Great food, bright and clean atmosphere, friendly service. Had a lovely breakfast here. So much on the menu looked good, but we stuck to the toast menu for breakfast. Wife and I both ordered the smoked salmon toast and it's been my favorite thing I've eaten in Edinburg on this trip. A meticulously constructed tower of deliciousness. All flavors and textures balanced plus a perfect soft boiled egg right on top. The salmon itself was so flavorful, I'll be dreaming of this breakfast for some time. My boys devoured pancakes and french toast from the kids menu. Was very pleased to see they offered a French press coffee. It was the perfect way to start our day.

Starting off the restaurant is clean and modern. Wasn't crowded and food came out quickly. The French toast with ham and Gruyere cheese was delightful. The sauce on it was an excellent addition. The GF got cinnamon swirl pancakes. Pretty decent but super sweet so do with that as you will. Coffee and drinks were also good. Service took a while to get to the table, was kind of just sitting there for a long bit before a waiter came by. After that the server was excellent.
There's plenty of space. Servers were nice. I got the chai latte and mushroom toast. Both were tasty.
Food masters cook and bake here. The service was friendly and prompt. Large windows let in lots of light for a comfortable, lovely view. The date-walnut pancakes were just the right density and flavor. Not heavy. Not overly sweet.
Great spot to over eat at breakfast! I enjoyed the Full breakfast.... it was FULL! Egg, haggis, black pudding, potato cake, bacon, mushrooms and tomato plus add salmon! Everything was very good and I'm stuffed. The latte was solid as well as I added the scone of the day! Yup...gluttony is on the menu!
My coworker brought me here for lunch since it was right around the office. It's a pretty popular brunch spot in the city as the place was rather busy when we arrived. Maybe I should've tried one of the bennys or another main dish, but the food didn't stand out too much to me. But then again, I did order a soup --particularly their soup of the day, which was a Tomato and Coconut Soup (£5). The bowl was plenty and heartwarming on a cold day, which also came with two slices of bread. While the bread was pretty grainy and plain, I did appreciate that the butter was soft and easy to spread. For now, this spot is a-okay in my book. I will re-evaluate after I return and try one of their main entrees.

Finding a good breakfast with early opening hours is a tough find in Edinburgh. Loudens had to be one of the best options for early breakfast. I loved everything about this place. Large windows to people watch and gaze at the rain, very friendly service & a huge menu to satisfy vegans, vegetarians and omnis. My only critique - ** and the menu does warn you if you pay attention**- everything is served at room temperature! So if you want hot coffee or cappuccino, then you have to request it. I ordered a soy cappuccino, a Florentine benedict with mango Chili salsa and Scottish porridge with strawberry puree. The cappuccino was strong. Thankfully i did notice the warning, so i did request extra hot. The eggs benedict was cooked perfectly. The chili mango salsa was odd but tastey. The Scottish porridge was really oatmeal and the portion was HUGE. I thought it would be a small side but it is like 2 cups worth of oatmeal. Delicious though I wish the meals were hot. I thought room temperature would be find for food but I would have preferred hot food too.
A modern and hip spot for brunch with lots of options and quick service. My husband and I stopped by here after reading all of the fantastic reviews. This place solidly got a 4 out of 5 in our book. They have fantastic modern brunch options from Scottish to American favorites. We opted for a Benedict and avocado toast. Both were very delicious and beautifully prepared. It almost seems that this restaurant is single handedly subsidizing the spinach industry. There was a HUGE amount of spinach on both of our dishes. While it was fantastic quality, I think it was enough for a family of bunnies to eat rather than what an individual may want to consume for breakfast; however if you're a big spinach fan, this may be perfect for you. We also ordered a variety of coffee beverages from the flat white to the matcha latte. They were tasty and rather mild in flavor. There were plenty of families and couples at this location, so if you're looking for a spot that will have something for everyone, this could be your brunch spot!

The have a full breakfast menu, including a variety of Bennies, which seems to be their specialty. I don't do haggis or black pudding, but it you're more adventurous, those are Benny options. I had a bacon and avocado Benny which was excellent. I also ordered a side of wedges, which were a bit bland and not crispy enough. From what I saw of other people orders, I would stick to the Bennies.
Decided to eat here as it was only five minutes from my hotel, so I was there right when they opened in the morning. I was promptly seated and had orange juice with the Hoots Mon Benny, and both were delicious. The Benny had the perfectly poached eggs and easy to cut muffin, as I have had rather tough benedicts before. I also decided to try the carrot cake with a cappuccino afterwards, and the carrot cake had wonderful citrus notes in the frosting and was well proportioned. Overall, the service was efficient and the meal was very satisfying (glad I went early as there was a huge line out front only a few hours later!)

The food was pretty good! The goat cheese Benedict was amazing! We also got asparagus and the spinach and potato patties which weren't bad. The French toast was pretty good! Homemade lemonade turned out to be strawberry lemonade which we were never made aware of and tasted more like a virgin strawberry daiquiri. Waited a bit to give our drink order and after food was dropped off had to flag a table cleaner to ask for our bill to go since our server wasn't seen again. The ambiance gives busy coffee shop vibes. read more
Awesome breakfast spot in Edinburgh! They offer breakfast and lunch all day, great coffee, and pastries. Staff were very friendly and prompt. Loved the food and service. The first time we came (it was so good we went twice on our visit at Edinburgh). It was full but a table for two was found. It took a bit longer to get some items but everything was delicious. Vegan breakfast was great and toast with mushrooms delicious and filling. read more

Came here on a Saturday for brunch. There was a line at 11:15am when we arrived and we waited for around 25 minutes for a table for three. I ordered an Egg Benedict with smoked salmon. It was so nice. The sauce, the eggs, the bread and the salmon are of a delicious combination. Also, we tried the French pressed pot. We ordered the one for two but asked for three cups. They are very helpful and willing to do so. The service is generally 5*. The atmosphere is great with large to-the-floor glass windows. Though there are kids playing, it has a relaxing atmosphere. Nice cafe to hang around with friends. read more

Made an entrance here on Saturday with a friend and her super smiley one year old. Staff were friendly and attentive: quick to reassure the queue (for a table) was moving, & to whisk friend's pram out the way. We shared mixed sushi (so yummy), delicious vegan gingery pancakes and the best scone - spelt - I've ever tasted. It's a large, bright space with an on-view kitchen so for people who like to be seen and interact with fellow diners it's fab. There are also some quieter high tables near the entrance which folk were using for solo reading or using laptops. Food quality was superb albeit a bit on the pricey side if you're just looking for a quick breakfast or small lunch. It's more a place for a slow, sociable brunch. read more

Walked over here for breakfast and we had: Loudons Full Breakfast which included bacon, sausage, poached egg, black pudding, homemade gluten free tattoo scone, homemade baked beans, mushroom and toasted homemade bread - hubby loves it, especially the homemade baked beans. Benny Leonardo included English muffin with Parma Ham and garlic roasted red peppers topped with poached eggs and homemade nut free pesto - I really liked their pesto and the entire combination was just wonderful as a big bite! Eggs & Bacon included 2 eggs of your choice with cherry tomatoes, bacon and toasted homemade bread - my girls had that and they loved the eggs (one had poached and the other scrambled) with the bacon and toast! They didn't want their cherry tomatoes which was my fortune, the tomatoes were SO sweet and when grilled, that added another dimension of tasty to them! We had their coffee which were both very well made. Highly recommend this place for hearty breakfast! read more
A bit pricey but I love Loudons' £8 salmon egg benedict!! Absolutely scrumptious!! And their cappuccino was also excellent but you pay for the qualilty.... not a cheap place for sure even though from the outside it looks inexpensive. The space is modern, bright, and very Ikea fresh. It's a nice place to have a brunch on a lazy weekend. read more

Friendly staff and modern, welcoming decor. Really wanted the Cajun crayfish Benny but it was taken off the menu. Ended up ordering the Mac Daddy and wow, what a flavor combo! It was surprisingly delicious with the jam complimenting the haggis and pork. If you like your Benny traditional with hollandaise then this is not for you! It's definitely a unique dish but worth a try for sure read more
Just came back from Loudons. Cake, cake and oh.. look.. some more cake. They are all lovely. The look great and smell wonderful. I choose a banana & date gluten free piece with a kumquat. Very nice. The ordering is done by queueing up and supply your order to the cashier. State your table by waving in the general direction and they will bring it out to you. I ordered the Special - omelet with creamy leek and mushroom, fresh OJ and green tea - Anita ordered Eggs Benny, OJ and cappuccino. The lady advised that as it is busy it may take up to 20 min. That was understandable. We sat on our table and poured ourselves some water and wait, It was time too take in the surroundings. Apart from the massive display of cakes on a central table, the whole environment would not look out of place in IKEA - there I said it. This place remind me of a IKEA shopping pit stop canteen. Clean, practical, uniform and designed. Book cases as dividers, coffee tables in clean birch veneer. Stainless steel worktops, simple and practical ornaments. The place was packed. Thus the wait and the queues. The ordered foods and drinks came in scattered delivery. They were trying hard and it showed but many a time they were unable to identify which table ordered what. First the OJ, then a little later my Green Tea. - No cappuccino, but seeing the business it was to be expected a little later we guess. Our brunches arrived and it was nice eating, but could've used more seasoning. But there was Black Pepper and Pink Himalayan Salt grinders on the table so no biggy. During the meal we enquired about the cappuccino - "on its way!" cool. With regards to the drinks - The OJ was fresh and very good! My Green Tea however did not contain enough leaves to even colour, let alone flavour the water.. It didn't get any easier for the staff as the queues were getting longer. Anita's cappuccino hadn't arrived still after we finished our brunch, a quick wave and new request ensured that this was finally delivered. I think this place is good, the food is nice. They are possibly a victim of their own success. Waiting times and service execution is affected by that and the staff looked harassed and stressed. Shame as you can tell they were trying to keep on top of it. Maybe on a quieter day this is much better.. but now.. nah, can't give it anymore than 3 stars. read more
What happened to Loudons? The magical place with the scrumptious cakes and tasty meals with the queue out the door seems not only to have lost it's charm but it's good service as well. Mind you, they're cakes are still some of the best around. Sometime in the last year they switched from picking out your food and ordering at the till to, now, waiting on a server to take you to a table. I'm not sure exactly how, but this has effected the dynamics of the cafe's atmosphere in a profound way. On my last visit the place was nowhere near full, where in the past I often had trouble finding a table. I have been here twice in the past month and have had long waits for my food and drinks. In fact, the most recent one took about 20 minutes for our drinks (while getting one of the orders wrong) and 40 minutes (give or take) for my food. The impression I was left with was that the waiter had forgotten to put our orders in on both counts. I had to remind him to bring our drinks after the first long wait. Then 20 minutes later I had to remind him of my food order to his seeming dismay that I had yet to receive it. From now on, if I actually call by again for convenience, I'll just be here to get some of their yummy food to take away. Loudons, you really need to get it together. You once were one of my favourites. read more
This was my first time at Loudons and I was very excited to try the vegan (and glutenfree) pancakes from their breakfast menu. In fact, I am not in Edinburgh often and had made a special trip for these pancakes! My friend was very impressed by them, I feel a little bit picky in that I would have liked them if they were a bit thicker and fluffier. However, I suspect that making them vegan AND gluten free allows them to have a regular breakfast item which is suitable for box-ticking a whole host of dietary requirements, which I think is fantastic. Also, I get far far more excited at this option than what is the usual vegan-friendly breakfast option (if there is one!) of museli or porridge. For £6.95 you got three small pancakes topped with banana, strawberry, and maple syrup. On informing the waitress we were vegan she also told us they had vegan chocolate cake available, too. I love when wait staff can give me one or two other recommendations without me having to ask. My friend asked for a veggie sausage on the side of her pancake, which was added for an extra £1. I also had an iced coffee with soy milk. The place has a nice, bright open interior and we had a great spot in the sun at a window table. I had a skim through the rest of the menu and they have a salad and a veggie burger and veggie breakfast which I presume could easy be veganised, if not already vegan, but there isn't any dietary info on the menu. My one little slight on the experience was when I went to pay the bill and they had charged me for a jug of extra maple syrup, which had been given to me but I definitely had not asked for it and thought it was just an accompaniment to the dish. But when I queried it the waitress quickly amended the bill and it was all fine. read more
Ah whether it be for a sit down breakfast or just a coffee & cake this place really hits the mark. Along with Peters Yard for me this place is setting the standard for the rest in the city. Great service and an open/bright setting make for a brilliant local coffee house :) read more

4 stars for a lovely "traditional" (albeit the veggie version) of a Scottish breakfast. No qualms about that! 3 stars for being apparently forgotten by the staff a wee bit--hey, it was a busy day for them, so I can understand. But damned if it didn't take us at least 10-15 minutes to manage to even catch someone's eye for the ticket. As an American that's something I've had to get used to over here, but even this was more than the norm. Still, a lovely place for meeting friends over coffee or tea. read more

I had a delicious brunch here, on New Years Day. There was a line when we got there, but we didn't have to wait very long (maybe 10-15 min). It's surprisingly big inside, especially compared to most places in Edinburgh. The hostess was exceptionally kind - she took into account my dog and seated us in the sofa area so my dog can have his space away from others. The food and coffee were delicious too - I had the smoked salmon scramble and my partner got the eggs and bacon. I wish I found this place in the beginning of my trip - I'd love to return on my next visit to Edinburgh! read more

Wow! We loved this place! I went with 3 others and we all got separate things and each person loved their dishes. The French press was amazing, the home made bread was to die for, and food was all outstanding. It was great to be at an atmosphere where you could hear people at your table talking! We'd definitely highly recommend this place. All the pancakes were outstanding (note: they're not the exact same as actual American pancakes), the Benny's were perfect and omg I'm still thinking about that delicious bread. Give it a stop! read more

This is a must for the full breakfast was amazing the staff really polite and helpful the range in this bakery / cafe is of the highest quality . So much choice it's difficult to not stay here and eat all day . A gem of a find in this city. read more
