    Salami on a baguette

What a gem! Little cozy spot... Reasonable prices, flavorful entrees and fare with great service. Everything was so fresh! Come early, they tend to run out of items, they are that good! We came hungry and left satisfied. -Cappuccinos tasty -sandwiches filling. I ordered the salami, yum! It didn't taste salty, bonus! My husband ordered the chicken sandwich, he was satisfied. Both were great choices. The bread was so fresh! They do have a meal deal: sandwich, chips and drink. -spanakopita!!! Omg! It was honesty the best I ever had! Large portions though... oh well, more for me! If we are ever back in the area, we would definitely return.

This place is so yummy!!! It's a very small, cost spot with around 10 tables... we came for a late breakfast around 12pm so it wasn't that full we only had to wait around 10 mins to sit. We ordered egg Benedict's and the waffle with strawberries and bacon. Both were spectacular!! The egg Benedicts were hot, and juicy. The yolk was runny and the bacon was so crispy! It was amazing! The sauce on top was so perfect, it had some pepper on top that really hit the spot. The waffles were crispy, which I love, there was a generous amount of bacon and strawberries. All around amazing breakfast we didn't leave one thing on our plate. The prices are fair and the service was perfect. I loved the cute cosy spot!! Must try!!

This is one of our favourite brunch spots in Edinburgh. Papii is located less than a 5 minute walk from Princes Street. It's fairly small inside so you'll need to head there early or be ready to wait (it's worth it!). They have a good menu (displayed artistically on the wall), with both breakfast and lunch items but you need to get the waffles! They are THE best! Price wise, you're talking £7/£8 pp which is really good value for money. Bacon & Maple Syrup OR Strawberries & Maple Syrup. Perfection. Traveling from the states and was looking for a breakfast spot close to our hotel. This one caught my eye walking by so I decided to stop in. Small and cozy inside with few tables but it was not crowded around 09:00. Staff was friendly and helpful making me feel comfortable and welcomed. I ordered the eggs royal and an Cafe Americano. The quality and flavor of everything was excellent. I will definitely recommend stopping by for a quick delicious meal.

Oh good. Another great eggs benny place. My waistline really needed that one... Edinburgh, would you quit it with the amazing brunch options? No. Don't. Please don't. Yet another wonderful Elite suggested find, this time courtesy of the lovely Caz H. This tiny little place packs a surprising punch. It's all of six tables - which you will acutely feel on the weekend while you table scavenge with the ten other people looking to feed themselves. Expect to be squeezed in, table poached or on the rare occasion, exiled to the outside seats if you venture here on a weekend. Why? Because you've made an excellent decision - they serve up a delightful breakfast. All. Freaking. Day. Because i'm addicted, I had to go with a benny option, though the waffles here look pretty killer as well. Opted for a Eggs Royale (smoked salmon benny) and it was darn tasty. Alongside not one, but two coffees (you know it's good when this rare coffee consumer orders a second), it was a lovely little brunch for a decent price. I had been in here once previously for a smoothie. Honestly, they aren't my favourite but I come from the land of smack-you-in-the-face-green-health-smoothies, so it was just too sweet for my likely. That being said, in the city, they're second only to Hula in this category. If you are a far less picky guy/gal and like a sweet fruit drink - this is likely a good option. All in all, another lovely little find for my Sunday afternoons. Thanks Caz!

I am on a quest in Edinburgh to find the best scones around. The sheer size of the scones at Papii is exactly what drew me in. Overall, this was a decent scone. Decent price, came with a huge serving of clotted cream and jam. On a side note, highly recommend the iced tea for those rare Scottish summer days.

I love this place. It has a cozy feel, and the best smoothies I've had yet in Edinburgh. The sandwiches are delicious AND they have nutella croissants... Can't get much better than that. No wifi. Pretty quiet. Great and friendly staff.

Essentially the best breakfast I've ever had! Maple bacon piled high on crispy waffles, with a side of poached eggs. Perfect cup of Cappuccino too Thanks Scotland, I needed that!

Fresh cut strawberry and maple waffles, delicious!

We tried on our first week in Edinburgh and failed, but were able to make reservations 3 weeks out for our last night in Scotland, and we are glad we did. Pork cracklins were a bit hard and crunchy, but everything else was perfect. We had fresh bread and langostinis for starters, along with a smokey whiskey cocktail, the Smoked Indiscretion! For mains we enjoyed the poached Cod, and the Pork with Barley. Service was very good, and wine selection was extensive. Atmosphere was loud with music and locals' chatter in the bar below, but dark tables and heavy wood panels made it a perfect place for a couple celebrating 3 weeks of travel. Highly recommend a visit to the Devil's Advocate, if you can book a table in advance.

But they call these lessons, "character building," apparently. No matter, the Devil's Advocate is worth the search. Located in an old Victorian pump house halfway up (or down) Advocate's Close, the Devil's Advocate is known for a killer whisky shelf of more than 300 different bottles from various distilleries across the Highlands, Lowlands, Speyside, Campbelltown, the Islands, and Islay. I finally sipped on a 15-year Tamdu that has convinced me to keep a bottle at home. Then there's the Clydeside 2024 Limited Edition Cask Strength that was wicked impressive. The bartenders are class at making and serving seasonal and regular cocktails that have their spin and character. My wife enjoyed gin-based cocktails such as the Clean Slate (with St-Germain, citrus, and sugar), Rose Garden (with Yellow Chartreuse, Cocchi Rosa, apple, lemon, and mint), and Bee's Knees (honey and lemon). I went full speed ahead with the scotch cocktails, which are essentially classics with a scotch-substituted twist. The Double Shot is an Espresso Martini with Dalmore 12 in addition to Kahlua, espresso, and demerara -- quite smooth without being too sweet. The Scotzia is a Negroni with Fettercairn 12, while the Boxcar is a Sidecar only with Aberfeldy 12. We enjoyed the bar for a few hours, watching the bartenders make magic while sipping on cocktails, while listening to 80s pop tunes. A great evening indeed.

Good haggis, but overall underseasoned and underwhelming…read more My fiancé and I visited Howie's and had a mixed experience. We started with the haggis appetizer, which was genuinely delicious hearty, comforting, and reminded me of a Salisbury steak with gravy and potatoes. If you're going, I'd absolutely recommend starting there. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn't live up to that strong start. My fiancé ordered the ribeye with fries, and once again I have to say: Edinburgh really struggles with fries. These were bland, oily, and needed a serious dose of salt. The ribeye itself had no seasoning, which was disappointing. While the peppercorn sauce was good, a quality ribeye should be flavorful on its own without having to rely on sauce. I ordered the salmon with beets and potatoes. It was decent, but, like much of the food we've had in Edinburgh so far, it could have used more seasoning. The ingredients seem fresh, but the flavors just don't sing. For dessert, we shared the banoffee pie. It was light and not overly sweet which I appreciated but it was just okay. Not memorable. Service was another weak point. Our server wasn't rude, but we were largely forgotten because there was a large party seated behind us. At this price point, you expect attentive service. I understand Scotland doesn't operate on a tipping culture, but when restaurants are charging higher prices (and often more than comparable U.S. restaurants once converted from GBP), the quality and attentiveness should match. Overall, Howie's wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. Amazing haggis, decent dishes, mediocre seasoning, and slow service. For locals who prefer milder flavors, this might be a solid choice but for visitors used to more robust seasoning and higher service standards, it may fall short.
