4/6/23. Starting at 3 stars. 4:25pm and walking the area. This place has a good menu and prices look good. Some local food. Can't wait to try it. More to come. Good service so far. Check the photos. 21 steps to take down for the restroom down a spiral staircase. Food was excellent. Will add more later. Wish there were half stars. 4 1/2 stars overall. Service was 2 stars. The food was 2 stars. Then a half star for the Ale. Took off a half star because it's a trek to use the restroom. Not handicap friendly for the restroom if you go here. Food was excellent though. Order the appetizer as well and it was very good the Haggi Fritters. A classic staple here. Try it. You get 2 small ones.

Small bar that sits above Victoria Street. Enjoy Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes and sausages. Good ciders and beer too.

Our experience for lunch at Castle Arms was good. Fresh, flavorful, and piping hot fish and chips, with pretty quick service in a convenient location. Came here during first full day in Edinburgh, and we were not able to get a table at another place, so we wandered into Castle Arms. We got a table within a few minutes and had ordered. After sitting down I looked up Yelp reviews which seemed mixed. However, when we got our food I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the fish and chips. Again, very fresh and hot, with good flavor. Friendly service. A bustling place. For us a good stop for lunch.

This is it but my parking is affecting my picture picture. Pictures. Look at plate and peas for peters sake.

OLY OLY OXEN FREE. OY FROM the Scotland Guard. I haven't left the colonies about 2 years. My last trip we visited our lawn and pool boy down in San Diego because he got deported. And came back. Anyways. He told me to come visit Scotland and to try this place because they have the fish and chips (FRIEND FRIES NOT POTATOEY) if you travel from the colonies chips are French fries are from Idaho potatoes. It measures about 7 inches (maybe 70mm In the metric) I don't know. About 4 inches wide and it was a girthy like a burrito. What the had in quantity they also had in quantity of size. I don't know the Mr. chef name but it was honestly the size of a burrito. Raymond (my stupid husband who I can't get out out of the stupid pub) loves this place. The dipping sauce is also more sweet than tartar sauce. Once I was loaded up on the fish I called and UBER. The Uber was very accommodating and knew EXACTLY where this restraint was. I think this place has a reputation of good food. My stupid grandson chris ordered the bangers and mash and passed me a slice. On the return stroke he dropped the wiener on the floor. Completely wasting a GREAY SAVORY BANGER. Wish I had it in me mouth now Ok so it's close to the castle and the Uber cost is 6lbs to castle. Ezekiel 23:19-21 Ok bye bye

Holy Yorkshire pudding, batman!

After a fun day out in Edinburgh, my friend and I decided it was time to get our grub on. Both being pretty indecisive people (or up for anything, rather), we walked passed this pub and decided a pub lunch was where it's at. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the bar staff who were very friendly and welcoming. It was a nice touch as you never really know what to expect walking in to a rather full pub around lunch time. The owner motioned for us to follow her and we were seated up in the table area with a nice view of the whole pub. (bagpiper in a kilt at the bar included in view) The menu had so many delicious sounding meals to choose from, but we both went with the yorkshire puddings with sausages and mash. We had the option of getting pork or beef sausages and we both went with one of each. As you can see by the picture, the portion size was HUGE. Absolutely the biggest yorkshire pudding I've ever seen. Very very tasty meal, I didn't want it to end. I literally savored every bite until it was gone. The decor is that of a worldly vibe. Loads of postcards on the walls from various travelers who have visited. (Which reminds me, I want to send them a postcard myself). The owner came over and told us she loves seeing where all her customers are from which is why she started putting the post cards on the wall. It's a nice touch, I really enjoyed her happiness over all the post cards. The toilets are downstairs and easy to get to. There's a lot more seating downstairs and loads of booze on offer for the thirsty. A definite favourite and I will be back!

Orders: beef burg - French fries - onion rings - soft drink(lemon) Fee: £ 9.09 Waiting time: 7mins Taste: actually, I am looking for OINK for dinner. But, I found castle arms. I think the dish is so-so except the onion ring. Because, the beef tastes like freezing long in the fridge. I suggest that the chef should totally clean your fridge. However, this set meal will satisfy starving people with its enough food. The onion ring tastes better when it cools down. Atmosphere: the decoration mixed with ancient ways and rock. the coolest design is its black ceilings which also my favourite. although the music is not my type, it can show some characteristics about boss. If you hanging out with friends, I think this place is good for chatting especially sitting next to Windows.

Yorkshire Pudding. REMARKABLE!

Seemed a bit touristy - if that's what you're into. The waiter was VERY friendly and knowledgable about Scotland. He was pretty forgetful when we wanted refills of beer and to pay the tab because he was chatting it up with some sassy females. Overall great experience. I'm glad I reviewed this the day after I ate there - lets just say it's didn't end well for a few people in my family... Haha however; it was DELICIOUS going in!

Right next to the castle. Cask ales to quench your thirst after a long tour through the Edinburgh Castle. Friendly bar wench. Bathrooms are all the way downstairs, where you will discover a door...to a sick terrace...where you can drink some more cask ales and people-watch. Aye.

As for the haggis: I liked it a lot, although the sauce/mayonnaise was a bit too much, for my taste.

We tried on our first week in Edinburgh and failed, but were able to make reservations 3 weeks out for our last night in Scotland, and we are glad we did. Pork cracklins were a bit hard and crunchy, but everything else was perfect. We had fresh bread and langostinis for starters, along with a smokey whiskey cocktail, the Smoked Indiscretion! For mains we enjoyed the poached Cod, and the Pork with Barley. Service was very good, and wine selection was extensive. Atmosphere was loud with music and locals' chatter in the bar below, but dark tables and heavy wood panels made it a perfect place for a couple celebrating 3 weeks of travel. Highly recommend a visit to the Devil's Advocate, if you can book a table in advance.

But they call these lessons, "character building," apparently. No matter, the Devil's Advocate is worth the search. Located in an old Victorian pump house halfway up (or down) Advocate's Close, the Devil's Advocate is known for a killer whisky shelf of more than 300 different bottles from various distilleries across the Highlands, Lowlands, Speyside, Campbelltown, the Islands, and Islay. I finally sipped on a 15-year Tamdu that has convinced me to keep a bottle at home. Then there's the Clydeside 2024 Limited Edition Cask Strength that was wicked impressive. The bartenders are class at making and serving seasonal and regular cocktails that have their spin and character. My wife enjoyed gin-based cocktails such as the Clean Slate (with St-Germain, citrus, and sugar), Rose Garden (with Yellow Chartreuse, Cocchi Rosa, apple, lemon, and mint), and Bee's Knees (honey and lemon). I went full speed ahead with the scotch cocktails, which are essentially classics with a scotch-substituted twist. The Double Shot is an Espresso Martini with Dalmore 12 in addition to Kahlua, espresso, and demerara -- quite smooth without being too sweet. The Scotzia is a Negroni with Fettercairn 12, while the Boxcar is a Sidecar only with Aberfeldy 12. We enjoyed the bar for a few hours, watching the bartenders make magic while sipping on cocktails, while listening to 80s pop tunes. A great evening indeed.

Today when the Red route took us to old town and I saw The White Hart Inn I said to Jan let's do an early dinner there and she agreed. We continued the route and stayed on back to the stop in old town. We love Alfresco dining but it was too cold and windy today. We went inside and the restrauant was packed. It's open seating. No hostess, no sign in. We were lucky and just happened to be standing next to a table that opened. We had been there about 5 minutes. The restaurant/ pub is rich in history, established in 1516. It's small with limited bar seating and prehaps 8 to 10 tables. It is noisy from conversation, tosting and music, but we didn't have a hard time communicating. It has a great vibe. It's a fun venue and popular with the locals. The menu is not large and has several Scottish offerings. To start, Jan was cold and wanted an Irish coffee. I ordered an Innis and Gunn larger. Innis & Gunn is an acclaimed Scottish brewery founded in 2003 in Edinburgh. It had a slightly citrus flavor. Jan ordered muscles and I ordered the steak and ale pie, served with a charred Hispi cabbage wedge, buttered mash and Merlot beef dripping gravy. It was very tasty, very robust flavor. I loved the cabbage; great flavor. I had to look up hispi cabbage and it is a variety of green cabbage. The muscles were good and the broth very nice. We had a lovely time and a good meal. I mean who doesn't love a good pub? You get great drinks and great food at an affordable price. As I write it makes me think of think of when Zidane reunites with Freya in FF9. Sometimes we don't wanna eat at fancy Michelin restaurant that has small plates but charges a premium. Sometimes we just wanna cut all the BS and just get a nice hearty meal. And thats what we got. When we sat down we found out that they were doing a Trivia night. Normally I would have told my girl to pick another spot to eat but for some reason I was cool with it. There was even a table nearby with kids(yuck). And you know what? It was fine. That's because we had been sipping on some amazing cocktails. This was the first time I had ever tried it and after trying it at multiple places Scotland, Queens Arms I feel has done it the best. I love the complexity of the flavors of the meat with the creamy and pepper flavors of the peppercorn sauce. If you've never had Haggis, you definitely have to try it here. The best part is that it comes with mashed potatoes too! Shoutouts to the Fish and Chips if you are also into that. One of my friends ordered that and I definitely had to go back in for multiple bites. Finally the roast. The Sunday Roast should just be an automatic order if you happen to come here on a Sunday. You get so much food and it's all so damn tasty. They'll cook a roast to whatever doneness your heart desires. We went with Medium Rare and it came out perfectly. If you didn't have enough flavors with all the extra sides it comes with, they also give you gravy to pour on anything you want. Thanksgiving basically came early this night. But as I looked around and admired all the bookshelf's and all the families have a nice dinner with their loved ones, I just thought about how happy I was. I was finally here! This was the start of my trip. Queens Arms has set a high ceiling on great experiences in Scotland. We even went back there a couple of days ago just because we knew we would be able to end the night on a good drink. But in the end I think if you are Edinburgh, you have to come to this place.
