Avacado Smash: avocado, sourdough bread, onions, sesame and bumpkin seeds, cherry tomatoes, balsamic vinaigrette

Wonderful service today. I'm really loving this place more and more. Can't get enough of the Avocado Mash. Also, had the scrambled eggs on toast with Chorizo and tomatoes. It was okay, but I think chorizo is maybe just not my thing. Plenty of other great items on the menu, so we'll continue to work our way through! Also, second time in a row they provided water for my dog, Buddy, without having to ask! Lovely! Massive improvements in service!

    Avocado smash - just delish!!

We love doing brunch and Ostara really did not disappoint. Ostara is a new edition to Leith and if they keep up the quality of food and innovative menu they are on course to be one of the best brunch spots in Edinburgh. The menu is healthy, creative and reminds me of brunch menus that you only see in the USA and Australia. I had mixed chilli bean on toast with poached eggs (cooked to perfection) and a side of puddledub sausages. The other half had Avocado smash on homemade bread with feta, chilli and tomatoes. Finally, Ostara benefits from space and you can actually get a private seat without someone ear-wigging into your conversation which is a rarity in Edinburgh. Also next to the Water of Leith its the perfect pitstop for a day out. We will definitely be back!!!

Tobermory Omelette. A nice alternative to a full on fry up. Informal, not too busy when we were in as a bit off the beaten track which suited us, serves nice coffee and works with locals suppliers so many boxes ticked. Nice alternative brunch options. Be back to try their cake selection next time though.

A great little hidden gem, just off the Water of Leith. The coffee is great, and they have a small selection of really good cakes made in house. The menu is expanding, totally worth checking out.

Local, organic and tasteful elements, and a great wine selection. A good one.

Exactly! We were expecting for better. Hard to get a table, but in the end I rather went to other place in Leith.

We clearly didn't plan things out well, as we had to scramble to hit stops 6 and 7 within an hour of closing, on our last full day in Edinburgh. But, in our defense, coffee shops close up super early in Edinburgh! We hustled our way from the Mile towards Cairngorm, side-stepping tourists and hurrying across intersections. On a normal day, it would've been a nice jaunt through town, but on this day, it was a hectic seemingly-longer-than-it-should-have-been-half-sprint to the front door. I did love the feel of this shop, from the steps leading down to the cozy interior and the bags of spent coffee bean lining the ceiling. The girl working that day was very nice and welcoming. We placed our order and settled into a small table near the back of the building. I kept an eye on the barista (hubby's back was to the counter) so that I could pop up to grab our drinks when they were ready, but she brought them to us, instead. She saw our Disloyal 7 cards out on the table, and said, "Be sure to bring that by before you leave so that I can stamp them!" The lattes were good, with a nice, rich and creamy flavor. I think I could've ended our night here, wrapped up in the warmth of a good latte and a comfortable chair, but my husband pointed out that we had time to get to the final stop on our list, if we hurried. So, we went up to the counter and had the barista stamp their slice, and then hurried once more into the cold Edinburgh dusk.
