    Smoked salmon eggs Benedict
    Christina R.

Nice, big, open, airy place to have some breakfast or brunch. We made a reservation because yikes this is a busy city but I don't think we needed it. We came in around 10am and while it wasn't full, there were a good amount of tables taken inside. Our drink order was taken right away but we had to wait some time to be able to place an order for food, as our server said that the kitchen was backed up. My chai latte was not very good, more milk and cinnamon than tea and the cappuccino was alright. Asking for one glass of water seemed to pain the server. We finally got to order some food. Our server was still very nervous and frantic but the meal came out quickly after ordering. Too quickly it felt... I got smoked salmon eggs Benedict and my mans got French toast with bacon. Both were ok, nothing to write home about. It's food was what I said. We could not flag down anyone to pay so we spent waaaayyyyy to much time sitting an waiting. We finally had to get pretty loud and were able to pay. If you have a lot of time on your hands and you aren't super hungry, this is the place to be.

We did not have a booking but the hostess said we can have a table for 1hr. The tables are very nicely placed with room between them. Somewhat cafeteria style but cozy. The hostess took our coffee orders right away on a Saturday morning it gets very crowded and the service can be slow but it was fine. The food was delicious. Full breakfast, stuffed role with haggis and granola and scones with clotted cream and jam. We enjoyed everything.

Scottish Smoked Salmon Benny with Spring Onion & Caper Salad

Loudons New Waverly has a light, open and welcoming atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. Loudons menu is broad, focusing on breakfast and lunch, with full references for each dish to food sensitivity and allergy information. There is a wide selection of vegan treats. The dishes we had were innovative, perfectly executed, with the plating special enough to warrant pictures. My Scottish Smoked Salmon Benny was scrumptious. One of our group ordered the "Veggie Burger - a Mushroom, Truffle & Quinoa Burger with Cheddar Cheese, Cos Lettuce, Gherkin, Pickled Red Onion, Burger Sauce, Toasted Brioche Bun, and Potato Wedges," a delicious offering. Across the board, Loudons is a super value.

I decided to stop here for breakfast based on a recommendation from a friend, and I ended up coming back before leaving Edinburgh! They take reservations but we had no problems getting a table without one. Our group tried avocado toast, fresh toast, and eggs benedict, and loved everything. The freshly squeezed orange juice was amazing! Not only was the food and drink delicious, but the staff was attentive. Highly recommend if you are looking for breakfast on the Royal Mile!

We stopped in on New Year's Day. Breakfast was ready quickly and some of the best pancakes I've ever had. Scones and English muffins also great. It's a perfect way to start off a day trudging around Edinburgh in the cold.

The food was absolutely delicious! My porridge was so hearty and yummy, I wanted to lick the bowl. My spouse's eggs benedict dish was also fantastic, and you can tell they use very fresh, high quality ingredients. The way they serve the meals in little stainless steel lunch boxes is adorable. My chai tea latte with oat milk was fantastically spicy and not too sweet. The server was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and always nearby, so it was easy to ask for our check when we were ready. And the inside of the restaurant had a warm, cozy feel. I would gladly eat every breakfast here the next time we're in Edinburgh!

When it came to ordering, I got an Iced Latte and a Buttery Bap. The menu is a bit difficult to decipher, as it was confusing how much or how little can be added to it and at what cost. The menu said I could only pick one filling, but when I asked I was informed that I could pick an unlimited amount. I'm glad I trusted my instinct and went with just two: Veggie Haggis and Tattie Scones. Both of these were truly delicious. However, there was an extra charge for the second filling. Prices for additions are listed at the bottom of the menu as if they were sides you could order separately. On the receipt, I also saw that I was charged 0.50 extra for ice. I don't understand why places charge extra to make an iced drink when overall you're actually getting less of the drink. Overall, everything tasted good and I'm glad I was able to try numerous Scottish classics.

We clearly didn't plan things out well, as we had to scramble to hit stops 6 and 7 within an hour of closing, on our last full day in Edinburgh. But, in our defense, coffee shops close up super early in Edinburgh! We hustled our way from the Mile towards Cairngorm, side-stepping tourists and hurrying across intersections. On a normal day, it would've been a nice jaunt through town, but on this day, it was a hectic seemingly-longer-than-it-should-have-been-half-sprint to the front door. I did love the feel of this shop, from the steps leading down to the cozy interior and the bags of spent coffee bean lining the ceiling. The girl working that day was very nice and welcoming. We placed our order and settled into a small table near the back of the building. I kept an eye on the barista (hubby's back was to the counter) so that I could pop up to grab our drinks when they were ready, but she brought them to us, instead. She saw our Disloyal 7 cards out on the table, and said, "Be sure to bring that by before you leave so that I can stamp them!" The lattes were good, with a nice, rich and creamy flavor. I think I could've ended our night here, wrapped up in the warmth of a good latte and a comfortable chair, but my husband pointed out that we had time to get to the final stop on our list, if we hurried. So, we went up to the counter and had the barista stamp their slice, and then hurried once more into the cold Edinburgh dusk.
