks. read more
To say this place was amazing would be an understatement, but it truly was. Everything from the customer service to the restaurant itself. When first walking in I was greeted with a warm welcome from the bartender, then was promptly giving a seat. Where I ordered of course you guessed it the paella. Boy did it not disappoint. It had large shrimp clams, mussels over a bed of Spanish rice and served in a rustic looking pan. OMG was it amazing! If I could give this place extra points I would. Little did I know at the time it would be the best Paella that I would eat in all of Spain, well at least on that particular trip. As with my excitement I forgot to add the fact that I also got an appetizer, the Crispy Galician Octopus what an addition to a beautiful meal. It was cooked to perfection. Big applause to the chef at this restaurant for a delicious meal. All in all it was a great meal and definitely a fixture on my future Barcelona trips. We came here just by accident. We were looking for paella and went to Cera. One of the owners, Ruben, came out to greet us. He was very warm and chatted with us. We told him that we wanted paella so he sent us to this place! The DUCK PAELLA is a MUST! Servers are very friendly and the desserts are yummy!!!! Desserts include coconut soup, Cookies with "violet" ice cream and a creme brûlée with a side of ice cream. read more
So, while in Spain, I googled best places for paella... this place came up.. I did read also you needed reservations, on a drunken whim we headed to arume. Cute place tucked away where you wouldn't expect! We were asked if we had reservations and we said no. He mentioned it would be 20 mins for bar seating. 17 minutes passed and we were brought to a cute table in the back! The servers were awesome. We got a bottle of white wine and they chilled it at the table for us. For dinner I of course had to try the paella. I got the seafood one/ I was soooo tempted to get the duck after reading the reviews! Seafood was delicious! Very tasty, generous serving and just delicious! My bestie got the artichokes in a carrot purée (forgot the name) they were great! We didn't get a dessert because we were so full! Overall a great spot! Super cute, and worthy of their 4.5 stars rating! Cute outdoor entrance as well. Bien trabajo Arume! read more

On the hunt for some good paella in Barcelona we chose this place based on reviews. Located away from the main tourist areas you walk the streets of El Raval to arrive at Arume feeling like a local. The lighting is soft and the décor simple. Staff was very friendly. Torn between the traditional seafood paella and the duck we decided to order both. I would pass on the seafood as the flavor of the seafood over powers everything else. The duck however was incredible and my favorite dish I had while in Spain. If dining as a couple I recommend a starter, sharing the duck paella and maybe a dessert. The portion of their paellas can feed two people. The menu is not traditional but in my humble opinion better than the places we visited around town. read more

Wow! Just landed in Barcelona and was starving! This place was close to our hotel and had stellar reviews, so we decided to give it a try. It's a small restaurant on a quiet street. We walked in without a reservation, but they took us anyways. Food was great! We had the baked scallops as an appetizer. The main dishes were the Duck Paella and Veal Steak and Potatoes! All 3 dishes were great! It's going to be hard to beat this place during our food adventures for the next 4 days! Might just have to go back again before we leave! Only small downside was the pricing was slightly on the higher side. Especially the appetizer. But you get what you pay for... read more

Probably my most favorite restaurant out of all the places we've been in Spain. The food was fantastic! We tried a few different dishes including the fried octopus, the ceviche, the beef tartar and the two paellas. We liked everything we tried. My most favorite was the duck paella. It was full of flavors. The presentations were beautiful and the service was great. Compared to the other restaurants we've been, Arume was a bit pricier specially considering the portions but the quality of the food makes up for that. #1 TIP: make a reservation or expect a long 30min-1hour wait. Visuals: at night time, you can't see the word "Arume" well but a line could indicate that you're in the right place. If not, there's a huge neon green heart outside of their restaurant. There's a bar area immediately to the right once you walk in as well as stairs to the back leading to another dinning area & restrooms. Note - they only have one unit restrooms. Food: the kimchi scallop apps were okay. The lamb entree was tender and tasteful, but very small portioned.These dishes aren't the "bang for your buck" kinda dishes. With just those two dishes, you would've spent a lot and still be hungry. Good thing my party also ordered their duck paella! Now this dish is worth every cent!!! It was very delicious and filling. If I had to go back, I'd only order their paella... and their blackberry mojito! It's a must try! It tasted so good that you'll want to order more. And be careful! The alcohol will creep up on you! Service: so my party made the mistake of not making a reservation. So obviously, we had to wait for about 45mins-1hour. They were very packed. The manager had great communication! He always made sure that we were up-to-date on the status of our table; when patrons were getting dessert or paying- approximately how much longer. We never had to check with him on how long. The servers were great! Always checking up if you need anything. Overall, my experience was great! Their service is A+! I just wish that I liked more of their food. I am sitting here at the table under the stairs, with a glass bottom looking down at the poor bastard who does not get to enjoy this food. First everyone here are so nice! The food is AMAZING! The BlackBerry mojito...I may get another, but because i did not make a reservation I need to leave by 9pm and need to make sure I have desert. My nephew and I thoroughly have enjoyed to pulp and foam appetizer. And the marisco paella for two...amazing. I had to edit because the cookie and violet ice cream is soooooo YUMMY!!!! read more

This was our first stop in Barcelona , and let me tell you this place is amazing . We had the yellow tail carpaccio to start with the steak tar tar . The best steak tar tar I've ever had hands down, & I have tried a lot of different steak tar Tar. It literally melts in your mouth . After that we had the mussels followed by the seafood paella . Really enjoyed this place and I recommend it . Cute interior . Great for a date or just friends too . Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Will be back if I have the chance read more

Looking for classic Spanish dishes with a bit of a spruce? Arume creates contemporary versions of the items you know and love. The sister of Cera 23, Arume tends to be the more trendy sibling, while still offering the family favorites (like the oh so easy drinking Blackberry mojito). Not sure which is more your style and pressed for time? Check out the menus online, and prepare yourself for a grueling decision. A little ways from the other more picturesque tourist areas, Arume is one of those restaurants you wouldn't likely stumble upon by accident. Be sure to make a reservation in advance, as space is at a premium. Inside, eclectic chairs are huddled together around close tables, to design a space that is both intimate and unabashedly cool. Servers scuttle about filling test tubes with olive oil and baskets with bread, meanwhile skirting between diners to deliver each plate as it is ready. Grab a drink and take your pick of the menu. While not every dish will knock it out of the park, they definitely bring a unique perspective. Take for example the crispy Galician octopus with paprika, potato foam and codium. During our time in Spain we must have had the octopus with paprika at least 4 or 5 times, and yet their take was totally original, giving the octopus a light fry to add texture. I'm not sure it is something that was missing from my fresh, tender cephalopod, but different for sure. Similarly, I've had burrata served a gazillion ways, yet their burrata salad with pomegranate, guacamole and hazelnut vinaigrette was completely distinctive. I kind of regretted not getting another and another... As for the entrees, I highly recommend the Pumpkin Ratatouille Lasagna with a bechamel tapenade, and poached BIO egg. Only my sense of common decency and wanting to maintain the appearance of decorum kept me from licking that bowl clean. While the Arume paella with Galician seafood was not my favorite of all time (I may just be partial to the sweeter Gulf seafood), it was flavorful and well executed. Be sure to save room for dessert as well, and possibly consider the baked apple with curry, dark beer sponge cake, and lime foam. It was a burst of flavor, and a stupendous representation of why any chef that finds nothing more interesting to offer than chocolate cake to put on his dessert list should be fired immediately. The other choices are no less innovative, flaunting ingredients like "violet" and "homemade quince jelly." Both Arume and Cera 23 are great values which manage to deliver excellent cuisine and a lot of originality. Buen provecho! read more

Definitely make your reservations they get busy and you don't want to miss out. The staff is wonderful everyone was very pleasant. We ordered several things off the menu because we wanted to try as much as we could. None failed to please each one has its own unique flavor and was delicious. I'm very excited to have gotten to try Arume and would recommend it to anyone visiting Barcelona!! read more

Unbelievable Duck paella! Must order that and the blackberry mojito, which takes this cocktail to a whole other level!!! Skip the seafood paella and go straight for the duck paella, never seen one before but this was an amazing dish! The sangria was not too far from the blackberry mojito, amazing flavors. read more
