The bar has a great older vibe. The food is delicious! Toilets are up a flight of stairs and small.

The bar is a great place to have a pint. I'd strongly recommend you get a pint of the Bobby's special cast ale it's delicious.

Traditional local dishes (or burgers if you like) and fabulous beer selection. Located just outside of the National Museum so after your visit to see Dolly and learning some Scottish history you can cross the street to enjoy a nice meal and drink. Service is fantastic and the environment is cozy yet spacious enough. And luckily for me & you, should you visit, a statue of Bobby is out front and you can rub his nose for good luck! read more

Great look and feel to the place. Really gives you the Scotland Vibes. Borders on touristy but pulls it off. It was packed when we went. They did manage to find a table for 4, though. It was tucked in but manageable. The waiter had a hard time with our drink order. I wanted the cask ale, and it took a while to figure it out. It was on the menu! The first thing supposedly in the cask was out, so I just told them to bring me whatever was in there! And it was damn good. No real idea of what it was, though. I ordered the vegetarian plate. And it was tasty as well. The rest in my party didn't fare as well. The plates were odd. We had a local with us, and he did attest to the meals not looking and tasting like they should. Not bad, but also not what it should have been. All in all, a good place to spend an hour and recharge. But think twice because they can do better, and so can you. read more

Excellent food and lovely staff. I had the Cullen skink to start which was so tasty and served with lovely bread. For my main I chose sausage and mash, again piping hot with a lovely presentation. While this is a pub and was busy, it wasn't overly noisy and had a lovely quaint pub ambiance. I highly recommend stopping in for a hearty warming meal. I didn't feel the price was bad for all the food I ordered in the middle of the tourist district. read more

**March 2024: Weekday Early Afternoon Visit** I figured since I was in Edinburgh I should visit at least one pub - so why not visit an iconic one?! Named after Edinburgh's most loyal pup, this bar is located just footsteps away from the dog's statute. I visited during an off peak hours at 2:30pm in the afternoon so I was able to find a seat pretty easily, though there was still quite a few patrons enjoying themselves. I decided to order one of their famous savory pies and was recommended the Slow Cooked Beef Rib, Shin and Pulled Brisket Pie (€20). From photos online it looked to be a palm sized pie, but when it came out it was basically the size of my head. It was huge! I thoroughly enjoyed it. The crust was flaky, and the meat inside was super flavorful and tender. I also enjoyed the mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. It was a super filling meal and I would absolutely order this again! read more

Come for the Bobby memorial, stay for the pies. After a chilly day in Edinburgh is was great to warm up inside with a comforting hearty pie. We got seated immediately and a server came back to take our food and drink orders. The food was quick to arrive. I recommend the scotch egg which is a bar menu item. Coming to Greyfriar's Bobby is a must when visiting Edinburgh. Just the story of the little dog alone is so cute. I didn't know what to expect, so I had no expectations. I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't as full as you would expect for a well known tourist destination place. We were seated right away. We ordered local dishes and my husband ordered salmon. My stew was amazing. I actually enjoyed Scottish food quite a bit. I love hardy comfort food. Prices were also reasonable and service was good. We did get overcharged, but they took care of it. I loved it. I ordered their house cask beer. They were cleaning the line and it was unavailable, so they recommended another. Which was not very good. I then ordered a pale ale on the menu. They were out of it. With dessert, I ordered a coffee. Their machine is broken, and they have no hot drinks. read more

After arriving in Edinburgh after a 13 hour plane ride, and very hungry, we headed straight to Greyfriar's Bobby Bar! We arrived right before the dinner rush, so were seated right in the huge bay window looking out onto the street, a great place to watch all the tourists touch the nose on Bobby's statue outside the window. We ordered pies-chicken and mushroom, and steak, with a starter of the Cullen Skink soup. The pies were hot, and flaky-delicious with a pint of cider. The Cullen Skink was disappointing-no flavor, like hot water (I've had it before other places so know what it should taste like). All in all, we enjoyed it. This is a great place to stop in for some mulled wine or a pint on a cold night. It is conveniently located next to Greyfriar's Cemetery and the tourist attraction of Greyfriar's Bobby. A lovely pub situated directly in front of the Greyfriar's Bobby statue! We sat outside because the day was so pretty. Drinks had to be ordered inside and food wasn't permitted on the sidewalk, sadly! I had a Rekorderling Mixed Berry cider, which was served in a glass over ice- so light and refreshing. Our first meal here in Scotland! Very cozy and comfy pub next to the sweet statue of its namesake (the dog that guarded its owner's grave for many years). Cheerfully decorated for Christmas as well! Staff were very attentive and friendly! The waiter made an excellent beer recommendation (Innis & Gunn). We ordered the fish platter for sharing and also the Cullen Skink bc we were told it is a traditional Scottish dish that is a must try! The Cullen Skink was decent.... A light, creamy, flavorful broth with flaky smoked white fish and a side of hardy bread...delicious! The fish platter had too much breaded/fried items on it for my liking but the flavors overall were ok. Price was average, about what we expected. Even though the menu mentions that they may add a 10% "service charge" at their discretion, we did not see it on our bill Overall decent place for a cozy meal! read more

We ate a mediocre dinner and then moved to the bar area for the music. After seating, we were told that we had to move because we were at a table for 4. We were moved to a worse table. Requested dessert, "there's not any, the kitchen is closed." Mind you, the band was just starting. Within 5 minutes another twosome came in and sat at our original table AND they ordered and received DESSERT AND drinks. This place clearly hates Americans. Rude staff, particularly the blond girl. Another Nicholson owned pub/restaurant in Edinburgh. Menu is pretty much the same as Deacon Brodies. Since I had the Stovies and enjoyed it so much there, I ordered it here. While the broth was tasty and rich, it lacked something. Unfortunately, the beef bits in this serving were fatty and gristly. The mulled wine was served very hot so be cautious. Enjoyed an order of fries and they were delicious. Overall, for the atmosphere and value of the meal, it is a decent place to enjoy some local favorites in a historic area. Enjoy! read more
