Great and imaginative menu. Cute spot. Didn't have reservations so sat at the bar. Was met by a super friendly bartender that took good care of us. Menu was thru a QR code...ugh! But luckily they provided an iPad with the menu loaded so it came in a larger format. Started with a Cops de Garcia red wine, then a Gillis con bacalao, followed by a duck paella and a carrier's de cardo. All were delicious with presented beautifully. Each dish had subtle and unique flavors that blended well together. The portions were on the small side but great nonetheless. An enjoyable evening!
We came in for dinner and although we did not have a reservation, they are able to take us without a wait. The place is small and feels like you're walking through a labyrinth. It has a very intimate feel, and they have interesting photography and artwork on display. Our server was friendly and was able to give great recommendations about the menu. One of my favorite things was that the wine menu is on a tablet, you can select the wine and read about the various notes and see what foods will pair well with it. Based on the server's recommendations, we ordered the duck and mushroom paella along with the classic seafood paella. The duck mushroom paella was so delicious and flavorful. I think we should have tried the seafood paella first, since it seemed underwhelming after eating the mushroom duck paella. The tortilla de Betanzo was simple and delicious. The scallops were accompanied by an amazing sauce, that left me wanting more. For dessert, we ordered the tarta de queso ahumado, such unique and well blended flavors. The food was a bit pricey but the quality was great.
Arume is one of the popular spots in Barcelona for paella, but specifically the duck paella. It's special because you don't often find a duck paella on the menu. Be aware that you don't get the socarrat (crispy bottom) that many paellas have, but the flavor itself is still worthwhile. The restaurant is located along some "sketchy" alleys, but just head straight here and out. Once inside, it's led into multiple rooms into the back that feels like an underground cave. To start off, we had some Bread (€1.50), Butifa Croquettes (€3/pcs), and Bay Scallop (€7.50/pcs). The bread came with a tube of olive oil, which was pretty cool way to be served. The croquette and scallop were both good, although quite pricey for each item. For main entrees, we shared the Iberian Pork (€22.50) and Duck Paella (€18.50). Both of these dishes were incredibly flavorful and delicious. The sauce on the dish was savory and this meat was so tender. The paella was also full of flavor balanced with the cream mixture. It's more similar to a porridge consistency, but still so tasty. This dish is just so unique that you need to try it for yourself. Overall, delicious food, dim-lit environment, and friendly customer service. It's a pricier meal, but everything we had was delicious.
The service here was so wonderful. We loved Emmy! The location is not great and it was hard to find the place, but worth looking for. We tried the octopus and the tortilla de patata and liked both. We loved the duck paella! We also had the marisco paella but two out of four of us did not love it. Overall it was great and we'd love to come back!
Skip this place. First time in Barcelona, super excited to try seafood Paella in Spain. Worst paella I've ever had, flavor was awful. Also worst and most expensive meal I had in Barcelona. We had a paella cooking class scheduled elsewhere that week, I was going to cancel thinking if this is what Paella tastes like in Spain no thanks, thankfully the paella we made in class was delicious, thus confirming it's just this place that has bad paella. I think people see the good reviews and feel bad leaving an honest one, but it was so disappointing I feel it's only fair to honestly warn others because we wish we skipped this place. Also Sangria is flavorless due to being watered down.
One of the best meals I had in Barcelona. There are so many tapas and paella spots that it's hard to find one that really stands out, but I was wrong. Everything I had at Arume stood out. From the layout of the place (there was clear glass over a well that you walk over as decoration) to the music choices, the vibes were just on par. We asked the waiter to choose a white and red for us that she recommended. Each bottle she chose for us was delicious and right on the nose of what we had wanted. Appetizers -- We got the baked scallops (comes 2 per order) and the calamari. Both were flavorful and delicious. Main course -- Get the duck paella! If nothing else, I hope you at least try that. The duck paella is nothing I had like before. There were duck chunks, the flavor was on point and not too salty, and the cream on top helps balance out the flavors. The waiter said it was a single person portion, but we weren't too hungry and had order a lot of apps, along with fried pumpkin, that it was just the right size for 4 people. Dessert -- We were recommended the cheesecake brulee. It was not too sweet, nice and fluffy. Highly recommend making reservations to this place if you're traveling to Barcelona!
One of the highest Yelp ranked places in Barcelona and I know why. The food is delicious, the staff are full of smiles and the price is very reasonable. It's a cute restaurant with a warm environment as soon as you walk in. Items we tried: scallop- wow, fresh and they top it off with something crunchy with a little sauce. Fantastic! Duck paella - first time eating duck paella and absolutely delicious! Bread - bread is fresh and great tasting olive oil to go with it. Simple yet delicious.
We were SO excited to try this, but had an odd experience. The octopus appetizer was pre-cooked; I know this because the flavor was excellent but it was barely warm AND lightly fried. I even had a cold bite. The scallop I received was raw. The second one tasted like vanilla instead of truffle. The croquet was nice but I personally did not care for the flavor. The duck paella was actually not good- too little duck, too rich. Maybe it's me- I did not enjoy the flavor at all. The wine tablet was very cool; lots of details on the wines; loved that! The ambiance was just weird. I felt scared walking away from the restaurant- creepy guys walking around and women in full burkas. I don't know what has happened to this area of town, but I no longer feel safe here. I don't understand how this place is so well regarded on TripAdvisor or here. Contrary to popular opinion, Arume was pretty mediocre to me. Perhaps I had high expectations for this and it fell short of my expectations or I just ordered the wrong items. I may have not been impressed with my meal here, but other than that the service and hospitality made my experience quite pleasant. We made reservations for 8pm on a Wednesday night. Upon arrival, I was relieved we made reservations because the restaurant seemed rather small, but we soon found out that there's an extensive back area to the restaurant. We ordered the octopus tempura, ceviche, seafood paella and 2 drinks to share. I didn't love the texture of both the ceviche and octopus, but the shining factor of both dishes were the sauces drizzled on top of it. They really elevated the dish much more and helped the flavors of the seafood shine. A lot of people recommended the duck paella, but we opted for seafood paella just because of personal preference. Maybe that's where we went wrong, because I thought the paella was just average. The drinks, on the other hand, were delicious! I would come back here just for the blackberry mojito.
This is a cute tapas bar in a gritty part of town. It looks small at first glance, but there are a few additional rooms in the back. I had the seared tuna and fried octopus appetizers. Both were pretty good, but I thought the yuzu parmentier that came with the fried octopus had a funny taste and was unnecessary (1 star off). The grilled giant scallop was my favorite, as it had a ton of flavor and the sweet corn crema on top added a nice touch. The duck and mushroom paella had a wonderful umami flavor, but had very few pieces of duck and lacked the crispy bottom for a great paella (1 star off). The smoked cheesecake was just okay -- I did not detect any smoke flavor and it seemed days old. Overall, it was a nice place for lunch if you are in the area, but with all the tapas bars around, I probably would not make a special trip here.
Came here based on the other Yelp reviews. The restaurant has more seatings in the back. Ordered the duck paella as based on the other Yelp reviews. TBH, it's a little bit too heavy to eat. The scallops are really good, highly recommend them. The octopus was fried, not the raw ones that I was thinking. Interesting window to look down at the skeleton. The service is friendly and accommodating.
Just to echo the other reviews I definitely recommend a reservation. I walked here and I can say the walk was definitely a little shady. I saw someone get their stolen on the my way there (they were walking and holding it and it got snatched from their hands). As a single female by myself I stayed on guard and during my walk but I recommend either taking a cab or walking in a group to the restaurant. It's a very small place down a one way street which has alley vibes. The inside is small so those who didn't have reservations couldn't all fit in the bar area and many had to wait outside. I was immediately seated once I check in and staff was wonderful, they were all very kind. I tried the infamous duck paella and it was pretty delicious. I don't think it was the best thing ate in Spain but if I had a top 10 list it would be #6. I actually remember loving the Steak Tartar more than my Paella which surprised me since the Paella was so highly recommended. I don't think it was bad just a tad overhyped. read more

We came here on our first night to Barcelona for it's Paella. We ended up sitting at the bar, it is a small space and you definitely need a reservation, but we lucked out. The seafood paella was good, but on the salty side. The duck paella was great, just the right amount of salt. I'd recommend going here for the cute ambiance and fun staff. read more
Came here with reservations booked ahead of time for when the restaurant opened at 19:00 (7pm). The first part of the restaurant that you see next to the bar are for walk-ins but most of the restaurant is for rsvp. After passing the hallway after the bar, you see that the restaurant is actually quite big and structured like a home with a loft (more seating). Cute spot and decor, definitely watch your head when walking to the back of the restaurant (if you're seated there) since some parts are lower in ceiling height. Wasn't a problem for me because i am short, but i saw a few people almost walk into it from where i was sitting. Our waiter (unsure of his name; but he was bald and had a silver chain bracelet) was awesome and super friendly. He gave recommendations, was accommodating, and always had a smile on his face! It made everything even more pleasant with that positive attitude. They also had English menus so yay! We started off with our beers (Cana Estrella and Clara - my newfound favorite beer because it is mixed with lemonade/lemon soda)and still water (which they charge ya everywhere FYI 3€). We had a total of 7 dishes, 2 being an order of oyster each for 3.5€. There's also complimentary bread with their olive oil that is cutely places inside a tube with a cork. I wanted to take it home because of its cuteness lol. - Oysters (3.5€ a piece): these were large in size and very tasty with their saucy flavoring on top. - Steak tartare (12.5€): there were tiny mushrooms and bits of crispy rice-like pieces on top to add texture. The thin pieces of cracker helped with not making you too full with the appetizer, but definitely tasty with lots of garlic. Recommend ordering. - Sea bream Flame tatami (10€): came with seaweed, pickles, and salmon caviar. This dish was surprisingly delicious in flavor and texture! Almost reminds me of a Japanese dish with its flavoring. I loved the crisp of the flames top of the sea bream and the softness below it after. Definitely worth ordering. - Duck paella (16.5€): one of the only entrees/main dishes we ordered because we wanted to try other tapas. I took my friend's recommendation to this spot specifically because of this dish and was not disappointed. Definitely recommend ordering since most paella dishes in Barcelona have been quite mediocre. The rice was perfectly cooked, the duck pieces melted in your mouth and the flavoring was all there. My boyfriend and i devoured the whole pan easily - definitely recommended. - Torrija de Manuel with Galician cream ice cream (5.5€) this was bomb! It has a topping like creme brûlée with a soft bready/pudding texture underneath paired with a scoop of ice cream. Yummy in my tummy! Order if you have room for dessert! - Chocolate cookie with violet ice cream (6€): this dish was also yummy! The violet ice cream was new to my palette, but good and went well with the cookie bits. I love cookies so i definitely liked this dish, but wish it was a bit more soft. Overall, meal was great! They even surprised us with a birthday song and candle for my birthday. They also gave us a special complimentary digestive shot at the end and it was similar to the taste of a Bailey's Irish Car bomb. So make sure you mention upon reserving if it is for a special occasion. For the price of 64.5€, the dishes were worth every penny. Meals in Barcelona are a bit on the pricey side, but once you find a good spot, it will be well worth it. Thanks for the amazing service and food! Will be back :) read more

I understand that we dined at 10:30 pm and it's pretty late. BUT it should not be the reason for the waitress to treat us so badly. Service 0.5/5 0.5 is for the free drink we get after paying the check. We waited for 15 mins to order things and another group who came after us ordered before us. When we wanted to order more dishes, we have to ask her several times to order. And when we were paying, my friend had her card in her hands but the waitress PULL the card OUT rudely, without asking. Food was okay. 3.5 out of 5. Because the Paella was a bit salty and the cocktail tasted like a mocktail. Three of us paid 120+ Euros for this meal and we can get better service and tasty food in any other places in the world. So, warning to tourists: GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A TASTE OF RUDE SERVICE. read more

I was here three years ago and I said I had to come back here next time when in Barcelona! I started off with the blackberry mojito and it was as good as I remembered. They used fresh ingredients and they use brown sugar instead which I thought was interesting. For my main course I got the Duck Paella which was delicious. The flavor was very rich and the portion was generous. Didn't have room for desert but they gave me a coffee liquor shot on the house when checking out. One of my favorite places in Barcelona it's a must try! read more

This is a hidden GEM in Barcelona! I wanted to eat here every night of my stay! The restaurant has a cozy feel and the service was beyond helpful with the menu! From drinks, appetizers to entree and dessert I was in awe! This will always be my favorite place to stop by when I come into Barcelona! It's been only a week since I stopped by and I'm already missing that duck paella! Highly recommended!! read more

Came here on a Saturday night at 7:00pm with reservation. Waiter was really nice and honest about portion sizes. For party of 2, we ordered: Crispy octopus (potato foam, paprika oil and lime) - delicious; cooked perfectly Duck paella (with Padron peppers) - this was more like a risotto but very tasty and delicious. Dessert (chocolate cookie, noisette butter, berries, hibiscus, and violet ice cream) - loved it For drinks we ordered the sangria (just ok, I've had better) and the Blueberry Mojito (best cocktail in Barcelona). read more

This isprobably my favorite tapas and paella in town! Not to mention excellent service. The only Debbie downer was their sangria was on the lighter side with wine. Keep in mind if you and or your group doesn't have a huge appetite, (If you're a party of two) consider the paella for 1. The portion for one could really feed three. Enjoy! read more

This place is delicious! We had to wait about 15 minutes but it was well worth it. Have the blackberry mojito and the grapefruit margarita. We had the rib and the seafood paella. I dont know which was one better! The rib was a smaller portion but just enough to satisfy. read more

Note: The review below is based on the service and attitude of the staff and food. I came here without making a reservations. That was my mistake. Apparently you can call or email them. I don't have that information. I came here after reading great reviews about their duck paella on yelp and tripadvisor. I arrive around 8:20 pm and proceeded to wait. The manager (spanish male with beard) for assigning the table was extremely rude and actually told me and a bunch of couples to leave. However, after one of the waitress told him it was only two people, he told me he told me the seats at the restaurant was booked and that i could only sit at the bar. He said the wait could be 45 minutes to two hours. I said okay and proceeded to wait. I waited until 9:00 pm outside the restaurant (it was a chilly night but I was in Barcelona and figured i must try it). I was finally seated in a small space at the bar right next to the door. The manager informed me i had to finish by 10:15 pm because another group had those seats reserve (I highly doubt it. I had the worst seats in the house.) So every time the door opened (which was frequent because people were leaving and entering every minute, I could feel the cool breeze. It was very uncomfortable seating but i figured it was worth it for the food. I finally ordered the food after trying to waive down the waitress. The waitress did not feel comfortable serving us until she was almost done serving other groups. So I waited. I ordered the sangria, clams, veal ribs and duck paella. I enjoyed the food and drinks. The veal ribs and duck paella were both very flavorful. The paella had only small pieces of duck. I would probably order the seafood paella if i wanted more food. Before I left, I was given a complimentary shot of chocolate. Overall, the food was average. Not special. The wait and manager attitude is not worth coming a second time. read more

We enjoyed the sister restaurant Cera 23 more for their ceviche starters. The dessert here however is amazing! Don't skip out on that. Our second attempt at seafood paella in Barcelona! Much better than the other place we tried and I'd agree this is probably one of the best paella in the city? We also ordered the duck paella with mushroom which we actually thought it was more tasty than the seafood one. Among appetizers, our favorite was the crispy squid. Be careful about the neighborhood around the blocks though... definitely not the safest place. read more

This little restaurant was such a great find! The staff were super nice and the service was superb. The ceviche was absolutely phenomenal...I've never tasted those combinations of flavor before. The duck paella was finger linking good it's a must if you go. We'll definitely go again and recommend to everyone who comes! read more
After sifting through Yelp reviews, we settled on this restaurant for our last dinner in Barcelona. Boy, we weren't disappointed. We booked a reservation the day of for 7:30pm via email. Great service, good food, great ambiance. Food/Drinks: BABY SCALLOPS: They were aiight. Great presentation though. CRISPY OCTOPUS: Yum. Fried to the right degree of perfection. MUSSELS IN CURRY: The "Galician-Philippine" curry was unique and heightened the taste of the mussels. SEAFOOD PAELLA: Mmm was told this place had great paella. And yummm was Yelp right. Not a paella connoisseur but I thought it was delish. BLACKBERRY MOJITO: Bomb.com. Service: AMAZING service, from when we walked in to when we walked out. Host and waiters speak English. They give out complimentary alcoholic dessert drinks! Also, host personally thanked us as we left. Ambiance: Romantic. Best meal in Barcelona. Best meal during my whole Europe trip! The duck paella was the best and that garlic sauce just kicked it up a notch. It was moist, nowhere near dry, with a good amount of duck. Topped with green peppers and amazing flavor. The single portion was enough for 2 people. But I still wanted more because it tasted so good! And they don't have a 2 minimum person requirement to order paella! Also had the best sangria of my trip here as well. It was huge and lots of fruit and not at all expensive. It was my last night of my trip and very glad it was here. Amazing service as well. You can tell they really do take pride in the food they put out and the restaurant itself. Once I'm back in Barcelona, I'll be sure to come back! read more

Showed up without reservation around 7:45 on a Friday nights and they offered to sit us in the bar, which we accepted. When we were about to order, the charming host, a Kevin Kline lookalike mentioned he had had a cancellation and we got a table in one of the dinning rooms. It was very busy. Service was excellent. We ordered Thai mussels and roasted beet salad as appetizers. Both were fantastic, however, the beet salad had divine nuances in flavor, a home run. The bread was crusty and tasty, with a side of fruity olive oil. For main dish we ordered braised lamb and honey scented duck rice. The paella style duck rice had very, very little duck in it, maybe a couple of bites. I was unimpressed. The lamb roast was also rather plain, because the brown gravy that came with it was just bland. The foams and the green purée were very tasty, but not enough to save the lamb. It was a good experience in general, mixed bag. I would go back just for the beet salad. read more
The Duck Paella & Blackberry mojitos ~ I'd come back to Barcelona just for this. We tried paella all over Spain but never had anything close to the duck paella (the garlic aioli and mushrooms take it to another level). The blackberry mojitos were made from scratch, so so refreshing & flavorful. The thai/curry pasta was alright, nothing special. Please order the duck paella & blackberry mojitos, this will be the best meal of your life. read more

OMG! One of the nice highlight of my trip to Barcelona. This restaurant deserve a Michelin Star for creativity, taste, and phenomenal service. A must place to visit in Barcelona. the paella and the sangria are two must try. read more
This was overhyped to us. The duck paella and blackberry mojitos get a solid 4 stars, but everything else we tried was just ok. The steak tartare and scallops appetizers were passable, but nothing to rave about. The restaurant is cute and quaint, but a sketchy walk. Although we didn't feel particularly unsafe, the prices charged at the restaurant do not match the neighborhood. We have had far better meals in much better areas for less money. To top it off, we realized after paying that we were charged 3 euros for water we never had . I specifically did not ask for water, and it was never offered, since I read they charged 3 euros for tap water. We just stuck to wine and mojitos. Who wants to pay for tap water when you could drink wine instead? Since we had already paid, we just let it go, but check your bills! read more

We will never forget our experience at Arume. After reading all of the amazing Yelp reviews and being recommended by a friend, I convinced my friends that this was the restaurant we HAD to check out. Unfortunately, we arrived in Barcelona during the metro strikes, which meant that it took us about an hour to get to the location. That was already frustrating in itself. And of course, as soon as we found the place, there was a line out the door. Despite the intimating line, we snuck in and asked the waitress/hostess how long it would take. She immediately responded with, "When was your reservation?" After finding out that we didn't have one, she told us we could wait around for a seat at the bar, but there would be no estimate on time. Luckily, the manager came out and assured us that he would do everything in his power to find us a seat. An hour went by, and finally, we were seated (yes, we waited an hour...). By this time, my hangry phase had passed...I was just exhausted. My table quickly ordered our appetizers and seafood paella, and before we know it, the octopus, prawns, and bread basket were in front of us. The bread basket included a "test tube" of olive oil, which I thought was cute. The prawns dish was tasty and the prawns themselves were of decent size. They were perfectly crispy and had good flavor. But the winner of the appetizer round would have to be the octopus. We have never had such an amazing appetizer. The octopus literally melted in your mouth. There was none of that chewiness that everyone hates. Hands down, the best octopus I have ever had. If we had known how big the seafood paella was, we probably would've ordered two (but I guess more room for dessert, right?). There was three of us, so the dish didn't last long as we devoured this delectable rice plate. The seafood again was nicely prepared. Spanish rice is something that I love and Arume's didn't disappoint. For dessert, we ordered the cookie with ice cream and our waiter's favorite dessert (I forgot what it was called). Both were equally delicious and satisfied our sweets cravings. We also ordered the blackberry mojito, which was the right about of sweet. The presentation was adorable and I know I'll be craving this when I get back home. The staff at Arume may seem stressed at times but that is both expected and understandable. The manager and our waiter were awesome! They welcomed us and provided exceptional service. I'd come back here in a heartbeat. read more

The best paella we had in Barcelona period! I had the seafood paella and hubby had the duck rice. Both were excellent. The scallop starter was perfection. We did not have reservations and had to sit at the bar. Luckily our waiter was wonderful and made up for it. Pretty sure they could have given us a table as there were plenty open. They neighborhood may discourage you based on its appearance but don't let it. The food is well worth it!! read more

We came here for dinner on our first night in Barcelona because it was just down the street from our AirBnb and we were starving after a long day of traveling.... We had the seafood paella and some sangria - both delicious - we even came back later that week for our last night in Barcelona. Go here. And get the duck paella. You'll thank me later. read more

Woo! Review 300! This was another great meal that we had in Barcelona. We just did a yelp search as we were walking down Las ramblas and this came up as a good place to get paella. We were very very lucky as we were able to get seated in about 10 min without a reservation. This is a super quirky restaurant in terms of decor. As we were being shown to our seat, we walked over what looked like a dungeon with skeletons and a glass covering on top. It was a little disconcerting looking down almost 50 ft into this scene in the middle of the restaurant. We got seated in the loft area, which turned out to be nice as the downstairs could get pretty loud. We ordered the sangria, which was amazing and a blackberry mojito, which tasted like cough syrup. For food, we had; Goat cheese and spinach croquettes: 4/5 very delicious Fried Octopus: 3/5 good texture, but needed a little more seasoning A lamb dish that I forget the name of, but was almost like a shepherd's pie without the potato 4/5 Mushroom and duck paella: 5/5 this was amaaaazing. We just mopped it up! Chocolate chip cookie with mascarpone cream, lavender ice cream and poprocks: 5/5 definitely one of the best desserts I've had. AN ABSOLUTE GEM! EARNS ITS 5 STAR REVIEWS!!! We went there for dinner just before 8, and thankfully had reservations because this restaurant fills up. The staff was very courteous and all played with our 2 year old even though they were super busy. The food, however, is truly the star of the experience. If I could give it 6 stars, I would. Right off the bat, the olives served before the meal set the tone. An incredible assortment of Spanish black and green olives each more delicious than the other (we ordered seconds of that too :) ) We selected the ceviche and scallops as our entrees and the paella (for 2) as our mains. Without question, the best tapas we have ever had. Hallelujah! Perfectly cooked scallops with a killer sauce, and the most flavorful and refreshing ceviche that had layers of flavor even in its simplicity. If it was even possible, the paella was even better than the tapas. We were just blown away by the freshness and seasoning of the seafood, and the perfectly cooked rice (that tasted like the ocean) to accompany it. Even the color of the paella was incredibly appetizing (see our pics). Our bill for the dinner was about €60 without alcohol. Very reasonable for the seafood we ate, and a steal considering the skill of the chef/kitchen. We will be going back to this restaurant again in a day or so. read more
