Gosh, so pretty, so Parisian and a little haven of loveliness just off Lothian Road…read more Small, cute and perfectly formed just like the jewel coloured macaron offerings, Mademoiselle Macaron, familiar to market goers, now has a permanent and cosy cafe on Grindlay Street. Inside the vibe is very French. Just a couple of tables and some stools at Le Tour Eiffel (seriously, go see). It is a place to linger, especially as one of the tables comes with two chaise longues!! Yep, you read that right. Gorgeous flowers and dresses as there is a French dressmaker on site too. Pick your fabric here, get measured and have your own unique dress (starting from £60). The stars of the show though are those macarons. Crumbly and slightly chewy in all the right ways, their pretty jewel colours tempting you in flavours like raspberry, lemon and lavender. For weekend hungover peeps, you may opt for Hendricks gin or Innis and gunn. For non macaron fans there are lovely French patisserie items such as chocolate eclairs, croissants, french strawberry tarts, mini lemon meringue tarts and a beautiful looking chocolate mouse cake. Patisserie is off limits for me but those macarons are gluten free :-) Coffee is by Steampunk and the white hot chocolate was gorgeous - hints of lemongrass and lavender without being over powering, bliss. So I suspect I'll be back here way too often in a way that my waist line may struggle. But those macarons, so light and pretty must have virtually no calories, oui? (Note: prices for hot choc about £2.50, macarons £1.20 each or 4 for £4 or 8 for £7 and patisserie - sweet items were priced around £2.60-£3). Cute coffee cup with macaron carriers available too!

So stopped by to warm up from the cold weather and sat beside the Eiffel Tower in the cafe lol I ordered 3 macarons and some green tea! I ordered a rose macaron, pistachio and an Innis and Gunn macaron. Rose is my favourite flavour! I love it so much because of how delicate it is in desserts so obviously I would love this macaron hehe same goes to pistachio! It's a classic flavour that won't go wrong. The Innis and Gunn one was completely new and quite special, and I LOVED it! You can taste the whiskey flavour without it being overwhelming! It was divine! I'm a bit of a macaron fanatic. I cannot accept macarons that are too sweet and taste like nothing but process sugar, that crack and are hard when you bite into them, and that are not the right shape or size. It's blasphemous i say, BLASPHEMOUS! What I can say about Mademoiselle Macaron is that her macaron creations tick all of the appropriate boxes. They're perfect, I swear! They're my absolutely favourites and so far, have not gone wrong at all! I've had her macarons like almost 10 times now and still feel this way about them haha Altogether my macarons and pot of tea were £6.10. Pretty good deal :) go and try em out!

There are so many teas that I've bought to make for myself at home and then totally screwed them up, usually by steeping them too long. The staff at Pekoe have been amazing at talking me through each tea. They will explain where the teas come from, describing the characteristics, and then brewing it properly. Some of the teas can have multiple infusions and the staff will happily bring over some freshly boiled water for the next round. Pekoe is a bit of an oasis on a street where it's hard to know what you're going to get. The shops and cafes around Pekoe are improving, but it's still a mixed bag. So I always feel a breath of fresh air when I arrive to Pekoe. This location has a different feel to the Stockbridge shop. I prefer this one slightly more. Oh... And did I mention they serve macarons from Patisserie Madeleine and baked goods from Cuckoo? It's a win+win+win

Inside is a mix of low ceiling, cozy booth areas, long tables great for parties, and a mezzanine that mezzanine with seating that overlooks a high ceilinged bar. Indoors has an elegant rustic feel, with lots of lovely wood and metal touches. Every single member of the staff we interacted with was SO nice and friendly, and they went above and beyond to accommodate our large group! Although our group only gave us a few menu options to choose from, my husband and I also ordered cocktails and their haggis scotch eggs with brown sauce. Their scotch eggs has haggis around them, and the brown sauce wasn't a gravy sauce like I was expecting, but a salty sweet surprise with an eel sauce consistency. These were my favorite! Our starter was the Sweet Potato, Chilli, and Coconut soup. I wasn't a big fan of this. I got no taste of sweet potatoes or coconut, the chilli overwhelmed everything. My husband and I ordered the King Prawn chilli Linguine with a ginger pesto. What we received was a major disappointment- these were by no stretch or the imagination king prawns. They were medium sized at best. Again, the linguine was overwhelmed by the chilli- so much my eyes watered and my nose ran before I gave up. Other diners voiced the same complaints. Dessert was great! Sticky toffee pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream- so delicious! I had a cocktail called Kissing in the rain, a flip containing gin, rhubarb, raspberry, and lemon with an egg white, shaken to perfection. It was delightful- I only with there was more of it! I also had the house white which was tasty, and my husband enjoyed his house ale. All in all, not bad, just lay off the chilli next time!

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.

It's not my ideal location for afternoon tea as it's loud and busy but it didn't bother us as we weren't there for the atmosphere. The two ladies working there were really friendly and took our drinks orders quickly. We both ordered tea. I love the tea a Patisserie Valerie because it's loose leaf and served in a suki teapot. We decided to sit outside and watch people go by. It was a Saturday afternoon so very busy. Our food came really quickly. I was very pleased to see scones and real clotted cream. We were also given a selection of mini jam jars which was a nice touch. Sandwiches were also really nice. The cakes on top weren't bad but it wasn't something I'd personally choose, except for maybe the chocolate one. I'm saying a-okay because I felt the tables were too small, and also the tables didn't appear to have been wiped down in a while. The staff didn't really come outside to clear things away when others had left either. But I'd say overall fast friendly service and yummy food!

I bought a coffee and a box of macarons to take to the meeting. The coffee curing my hangover and the macarons made my colleagues even happier than I expected. They were delcious, sweet, cruncy, smooth and light. Everything a good macaron should be. So lets call that a 5 star experience. The sitting in occasion was slightly less perfect. I ordered a latte and a frangipane tart and I took a seat. There were a few other people in the cafe but it was far from busy. The staff were nice enough and my order arrived relatively quickly. Unfortunately my coffee was awful. It's not often that I abandon caffeine but this time I was forced to. The tart was ok - I'd order it again but it wouldn't go to the top of the list. So lets call that a 3 star experience. I guess that's why on balance it gets four stars. Realistically, that sounds about right. I hope the nasty coffee was a one off because I'm bound to be temped back in by the cakes soon enough.
