    Turkish Eggs

Get the Turkish Eggs. They are absolutely amazing! Garlic, Dill, Spice, and nice bread to dip. Poached eggs were cooked perfectly. Friendly (if slow, in a good, not rushed way) service. You will not be disappointed! Loved the place. Wish I could have gone everyday, but was a little further away from where I was staying. Can walk back through the Meadows and University of Edinburgh to get to Old Town.

Stepping across the threshold into Salt Cafe, you enter a fantastical place rich in aromatic spices with hints of chocolate. You admire the elegant, yet cozy decor while inhaling the delicious caramelized and earthy aromas pulled along in the courteous staff's wake. The luxurious hot chocolate both warms and delights as the masterful eggs Benedict soak into the English muffin. When the check eventually comes, you already know you'll be back.

Amazing, locally procured and so tasty brunch food to be had at Salt Cafe in Morningside. We had the Butcher's breakfast and the vegetarian breakfast. And to drink Iain Burnett's hot chocolate with oat milk, Alba cola, and fresh juices. Everything down to the butter eggs tea and coffee is from the local area, with many if not all products available to buy. This young couple only opened this cafe last year and deserve all your support, you might find that they are nearly booked out on some days, but you should be able to get a table. Liv makes all the Home baking, and not only also has a toddler, but holds down a lecturer position too. Whilst Steve is the Head chef, worked under Michelin star chefs, and is also trained in butchery making the shops sausages too. A very talented multi tasking couple indeed! Brunch is served Wednesday to Sunday but there also many home baked tray bakes, cakes and scones. Their are doughnuts from Kilted Doughnuts and Pastries from Wild Hearth Bakery along with a full range of drinks and as of last week Cocktails too!

On our first visit to Salt Cafe they were unfortunately fully booked with a few walk ins waiting at the bar before us as well. This tells you how great the place is before you've even visited, so we were adamant on coming back as soon as we were back in Edinburgh. Ringing a few days before, we booked a midday spot for brunch on a Friday. And you know what, it's a good job we did, as it was still super busy when we arrived. The menu consists of breakfast (served till mid afternoon so we'll call it brunch), and other lunch items with a range of specials available. As part of the specials, there are regularly changing smoothie flavours. I had a blueberry, oaty, gingery thingy, and it was delicious. For food my boyfriend had a full Scottish with extra haggis, and I had eggs benedict with a sausage on the side. The food was absolutely amazing, and a special shout out goes to that sausage! Yummy with a capital y! Really good standard of food, good service and a cosy atmosphere inside. It's the kind of place you could take the parents to, whilst also being suitable for a hungover breakfast with your mates. Just make sure you book in advance, but it'll be worth it I promise.

Passing through Morningside each morning Salt Cafe had caught my eye. In retrospect, it's surprising, the exterior is fairly unassuming, but those golden stenciled letters intrigued me. We headed here on a Sunday night with some friends for a meal. I arrived a bit earlier an got some bread with oil and balsamic vinegar, being ravenous at the time I was probably not the best judge but the bread was delicious and the olive oil was fantastic (balsamic vinegar is always a winner). I was seated in a window seat which was nice, bright and airy. There was a bit of a draught though...and later we realised the lack of blinds made the setting sun a bit of an issue. The menus are interesting, I hope you've been working out if you want to carry more than one! When everyone else arrive we settled into the drinks. I was pleasantly surprised to find a new cider on the menu, as Manuel ha mentioned below the drinks menu is a bit if alright. Most of the group went with wine and everyone was quite pleased. For starter we shared calamari. It was nicely cooked and had a good soft texture -not rubber! For the main I had the burger. Wowzer. That was a good hunka meat. I couldn't finish the whole thing as it was massive and I had accidentally filled up on bread. That meat was so good though, I pushed my half eaten burger on my dining companions. I don't know where they get their meat but it want to know. The number of mains on the menu is 'limited' -it's a small place. The range of dishes, however, is excellent. There's something for everyone. As there was six of us we managed to order every available main and everyone was pleased with their choice (though I think I won with the burger!) When it came to dessert we were stuffed but were more than intrigued by the rooibos panda cotta. Tea panna cotta! How could we not! We ordered one to share. Another Wowzer! That stuff was delish. I don't know how they did it but it tasted like creamy sunshine. The staff were charming throughout. Casual, but attentive and professional. Meanwhile, the decor is interesting. There's a definite 'sea' theme mixed with bright airiness and cushions. Lotsa cushions. It strikes me as Nordic-esque. Overall, I hope I'll be back. I have a feeling a casual drink, a decent dinner or a morning take away coffee would all be very welcome here. A definite all rounder!

Delicious restaurant. Im not sure what the difference is better a cafe and a restaurant, because in my mind I guess this could be either. And maybe thats what makes it a cafe... anywho We came in for cake and tea week or so ago, just a stop on a walking date. I had a gluten-free almond plum cake that was delicious! Im always impressed when places do a really good alternative cake. The icing was delicious, sweet, smooth and just the right amount! The food looked great, but we had already had lunch. So we came back for a date night two weeks later! This place is small and fills up fast so you HAVE to make reservations for weekend nights... not sure about week nights. I could say somethings about the space and its lack of functionality , but I wont because overall its not too big a deal and the place looks cool...( just try to not sit in the booths- which is the only place we've sat both times! HA ). Obviously it didn't stop us from coming back! For dinner I got a small plate and a starter. I was worried that my small plate might be too small... but it was perfect. I had ordered the steamed mussels in a curry butter sauce! yes interesting too. They were delicious and I would say a "normal" size portion if you went to another resultant. Definitely not small. For my started I had a olive paste and toasted bread .. it wasn't called that but I forgot the name , but it was good and tons of ground olives! I shared it with John since it was way too much salt and olives for one person! 1/2 was perfect for a starter . We loved our dinner and our cake experience and plan on making it back for lunch in the near future!

Dropped in on Sunday morning for a quiet brunch and wasn't disappointed. Great food, well cooked, with good coffee. Highly recommended:)

I couldn't believe Blueberry Hill wasn't on Yelp. Maybe its because it caters for a breakfast/lunch…read morecrowd, but I love this little local gem and its an escape when working from home :-) Its small (about 5 tables that seat between 2 and 4 at each) but very popular with locals of all ages and can fill up very quickly as people pile in. Does the usual cafe food: sandwiches (my fav is chicken, chorizo & lime pickle on brown gf bread but my mum swears by the roast beef which is cooked in-house) as well as soups and baked potatoes. Specials change constantly and today included chowder, baked trout and quorn chilli. Cakes are homemade and cover everything from tray bakes to cheesecake. This place is a gem - cheap but excellent fresh food - 4 stars, but only because I've not had cake yet...

When I arrived around two I very quickly realized I wasn't the only one with the idea for a pop in, as all of the tables were full and there was a wee line in an already wee place! What I noticed while I stood in line pondering what to get was the extremely reasonable prices. Around two pounds for a baked tattie with some fixings? Less for sandwiches? Awesome! If there had been a place to sit I may well have gotten real food, but as it was I got a small latte and a piece of millionaire's shortbread, all for the extremely reasonable price of between two and three pounds. Not bad considering how much one drink from S-bucks is! The staff was very friendly despite being eyeballed hungrily by the line of folk waiting to be served, and when I tried both my treats after leaving I was pleased as punch. Both were perfectly lovely! Have already mentioned this place to the other half and will definitely be back to scope out the noms!

THE GOOD: PESTO PRESSED SANDWICH - mozzarella, almond pesto,…read moresun-dried tomatoes, and spinach. I love pesto, and this was pesto perfection! The pesto was fragrant, it packed a bold basil flavor, and they used a generous amount! The pesto was made with almonds instead of pine nuts. Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference. The multi-grain bread was a good, hearty choice. I liked that they gave me the option to have the sandwich pressed. I gladly said yes, as nothing brings a sandwich together better. ;) The side salad was a pleasant surprise. It was a spinach salad with balsamic vinegar and sunflower seeds. It was a great way to squeeze in some extra veggies! The only thing I would change is to add more sun-dried tomatoes. Vegan cheese doesn't always have the best melting abilities, but I was okay with that. THE BAD: The cupcake was dense and flavorless. The only good thing about it was the icing. The cappuccino tasted burnt. It was the worst I've had during my entire European trip. My sandwich was good, but unfortunately my overall experience was terrible. I have never had worse customer service than I did at Chapter One Coffee Shop. The disrespect I received was flabbergasting. It truly made me feel awful. I wanted to leave, but my need for caffeine overpowered my desire to walk out. After I sat down to finish my cappuccino, I thought maybe it was just me, maybe I was overthinking. However, shortly after, an employee came to my table and apologized on the other employee's behalf. That was nice and validating. It confirmed my feelings and experience. Trust me, I get that working in the service industry is difficult. Nevertheless, there's no excuse for that type of behavior. It put a sour taste in my mouth, and everything I ate was tainted. You can watch my visit to Chapter One and see all of the vegan food I ate in Edinburgh on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pw-0mh0q3iM&t=1s

I'm not one to be a Debbie-Downer leaving a 3 star review on the brand-new-swanky cafe/restaurant…read morein Bruntsfield... But I have to be honest to my fellow yelpers out there! Let's start with the things they're doing right. First of all, I love the interior. They've chosen the most beautiful, light airy unit and have been respectful to the original features (especially the gorgeous, large windows). The branding is cohesive and extremely endearing, with little bees on most things from the menus to the counter. They are also part of a charity which helps the preservation of bees in the UK, which I loved! I'm also pleased to see them using Artisan Roast beans for their coffees and lots of locally sourced produce for their food. So what's the problem I hear you cry? Well it was one simple (yet usually delicious) word: PANCAKES! I ordered them and they were completely raw in the middle. Again, I'm hearing you say "3 stars for raw pancakes is a little harsh, isn't It?!" So I spoke to the server about my raw pancakes, to which they said sorry and took them away to make me a new batch. Now, the pancakes that were returned to me were burnt with a slightly, less raw middle. They were genuinely worse than the first ones. Not one server came to ask me about the second lot , and the owners and managers never came over (even though I saw that they were informed in the first instance). When my plate was taken, the waiter asked if they were any better because I had left all but one bite of the burnt pancakes. I explained they were even worse and this guy is the reason that honeycomb aren't getting 2 stars! He apologised and agreed with how bad they looked. He also took the pancakes off the bill which I really appreciated. So all in all, go here for coffees and to sample their cakes but "bee" careful not to order the pancakes!
