Walked in for dinner since my friends were looking for someplace to get a Scotch Egg while we were in Edinburgh. Really nice staff, great service and good food!

Came during a down time. Friday morning about 1130 for breakfast and a drink. Really cool spot. Looks like it would be a great place for any occasion. Good food, good drinks, and the service was good as well. Recommended weather you're by yourself or with a big group. I believe you can make reservations for a bit group as well. Very much enjoyed my time here and would go back.

It's Sunday, the day after the night before which incorporated bizarre cocktails, far too many pre-going out amarettos and Coronas and a rock club that doubled as a time machine, transporting you backwards exactly nine or ten years. You've got work again tomorrow and you're in for a three hour plus rail journey that afternoon. What do you need? AWESOME FOOD! But what's better than awesome food? Awesome food available on a two for one basis in a really pleasant place. Now I'm assured that when this spot gets busy it does become far less serene and more bustling and jostling, and that tends to be during the post-office hours when the suits descend upon it like buzzards to some poor lost soul in the desert. On this quiet Sunday, however, its tranquility was just what the doctor ordered. I grabbed myself a goat's cheese salad and Mr M opted for the ribs. Now, you know by now I'm not some frou-frou twee low fat type who likes a lettuce leaf and a bit of rabbit food. I want my salads to be proper, big and substantial and meal-like, and this was indeed all of the above. Check my photo for evidence - gargantuan hunk of crusty bread topped with a huge slab of goat's cheese, balsamic dressing with fresh cherry tomatoes and rocket... heaven. It beat me, I couldn't even finish the thing. And those ribs were insane, once again check the pics for visuals. Can't argue with the portion sizes here! The desserts look amazing too. So, that's money-saving potential, hefty food plates, a TV with some kind of bike race on it, lovely friendly service and very nice decor? Thumbs up all round, methinks.

This is an exceptionally light and airy venue, it feels like you're in a posh southern European coffee shop (then when you look outside it's pelting rain against the window - ignore that) The dining area has been sort of cleverly penned off using thought out interior architecture, so it's certainly cosier and more intimate. None of the food is good for you, which doesn't bother me in the slightest but my more "aware" friend was getting a bit antsy. We stayed for a drink after and it was how can I put it - just alright. The bouncer letting big groups of lads in was probably a mistake as it was filled with rugby sorts being a bit obnoxious, which turned a nice supper into a bit of an annoyance.

Went here for lunch recently with friends and really liked the atmosphere and decor. We were sat in a comfortable booth and mostly chose things from the offer on the menu (I think it might have been 2 mains for £10). Nik and I shared a starter as I was intrigued to try the wild mushrooms on sun-dried tomato toast. This was very nice but I was a bit disappointed as the toast we received was actually just rustic wholemeal (although still tasty). We both had the burger as our main course and they were delicious! Well cooked, nicely seasoned and juicy but with crispy edges. I also liked the accompaniments and drinks we chose. I had a blueberry smoothie and fizzy water. I loved the glasses they were served in too! Dessert was a bit more of a let down. We all ordered hot chocolates as they sounded amazing (made with melted chocolate, not powder) and we all chose the double chocolate one rather than the more unusual rose & black pepper or lemongrass & white chocolate. We also paid the extra for macarons on the side (even me as I wanted to take them home) and I ordered the mulled cherry rice pudding as it sounded too good to miss! My rice pud came first, served in a kilner jar it was nice and hot and very tasty. The cherries were lovely with a hint of spices and just enough tartness against the sweet, creamy rice pud. Unfortunately our hot chocolates took ages to arrive and some of them were barely warm when they did come. I'd already finished my pudding and our macarons were served first so we had waited patiently only to be disappointed. The other weird thing was that we all agreed they tasted spicy - like chilli chocolate. When I questioned our waitress about this she asked the guy who'd made them and we saw his incredulous reaction as he exclaimed "Chilli?!?" Apparently, they were just plain chocolate but since all four of us tasted a kick, we have no idea where that came from. I'm glad it wasn't just me going mad! Our first server was much more efficient and capable than our second. The macaron flavours we all chose were quite mixed up and some had to be changed as she'd forgotten what we asked for. She seemed a bit confused at times and we were worried about asking about the hot chocolates. I sent mine back as I wasn't enjoying it, even if I was given another hot one I wouldn't have liked it. Given the time we'd spent waiting, I didn't want to order another hot drink as everyone would be waiting and as I said, I'd already finished my pudding. She was quite insistent that she could bring me another but eventually accepted that I really didn't want one. My hot chocolate was taken off the bill and I was allowed to keep my macarons so that did make up for some of the disappointment. Overall, it was good value for money. Lara's starters (she had 2 starters instead of a main) were particularly good value as the portions were huge and looked delicious! I would go back again as the issues I've mentioned above were only minor and we did enjoy the food.

I came here with my brother during Christmas time, and it just gave me butterflies to walk in! The decorations were fantastic and the whole atmosphere was electric. You could have been anywhere in the world! The whole place is really cool, it's designed well and it's easy to maneuver around. The food is good too - pretty standard really. I had chicken noodles in sweet chilli and my brother had chicken with leeks. He loved it, and so did I -albeit a little bit spicy. We had a bottle of red wine with our meal, and my chocolate brownie was the best I've ever tasted!! It all came to a grand total of £22 - we nearly choked! Turns out there was a 2 for 1 deal we had inadvertently signed up for. It's a lovely place and I've been back several times since and never been disappointed!

Indigo Yard looks amazing, the decor is authentically modern, with a nice "bookcase style" bar (with a little ladder for getting certain wines and spirits.) They also have a decent range of draft beers, however only one cider, and everything on tap is pretty expensive. I don't mind expensive, as long as the service justifies the cost of the drinks, which it didn't really to be honest. There were approximately five people behind the bar, and not that many people waiting for drinks but it was taking a relatively long time to be served, there seemed to also be a bit of an arrogance about some of the servers, no real chat, no conversational tones - which was a real shame. Needless to say, I can't really complain about the overall visit however if a thing or two went differently this review easily could have been 5 stars.

Loving Indigo Yard! At first I actually thought it was an extension to the back of Pizza Express...I know, I am blonde after all. I like the atmosphere. It sort of feels relaxed and cool, and makes you feel relaxed and cool at the same time. The crowd is a bit of a mixture, from young uns to students to the more mature customer to couples, it has something for everyone. As well as being a bar, it's also a restaurant, so you can have a little nibble with your Pinot Grigio. It isn't the cheapest place to drink though, a cocktail setting you back around £7-9, which means you could have a couple here then move onto somewhere a bit cheaper on a night out! I recommend the Preston's Fizz, a new concoction I had never heard of before. It was a delicious mix of chambord, vodka and fresh raspberries over ice with some fizz to top it off. Yum! A really funky bar!

A lot of people don't actually know that there is a large outdoor area in between the bar and…read morehotel which is good for summertime. I sat at the bar area which is usually not too overcrowded. The waiters were very polite and attentive. I ordered the liver, mushroom and bacon as starter. Delicately and perfectly cooked liver. Most of livers I have tried are just overcooked. My main dish was lamb cutlet. Lamb is usually cooked medium / pink but I think this time they have overcooked it slightly. The crust was also not as flavourful as some of the lamb cutler I have tried. However, the beans and potatoes that came with it were perfectly cooked and flavourful. My dessert was the rice pudding. I think the ingredients were excellent when paired with the mandarin oranges. The way they prepare the rice pudding was like creme brûlée with melted sugar at the top of the moulded rice pudding. However, the rice was on a slightly on the dryer and harder texture. Can't really fault this place much but maybe some improvement can be done to further enhance the quality of the food. Wouldn't mind coming again to try the other food on their menu.

I don't think he was very impressed with the shrimp and scallop skewer he added on, and seemed disappointed his chips were just average (though, I don't know why he wanted chips when they had other side options). However, my roast dinner was perfection. Everything on my plate was cooked expertly and the portion size was just right. I also appreciated that they offer mocktails, as I do not drink alcohol. I had one that was a very tasty mix of perfectly ripened fruits such as strawberry and kiwi with lemonade. I definitely plan on coming back for drinks on the sidewalk seating, if not for Sunday dinner again. It was a lovely evening. The only thing that I was not 100% on was the decor. It was a little plain/random and not in a chic minimalist kind of way. Still nice in the old building, though. There were stairs/a lift down to the restrooms.

As the bells and whistles of the evening were organized by someone else, I didn't have any say over the hosting venue.... which can be a bit nerve wracking when you're a little ocd event planner. When Harry's Bar & Grill was mentioned, I immediately took to Google and... proceeded to have a minor panic attack. My Google search brought up the former Harry's Bar and the reviews/photos were about as polar opposite as I'd want for a swanky steak event... I knew they had renovated, but really... how much different could it be? Very. Very freaking different. COMPLETELY different. Thank the event gods! I'm not sure if the staff noticed my audible sigh and not so subtle happy dance when I walked through the door but walking into this beautiful, contemporary room was like Christmas. The space is lovely, polished and a complete 180 from its former inhabitant. They have a great bar space, good outdoor seating and a swanky atmosphere, without being stuffy. Plus: they have wifi. *Happy Dance* So we settled into our evening, where the Harry's Bar team were in charge of grilling up the steaks for our table. No problem there, they happen to have a Josper oven. Read: fancy pants charcoal oven. *Happy Dance* Not to mention, really damn fine chips and a decent whisky selection behind the bar. *Happy Dance* It's also a ten minute walk from my house, is open at lunch... and did I mention the solid wifi? *Happy Happy Happy Dance* Needless to say, what I imagined might be a total train wreck of an evening, turned into one of my most pleasant event surprises. I should be more trusting... especially when steak and chips are involved.

I was one of the lucky few that attended the Yelp event at Harry's which featured a butchery demonstration from Gilmour Butchers. (see all the fab reviews here http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/yelp-workshop-john-gilmour-edinburgh ). We were all blown away by the setting, the atmosphere, the food, the Josper grill but before rushing to review Harry's Bar and Grill, I wanted to come back when it wasn't an event so that I could get a feel for the menu and the service. My husband was so jealous that he couldn't come to the event so we went right back this weekend. Harry's Bar and Grill was relaunched only 2 months ago. I was never there before but rumour has it this refurb is an epic improvement! Well, whoever they hired to do the design totally nailed it. When you head down the stairs off of Randolph place and enter Harry's you instantly feel comfortable and relaxed. All the elements are in balance. Although it is long and thin, it still feels spacious especially at the bar area. As you get to the back, the big booths, exposed stone and brick and rough sawn wood floors and tables are both contemporary and cosy. My hubby instantly declared that he could hang out there all day. (good thing they weren't showing cycling on the big screen Telly or he may just do that!). Now, I already knew that they had the amazing 400C Josper charcoal grill and served prime dry aged Scottish beef from Gilmour Butchers and seafood from my favourite local fishmonger - Welch's; but I also discovered the chefs were Italian. Most people think Italian food is all about the pasta and pizza but Italians seriously know how to work a grill - I've had the best grilled meat and seafood in Italy so I was ready to put the full menu to test. During our event we sampled every single cut of beef and I was ready for more but then I saw the menu. BEST MENU I HAVE SEEN IN AGES! We wanted EVERYTHING. This was a menu put together by people who really wanted to serve the best in local produce and to totally do it justice. I love seafood and this menu had it all - calamari, scallops, seabass, lobster, langoustines....There were only 2 of us and a dozen things we wanted to try. With the help of the smiliest, sweetest waitress we chose: Calamari and crispy seabass fillets for me; Scallops and Rib-eye for the hubby. Sides were the chunky chips that wowed us at the event and the crispy, buttery green veg (which I tried to make at home last night). Everything was cooked to perfection. It was the best calamari I have ever had - I even teased the waiter that I was having more for dessert (in the end I was swayed by chocolate). Don't tell Harry's but it was a really generous portion - I did share a couple pieces with the hubby and still feel like I had plenty. It was big pieces (not skinny rings), lightly dusted with flour and fried to be a little crispy on the outside but the white meat was soft and tender - better than lobster! I only had one set of tentacles which were crispy and salty and tender. The scallops were so fresh that they melted as soon as they hit my tongue. The rest of the meal continued in the same fashion. Fresh, simply cooked, full of flavour. Desserts were basic - but I would say fill up on the fab food and finish with a coffee and a shortbread (also melt in the mouth). The best thing was that this was simple, good food and a reasonable price (3 courses, coffee, Innis and Gunn beer - yes even the beer is local!) for under £80. This is food you can eat on a fairly regular basis. This is a space that you want to hang out in on a regular basis. These were people you want to hang out with on a regular basis. On our way home we reminisced about what might have been one of the best meals we've had in Edinburgh and we hatched a plan - keep coming back until we try the whole menu. See you next week Harry's :D

Really liked it a lot!…read more Came here on a 5pm deal and figured that if it wasn't great then at least there wasn't much lost. Hotel restaurants can be really hit and miss but not here. Nira Caledonia is a boutique hotel in Stockbridge so not somewhere I'd find myself attending usually but a deal is a deal so off I went. I've just realised I was about to score this 4* but actually, when I think through what I'm about to write then I have to give it 5*'s. Not treated like deal scum - little amuse bouche of potato salad with trout and roe - yum, yes please and I don't even like potato salad, but I LOVE it here. Little bread sacks - evil, non GF bread for the friend, plenty of GF bread for me with chive, truffle and ordinary French butter - oh, go on then. Yum, yum. Portions are big, struggled to finish my main - 1/2 pheasant with mash after starter and little extras as mentioned above. Absolutely couldn't do dessert although the plates going passed us looked amazing. If GF, the kitchen can amend dishes to accomodate to let the server know. And what tipped this into 5 stars? The wine. We ordered a Pinot Grigio - I have to confess this is not a favourite of mine as I consider it somewhat bland but yum. Zesty and fresh it worked well with everything we ate. I'd return for this wine alone. So the service was fab, the food, the wine and even on the cheap deal, the food was outstanding. So I'll go back and I'd love to try their steaks which are meant to be amazing!
