Great and imaginative menu. Cute spot. Didn't have reservations so sat at the bar. Was met by a super friendly bartender that took good care of us. Menu was thru a QR code...ugh! But luckily they provided an iPad with the menu loaded so it came in a larger format. Started with a Cops de Garcia red wine, then a Gillis con bacalao, followed by a duck paella and a carrier's de cardo. All were delicious with presented beautifully. Each dish had subtle and unique flavors that blended well together. The portions were on the small side but great nonetheless. An enjoyable evening!
We came in for dinner and although we did not have a reservation, they are able to take us without a wait. The place is small and feels like you're walking through a labyrinth. It has a very intimate feel, and they have interesting photography and artwork on display. Our server was friendly and was able to give great recommendations about the menu. One of my favorite things was that the wine menu is on a tablet, you can select the wine and read about the various notes and see what foods will pair well with it. Based on the server's recommendations, we ordered the duck and mushroom paella along with the classic seafood paella. The duck mushroom paella was so delicious and flavorful. I think we should have tried the seafood paella first, since it seemed underwhelming after eating the mushroom duck paella. The tortilla de Betanzo was simple and delicious. The scallops were accompanied by an amazing sauce, that left me wanting more. For dessert, we ordered the tarta de queso ahumado, such unique and well blended flavors. The food was a bit pricey but the quality was great.
Arume is one of the popular spots in Barcelona for paella, but specifically the duck paella. It's special because you don't often find a duck paella on the menu. Be aware that you don't get the socarrat (crispy bottom) that many paellas have, but the flavor itself is still worthwhile. The restaurant is located along some "sketchy" alleys, but just head straight here and out. Once inside, it's led into multiple rooms into the back that feels like an underground cave. To start off, we had some Bread (€1.50), Butifa Croquettes (€3/pcs), and Bay Scallop (€7.50/pcs). The bread came with a tube of olive oil, which was pretty cool way to be served. The croquette and scallop were both good, although quite pricey for each item. For main entrees, we shared the Iberian Pork (€22.50) and Duck Paella (€18.50). Both of these dishes were incredibly flavorful and delicious. The sauce on the dish was savory and this meat was so tender. The paella was also full of flavor balanced with the cream mixture. It's more similar to a porridge consistency, but still so tasty. This dish is just so unique that you need to try it for yourself. Overall, delicious food, dim-lit environment, and friendly customer service. It's a pricier meal, but everything we had was delicious.
The service here was so wonderful. We loved Emmy! The location is not great and it was hard to find the place, but worth looking for. We tried the octopus and the tortilla de patata and liked both. We loved the duck paella! We also had the marisco paella but two out of four of us did not love it. Overall it was great and we'd love to come back!
Skip this place. First time in Barcelona, super excited to try seafood Paella in Spain. Worst paella I've ever had, flavor was awful. Also worst and most expensive meal I had in Barcelona. We had a paella cooking class scheduled elsewhere that week, I was going to cancel thinking if this is what Paella tastes like in Spain no thanks, thankfully the paella we made in class was delicious, thus confirming it's just this place that has bad paella. I think people see the good reviews and feel bad leaving an honest one, but it was so disappointing I feel it's only fair to honestly warn others because we wish we skipped this place. Also Sangria is flavorless due to being watered down.
One of the best meals I had in Barcelona. There are so many tapas and paella spots that it's hard to find one that really stands out, but I was wrong. Everything I had at Arume stood out. From the layout of the place (there was clear glass over a well that you walk over as decoration) to the music choices, the vibes were just on par. We asked the waiter to choose a white and red for us that she recommended. Each bottle she chose for us was delicious and right on the nose of what we had wanted. Appetizers -- We got the baked scallops (comes 2 per order) and the calamari. Both were flavorful and delicious. Main course -- Get the duck paella! If nothing else, I hope you at least try that. The duck paella is nothing I had like before. There were duck chunks, the flavor was on point and not too salty, and the cream on top helps balance out the flavors. The waiter said it was a single person portion, but we weren't too hungry and had order a lot of apps, along with fried pumpkin, that it was just the right size for 4 people. Dessert -- We were recommended the cheesecake brulee. It was not too sweet, nice and fluffy. Highly recommend making reservations to this place if you're traveling to Barcelona!
One of the highest Yelp ranked places in Barcelona and I know why. The food is delicious, the staff are full of smiles and the price is very reasonable. It's a cute restaurant with a warm environment as soon as you walk in. Items we tried: scallop- wow, fresh and they top it off with something crunchy with a little sauce. Fantastic! Duck paella - first time eating duck paella and absolutely delicious! Bread - bread is fresh and great tasting olive oil to go with it. Simple yet delicious.
We were SO excited to try this, but had an odd experience. The octopus appetizer was pre-cooked; I know this because the flavor was excellent but it was barely warm AND lightly fried. I even had a cold bite. The scallop I received was raw. The second one tasted like vanilla instead of truffle. The croquet was nice but I personally did not care for the flavor. The duck paella was actually not good- too little duck, too rich. Maybe it's me- I did not enjoy the flavor at all. The wine tablet was very cool; lots of details on the wines; loved that! The ambiance was just weird. I felt scared walking away from the restaurant- creepy guys walking around and women in full burkas. I don't know what has happened to this area of town, but I no longer feel safe here. I don't understand how this place is so well regarded on TripAdvisor or here. Contrary to popular opinion, Arume was pretty mediocre to me. Perhaps I had high expectations for this and it fell short of my expectations or I just ordered the wrong items. I may have not been impressed with my meal here, but other than that the service and hospitality made my experience quite pleasant. We made reservations for 8pm on a Wednesday night. Upon arrival, I was relieved we made reservations because the restaurant seemed rather small, but we soon found out that there's an extensive back area to the restaurant. We ordered the octopus tempura, ceviche, seafood paella and 2 drinks to share. I didn't love the texture of both the ceviche and octopus, but the shining factor of both dishes were the sauces drizzled on top of it. They really elevated the dish much more and helped the flavors of the seafood shine. A lot of people recommended the duck paella, but we opted for seafood paella just because of personal preference. Maybe that's where we went wrong, because I thought the paella was just average. The drinks, on the other hand, were delicious! I would come back here just for the blackberry mojito.
This is a cute tapas bar in a gritty part of town. It looks small at first glance, but there are a few additional rooms in the back. I had the seared tuna and fried octopus appetizers. Both were pretty good, but I thought the yuzu parmentier that came with the fried octopus had a funny taste and was unnecessary (1 star off). The grilled giant scallop was my favorite, as it had a ton of flavor and the sweet corn crema on top added a nice touch. The duck and mushroom paella had a wonderful umami flavor, but had very few pieces of duck and lacked the crispy bottom for a great paella (1 star off). The smoked cheesecake was just okay -- I did not detect any smoke flavor and it seemed days old. Overall, it was a nice place for lunch if you are in the area, but with all the tapas bars around, I probably would not make a special trip here.
Came here based on the other Yelp reviews. The restaurant has more seatings in the back. Ordered the duck paella as based on the other Yelp reviews. TBH, it's a little bit too heavy to eat. The scallops are really good, highly recommend them. The octopus was fried, not the raw ones that I was thinking. Interesting window to look down at the skeleton. The service is friendly and accommodating.

Better than I could have ever expected! From start to finish we were blown away. Our waitress was attentive and patient (not only are we Americans...but my mom asks a million questions a minute) and even helped us in the ordering process. My parents shared a pitcher of Sangria (not too sweet!) and I got the blackberry mojito which was incredible. (The waitress promised the mojito would make me forget my own name) The food was minimalist and delicious. Pork shoulder was tender, and seafood paella was just what we needed. All topped off with a bottle of red wine, and complimentary Baileys at the end of the meal. I will encourage everyone to come here. read more

Got in late to the city after long flight. Found this little gem tucked away in the neighborhood and it was fabulous. Very friendly staff and food was delicious. I loved the Bay Squid and Seafood Paella. Wife an daughter loved the cerviche and scallop - can't argue since I also liked them. All dishes were delicious and I would highly recommend it read more

The mussels were AMAZING!!! Perfectly seasoned and I was so happy. The wait time wasn't long for 2 people, but if you have more it'll be a SUPER long wait. This place isn't that bad so that's why the wait time is longer than usual. So please take note of that. The paella was delicious, but I think the rice wasn't as soft as it needed to be. I wasn't a fan of the rice but the seafood was wonderful. I feel like they should've cooked it with Jasmine rice I think that would've gave it the taste it was missing. Overall the drinks were great and the food was seasoned well. I would definitely recommend this place for dinner. read more

Our first dinner when we were in Barcelona! We made reservations and we're glad we did since the dining room was crowded, although there may have been some bar seating available at the front. We had the octopus appetizer which was delicious and very fresh, and then split both of the paellas (the duck and the seafood). This may have been a little too much food but both were super delicious and we are so glad we got both! The duck paella was a recommendation from the waitress and super rich and delicious. The atmosphere was cute for a date as well - definitely recommend! read more

Atmosphere was awesome... it's a small maze to get to the back of the restaurant and the interior architecture is very cool. Food was on another level above anything we've had while in Barcelona. I would highly recommend the Pork Shoulder. It was cooked to perfection and the dipping sauce was incredible. The staff were quick, helpful, and witty. read more

Very cozy restaurant, with really good service. We had as appetizer tacos and paella as main with seafood. we tried also a pork meat. Both delicious. Sangria was one of the best I ever had. If you are coming without reservation, I would recommend to come before 8pm. You will have a chance to get in. read more

We found this place on Yelp by looking for a paella place. Walked in on New Year's Eve without a reservation. They had a set menu for the night and let us sit at the bar and tried their best to get us a table. Even though we couldn't order paella, the meal was very good! The manager and staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially given that we did not have reservations and it was a holiday. The pacing of the meal was a little weird, as we waited about 20-30 minutes in between the 4th and 5th (out of 8) courses. I think the kitchen might have gotten backed up. For the most part, they timed it well and passed out champagne and grapes a little before midnight. As for the food: Foie Gras Mousse with apple, brioche, and litchi foam kind of weird but surprisingly tasty 4/5 Sea Scallops Tataki, sweet corn cream, basil oil, lime oil my favorite of the night. scallops were cooked perfectly and I loved the flavors 5/5 Poularde Ravioli, wild mushrooms, onion cumin sauce, sprouts delicious filling and great flavors 4.5/5 Wild Sea Bass, truffled cauliflower puree and green cockles sauce and eggplants The green cockles sauce and eggplant on the side were not my favorite - just too many of my least favorite flavors - but the puree and the fish itself were wonderful. 3.5/5 Iberian Pork Filet with artichokes and couscous The meat was a little overcooked and tough but was seasoned like an American pot roast. Couscous was also slightly under. The artichokes were a nice addition. 3/5 Pineapples in Mezcal The pineapples, despite being marinated in mezcal, were only slightly alcoholic and surprisingly delicious. 4/5 Tarta de Santiago almond cake, smoked cheese sauce, peach ice cream The cake was a tad dry for my taste, but I applauded the flavor combo of almonds, cheese, and fruit. 4/5 Come for the interesting food and great service. If you are looking for a good place to have dinner, you should stop wasting your time and make a reservation now. Arume opens at 7pm and by 6:30 pm, dozens of people are already lined up outside the restaurant. We started our dinner with some starters - gotta have that octopus again. And then for mains, we had two servings of duck paella, and then one serving of the seafood paella. Yes, it was heavenly. We ended our night with desserts - i wish I could remember how to spell em but, seriously, any would taste so good. So happy we went here and I hope this review helps you decide as well. Yes, the duck paella is highly recommended and it does not disappoint! Full of flavour and their serving size is fairly large. Can easily be shared between 3-4 people. There were two of us with all of that food so after eating, food coma was in full effect. They do have seafood paella as well, but you can get that essentially anywhere. We also get the crispy octopus. We were hoping that this would be the mini octopuses but not, fairly large cuts. It was good but rather chewy at first. The sauce that it was in was amazing! Dip your bread in it. Very friendly staff, however it took us about 20 minutes or so to get our bill. So if you're looking to leave, don't wait for them to give you the bill, ask!! Please make sure to make a reservation. Seating area is small and limited. You'll most likely have a longer wait time if you don't. read more
This place stands out because it was the only place that Laverne N. and I tried paella and it was so worth. I really liked how the restaurant was almost hidden in a side street and was super quaint on the inside, which definitely exuded a more romantic feel to the place. Starters: -crispy octopus with potato foam, paprika oil, and lime -galician clams in a thai curry base Entree: -seafood paella My favorite part of the meal was definitely the paella. I would say order one serving of it between two people as the serving for two was way too much. Galician clams comes in at a close second! read more

The paella is awesome. You can't go wrong with either the seafood or the duck. Personally I think the duck is a little more savory and smooth than the seafood. But it's nice how different the two are because it's clear they are prepared uniquely, rather than just having meat / seafood added at the end to the same blanket of rice. The restaurant is also really hip and lively so it's a fun place to go. Bread though does cost €1 per person which is crazy since it's just a slice of bread, though the olive oil comes in a test tube which is awesome. Also the pumpkin appetizer is disappointing. It wasn't awful but rather it lacked texture and was cold, which I wouldn't expect given the description. read more
Of the places we went in Barcelona, this was probably my fave. However, it didn't feel like totally Spanish, if that's what you're going for. But if you're just going for good food, this is a great place. It reminded me of a Japanese fusion for some reason.... anyhoo~ what we got: 1. Steak tartare: probably my fave. Lots of flavor. Not tough at all. Distinct horseradish taste. Best thing we had. 2. Artichoke: this was okay, but skippable. Also, for the price and amount given, I'd skip. 3. Octopus and potatoes: this was delicious!!!! Recommend. 4. Duck paella: this was sweet and salty. Hahah. Idk if you've ever mixed the sauce of korean bulgogi with rice, but that's basically exactly what this tastes like. Probably skip in future but wasn't bad to have once. 5. Sangria and blueberry mojito. These are non very sweet. Not much alcohol content tho. 6. They give you free dessert alcohol. Sweet and a great way to end the evening. read more

Came here with my family based on all of the stellar yelp reviews. I was once again rewarded for using the Yelp App...since our dinner at Arume was very good. We started with some sangria and shared the fish tempura, lamb tacos, and clams in curry sauce starters. The lamb tacos were my favorite of the apps, the tempura had a nice smoky tomato sauce. We had both the seafood and duck paella my favorite was the duck. It had a deep rich flavor with tons of umami. The portions were very big. A great dinner overall. read more
A very popular place. It's recommended to make a reservation here. We did not, and were very lucky to get in. We did have a limited time we could stay and eat. We tried the popular Spanish dish Paella that Arume and Spain are both known for. It's a very large rice dish. Non Spaniards believe it's the national dish, but locals believe it's more of a Valencian dish. My wife had the duck and I had the seafood. They are very large dishes and two people could probably share one. Especially if you are having an appetizer and dessert. The servers were so nice and very helpful. I think it's highly recommended on Trip Advisor too, and the entire place was full of tourists from Asia. read more

We only had one chance to eat paella on our trip. With that being said, we wanted to try what people considered the best in Barcelona and Yelp led us to Arume! Arume is tucked away in a small, charming street. It was definitely nice to eat somewhere a bit more "low-key" in terms of location. We got pretty lucky and were able to get seated without a reservation (although reservations are highly recommended). We ordered way too much food.. Starters: + crispy octopus, potato sea weed foam and paprika oil: nice flavor but the texture of the octopus was a bit tough and chewy + Galician Clams in a Thai curry with fresh bay leaf oil: these were good as well Main: + seafood paella for two: definitely should have just ordered for one because it was way too much food. This was packed with flavor. Loved the broth-yness of it. The rice on the bottom of the pan was the best/most flavorful part. Sad we only got to try paella once on our trip, but happy it was from Arume! read more

We went around 7pm and thankfully there was no queue! The server told us we had an hour before the next reservation, but we eat quickly anyway so that worked out perfectly. We ordered the kimchi breaded scallops, duck paella, and the Thai-inspired noodles. The duck paella was really rich and not too salty, and the Thai noodles were perfectly cooked. The scallops were a bit too rich to order as an appetizer, but the flavors of the scallops and kimchi were amazing. I also ordered the blackberry mojito and...I dream about it everyday... read more
Found this gem of a spot from yelp, and likely would have never found it otherwise. We chose to walk there, but it does involve meandering through the gritty streets of El Raval, so I would recommend using MyTaxi or a cab for anyone who isn't comfortable. We were led to a table in the surprising spacious back area past a cool glass floor with a deep hole and a surprise decoration below. To drink I tried the blackberry mojito which was out of the world delicious and unique. We ordered a mouth watering octopus with potato foam, as well as a fresh delicately flavoured ceviche to start. For the main we all opted for the seafood paella which is served in single person portions here. And though it was delicious, it was overshadowed by how good the starters were. If I were to back, I would probably pick off the appetizer menu to discover more unique plates. Overall very memorable dinner, and I would highly recommend to any foodies in the area. read more

I love that place is hidden in the winding pebbled streets of Barcelona. It doesn't stand out and wave. You have to look for it, stumble upon it. You go in and a delicious meal awaits you. Please make a reservation! They are popular and worth it! On my return to Barcelona in the near future I shall return to Arume again because the restaurant is lovely, quaint, and classy. All of the things that describe myself. Please be good to yourself and visit because they offer a delicious paella with sophistication. That is to say, you can get paella anywhere in Barcelona but it is done right here. Done to order and presented with sophistication. They have other items on their menu besides paella. My sister and I went here for dinner and of course we came for the paella. They have two offerings: duck paella with a garlic cream and peppers and seafood paella with clams, shrimp, oyster, and calamari. I got the duck and my sister got the seafood. Both were amazing and true to who we are, while we enjoyed the others paella we were pleased with our choices. Nicely cooked, creamy and done to order. The freshness of the ingredients were evident! The flavors were intense in the best way possible. I think we had fresh bread as well. I loved the staff here! You are greeted by everybody as you walk to your table! They are enthusiastic about feeding you good food. As you leave,the chef in the open kitchen asks for your feedback. That was pretty neat!!! I definitely will try dessert next time. I docked a star because while their drinks were delicious and chilled, they tasted as if they had absolutely no alcohol in it. They are famous for their blackberry mojitos which are so fresh and delicious but I don't appreciate paying those prices for fruit juice. Great establishment! Definitely worth a visit! read more

Oh Arume...this traveler is full and happy. Where to begin? So I didn't have a reservation but, as I've learned in this town, eat early and you don't need one. The hostess was so sweet and understood that my Catalan/Spanish is limited (non-existent). I was seated but chose to sit at the bar instead as a personal preference. Really solid bartender. She was earning that money because she was busy! But I got a great blackberry mojito. Solid. Now to the food. Seafood paella. Get it. Now. Thanks. I can't compare paella with other places here since I haven't been able to eat paella anywhere else. However, it was so good on its own that I don't need to compare! Lol I loved it. I loved the clams and squid and just yummy goodness. And it came in an individual portion. I will say that I am FULL from my portion. Good food is good food and Im very happy that this place closed out my trip. read more
