Cuckoo's has now opened in Bruntsfield and it is as lovely and welcoming as Dundas St is. It is smaller - 10 seats and offers drinks and cakes so if you want to brunch then head to Dundas St. It is a beautiful space - all the Cuckoo's touches are there including a cuckoo clock. It is the attention to detail that makes this a stellar business - from the branded boxes and cups, saucers and own brand coffee to the rolling pin door handle. The customer service is second to none with lovely friendly staff and owners who love what they do which makes it a pleasure to visit. The cakes here are still the stars of the show! The haberdashery cabinet stores around 16 separate sections of cupcakes including a gluten free option or two. It is the gluten free options that bring me here again and again. Lovely, moist and well crafted cakes - the seasonal cakes are amazing and the sugar craft work is phenomenal! My fav's are the banana, apple berry and the carrot cakes. To be honest, I love anything gluten free that these guys do. I now have my office mates hooked on these cakes too and the newest location is very close to work! So, a welcome addition to Bruntsfield - well done to all at Cuckoo's for opening shop no.2 which is close to work and home for me so win, win! :-)

I love cuckoo's bakery! I love that I live close to this location! Cuckoos by far has the BEST cupcakes in all of Edinburgh, and I'd dare say in all of Scotland !!! SO tasty, moist, flavourful and the icing! O don't get me started AMAZING! What I like best is they always have such fancy combinations ... like a vanilla sponge with a white chocolate truffle in the middle and a Italian merengue dipped in white chocolate... things Id never attempt to try and make at home! I would love to work here so I could eat the cupcakes that don't sell at the end of each day... EVERYDAY FRESH CUPCAKES! yes its amazing! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!

Great place to relax and to have a Sunday treat. I decided to have, after a long debate because everything looked delicious, the two years in a row award winning raspberry and white chocolate cupcake. We also shared a rich chocolate and peanut butter milkshake. Will definitely be coming back!

Sugar Daddy's Cafe - Amazing selection of goodies, all gluten and or dairy free

Or many options for eating out. While that's the case we always look online. While in Edinburgh, we saw the website for Sugar Daddy and thought about stopping in if we happened by. While driving, we saw their smaller shop, quite by chance and so I double parked while my wife ran in to check things out. She was impressed by how diligently they worked to prevent any cross contamination of the different items... so she grabbed a sampling of products (4 or 5 of them actually) and she and the kids divided each of them in four to taste test them. Well everyone was BLOWN away by how tasty everything was! Our intent was to possibly come in the next day and grab more of what we liked... IF we liked anything. Our intent was to possibly come in the next day and grab more of what we liked... IF we liked anything. We didn't think they'd like EVERYTHING! That night after doing our sight seeing, we were SUPER bummed when Google told us that Sugar Daddy's was closed on Monday and Tuesday (Monday was our last day in town) and wouldn't be open again until Wednesday. We left for the Scottish Highlands, and while visiting Loch Ness she and the kids were lamenting about their missed opportunity to partake in more of Sugar Daddy's baked goods. They were so disappointed that I decided to alter our travel plans and to divert our route and drive an hour out of our way to hit Edinburgh SOLELY for the purpose of visiting Sugar Daddy's again. We swung through Edinburgh and visited the larger location... met the owner who explained the passion that he and his wife have for baking, and for "doing it right"! This passion translated into the variety of products they bake on site as well as those that they carry because they acknowledge that there are other artisans that can produce some superior products to their ability. They bring in loaves or bread and naan bread, and bake all the sweets. My wife and kids proceeded to by over $75 worth of sweets (donuts, cupcakes, brownies and cookie sandwiches) which they had tried before as well as loaves of bread, and multiple packs of naan bread based on the owner's endorsement of them. Unlike my wife and kids, I can eat anything... and do! And I have a sweet tooth like no other, and will frequent a variety of bakers wherever I go. Based on their enthusiasm, I decided to order a pumpkin cookie sandwich (pumpkin cookies with sweet frosting in the center). I didn't ask for one of each of the other things for myself, because frankly, I was a bit skeptical. Let me tell you that cookie sandwich compared to ANY product I've eaten at a gourmet patisserie or restaurant! Over the past three days, it's been my turn to lament as I have watched them eating those incredible sweets each day as we come back from sightseeing and going to shows in London. We can't recommend Sugar Daddy's enough... and have a standing offer to open up a franchise in VA! We LOVE Sugar Daddy's.. oh and by the way... the Roseneath location is open every day!

Real talk: I do not like cupcakes…read more I know, I know, I'm like the culinary scrooge of Edinburgh. I do not like them in a box. I do not like them with a fox. (Now i'm just meshing childhood villains together... you get my point). I do not like cupcakes. USUALLY. In fact, I don't think I would have wandered into Cuckoos, had it not been for the "distracted by shiny objects" side of my personality. I knew it had great reviews, but it wasn't really on my radar until I saw their display cake and the PRETTIEST cupcakes that ever there were. So I went in and against my better judgement - I bought a cupcake. Real talk revised: I do not like cupcakes UNLESS they're from Cuckoos. Holy heck Batman, that's a fine cupcake! I went with the Sticky Toffee one, because since moving here, I realize that anything Sticky Toffee is going to be damn good and damn good it was. The icing was a bit much for me - i've never been a big icing gal, but everything under that layer was pure joy. Pure. Cupcake. Joy. Not to mention, they are basically a instagrammers dream... if you remember to take a picture before inhaling the thing, the staff are the sweetest and they offer gluten free options, online ordering and the minor detail that won me over: the boxes have individual holes for each cupcake, so when you're balancing two boxes on your way to a 9am meeting, you don't end up with smushed cupcakes upon arrival. They obviously think this stuff through and it shows in everything they do. I'm holding that five star for a sit in experience but overall, this place changed my mind on what I previously thought was overdone trend baking. Definitely worth popping your head in the door.

The location, tucked away on a side street away from the hustle and bustle of Prince's Street, means that you won't be fighting with people for a table, as although it can get busy around lunch, you likely wouldn't find it unless you knew what you were looking for. The staff is extremely helpful and nice and helped make the whole experiance very pleasant. I will note that the prices are a bit high, although that's expected when all vegan ingredients are used. Their signature brunch item, pink-hued waffles, make for a lightly crispy meal with a delicate spongy interior, and comes with a generous helping of fruit on the side. The espresso is good, with a impressive custom coffee machine and a wide selection of milk alternatives - although the chai latte was a bit weak in spice and flavor and could've been more thoroughly mixed. Another interesting item they do is an all-vegan version of the Scottish Breakfast. As that is traditionally an almost all meat meal, this a quite impressive feat, although I've never been a huge fan of imitation meats. If you're looking for a healthful brunch/lunch meal, especially if you are vegan or vegetarian, I recommend Naked Bakery! They also produce a selection of cakes and pastries which customers were coming in for throughout our meal.

I adored the lime, poppyseed, and blueberry roulade! It was gone before the soup and toastie sandwich arrived. Crispy on the outside and so very soft and tasty on the inside. The cookie pie was impressive, but I honestly liked the roulade so much better. The soup today was broccoli and it was delicious! I had a ham and cheese sandwich lightly grilled in a panini press. Mom had a chorizo sandwich. The ladies at the bakery were lovely! Friendly happy folk always make food taste better! The bakery was quiet and not busy at 12:30 pm. It wasn't empty, just not busy.
