Coffees were great. Scones were delicious. The breakfast sandwich was open face and the avocado was prepackaged and was not very good. Sourdough was fresh and delicious though. Would definitely come back.

Opens at 7am and this was the only place open early near where we were staying. Cute little joint and friendly staff. Our server was attentive and had good music playing. 5/5 American Breakfast huge portion and we added a potato scone. Hefty portion of bacon, eggs, and really good sourdough toast. Potato scone is a must try. Not greasy and I could probably eat half a dozen. 4/5 Cheese and Beans was interesting as I've always waited to try this quick Scottish breakfast. Sourdough toast was nicely toasted and went well with the beans. The cheddar cheese was a bit too thick for my liking. I think maybe shredding it would make it melt and gooey. So it gets mixed in a bit with the beans. The beans were not too sweet but paired well with the sharpness of the cheese and sourness of the toast. Overall I definitely would come back and try other things on the menu. Pricing was affordable and not crazy overpriced for the area.

We recently stopped by here for a very late lunch. We were warmly greeted upon entering and, given the late hour, had our pick of tables. They have both indoor and outdoor seating but we chose to sit indoors due to the slight chill in the air. Our server was friendly and attentive. I love Cullen Skink (a hearty, creamy soup with smoked haddock) so was happy to see it on the menu. My husband and I ended up ordering a bowl each with an order of Hash Browns with spicy mayo to share. I also had a nice Flat White to go along with my meal. Our server was friendly and attentive, and I felt the prices were fair for this touristy part of town.

Excellent breakfast right on the Royal Mile, with a nice, warm interior with plenty of room, delicious food, great coffee and tea, and wonderfully friendly staff. The full breakfast stack is fantastic, each item cooked perfectly. The American breakfast and French toast were both great, as well. Good vegan and vegetarian options, kids menu.

Great variety and top notch service. We only had 45 minutes before a tour. We told our waitress and were in and out with no problem. Can get things ranging from a full Scottish breakfast with haggis, bacon, black pudding, beans, tomato, hash browns, mushrooms, and toast to basic waffles and french toast. Great location on the Royal Mile. Seats are both inside and outside.

Cute cafe and fantastic gluten free! We came on a Tuesday morning, and it was very quiet. Our server was attentive and checked in on us to make sure we always had enough coffee, and answer any of our questions. It is not obvious from the outside, but this place has a lot of gluten free options! Waffles, bread, etc. I tried the gluten free waffles and they were delicious! We were warned that there is a potential for cross contamination in the kitchen, but this is almost always a risk at restaurants. Great, cute little unassuming spot!

Judging by one of the other photos which show a small tea as £2.50 only a month ago, the 20% price hike is fairly recent.

Slotted in on Rose Street, at the back of the huge and imposing columned Dome buiding, this gorgeous little city-centre oasis is the perfect place to rest your shopping-weary feet and have a tasty lunch. It's only open from april to early september, and although it's tucked down a narrow street this place is a great little suntrap. You can get wraps, salads, soups, burgers, that sort of thing here - not a full á la carte lunch, but the portions are fairly generous so you'll only need one course. The service was ok, but our waiter didn't even bother to bring us our change back. We had been planning to leave it as a tip for him, but we thought it was a bit cheeky of him just to assume, especially when service is already included in the prices. For a salad and a soft drink you'll spend just over £10 a head, which makes it slightly pricier than a lot of other lunchtime cafés nearby, but this setting is just so gorgeous I'd happily pay the difference.

Again, that's alleged, but it's everywhere- Author J.K. Rowling had her first book published while she was writing in the back room overlooking Edinburgh Castle, making The Elephant House the "birthplace" of the series of Harry Potter novels. The Elephant House Cafe proudly calls itself the 'birthplace' of Harry Potter above the front door. This claim is slightly controversial, as the sign alludes to the birthplace of parts of the books, not necessarily the beginning. The Elephant House in Edinburgh, Scotland, is a pilgrimage site for any Potterhead. From the outside, and honestly from the inside as well, it seems like your average cafe. However, this cafe is one of the cafes that provided space for J.K. Rowling to create not only a book series, but an entire magical world. The

But, we were determined to get all those stamps (and the satisfaction of having accomplished something that was specific to Edinburgh), so this was the first of two coffee shops visited in the space of an hour. Crazy? Yes, indeed. I really liked the feel of this shop. It's open, clean and bright. It's about on par, size-wise, as some of the other shops we visited, but it wasn't as busy. There were two guys working the counter when we arrived, and they had several tables open, which we took advantage of. We ordered our drinks and sat down to wait. They came out quickly, and they were delicious. The guy who brought our coffee to the table was very friendly, checking to make sure that we were set, that we had everything we needed, and that we knew they had fresh-baked pastries at the counter. I was interested in the pastries but knew that we had one more coffee shop to visit before really starting our day, so I had to abstain. The coffee was delicious - well brewed and served piping hot. I could see making this place into a normal haunt, if we were in the area more often.
