    Glenfiddich 12-Year-Old Whiskey

I'm not going to lie, I walked in here because the name of this pub has the same name as a bar in a favourite show of mine. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by the quaint, old-timey interior and cozy ambiance. It doesn't have that loud and obnoxious vibe that most bars and pubs in the UK do. My second shock - in a good way - was how affordably-priced the whiskey is compared to other establishments in my London stomping grounds; probably because this is the source of most things whiskey. The food is also surprisingly good despite its bar setting. The burgers, chicken, nachos, and even the haggis are all safe bets here. If you have space, I highly recommend their traditional Scottish Cranachan dessert, which is a hefty serving of whipped cream, honey, a dash of whiskey, raspberries, and golden toasted oats. I liked the extreme level of thick creaminess, however, the flavour was a bit too bitter for my tastes, even with the added honey and berries. The space also offers a few tidbits of history, so come in and stay awhile. If you're not a local, it's sure to leave a warming reminder of your time in Scotland.

It was a busy Friday night but we were able to get a table quickly. They have live music and a lively crowd. I've had plenty of haggis this trip so I opted for the burger, which was very good. The service was as good as the food and we would definitely go back.

The Last Drop was a cozy little dinner and drinks spot, right on the Royal Mile. We had a beer and an espresso martini to start. The espresso martini was just your typical espresso martini, which is all I wanted. We ordered a couple pies (obviously!) Both were amazing! The potatoes and gravy were also SO good. I ate more of my potatoes than pie! I actually liked the carrots, and I never like cooked carrots. Overall, it was a great, hearty meal to warm you up. The service was great and quick, and everyone was very kind.

First off great service and welcoming spirit. I loved our waiter and the people around us, a great place in Edinburgh, Scotland. Firstly I got the nachos appetizer it was very nice and tasty maybe not enough cheese but very good never the less. I got a cranberry juice (my favorite drink) for my drink and it was a good accompanied by my order, the chicken burger. It was so delicious, a savory sensation and explosion of lettuce to the mouth. It also had greatly cooked crispy chicken, and this savory sauce which worked well you could dip on it, sort of like a duck sauce. I really enjoyed the chicken burger after a long day and ate it quickly alongside my chips which were great accompanied by the ketchup. Also my sister ordered the pesto gnocchi. She said she enjoyed it however it was very cheesy and tasted unhealthy. Could've used a little less cheese and perhaps the option to add a protein on sure if this was offered or not. My family also got the nachos to share. They were great, however didn't have enough cheese lol. My brother also got the sirloin steak. It was mediocre. The side of chips were what you'd expect. My brother had the gnocchi and was surprised by how cheesy it was. It was difficult for him to find his pasta deep beneath the cheese. He would've appreciated a warning on the menu that said ultra cheese pasta so he could've came and prepared. Overall, he felt that the dish was a little bit unhealthy and he had ordered pasta, hoping that it would've been more healthy. So perhaps it could say cheesy unhealthy gnocchi. I wish that my brother was provided with more vegan options because veganism is good for the world. My mother ordered a steak which she thought was good. It was seasoned well and she enjoyed it. She also ordered a Mojito, which she really thought was made well. Her complaint was about the bathroom when she walked into the bathroom. The ladies bathroom has two double doors, one set of doors and then another one immediately afterwards and in between the two doors there seems to be a lot of Opportunities for them to clean the back of the doors which were very nasty looking so the food she rated well, but the cleanliness between the two doors heading to the bathroom were questionable. Our waiter messed up, but it's OK. We had six party members which is maybe a little excessive for them but they did not write down our order they tried to memorize it, but we understand it's completely okay and he was very kind and patient with us. My dad's meal was a chicken that was very fried, but it might've added to the taste, but unfortunately it was based on top of a bunch of french fries so it's a very fried dish. There wasn't enough schnitzel they need a little schnitzel for the whistle diesel, but it was okay. Overall, a nice meal and a nice day out here in Edinburgh I recommend you go here to check out the historic scene of the restaurant which I'm not gonna go over the history lesson but you'll see it for yourself. Go Google it a nice time at the last drop.

Nice little Pub in the Grassmart area. The service was quick and checked on us several times. The food was good quality pub food but nothing outstanding. They have a virety of soft drinks, a good selection of beers, ales and of course whiskies. They have maybe 25 tables which were full by 19:00. Worth visiting.

My friend and I came here for a quick dinner and whisky. Edinburgh can be tricky to find a spot on the weekend to have dinner without a reservation, but we were able to get a seat here on a Saturday without a reservation. Our server was really chill and gave great recommendations on different whiskys. This place has a classic pub feel and is a great place to getaway from the busy streets of Edinburgh. They have a small menu, but what they have is excellent. I ordered the sampler size of the haggis, neeps, and tatties with the whisky sauce. It was delicious! Also it was a perfect portion. I could not have imagined getting a full size of a the haggis, neeps, and tatties. Our service was friendly and quick, and the food was great. It is definitely a must stop if your in Edinburgh and want to try some haggis!

I think I remember this one. Don't judge me! I'm in Edinburgh for a pub crawl. I know staying in the USA is cheaper, but Edinburgh is the true heart of the UK. People are just nice here and welcoming.

We stayed 2 nights in Edinburgh under the Castle in Grassmarket. Bad timing because of the garbage (bin) strike and rain. They had the Fringe Festival winding up. We still strolled along and ended in The Last Drop, it was packed. We ventured to the back side door and found an empty table with high chairs. Took it. We asked the waitress for local Scottish food, all the dishes were mushy but different from our American finger food. Got local beers...Innis & Dunn, at first I though she said Innocent Gun, whatever. Then afterwards, my wife went for the local whiskeys, it was fun and different. I'm impressed that everyone drinks in Scotland, including the ladies The Scots are so friendly.

Looking out the front window, this pub sat in front of where the gallows were. Hence the name.

Such a fun pub, great service and even better food! I highly recommend it while in Edinburgh.

You would think "last drop" would pertain to alcohol but nope. This use to be a controversial area where public hangings took place. You would never guess from the beautiful wooden bar and cozy nooks surrounded by dim lighting. Other then the nooses displayed in one area by a booth. But hey "when in Rome." I decided to go ahead and embrace the morbidity and ended up sitting out on the beautiful patio. I enjoyed watching the interesting people and dragon designed cars pass by as I enjoyed some great local whiskey with ginger ale and a Sausage Mash plate. The bartender was gorgeous, friendly and very fast. Everything about this place is surreal..from the history of public executions, to the Harry Potter museum down the street, to Edinburough castle, where you can catch guys on bagpipes to gentlemen dressed in braveheart gear giving you the history and legends of this beautiful town.

Tried my very first Haggis (basically sheep pudding) here! I was really surprised by how much I ended up liking it, it's really not for everyone. I think you forget what it actually is once you taste it. It's salty, has a meat loaf consistency, tastes mostly like meat, and comes with a side of mashed potatoes and squash (loved the mashed potatoes). I got the entree version in case I didn't end up liking it so I also ordered a small mac and cheese. So delicious. The cheese was all gooey and melted. I left with a full, very satisfied stomach. This place is a little bit touristic but still worth trying out. It's located in the square that used to showcase hangings, hence the name (the square is called Grassmarket and it still has the shadow of the gibbet, worth a look as well!).

    Charred Aubergine and Harrissa Burger

I'd forgotten about this place earlier when I was writing reviews for "our two worst dining experiences in two weeks of travel." This would make three. Three terrible food stops over the course of two weeks. I guess it's to be expected, but I would have preferred for them all to be winners. First off, there was a stench in the air when we walked in. Not like a bar smell - which I'd expect and actually welcome. The odor I noticed on walking in smelled a whole lot like sour milk. It was not appetizing, and I started to head back to the door to find another spot for our last dinner in Edinburgh, but I could tell by the look on my husband's face that he was two seconds from mutiny, so I stopped in my tracks. Secondly, the service here is abhorrent. We were ignored by the young waiter guy (but didn't take it personally, as I saw him ignoring everybody else in equal measure). We had to approach him to ask if we could seat ourselves, to which he gave a hurried, "yeah, sure" and scurried off to do who knows what. Third, the food is only being referred to as such because I'm feeling generous. We placed our order at the bar (as was required), and then sat back down at our tiny table to wait. Let me take a minute to chat real quick about the decor. "The Last Drop". One might think that refers to draining a pint of ale, or licking the insides of a whisky glass. But no - in this case, it refers to the moment the floor of the scaffold gives out and the unfortunate soul above starts the long process of being strangled to death. Or, their neck breaks. Or, sometimes - horribly - the rope and/or scaffold itself breaks, causing an uproar and a second attempt at killing a person. Yeah - it's their schtick and I'm sure it's amusing if you're schnockered off your arse and easily amused. Stone cold sober and already annoyed by points 1 and 2 above, neither of us were particularly charmed by the many pictures and stories and references to the gallows surrounding our little table. But, that's on us. We should've stopped to read the placard near the front door before going inside. Anyway, the food. I ordered the Charred Aubergine and Harrissa Burger and my husband ordered the club. The same not-so-friendly waiter swung by long enough to drop our plates on the table before once again scurrying off to parts unknown. My sandwich (which really shouldn't have been called a "burger", since it was vegetarian) was cold through and through. It was also very dry. It was supposed to come with some sort of salsa and cheese, but the salsa was conspicuously absent. It made for an unedible sandwich. The fries were just as cold as the rest of the meal, making me wonder if it'd been sitting out on a counter for hours before being plopped on our table. My husband was able to choke down his meal, at least, but I think it was sheer starvation that made that possible. In the end, I couldn't flee that place fast enough.

Chicken and Bacon Club Sandwich; excellent.
