Iced Latte & Buttery Bap w Veggie Haggis + Tattie Scones
    Alexis K.

This place seems to be very popular and know it. At first glance, it's a cute, cozy, and humble cafe. Everyone there was very nice; service was good. When it came to ordering, I got an Iced Latte and a Buttery Bap. The menu is a bit difficult to decipher, as it was confusing how much or how little can be added to it and at what cost. The menu said I could only pick one filling, but when I asked I was informed that I could pick an unlimited amount. I'm glad I trusted my instinct and went with just two: Veggie Haggis and Tattie Scones. Both of these were truly delicious. However, there was an extra charge for the second filling. Prices for additions are listed at the bottom of the menu as if they were sides you could order separately. On the receipt, I also saw that I was charged 0.50 extra for ice. I don't understand why places charge extra to make an iced drink when overall you're actually getting less of the drink. Overall, everything tasted good and I'm glad I was able to try numerous Scottish classics.

Wow... this was one of the best breakfast spots on our 2-month trip! We were there in early September and had to wait only about 5-10 minutes for a table. The food was absolutely delicious! My porridge was so hearty and yummy, I wanted to lick the bowl. My spouse's eggs benedict dish was also fantastic, and you can tell they use very fresh, high quality ingredients. The way they serve the meals in little stainless steel lunch boxes is adorable. My chai tea latte with oat milk was fantastically spicy and not too sweet. The server was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and always nearby, so it was easy to ask for our check when we were ready. And the inside of the restaurant had a warm, cozy feel. I would gladly eat every breakfast here the next time we're in Edinburgh!

Wow! this tiny restaurant is a powerhouse! We arrived at 2:45, 15 minutes before the kitchen closed, and were informed at the door the kitchen would be closing soon. We were prepared to be turned away but the server encouraged us to remain. After a quick scan of the menu we ordered the Taste of Scotland and the soup of the day (potato leek). Both arrived quickly and we tucked in. Both meals were a delight! The Taste of Scotland was the Scottish version of a Cheese Board and it was everything I could have hoped for and the soup was fabulous! Because our meals were simple we were willing to depart quickly but our server said there was no rush and encouraged us to linger. He brought coffee, and we watched them close down the restaurant which was fun A fun tip - two if the servers had a delightful looking green drink they were sipping as they cleaned up. When I asked about it they said it was an iced matcha where they line the cup with the jam they use for the scones instead of using sweetener. It isn't a menu item, but if you ask they may be willing to make it for you! I'm going to ask the next time I visit!

This restaurant is not the best. We came here because there were longer lines at neighboring places. But when I asked for poached eggs with one of the orders instead of scrambled, I was met with a very short "we don't do substitutions." But when I asked for no mushrooms on my avocado toast, they were able to accommodate that. The avocado toast had no flavor and it was hard to finish. In fact I didn't eat more than half of it. Everyone else thought their food was fine, nothing spectacular.

We arrived to a short line. You don't have to put your name in, just wait in line and they will come ask you how many are in your party and get you seated. Even though there was a line, we only waited maybe 10-15 minutes. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered a latte and my husband ordered a hot chocolate, both were very good and beautiful to boot! My husband got the full Scottish breakfast which he very much enjoyed. I ordered the hash and it was delicious as well as a work of art! The hash is larger than it looks and I couldn't finish it all. It had a beautiful and perfectly done poached egg on top. The pickled red cabbage really gave the hash a nice crispness. The interior is country themed and it's a vibe as the kids say. Definitely a meal worth your time.

The place it's small but cozy and good ambience, be sure to make a reservation before go in, we were lucky to get in without it but you do your job. Love the food specially the "Eggs Royale" the trout was delicious. Servers were nice and welcoming. Tom is great cool guy

Seating is at a premium in here so it's smart to book ahead! Very nice atmosphere, though it gets a bit chilly from the door opening and closing. Very nice drinks here, I loved the option of a non-caffeine latte and turmeric seemed very unique. The hash was excellent -- nice cured fish, extremely well-cooked potatoes, and loved the horseradish cream sauce. Full Scottish was tasty, with the favorite being the haggis. I doubt you can go wrong with anything on the menu here. Everything we saw going to other tables looked delicious, too.

Edinburgh Larder is a cozy brunch spot quite close to the Royal Mile. Got there a few minutes after opening, and waited a bit for them to open the second building (they have 2 buildings next to each other that allows for higher capacity). Service was quick and the wait staff was kind and personable, striking up conversation. Ranked high on "service with a smile"! Ordered 2 Oatmilk Cappuccino's and an Eggs Florentine. Everything seemed to be cooked to order, but well worth the bit of a wait. Definitely recommend stopping by this spot while you visit Edinburgh!

First off, I've read several reviews on Yelp saying the food portions are small. All in my party found the portions to be quite adequate so no problem unless packing in a gut busting meal is your thing. The service was quite nice. Our server Ben and the manager Diego were both more than hospitable. The Porridge was divine as well as the eggs florentine. The Haggis side was superb as well. Such a great all around experience!

I think Edinburgh Larder has one of the best breakfasts in the world; and, I do mean that literally. If I lived in Edinburgh, I'd be here weekly. When I visit, I always come on my first and last day, and always for the same thing: the Vegan Breakfast with a side of housemade brown sauce and an iced Americano with oat milk. The Vegan Breakfast features roasted flat mushroom, blistered cherry tomatoes that burst when you bite into them, rich vegan black pudding, melt-in-your-mouth vegan haggis, wilted herbed spinach, homemade beans that are just the right amount of saucy, granary toast drizzled with olive oil, and a potato scone. It's so colorful, there are so many interesting textures, it's abundantly flavorful, and comes heaped on a plate that has barely enough room for each individual component. It's consistently delicious and filling, and absolutely impossible to recreate at home. I dream about this meal. (Important details to know: currently, reservations - which you really need to have - are £5. They hold your table for ten minutes before they release it to whomever is waiting in line at the door. Your reservation is good for one hour; the front and back of house work super seamlessly, so you'll have plenty of time. The breakfast menu is served all day. They operate on a cashless basis. They add a discretionary 12.5% service charge to all tables.)

    soup & toastie

This review is for the "newer" location on Morningside Road - I stumbled across it by accident. The menu is primarily breakfast-oriented, but has a small lunch section. I tucked into the carrot & cilantro soup accompanied by a toastie of multi-grain bread with St. Andrews cheddar, Katie Rogers crowdie, shredded carrots, green onions & dill - delicious!-) As I washed it down with an herbal tea, my server hooked me up with several other local recommendations for food, drinks and music. Great little cafe!

    Mark M.

I walked in a few minutes to 3:00 on a Friday and some bearded guy at the restaurant puts his hand up tells me to stop from entering and that they are closed, even though the place was full of people. All I wanted was a coffee and this guy never even gave me the chance to ask for it. So rude.

Full Scottish Breakfast w/ side of Hollandaise.
    Liz W.

Cool little spot to grab a bite to eat! Ordered the full Scottish breakfast and was not disappointed! The haggis and black pudding were excellent. I asked for a side of the hollandaise sauce *chef's kiss* Overall I enjoyed the food and the laid back vibe of the place. The kitchen is next door so the servers bring the food in covered tin containers. Affordable and quick breakfast with quality ingredients.

I came pretty close to the opening and was able to select my choice for seats. I picked a table near the window for natural lighting. They have a table of a lot of tasty treats and while I didn't get a chance to try them all, I can attest to the scone being very tasty! I ordered the Cream Tea (I think I ordered the Lemon and Elderflower) which comes with a freshly baked homemade scone (I chose a fruit one), and a cup of tea €6.80. I decided to upgrade to a pot of tea (€7.75) and added a bowl of porridge (€5.50) with jam as I usually prefer savory breakfasts. This was more than enough to eat for one, but I just enjoy trying different items - does anyone else have this problem? lol I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here as the ambiance, food and tea were homey and intimate.
