I had to try this super hyped coffee spot while I was in Edinburgh. We stopped by the new location first to take some pictures, but ended up getting our coffee and pastries from the original location further down the street. We ordered an iced latte, a black coffee, an espresso walnut brownie, and the chai glazed cardamom bun. The staff was nice and gave us a few recommendations, which were super helpful since it was our first time there. The café itself is pretty small, with limited indoor seating and a few tables outside. There was an organized queue to get in and order, but it moved pretty quickly, so the wait wasn't bad at all. Everything was good, but I can't say it was the best coffee or pastries I've ever had. Maybe my expectations were just too high because of all the hype, but I was definitely expecting a little more. read more

Went here early in the AM circa 7:30. There were only 3 folks ahead of us. I ordered a chai latte and a cinnamon roll. I took sometime to prepare these items which surprised me as one of the items was already made. When I got the latte I was very excited as it smelled excellent, a great blend of cinnamon and spice. I had high hopes! And then I started to drink it and...womp womp not just tasted like warm oatmilk. No flavor. I didn't understand as it was so aromatic. To say I was underwhelmed and disappointed was an understatement. Then I ate my cinnamon roll. And ate is a generous term, I took two bites and was done. Usually cinnamon rolls are airy and fluffy, this one was so dense and chewy. I was so bummed. This feels like a tourist trap. I had better lattes in other cafes in the city. read more

I went to the Milkman a few times for a coffee while in Edinburgh! The staff keeps the line moving and helps with the flow of foot traffic. The pastries were okay. I was disappointed given how many times I see it being recommended. After trying it, my hunch is that there aren't many other places in Edinburgh that make pastries? Definitely don't wait in line if there are more than 10 people in it. When we went, there were 6 people in front of us and it went by fairly quickly - about 7-8 minutes. The Milkman is a very overrated coffee shop. It is recommended in almost every social media video about Edinburgh, but I feel like choosing this over some other options was a waste. The iced latte is standard; okay. Their almond croissant was crazy sweet, the type that makes your stomach a bit sick. One of the places with the best view in Edinburgh. People literally compete to grab the corner seats by the window. Sure, the view is beautiful, but nothing should overshadow the amazing coffee and the bakery items that make you want to eat the entire counter. In my 42 years of life, I've never had a cinnamon bun this good anywhere in the world. I think I'll spend the rest of my life searching for this exact flavor again. My mom and I went here to start our day of touring Edinburgh a couple months ago and we really liked this place. They have a ton of different drinks to choose from, as well as fresh pastries; which were delicious. There were a lot of people when we arrived in the morning, which is a good sign, and it didn't take long to grab our coffees and pastries and go. The employees are super nice and cheerful and actually looked like they were enjoying their jobs, which is great to see. My drink, which took only a few minutes to make, was the perfect tempo and was really good. I really liked this place and I will definitely go back if I'm in Edinburgh in the future. read more

I may be showing my coffee snob side a bit with this statement, but... this may actually be the best-tasting coffee this side of the UK; and trust me, I've been to my fair share of indepently-owned coffee shops. London might be the hotspot for the independent coffee shop scene, but Edinburgh has a few gems of its own, and this one is at the top of the list. The space is tiny, but everything from the drinks to the pastries - and maybe even the service, depending on the day - provide something I've yet to find anywhere else in Edinburgh. My flat white actually made me question if it would be worth moving here to be able to have this every day. According to my friend, her hot chocolate gave her the same thought. And, while the pastries vary from day to day, I've yet to have one I haven't liked. If you can get your hands on their dark chocolate sea salt cookie, do it; screw the rest. The interior is, perhaps, the only downside, as it only provides a few cramped seats in the corner. Still, that also serves to give this little coffee its cozy personality. Oh, and did I mention it's less than a 5-minute walk from Waverly Station? Yeah, this place is darn-near perfect. read more

The milkman has a couple of different locations. This one did have a line but it wasn't as long as the other location. The line went quickly and they had a worker letting people know when to come into the building. There are a couple of seats out front but they aren't available until after 9am. Seating inside is very limited. We grabbed a couple of pastries and coffees for takeaway as we walked around old town. Crowded cramped space. Hardly any seats. People on line are standing right over you. My husband is a bit of a coffee connoisseur and we both found the beverages to be average. Came in for a coffee and a pastry. The pastry was delicious. It was a round croissant that was flaky yet fluffy. The coffee was good as well! I wish I had gotten something else but I went with my go-to iced latte. It was solid, but I've certainly had better iced lattes. I had a sip of my girlfriend's cappuccino and it was better. Before we arrived in Edinburgh, we saw this coffee shop as a must visit. We were a quick less then ten minute walk from our hotel from a Milkman. We came right when they opened with books to do a bit of reading while we enjoyed our cup of chai (me) and a latte (the hubs). We both got oat milk and the chai was sweet but not overtly sweet and had a hint of cardamom that made it a bit spicy too. I was on the hunt for good coffee near the W hotel (the Starbucks next to the hotel just didn't taste like it did back home). I saw rave reviews for The Milkman so made the 8 min walk over there. Once I got there I saw there was a pretty nice sized line. I dislike lines, but this gave me hope I found coffee worth waiting for. I noticed many were eating some delicious looking croissant muffins while waiting for their coffee so decided to indulge as well. We got the chai latte with oatmilk and iced matcha latte to go since there were no seatings available. Service was fast and friendly. Chai latte was amazing. Need a break from walking around Edinburgh? Especially through the Royal Mile? This cute little cafe is an excellent pitstop to refuel. They offer pastries, coffee, and tea. And they have adorable accessories to shop on the corner wall while you wait for your order. Seats are limited. Chai Latte- Powder. I almost couldn't tell. It was mixed well with steamed milk. Delightful. Macchiato- Espresso with steamed milk was deliciously bold and creamy. Overall Service: They can multitask so well handling their coffee while conversing with customers. We sat ourself on the picnic table and had a good view to people watch. My only disappointment was I really wanted one of the ceramic mugs they had on display but they weren't for sale (we have a friend nicknamed the Milkman so would have been fun to get it for him). Small, cozy coffee shop located in Old Town that is conveniently located just up the street from Waverley Station and a 'block' over from the Royal Mile. We headed straight here right before our walking tour of Edinburgh. They have a small menu of coffee, tea, and drinks, and a light selection of pastries available in their display case. The prices are reasonable and staff are friendly. We ordered the mocha, latte, hot chocolate, and some pastries to fill our bellies before our two hour tour. To prevent crowding, we were asked to wait outside and they would bring our orders out. Not a problem as outside seating is available and it's a lovely spot to people watch and admire the surrounding buildings. Our orders took a bit longer than expected and so we had to quickly head over to our next stop. Just allow yourself ample amount of time if you have somewhere to be. Our coffees were pretty standard. My mocha was light on the chocolate flavor, but this seemed to be the theme throughout our time in the UK. My pastry on the other hand was outstanding! I don't remember what it was called, but it had raspberries and it was so delicious. My only regret was only getting one. I would have liked to sit and enjoy a sip or two at the shop as every nook of the shop was quaint and Instagramable. I loved the stone interior, wooden accents, and worn and weathered look.
