    Review Highlights - Söderberg Bakery

Apparently this is the 2nd bakery they open in Edinburgh, after the original Peter's yard cafe and bakery in Quartermile and the second one in Stockbridge.

Okay if you google best dessert places in Edinburgh, you will read about Coro Chocolate. First,…read morethey're open later than most places, not by much but enough that it counts. Second, their team (whose names now I have forgotten which is a shame) are extremely helpful and patient. They know their stuff. I was seated quickly and was given the menu and my eyes...my eyes were bigger than my stomach which is the other shame. My favorite was the Millionaire Shortbread Crepe. I mean come on. That thing was decadent, rich and just enough. That was probably the only dessert I was able to complete. Next, was similar to what we Americans call a pazookie. Nutella everywhere. I should've known that this would be the richest, creamiest and thickest of all. I probably should've ordered water but instead I craved a hot chocolate. I also ordered a hot chocolate which was dark chocolate I believe. Perfect for the cold weather. Unfortunately was stuffed by the time this came out. 10/10 recommend. Service is spectacular, team is friendly and genuinely enjoys being there and desserts, I mean cmon you can tell by the photos. Worth the hype. Worth the money and overall just a good place to hangout after exploring the city.

They have pancakes, waffles, bubble waffles, and crepes and you can create your own (each topping is extra) . They also have brownies, cake, or cookie dough bites and hot chocolate. We ordered the Nutella hot chocolate and the brownie with ice cream (extra). FYI they put marshmallow UNDER the whipped cream and one on top with the hot cocoa. I liked the cocoa, disliked the brownie. The brownie tasted more like a chocolate cake to my daughter and I. My daughter disliked the cocoa but liked the brownie. I also feel like for the price of the ice cream, it can be a bigger scoop. I was so excited to try this spot but overall, I feel it could've been skipped on our trip

In the front of the establishment you are served various luscious flavors of ice cream and in the back you can relax and enjoy. They have very comfortable couches where you can lie back and day dream, read or chat with another. When I recently visited I got the Banoffee and Caramel Flavors. My friend ordered some fruity scoop ...... They also sell Salted Caramel, Amarena, Gingerbread, Yoghurt, Pistacchio........about 18 flavors in total. The ice cream is creamy and just the right amount of sweet. Just luscious. You get a lot of ice cream for affordable prices. 1 scoop = £2.50, and the portion is massive. They offer even two or more flavors in one scoop. Next time I will try and get an "Affogato", a mix of coffee and ice cream. I learned that Affogato means drowning, so clearly the idea behind ice cream drowning in coffee :-) Also beware! The parlor is closed on a Sunday night after 18.00, what is a shame, as it would be nice to enjoy some delicious ice cream before bed time.

Also conveniently accessible by bus. There is not much sitting space, such best to book in advance. We got a lovely table at the front window (which by the way is the only table in the front of the shop). I believe there is a very small sitting area in the back. You can find lots of chocolate variations on display on cupboard shelves. At the moment they offer 10% off chocolate bars before a certain time of the day. There are also macaroons, ice cream a (not gelato), pralines and little "cakes". Above the main entrance you see the drink menu written on huge chalk boards: Traditional chocolate, one for kids and one for adults, white chocolate, milky chocolate, dark chocolate and much more. They do coffee too. I ordered salted caramel ice cream and milk chocolate, which was the best hot milk chocolate in Edinburgh so far, and not to mention I got served plenty of it in a big mug. Definitely worth the money. Must confess, my eyes were bigger than my stomach and next time a hot chocolate will be plenty :-) They are also present with stalls at various Edinburgh markets, like Stockbridge. Its an ideal place to take away and enjoy the "pleasures" somewhere else.

If you like chocolate, you will LOVE The Chocolate Tree. Located in the trendy Bruntsfield area, it is in the perfect position to sit in and gorge or sit out and gorge. Their chocolates are all organic (so at least your conscious feels good about eating copious amounts of chocolate...) The decor is very chic, trendy and indulgent. Indeed, I think Indulgence is a theme in the cafe. My first visit was under sad circumstances - recently single and feeling vulnerable, my friend took me and ordered me the 'Spanish Hot Chocolate' (see picture). Oh My God. Where I was feeling despairing, distraught and dismayed I was overcome with delight, deliriousness and felt thoroughly delectable!! It was perfect...perhaps a bit rich, but the first few sips were to die for. It even came with a little dough cake-thing to dip into the thick, gloopy chocolate, like fondue! It would have been ideal for two to share. To be honest, I'm not what you would call a choc-a-holic - especially now that Cadbury's is no longer considered 'chocolate'. But there is something for everyone to enjoy, whether its a slice of their GLORIOUS chocolate cake (it was delicious, after a while I felt I should find a mirror to check if my pupils had dilated) or one of their mini chocolate bites. If you can't make it to the shop they sell online and they're much cheaper than their competition ( it's one of their ethical principles, woohoo!). It really is worth visiting, on a warm summer day to lounge and indulge yourself, or on a cold winter evening to keep yourself warm. It's the sort of place I imagine Harry Potter would sit in...

The food is authentic, delicious, and extremely good value! We visited for a meal before a concert on Lothian Road, and were one of only two couples at the place initially. (A much larger group arrived just as we finished, so I'm glad that timing worked out!) I wanted pasta, so ordered a simple spaghetti bolognese. Mary ordered a pizza with a variety of vegetables. We brought our own bottle of wine, after reading previous reviews that suggested free corkage. BYOB is absolutely fine, but the corkage is NOT free. It cost £2 for the bottle of wine. However, it's fine, because the rest of the meal was very good value. That said, I am a little confused about the corkage cost, because I did not see any alcohol for sale on the menu... The food, when it arrived, was excellent. The portions were generous, everything tasted great. We also had garlic bread as a starter and apple pie for dessert. The decor of the place is very simple, nothing fancy here. There are nice pictures from Italy (mostly Sicily), and some AC Milan decor. Angelo certainly isn't very talkative, but he's welcoming, and makes good food. Recommended.

The interior is decorated in plastic flowers, plastic fruit and blue tiling. However, I urge you to look past this as it all adds to the unique experience of Marcella and, if you are anything like me, you will learn to love the quirks of this establishment. Serving big plates of hot, tasty, filling food at budget prices is my go to place after a long, cold, grey Edinburgh day. A huge plate of pasta, garlic bread and a drink will set you back £5. If you want to splash out on a three course feast you won't be out of pocket by more than around £12. As well as great pizza and pasta you should also try one of the many sweet pies and pastries he erves. Rather than going to one of the many coffee shop chains around, head to Marcella and get yourself a pie and cappucino for the same price as a skinny latte in a certan multi national coffee chain that shall remain nameless!
