I follow multiple Scotland travel Instagram pages, and Mimi's Bakeshops came up as one of the best bakeries in town. They have multiple locations. It is great that in Scotland you will find gluten-free and vegan treats offered in most places for no additional charge. They are also incredibly flexible on food requirements. We decided to share the mini egg brownie and Easter cream egg slices. They were so delicious! Good tea and coffee also. We had a cozy banquette table so that I had a good street view. read more

Lovely little stop on High Street for a mid afternoon snack...or any time a pastry is required...no judging here. The scone was lovely, flavorful, that amazing mix of crumbly and dense. Mimi's is my new favorite spot in the city. The lady in the front was so friendly and patiently answered all of my questions. The scones came warm -- slightly baked on the outside, and soft on the inside -- with some of the most delicious clotted cream and strawberry jam I've ever had. Delicate chairs in candyfloss hues, tiny model birds in ornate cages, inviting and rotund jars of sweets on the windowsill, and the cakes, oh the cakes, lining the counter with a riot of colour and a promise of delight... This is my kind of place. Arriving a little early for my meeting over the road, I decided to take advantage of the time by finally sampling the delights of Mimi's, and I am so very glad I did. My day has thenceforth proceeded in a smooth, sweet, sugared manner much befitting a Friday. First of all, that raspberry and chocolate brownie. Now that's how you make a brownie! Big, gooey, and packed full of rich, rich flavour, it was the brownie of my dreams. You could probably have used my fork to perform surgery, I licked it so clean. Then there's that pot of Teapigs tea, which was exactly what I needed. I (most unlike me) didn't put sugar in it, because I think I might have had an aneurysm if I had sugar in my tea alongside a brownie like that. And it was a perfect pairing. The only dropped star here is that I would never have expected a brownie and a pot of tea to come to well over five pounds, but given the size - and oh the quality! - of the thing, it's not entirely unreasonable (slightly, but not entirely). I suppose I could say that this dropped star also covers the fact that every time I stood up, my head ended up instead the birdcage, but actually that would be inaccurate as a) it is my fault I am so very very tall like a gangly spangly heron and b) I quite enjoyed the experience and, had I been alone, might have remained there for some minutes singing and pretending to be the misfit giant birdie among all my teeny weeny feathery friends. My wife and I went to Scotland for a small holiday. We rented a flat on the Royal Mile close to Mimi's. One afternoon we walked by Mimi's and noticed delicious looking pastry. We stopped in for coffee and treats and immediately loved it. Just about every morning we would go there for breakfast and found it very satisfying. They made me an Americano Ice Coffee that was wonderful. My wife loved the porridge. I had an egg sandwich on a bagel and it was delicious. It was a great find and highly recommend it. read more

Aside from being a tiny store that's constantly packed, the actual products were pretty good. The fruit scone with butter and jam was delicious and pretty big--filled me right up for a mid-morning breakfast. I had to pick up a cupcake while I was there, too, but was pretty disappointed with my choice. The raspberry Nutella cupcake barely tasted chocolatey at all. It seemed the Nutella only lent itself to the color of the cupcake. The raspberry jam was tasty, but proportions seemed a bit off between cake and frosting. The frosting was also very thick and stuck to the roof of my mouth. Maybe just a miss with this particular cupcake, but overall a pleasant experience. + | Tasty, wide variety. Cute little dessert (and lunchy food) shop. We picked up some desserts to go, and were helped by a nice girl at the store. When we finally got to eat the desserts (a chocolate fudge thing and a jam thing) we enjoyed them very much, but they are a bit too sweet. I know that sounds weird to describe a dessert as too sweet but we could only take it in small bites over time. Still good! But one piece goes a long way! Husband and I enjoyed the jam one better for the varied flavor compared to just the plain mass of soft chocolate. read more

The razzle dazzle of Mimi's cupcakes may be more impressive than their taste, but they're still pretty darn good. They do a lot of seasonal flavors, and really have fun with the flavor combinations. Since we're close to Halloween, there's currently red velvet eyeballs and vanilla cupcakes with orange sugar crystals. read more

Go for the cupcakes. Stay for the hot chocolate. I loved my vanilla cupcake and hot chocolate (no marshmallow or cream necessary). Mimi's has a whole variety of cupcakes, but the simple and cute vanilla looks most worthwhile. Plus, it's gluten-free, which I didn't even know when I tasted it. The hot chocolate was creamy and chocolatey without being overwhelmingly sweet. The shop gets pretty crowded, so, even if you do manage to get a seat, it can be pretty uncomfortable. Overall, I would recommend stop in and taking something to go. read more

What a lovely new location on the Royal Mile! It's great to have a new wee Mimi's Bakehouse in the centre of town, but perhaps that is dangerous that it is so close to home! This location is small and only has a few tables, but it is fantasticly convenient for stopping in when heading up or down the Royal Mile. It is adorable with beautiful blue and white decorations, flowers by the main door, an ice cream window in the entryway and a shop overflowing with cupcakes and other beautiful cakes. They also have sandwiches, salads and cold drinks to take on the run. The shop just opened today and, although it is much smaller than the Leith location and without seating, it is great to have the essence of Mimi's cakes and atmosphere in the centre of town. It just opened today and, perhaps because of that, there were five eager staff wanting to serve me and help me make my difficult decision about which cupcake to choose! Everyone was extremely friendly and it was a great experience since Mimi's feels like a little oasis of charm and sweetness. It is a welcome new addition to the Mile! In the end I chose the Oreo cupcake. I brought it home and the cake was moist and delicious, rich chocolate and the frosting was good because it wasn't too sweet like others can be. The Oreo on top was very cute and tasted good, although it had lost its crispness. Mimi's can be a tad on the expensive side and it's not a place my wallet or waistline would like me to stop in every day; that said, it is a delicious treat! read more

I have gone there in two occasions and both of them have been disappointing. They charge you a lot more to sit in that take away which I consider is very bad, I know that they only have 3 small tables but still. First time I had a banana cupcake which I thought was more or less, too sweet for my taste. For that price I would expect something a lot better. Second time I went there just because it was raining so much and after a long walk I wanted to sit down, thought I would give the place a second chance. However this was a mistake. I had a reese's cheesecake that was completely disgusting. It was super sweet and tasted like of 3 days ago. I had to leave about half of it of how bad it was. I also tried the hot chocolate which tasted of too much butter on the chocolate but not any chocolate flavour. Again too sweet and just bad. :( read more

Several friends have recommended this place to me before I head to this place in person. Was looking forward to something that will surprise me but unfortunately...not. My friend ordered a chocolate one and I ordered a coconut cake. Both of them were way too sweet for us even though we both had the cakes with English tea with us. Prices were acceptable, though I don't think I'll spend more money on this... Note that this place was pretty small. Perhaps only 6-7 people can be seated. Details here is important so from how their bake goods look in the glass cabinet to the box they put them in for take away...Mimi thought about it and I appreciate it! The desserts here are solidly good! The cupcakes are moist and dressed in different types of sweets based on their flavour. While I'm not a big cupcake fan, I do try em here because they have different toppings and they look so appetising. I'm still not a big fan, but keep the creativity flowing. The rocky road bar here is one of fave. I know it's fairly simple bar of sweet but there's something about it that makes me want it every time I come here. Maybe it's the marshmallow they use or the chocolate base or the bright colours... Whatever it is, you have to try it. Their lemon crunch bar is also nice because it has the rich lemon tang but has a nice crunch maybe from the meringue? They have many other bars, cupcakes and cakes I haven't mentioned but since this location is smaller from the main one in leith... Their selection is fairly limited, which is a shame. Another downside with this location is the very limited space. It's really hard to get a table and enjoy a cup of tea with your sweets cause it's so small. Most of the time I just buy the sweets and take it to the park which is an amazing alternative! read more

I had just arrived in Edinburgh for the weekend and we popped in for a little teatime treat. I had my regular flat white and we both shared some generous portions of a cheese and chive scone, and coconut macaroon sandwich treat. The coconut macaroon was really sweet and tasty and had some cream sandwiched in between. The scone was really big and definitely enough to share between the two of us. You do have to add an extra 50p if you wanted some jam and clotted cream to go with it. The also had a nice array of cakes and cupcakes and looked really tempting. My husband and I walked by here after hiking Arthur's Seat and were in need for some lunch!! We are so glad we chose Mimi's because the lunch food AND the sweets were delish! We each got the soup of the day (pea) that was served with THE most amazing whole grain bread. We also split the mac & cheese which was seriously SO good, gooey & cheesy. Really yummy tray bakes ! Selection has been different each time I've been in there so anyways something new to look forward too ! I haven't bought their lunch items yet but they look good and are fresh and reasonably priced. Will try them soon. The cupcakes were good for UK standards. We popped in for a takeaway sweet after a bit of culture. Our choice of traybakes was 1 x Snickers Brownie and 1 x Cookies n' Cream bar. The brownie for both of us was too much cake like and seems to have a touch of un-cooked cocoa. Much preferred the cookies n' cream bar but the icing was way to sweet for my sweet tooth. The staff were attentive and quick, which you want if you are taking out. As in previous reviews like NIck S said that the hype was bigger than taste - I can agree on this. But for 2 cakes all in it £6 and to take out. The interior is typical Mimi's decor which just sings retro tastefully. A little disapointed in the taste department tho. read more

As is far too often the case, I walked out of Mimi's today thinking "what am I missing?" Initially I observed that everything was beautiful: the interior, the cakes and... oh, the cakes. This is not the original shop, it is provides merely a taster of what the Shore branch offers, but the cakes are here. That's what I came for. The cakes. Two friends and I got really excited upon seeing the cake counter. Red velvet woopie pies, victoria sponge macaroons, mars crispy cake? We all ended up opting for two cakes, one to eat in the park and the other to take home. I went for the mint aero tray bake and the carrot cake. The two came to just over £5. There was no where to sit so we decided to take away. The cakes came in a very pretty box. Whilst I am sitting here quite enjoying the aero tray bake, I have to say the cupcake was disgusting. The buttercream was tasteless, just pure fat and sugar and the cake itself did not taste like carrot cake. This is not something I would want to ever eat again. In places it actually tasted more like baking powder. I haven't given up all hope, but for now, sorry Mimi's, just not feeling (or rather, tasting) it. read more

I didn't know Mimi's had a shop near my work and after discussing cheesecake with a colleague we went for a lunch time hit. The premises is very small, I'm not sure the 40p surcharge on my cupcake was worth sitting in for, so I got a banana caramel one to go. I was presented with a pretty and functional carry box that kept my treasure safe. I was not disappointed, the cake was moist and filled with a thick buttery caramel. The frosting Is very sweet and I had to scrape some off so I didn't feel ill from sugar overload. Very enjoyable and definitely better than a supermarket cupcake! read more

Situated opposite the moorish fellow statue of Andrew Grey who fled to Morocco after being sentenced to death for rioting. Next to Gibbs Close which is where Burke and Hare the serial killers in late 1820's murdered a young pretty prostitute Mary Patterson is this fab coffee house. The walls are painted in duck egg blue with wrought iron tables, beautiful lighting and china displays. The girls serving were so attentive and took you through the large selection of cakes on offer. I had the snowflake mocha £3.00- double shot of Mimi's triple certified coffee mixed with gooey white mocha and decorated with a chocolate snow flake dusting, delicious! We also had the luxury hot chocolate £2.95 - with whipped cream and marshmallows, a winner. The cakes, oh the fab selection of beautiful mouth watering cakes were out of this world. The red velvet cupcake and peanut butter cookie were a sheer delight. Adorable little bakery for afternoon tea or a treat. I got the caramel shortbread (3 Euro) which was amazing. The shortbread was crumbly and the right level of saltiness to balance out the thick layer of chocolate and caramel, which more resembled butterscotch to me which I think is a really good thing. Popped in for a sweet snack. Had seen it the night before and since we were in the same area thought we would give it a try. The vanilla iced latte was perfectly sized and one of the best I've had. I tried the Crunchy Crunch (I think that was the name) which was a crunchy chocolaty treat that wasn't overwhelming. This is a nice spot to sit and get your sweet fix or to take a few treats away to enjoy. There isn't much seating so the latter might work out best. read more
