    Breakfast-fries egg, artisan bread, sausage

Eclectic interior. Staff was friendly and offered a place to hold our luggage. The cappuccino was fair, not the best I've had. For brunch I had a fried egg on artisan bread with sausage. It came with a small shredded salad with peppers and cucumbers. The egg was a tad overcooked but overall still tasty. My husband really enjoyed his breakfast-poached egg with bacon (Canadian ham, for you who are used to the American crispy strips)

I passed this place on my way to a Fringe performance at the Pleasance and thought to try it out and squeeze in some food between schedules. The waitress was very attentive and I was handed a menu at the entrance and could chose my seat anywhere in the room. At first there were not many people, but this place filled up pretty quick. I also noticed the enchanting little seating area at the back, which looks really cozy. I needed something fast and ordered Penne with tomato sauce (including mushrooms, onions and peppers) and mentioned to the waitress that I am in a hurry. The food indeed arrived very fast and I could pay within 20 min. If you plan to expect excellent Italian food than this is not the place, however, if you need a stop over, a cake and a coffee, or enjoy drinks whilst reading a book, then this place is ideal. I paid £9.95 for the dish and if paying by credit card they will charge you for under £10 or might refuse to use the credit card. Not sure if the food was worth £9.95, but I would definitely go back as the environment and the service are really nice.

If you think this is just a breakfast and brunch spot you are sorely mistaken! We ordered dinner here around 8pm and had a wonderful experience. We ordered the borek starter, rocket and tomato salad, grilled fish, grilled chicken and vegetarian meze platter. Everything was absolutely delicious with very authentic flavours. They accommodated our "no chips" preference by making bigger salads. We ended up waiting for our mains a little longer than expected. When we inquired, our waitress informed us that the food had been ready but she sent it back to cook a new batch of fish because there had not been enough. When we paid the bill we received 20% off the mains to compensate for this. And we received free pastries filled with delicious custard! Excellent customer service and excellent food! We had been there earlier in the day for a Turkish coffee and orange cake which we enjoyed on their Terrance. You can't see the garden from the street but it was beautiful as we were visiting in late April. Check it out!

Nice simple food. Had mackerel and chips which is a good alternative from normal deep fried fish and chips. I think staff and friendly and helpful. But the food didn't really stand out for me. Good value though.

Excellent brunch and lunch items. Had a great Mediterranean grilled platter and veggie breakfast plate plus fish n chips.

    Review Highlights - Circus

Circus is just off the Royal Mile enough to be slightly less manic during the Festival, although it is handy for venues that are down that end of the aforementioned street, as well as the Pleasance.

The food was absolutely delicious! My porridge was so hearty and yummy, I wanted to lick the bowl. My spouse's eggs benedict dish was also fantastic, and you can tell they use very fresh, high quality ingredients. The way they serve the meals in little stainless steel lunch boxes is adorable. My chai tea latte with oat milk was fantastically spicy and not too sweet. The server was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and always nearby, so it was easy to ask for our check when we were ready. And the inside of the restaurant had a warm, cozy feel. I would gladly eat every breakfast here the next time we're in Edinburgh!

When it came to ordering, I got an Iced Latte and a Buttery Bap. The menu is a bit difficult to decipher, as it was confusing how much or how little can be added to it and at what cost. The menu said I could only pick one filling, but when I asked I was informed that I could pick an unlimited amount. I'm glad I trusted my instinct and went with just two: Veggie Haggis and Tattie Scones. Both of these were truly delicious. However, there was an extra charge for the second filling. Prices for additions are listed at the bottom of the menu as if they were sides you could order separately. On the receipt, I also saw that I was charged 0.50 extra for ice. I don't understand why places charge extra to make an iced drink when overall you're actually getting less of the drink. Overall, everything tasted good and I'm glad I was able to try numerous Scottish classics.

We clearly didn't plan things out well, as we had to scramble to hit stops 6 and 7 within an hour of closing, on our last full day in Edinburgh. But, in our defense, coffee shops close up super early in Edinburgh! We hustled our way from the Mile towards Cairngorm, side-stepping tourists and hurrying across intersections. On a normal day, it would've been a nice jaunt through town, but on this day, it was a hectic seemingly-longer-than-it-should-have-been-half-sprint to the front door. I did love the feel of this shop, from the steps leading down to the cozy interior and the bags of spent coffee bean lining the ceiling. The girl working that day was very nice and welcoming. We placed our order and settled into a small table near the back of the building. I kept an eye on the barista (hubby's back was to the counter) so that I could pop up to grab our drinks when they were ready, but she brought them to us, instead. She saw our Disloyal 7 cards out on the table, and said, "Be sure to bring that by before you leave so that I can stamp them!" The lattes were good, with a nice, rich and creamy flavor. I think I could've ended our night here, wrapped up in the warmth of a good latte and a comfortable chair, but my husband pointed out that we had time to get to the final stop on our list, if we hurried. So, we went up to the counter and had the barista stamp their slice, and then hurried once more into the cold Edinburgh dusk.
