Very tasty cheesecakes in the heart of Bruntsfield! After hearing a lot of good things from friends, I finally popped into Artisan Cheesecakes at the weekend for a slice of cheesy heaven. First of all, the place smells great, as they have scented candles lighting around the shop (which you can also purchase, if you so fancy!). The place is very small, with seating for a maximum of six people, but this doesn't seem to be an issue, since most people take their cheesecake away. Approaching the counter, we saw the tremendous-looking cheesecakes. A selection of types. A plethora of colours. A feast for the senses. Inevitably, this meant I spent ages moping around, unsure what to choose. "Oh, I'll have a raspberry ripple." "No problem!" "No, wait! Make it a classic New York." "You got it!" "Actually, let's go for strawberries and cream." "....." I won't bore you any longer. In the end, I chose a Strawberries and cream, and Mary had Apple Strudel (which literally consisted of a big chunk of cheesecake, with a big chunk of apple strudel on top. Massive portion). Both were simply divine. We also had a latte to wash it down and compensate for the sweetness in the cheesecakes. Both slices were dense and rich, so although we both finished the slices, we were full up afterwards. Excellent! Prices are a bit higher than I'd like, especially for sit-in, but it's really the only negative. Great place with great cheesecake, but don't plan on getting a seat in the place, especially if you're in a group. read more

Yum, yum, yum! After the twitter feed reading of 'Day 46, Cheesecake watch, still not open', Artisan Cheesecakes have finally opened in Bruntsfield (as of Wed). The good people of Bruntsfield have been spoiled. Within a couple of months, Cuckoo's and Artisan Cheesecakes both opened in Bruntsfield Place and being the cake fiend that I am, I hit up both in the same day. Previously Cafe Grande had the monopoly on cheesecake but at a fiver for sitting in, it was an expensive treat. After sit in at Cuckoo's (multi-tasking by working and having tea and cake), I popped into Artisan to see what was on offer. I struck gold with not one but two types of gluten free cheesecake to choose from as I was informed by my cheery server. I appreciated having an option, never mind two as I had been preparing for disappointment with there being nothing available. Tablet or millionaires, decisions, decisions! Tablet won and it is delicious. A decent size piece was £3 to take away - topped with lovely chunks of tablet, a light but fairly solid based cheesecake, it is absolutely divine! The base for gf is a biggie as gf sometimes is overly crumbly but this all holds together very well. So, the shop - It is a small space, all creams and pastel shades with only a few seats but lots of fridge space full of cheesecake so takeaway may be the predominant option. To be honest, I wasn't paying attention as I was too busy deciding on the gf options but I believe there are around 16 options to choose from on a daily basis!! I'll definitely be back soon and hoping to try a fruity gluten free option next time. Well worth a visit! :-) read more

Having friends staying, doing some silly amount of exercise, being in pain after said exercise... All stellar reasons to have cheesecake for breakfast I'm sure you'll agree! And if you don't, I don't care. I'm having cheesecake for breakfast anyway. I headed here for a cheesecake breakfast recently and we all left full and smiling. I had the malteser cheesecake and found it light (as one expects of a malteser cake!) and delicious. On the same table we had a strawberry concoction and a chocolatey type deal which were all consumed with glee. We had some teas and coffees with our cakes, which I did find a tad over priced (See my previous reviews for comments on how I would prefer a pot to a teabag in a mug!) I wasn't too sure about Artisan Cheesecakes... I popped in not long after their opening and had a good slice, but I didn't find anything mind-blowingly amazing about the cheesecake and opted to wait until I braved Bruntsfield again before penning a review. I'm very glad I did. Because Alisa and John R are magical social unicorn who are always on top of whats what in the foodie festival world, I found myself in Bruntsfield last week on a mini Christmas crawl. Each little shop/cafe in the neighbourhood was giving away mini samples. We stopped into Artisan Cheesecake for no more than 4 minutes but it was enough time for them to get a Mango Blueberry sample into my hands and folks: this is a mic dropping cheesecake. I had been thinking about it ALL week and actually planned a meeting around sneaking in to get a proper piece. It was the perfect balance of creamy cheesecake goodness, without being too rich or overwhelming. If you like cheesecake, then you have come to the right place. This is a branch of the main shop in Bathgate. They have over 30 different flavours, which are on rotation and are sold by the slice or as mini cheesecakes on a first in first served basis or they take orders for whole 9 inch round cheesecakes. At £3 a slice or £25-£30 for a 9 inch, they are not cheap, but you are guaranteed deliciousness. They have one small table at the front of the shop, but otherwise it's takeaway only. I don't consider myself much of a cheesecake fan. When my girlfriend gets one, I will steal a bite because I know it's good, but I never order one for myself. That being said, I will be coming back here again and again and again. The chocolate coconut cheesecake was the highlight of my week. In addition, the employees were very friendly and happily helped us narrow down the massive selection of flavors. I've walked past so many times, and one of my thoughts was - there isn't a lot of cheesecake in here. I'd like to state here, in public, that sometimes I think a lot of nonsense. This was one of them - as there is a lot of choice... a lot. In the mood for something sweet a week or so ago, I dropped in to check out how good their cheesecake was. It was just after the Moonwalk, so there was a special on for it - strawberry and white chocolate and it was just wonderful. I love cheesecake, but it was be insanely rich, but this had a lovely light balance of fruit and rich cheesy goodness. I didn't waddle out, but I did leave with a smile on my face. This place is the real deal. First of all, they have an amazing variety of cheesecakes - some classics and others totally off the wall. When we went on a Saturday afternoon, they had well over 20 options. Some fruit, others chocolate, and yet others based on desserts (eton mess cheesecake, for example). Cool, also, that many of the cheesecakes were inspired by traditionally British and Scottish flavors and treats - many reinterpretations of candy bars for instance. The staff was also very welcoming. They patiently guided us through each and every cheesecake, offering us an explanation of each one as some of the names were totally foreign to us. I ended up with a cheesecake cup (the only one), which consisted of chocolate and white chocolate cheesecakes layered into a cup (instead of the traditional slice) with crunchy m&ms throughout. I don't like desserts that are very sweet and white chocolate is known to be super sugary, so I was skeptical. But I was reassured it wouldn't be too sweet and they were right. I'm actually not even so sure it was white chocolate as opposed to just plain cheesecake. Either way, it was delicious. Loved the fact that it was in a cup and it had a nice tang to it. The biscuit base with good and dense. I opted for this as they didn't have anything this was the closest thing to a pure chocolate cheesecake they had (I like my chocolate plain, no nuts, no fruit) and it did not disappoint. Incidentally, not only is this place amazing in and of itself, it's by far the best cheesecake shop I've seen in all of the UK so far - London has nothing like it. It's the best I've had since the US. I would go back every time I'm in Edinburgh and whole-heartedly recommend giving it a try! read more

This part of Bruntsfield has become sweet street; the chocolate tree, falko, la barantine, meadowberry, cuckoo's bakery and now artisan cheesecake. I know where to go to get my pudding fix. I had relatively low expectations for Artisan Cheesecake. I foresaw overly sweet and sickly dense cakes which would leave me nauseous for several hours. Being the apparent masochist that I am, I decided to come check this place out with a few friends for breakfast yesterday. There were about 10 cheesecakes on offer. I was torn between a the spicy pumpkin and turkish delight varieties, eventually opting for the former hoping it would be less sickly. My friends took the bounty and new york baked cheesecake. My cheesecake was surprisingly not too sweet, had a good amount of cinnamon and came with a side of whipped cream which I by and large avoided. I tried my boyfriend's new york cheesecake which was also quite light and tasty. Artisan cheesecakes make for the perfect breakfast when paired with an Artisan Roast coffee, available just up the street. read more

Absolutely incredible cheesecake - creamy, with a delicious base, so fresh. I tried apple strudel, my boyfriend went for classic strawberries and cream, but I did spend a very long time making this decision and I would go back and try every one in the store! The decor is also very nice, with little cheesecake candles for sale. Very small inside, with only one table to eat at. We ate in, but in the time we were there several people came in for take away so this seems to be the popular choice. Only a small complaint, which is that the drinks seem a bit expensive (especially if you are sitting in, my boyfriend and I shared a nice latte), but I would definitely return for a treat! read more

When I have a half day at work I like to pick up a couple of slices as a treat for me and my fella. Trust me these slices are worth £3 each. With a wide and often changing choice of flavours there's something for everyone provided everyone likes cheesecake. I love the idea of baked cheesecake over instant made in the fridge. However, having tried these, I found the slices too big...I know...who would dislike that? Well, it is mostly cheese...but one slice is way too much for one. But, above that, it just was disappointing in the flavour department. It is off the mark if compared to my homemade, and ones from the US or Germany, for example. With improvements, it could be very good and a welcome place to come and shop for the convenience.
