I've eaten a lot of macaroons and while they can be good, finding good ones can be a difficult task. My friend and I tried this place since we heard they made decent macaroons so of course, I had to try it. The place is super cute and tries to bring in that Parisian cuteness with their decor. They bake their macaroons in the back and offer many different fillings. For example you can get early grey, chocolate and raspberry, salted caramel, lavender, chocolate, etc... Their macaroons are vibrantly colourful as well based on the filling. You can order 3, 5, or 8 pieces and mix and match. My friend and I of course order 8 along with a flat white and a white chocolate with lemongrass. The white chocolate with lemongrass was ok. It actually tastes like chai tea. As for the macaroons, I wasn't really impressed. The macaroon itself had inconsistent texture. I normally look for a nice crunch when I bite into it then transition to a chewy not too gooey inside of the macaroon before tasting the filling. These macaroons didn't really have that very fine balance of crunch, chewy, and flavours of the filling. Also, some of the fillings work while others... Not so much. The lavender macaroon tasted like soap, the sea salted Carmel just tasted of caramel and the early grey didn't really taste like it. The chocolate raspberry was pretty good though as well as the chocolate. Overall, the macaroons at this place was ok... Nothing to rave about. It's a cute place have a cuppa in an afternoon, so for that I'd come back if I'm in the area.

Absolutely love the color of these macarons.

Best. Macarons. Ever. Every time I visit a new city, the first thing I look for are French cafés with macarons. This new place popped up at the top of my Edinburgh search, and I'm so glad!! It is obvious that a lot of love (and fresh ingredients) go into their wonderful macarons. They taste supremely fresh and luscious. I was particularly excited with the interesting flavors presented in the Hendricks Gin and Innis & Gunn Beer macarons. Their more traditional flavors (lavender, salted caramel, chocolate, strawberry chocolate) were also great. However, I was rendered near speechless by their positively exquisite Earl Grey macarons. They taste just as the name suggests with the perfect level of sweetness you'd expect from a macaron. You can even see the tiny specs of tea in the filling. O.M.G. Can you have a religious experience with a macaron? Seriously, try them. They also have make a tasty espresso and have cute outside seating with a nice view of the castle. The perfect accoutrement to those macarons. Finally, the staff here are friendly and welcoming! Completes the experience!

This is where I always end up with my Girl Gang, because if you're looking for the best macarons in town, The only place to go is Mademoiselle Macaron! This is an adorable little cafe just off Lothian Road with a great atmosphere, super friendly staff and it even has an Eiffel Tower that reaches the celling. What's not to love about that?! With an incredible selection of flavours, my favourites include her Earl Grey, Salted Caramel, Irn Bru (!!), Hendriks Gin (!!), rose and pistachio macarons. Lemmie tell you, there is no way in hell you're gonna leave this joint without more than one favourite flavour too. It's just too hard! There's also a great selection of pastries (both savoury and sweet) to choose from. The owner was trained in France, so you can rest assured that nothing you order in here is going to be second rate. I love that they have coffee & macaron offers available to go, and that you can get a great deal on bulk buying. For my 30th I had a confetti party and bought a couple of boxes of these to display in big jars on the table... It looked absurdly good for the photos but all were devoured in a snap! She also runs macaron making workshop, so if you're looking for a gift that keeps on giving, you know what to do... Think of all the macarons you'll get in gratitude ;)

First time in Edinburgh and there was a little farmers market out on grass market street where this macaron booth had me drawn to all the colorful macarons! Macarons are my weakness so I had to get some! Very cheap compared to most macarons 4 for 4 pounds ! And they were so delicious! I'm so happy with the unique flavors they had like earl grey and mint chocolate. So disappointed this place is only in Edinburgh and they need to expand!

I was so excited to hear that Mademoiselle Macaron (known well from the markets around Edinburgh) had finally opened her new cafe that she had been working on for months. Even from outside the shop front, you could tell that this was an intriguing and decadent place. We made our way inside, awed by the gorgeous little touches that make Mademoiselle Macaron any lady's new favourite place in town to feel pampered. There were dresses (made by the dressmaker in residence who will measure and fit you for your dress), ruffles, striped boxes, a macaron tower and... What's that? The Eiffel Tower table and chaise lounges! Like in the markets, there was an excellent lineup of macarons including chocolate, vanilla, caramel, pistachio, raspberry, Hendricks' gin, and even Innis & Gunn flavoured macarons! Beyond the macarons, the cafe also boasts pastries by their pastry chef, eclairs, and other goodies such as the mouthwatering white chocolate mouse tart. Of course they also had a fantastic selection of drinks - Steam Punk coffee, lovely teas, and also some tantalizing white hot chocolate that looked fabulous! Everything was delicious and I enjoyed each of my four different little macarons, indulging in them and also enjoying just taking in the lovely ambiance of this fabulous new cafe!

Little cafe on the cobbled streets of Edinburgh just near the Castle serving crepes, coffee & of course macarons! Loads of different flavours, my favourite being rose & prosecco & lavender but being in Scotland we had to try the Irn Bru one which didn't disappoint! Highly recommend

The location, tucked away on a side street away from the hustle and bustle of Prince's Street, means that you won't be fighting with people for a table, as although it can get busy around lunch, you likely wouldn't find it unless you knew what you were looking for. The staff is extremely helpful and nice and helped make the whole experiance very pleasant. I will note that the prices are a bit high, although that's expected when all vegan ingredients are used. Their signature brunch item, pink-hued waffles, make for a lightly crispy meal with a delicate spongy interior, and comes with a generous helping of fruit on the side. The espresso is good, with a impressive custom coffee machine and a wide selection of milk alternatives - although the chai latte was a bit weak in spice and flavor and could've been more thoroughly mixed. Another interesting item they do is an all-vegan version of the Scottish Breakfast. As that is traditionally an almost all meat meal, this a quite impressive feat, although I've never been a huge fan of imitation meats. If you're looking for a healthful brunch/lunch meal, especially if you are vegan or vegetarian, I recommend Naked Bakery! They also produce a selection of cakes and pastries which customers were coming in for throughout our meal.

There are so many teas that I've bought to make for myself at home and then totally screwed them up, usually by steeping them too long. The staff at Pekoe have been amazing at talking me through each tea. They will explain where the teas come from, describing the characteristics, and then brewing it properly. Some of the teas can have multiple infusions and the staff will happily bring over some freshly boiled water for the next round. Pekoe is a bit of an oasis on a street where it's hard to know what you're going to get. The shops and cafes around Pekoe are improving, but it's still a mixed bag. So I always feel a breath of fresh air when I arrive to Pekoe. This location has a different feel to the Stockbridge shop. I prefer this one slightly more. Oh... Indoors has an elegant rustic feel, with lots of lovely wood and metal touches. Every single member of the staff we interacted with was SO nice and friendly, and they went above and beyond to accommodate our large group! Although our group only gave us a few menu options to choose from, my husband and I also ordered cocktails and their haggis scotch eggs with brown sauce. Their scotch eggs has haggis around them, and the brown sauce wasn't a gravy sauce like I was expecting, but a salty sweet surprise with an eel sauce consistency. These were my favorite! Our starter was the Sweet Potato, Chilli, and Coconut soup. I wasn't a big fan of this. I got no taste of sweet potatoes or coconut, the chilli overwhelmed everything. My husband and I ordered the King Prawn chilli Linguine with a ginger pesto. What we received was a major disappointment- these were by no stretch or the imagination king prawns. They were medium sized at best. Again, the linguine was overwhelmed by the chilli- so much my eyes watered and my nose ran before I gave up. Other diners voiced the same complaints. Dessert was great! Sticky toffee pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream- so delicious! I had a cocktail called Kissing in the rain, a flip containing gin, rhubarb, raspberry, and lemon with an egg white, shaken to perfection. It was delightful- I only with there was more of it! I also had the house white which was tasty, and my husband enjoyed his house ale. All in all, not bad, just lay off the chilli next time!

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.

I bought a coffee and a box of macarons to take to the meeting. The coffee curing my hangover and the macarons made my colleagues even happier than I expected. They were delcious, sweet, cruncy, smooth and light. Everything a good macaron should be. So lets call that a 5 star experience. The sitting in occasion was slightly less perfect. I ordered a latte and a frangipane tart and I took a seat. There were a few other people in the cafe but it was far from busy. The staff were nice enough and my order arrived relatively quickly. Unfortunately my coffee was awful. It's not often that I abandon caffeine but this time I was forced to. The tart was ok - I'd order it again but it wouldn't go to the top of the list. So lets call that a 3 star experience. I guess that's why on balance it gets four stars. Realistically, that sounds about right. I hope the nasty coffee was a one off because I'm bound to be temped back in by the cakes soon enough.
