AMAZING!! The chocolate eclair was bursting with flavor, I could have seriously eaten five more!! We stopped in after dinner for a quick sweet treat and an espresso. They have limited seating inside. Super cute quaint cafe. We orders ours to go. Back to the elcairs...we are staying at the Virgin Hotel just up the street and have walked blast this place numerous times saying we would stop by later. I am regretting that I didn't stop sooner to try this delectable treat and sadly we are leaving in the early morning. Do yourself a favor and just stop for the eclair the first time!!
Beautiful little pastry shop! Come early as it started to get a bit crowded in there. Had a delightful pear tart and a pot of jasmine tea. I'll likely be back!
Cute little place on Bow. Some seating but also good hot take away. Large selection of baked items and sandwiches. I had breakfast here two times and loved the coffee. The crusty baguettes with ham or salmon were great. There may be a wait out the door, but the staff keeps things moving along briskly.
Very cute and cozy patisserie with only four tables inside. We stopped by for an afternoon snack and ordered a tarte, brownie, and iced teas. It was in the afternoon so they had a lot of items that were sold out, but they have pastries, soup, quiche, and macarons. The service was friendly and they cleaned up the tables quickly so other customers can sit right away.
4/7/23- didn't get far and saw some goodness we wanted to try. Vanilla eclair, pastries and other items. Check out the photos. Wonderful and priced well. The passion fruit macarons were the best ever. Try this one. Very flavorful. Best once ever had. Only 1.55 pounds each. What a steal!!
Cute place on Victoria st. The staff was friendly and helpful- the food was good. The setting is darling but we sat outside to watch people walking by. Nice place to have a bite while visiting Old Town Edinburgh.
Oh my! Vice La France in Scotland! Should I say "Smile Me with Lorraine de Quiche? Qui!!!!!! Cappuccino at its best! A lovely little place with only 6 tables of 3 inside and a few outside, but worth the wait! Transport yourself to France with smiles! Yelp helps me find top shelf places, so this is why I don't have to do bad reviews. This place on Victoria Street is just so cozy, warm and inviting, you won't want to leave! By the way, the Salmon was outrageously wonderful according to my wife! If you have more than 4 in your party, sigh. But go anyway. LoL

LBV is a perfect little french cafe tucked into Bow street. The kind of place where the clerk says, "Bonjour!" when you step in and then continues the conversation she was having with the waitress in French. The pastries, appealingly placed in a window case to attract passersby, looked divine. But as we were feeling a bit more peckish, they were not for us. Instead we ordered two coffees and some of their heartier fare: a lentil soup and La Parisien sandwich. The soup was very good, warm, creamy, and hearty just as it should be, and came with a generous serving of 6-8 slices of baguette with pats of scottish butter. The sandwich was also very tasty, although perhaps less my speed, with the inclusion of egg. Overall, lovely place, good ambiance, and can't wait to go back and try the remarkable looking pastries!
I honestly love this place. La Barantine Victoria is a quaint bakery that offers delicious pastries, heart-warming lattes (with BEAUTIFUL art), and good vibes only. I enjoyed it so much that I came here twice with my boyfriend and we were only in Edinburgh for two days (we probably would've came every day if we discovered it during our first day). The vegetable quiche is amazing and comes with a healthy portioned side salad (note: salad apparently doesn't come with quiches when you do take away). Their cappuccino had some of the best art I've seen, and their croissants are to die for. I ordered both a chocolate and a regular croissant and was planning to save one for later but couldn't because they were that good... Come here if you're visiting Edinburgh, you won't be disappointed! P.S. They do NOT have WiFi in case you were wondering (as of Oct. 2018).

LBV feels like something straight out of a storybook! While browsing around the Grassmarket, I was all but lured into the shop by the window pastries alone. Truly, it's such a darling spot to tuck into if your feet need a break or you're in need of a coffee pick-me-up. The café smelled dreamy when I wandered in, and there was a small table open in the corner, so I decided to stop for a coffee and sweet treat. And it was divine! The staff were so friendly and even helped me narrow down my pastry choices. The only thing to note is that the café doesn't offer a customer restroom, which is a bit of a bummer. They did direct me to the nearby public library, though, so it's just something to keep in mind. But don't let that stop you from taking a café break here! There are even a couple of outdoor tables if Edinburgh weather cooperates. And if it doesn't, the inside is cozy and comfy too. A lovely little spot to rest, recharge, and indulge in something sweet while exploring Edinburgh. read more

Adorable little café in Edinburgh with cozy seating and great specialty coffees. Perfect place to warm up on a cold day and the meringue cookie I had was fantastic. read more

I think the worst thing I can say about this place is that they opened at 8:06 rather than 8am. The shop offers a nice selection of pastries, ornate cakes and slices, drinks, and sandwiches. As we were there for breakfast, we shared a raisin swirl, lemon meringue, and slice of apple tart, along with coffee and a refreshing peppermint tea. Each food was presented on small slate plates. Gorgeous and delicious. read more

This place is better than Angelina's in Paris. It was sooooooo good. I saw the pastries in the window as I was passing by and I couldn't resist. £3.45 for a tart. The macaroon on it was the best one I've had. The fruit was so good and the filling was delicious! I'd definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a treat! read more
On my way to St Giles Cathedral from Grassmarket I spotted this little French coffee shop on West Bow. I walked passed it at first, but was drawn to it by the amazing Eifeltower of Macaroons displayed in their shop window. So I turned around. It's a very small coffee shop with about 6 tables. I ordered a Cafe Latte, 2 macaroons (salted caramel and pistachio) and a La Croque Monsieur. They are selling some amazing macaroons, tarts, french baguette , french bread and other french pastries (like Croissants). Did I mentioned that this place is French :-) The service was a bit stiff and the prices are not cheap as you are in "Town", but they do some offers as well, like a drink, a sandwich and a dessert for either £7.20 or £9.80. I really liked the Latte. They know how to do a proper coffee. read more
"Bonjour" was the greeting I got from the friendly man behind the counter when I walked in the door. I had just gazed at a tower of macarons in the window after walking down the hill from the Royal Mile on my way back to my car parked in the Grassmarket. Within a couple of minutes I realised that my "bonjour" was partly to do with the fact that very little English was spoken in the cafe... I had basically just stepped into Paris from Edinburgh. The staff in La Barantine Victoria were really friendly. It had the feel of a family-owned business, which may actually be the case. I had the La Basque sandwich. It was a fresh baguette with chicken, mayo, roasted peppers and salad. I couldn't resist putting it down. Even though it was a big sandwich, I wanted more just because it tasted so good. I decided to go with the lunch deal of a sandwich (or quiche), hot drink, and... wait for it... a macaron. I had a nice pot of English Assam Breakfast tea which was tasty and at a good strength. And then I went with a salted caramel macaron, which was divine. It doesn't look like it from the outside, but there's actually seating inside, so grab a table and savour the goodness of La Brantine. La Barantine Victoria is great and should be on your list of places to try, even if you're getting a baguette, quiche or macaron to take away. read more

Perfect little French Cafe! I've been to La Barantine in Bruntsfield once ages ago - loved it but am rarely up that side of town. My friend and I had just finished the Santa Run and thought we had earned ourselves a treat so I turned to Yelp to see what was nearby and was delighted with the suggestion of La Barantine near the Grassmarket.- we peeked in and saw that every one of the tables in the tiny seating area were taken. A friendly couple saw us and indicated that there were two stools free at the window counter. A bit wonky but we were cold and hungry so we nabbed them (luckily the friendly couple were nearly finished so we grabbed their table). The waitress was re-assuredly French, friendly and efficient. Within minutes we had the options explained and had placed our orders. The Soup and baguettes combo was the perfect choice and a nice value. Soup of the day was a thick, rich sweet potato and parsnip. Very tasty and the crispy croutons on top were an added bonus. The 'Savoie' baguette was EXCEPTIONAL. The baguette was light, crispy on the outside, soft and airy inside. Just the right amount of filling - every ingredient could be tasted - all in balance - all full of flavour. I can still taste it now. It was so filling that we didn't have room for cakes - but they all looked gorgeous and I did try them in Bruntsfield so I can vouch that they do taste as good as they look. La Barantine is perfect for collecting your baguettes and croissants, or sitting in for cakes and a hot bevvie or for breakfast or lunch (if you can grab a table). read more

French patisserie cafe close to Edinburgh castle. Ordered a small hot chocolate, and a salmon cream cheese, tomato baguette. Crispy, savory, and paired very well, they offered a variety of other desserts from fruit tarts to French macarons; this place was a nice cozy pitstop to have a quick bite . Definitely a nice place to dodge the rain and have coffee or tea. read more

La Barantine is by far my favorite coffee shop I've ever been to, nicest employees, the best food and the best coffee.
