    Sunday roast
    Nick C.

We got 3 reservations to split up our group of 8 adults and 2 kids, so we were all able to make sure to get a table and have the Sunday roast. We shared the ultimate sharing roast and everything was delicious and so filling. It was also nice to be able to sit and watch a match while enjoying the food. The coffee was pretty good too. This is definitely a good option if you're looking for a Sunday roast in the area

What a lovely spot! I made a reservation and found it clever how they embraced the library vibe, using books to denoted a table has been booked. Service was warm and helpful. Hubs ordered the duck fat mac and cheese, which was rich and truly the flavor of duck fat. I ordered the vegetarian Wellington and found it delightful without being heavy. The greens, potatoes, and pumpkin were all great components to the fish, just lovely for a Sunday dinner. Make a resy and try it out!

If you want that quintessential Scottish pub experience this is your place. The place is lively especially during a soccer game. I ordered their "famous" meat pies (chicken pot pie) and it was delicious. Service was fast and they checked in to see if you wanted another beer. I loved the atmosphere.

One thing that's tricky about Edinburgh is that there are pubs for drinking only and pubs for food as well. Some you need a reservation for. Others you just walk in. Some stop at a certain time while others do food all night. In order to avoid the madness, we made a same day reservation at Queens Arms. I was a little worried a place with same day available wouldn't be good, but I was wrong. What a great experience!! This place gets packed and they do save the tables for reservations. We had a nice seat and immediately ordered food and drink. The fish and chips were sooo good and paired well with some Mac and cheese. Everything was amazing and we ate it all up! This place is a gem!

    Burger and chips, delicious!

Loved the ambiance of this pub! A short walk from our hotel in Edinburgh's New Town area. Like most pubs, you order yourself at the bar. We ordered a a couple pints of a cask ale and cider, a meat pie and a burger. Good food, service, price. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a great pub experience.

Great spot! Super casual with a lovely atmosphere. There are lots of nooks and crannies, so it's great for a group of friends.

We arrived without a reservation on a busy Sunday night craving a fine Scottish Sunday roast supper / the barmaid said the kitchen was backed up and it would be at least 45 min, but we could sit at the bar and wait. 25 minutes and a few drinks and crisps later the most delicious Sunday roast of my life appeared before us! Friendly people, nice ambiance and fantastic food - would definitely recommend

Pretty solid downtown pub. I wandered in here and grabbed a table on showery afternoon. The service was a bit sketchy, but the lentil & carrot soup was excellent. The haggis, neaps & tatties was available in a half-size "mini" portion. The pints and whisky flights were fairly priced.

Cozy spot for a pint and an amazing burger! Book lined walls made me feel a bit smarter as I enjoyed my drink. Place is also flanked with TV's for sports watching.

Big pub that had a lot of people around the bar on a Thursday afternoon. Was asked to secure a door at the bar without a wait and ordered some food. Menu is concise, albeit expensive. Opted for the Fish & Chips (£17) and a Moonwake XPA (£7) to wash it down. The fish were a couple of haddock fillets, lightly breaded, served alongside a pile of fries and mushy peas. Fish is cooked well, could have had more salt/flavoring in the breaded portion. Fries were great with some vinegar. The beer is very light and went nicely with the oily fried fish. The bartenders here were very efficient and came by often enough despite the crowd. Good enough spot for some pub food.

I came here for my first meal after arriving in Edinburgh - it was just the vibe I was looking for. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was very casual and welcoming. The fish and chips were nice and crispy and I was pleased with the portion size.

What is there not to absolutely adore about an old pub where the walls are lined with wooden bookshelves; pictures of the royals from every era? Be prepared because you either need a reservation or you're gonna wait. We made the mistake of being unaware the first night and had to reserve for our second night.... But it was worth it. We were seated at a 4 top in the corner by rows of books in big, comfy, leather chairs across from the bar. The service is typical for the UK. As an American it's just something you have to become accustomed to there. It's not bad; just different. The staff were friendly and the food was amazing! Honestly you could probably split a plate because the servings were massive.... You can't leave hungry. It was definitely worth our time considering we had very little in Edinburgh.

Great pub atmosphere. Ate in the back - very attentive staff. Could not have asked for a better experience. Food was very good with decent amount of offerings.

As someone who truly loved little about Scotch, it was a wonderful way to taste and compare smoky vs peaty whiskeys. Fun. Our table was upstairs and we sat next to an open door which allows for fresh cool air. It was a warm day in Edinburgh. Our server was wonderful, patient and really helpful. Our choices were truly delicious. We started with the fish board, olives, and mushroom skewer. We loved them all. I enjoyed the cod main dish, while my wife finished the starters. The side of asparagus was also excellent. The mouse dessert was delicious but very rich, it's enough for 4 people. The cost of dinner was also totally reasonable. I recommend this place highly.

The one weird thing -- we were unsure when we arrived how hungry we would be, and the menu is a bit limited. We decided to order just the cheese board and see where we were after that. We were told that once we placed an order, we would not be permitted to put in any more food due to a "small kitchen." I have never heard this rule worded in quite this way. I have been to places that prefer you place everything at once, but not that you would absolutely not be allowed to order more food if you found yourself hungry. We witnessed another table leave because of this rule. The server communicated this rule quite gruffly. The restaurant was also not very busy at all, so couldn't have been crowding concerns. I would definetly recommend for drinks and apps, but, for dinner, perhaps elsewhere.

Today when the Red route took us to old town and I saw The White Hart Inn I said to Jan let's do an early dinner there and she agreed. We continued the route and stayed on back to the stop in old town. We love Alfresco dining but it was too cold and windy today. We went inside and the restrauant was packed. It's open seating. No hostess, no sign in. We were lucky and just happened to be standing next to a table that opened. We had been there about 5 minutes. The restaurant/ pub is rich in history, established in 1516. It's small with limited bar seating and prehaps 8 to 10 tables. It is noisy from conversation, tosting and music, but we didn't have a hard time communicating. It has a great vibe. It's a fun venue and popular with the locals. The menu is not large and has several Scottish offerings. To start, Jan was cold and wanted an Irish coffee. I ordered an Innis and Gunn larger. Innis & Gunn is an acclaimed Scottish brewery founded in 2003 in Edinburgh. It had a slightly citrus flavor. Jan ordered muscles and I ordered the steak and ale pie, served with a charred Hispi cabbage wedge, buttered mash and Merlot beef dripping gravy. It was very tasty, very robust flavor. I loved the cabbage; great flavor. I had to look up hispi cabbage and it is a variety of green cabbage. The muscles were good and the broth very nice. We had a lovely time and a good meal.
