One of the nicest tea rooms we've eaten at. All the baked goods looked delicious. We had the cream teas and it was perfect. It's small and gets busy very quickly, so be prepared to wait. It's worth the wait!

Wonderful experience at Clarinda's tea room. Simple, lovely atmosphere with a down to earth, homey feel. great stop for tea!

I have been exploring the local tea room and cafe treasures when I found this place on Yelp. I tried to come yesterday only to discover that they're closed on Wednesdays so I came again this morning and I'm so glad I did! This tea room is incredibly cute inside with beautiful table settings and decor and a nice view outside through the back door. I ordered the cream tea set, which comes with your choice of a plain or fruit scone (today's fruit scone was with currants) with creme and jam, and a cup of their house tea, all for just 4.80 pounds, which is a pretty great deal around these parts. Milk and sugar are already on your table in pretty jugs and containers. The scone was delicious! It had the perfect texture and consistency- not too hard or too soft. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience here. And luckily I came before the influx of customers, since seating is a bit limited inside the somewhat small shop. One thing to note for tourists like myself: This place is CASH ONLY. Credit cards are no good here, at least not right now.

What a charming little spot right on the Royal Mile! Delicious scones! Large menu of teas to choose from. Don't miss the bathroom!

The Cream Tea set (4.30 pounds), everything you need for afternoon tea.

A quaint tea room crammed full of tea sets and dollies. It's a good place to stop by for a break or a quiet place to rest up, especially after walking all day in the nearby tourist areas. We each had the cream tea special (4.30 pounds), which included a homemade plain or fruit scone served with fresh cream, jam and butter with a cup of tea. The service was kinda meh, since our waitress spent more time hanging out in the kitchen (we could see her) than in the restaurant area. Still, we got what we came for so it was okay.

Quaint spot and quiet restaurant for desserts, tea and soups and sandwiches. Hubby ordered lentil soup and it came out for n a large bowl. My smoked salmon and cucumber sandwich was very flavorful. Could have had more chips and slaw, though. Nice variety of teas and they come out in porcelain tea pots and cups with lace tablecloth.

Cute. Yummy brunch . Love the scones and jam!!! . Should have been more evident that they accept cash only!! I'd recommend for tea/coffee and dessert or light meal. :) ( they display the scones and cakes for your drooling pleasure!!)

The seating area, it is small but not cramped.

The most lovely tea room experience and for a very reasonable price. I had the scones with clotted cream and tea and it was fantastic. The decor is delightful and transports you to a darling living room out of a novel. There isn't many options for food that would constitute a lunch beyond soup but the intention is not for lunch but an afternoon break. This spot is cash only so be aware of that. If you do tea in the city please do it here.

I usually take the stairs because the lift is a bit of a faff and you have to get a staff member to come and operate it for you. Once you get up to the café level, you are met with a charmingly decorated dining room, amazing views across Princes Street Gardens to the High Street and great Scottish food. When we first walked in, the place was quite empty and we were guaranteed a seat because there were only 2 other people dining at the time. As the waitress showed us to our table and gave us our menus, I decided to have a slice of the gorgeous looking red velvet cake and a glass of Irn Bru. While we waited for the food to arrive, I visited the toilets, which were up some more steep steps. (UGH!!!!) This time the steps were spiralling up, which made the journey even more exhausting. However, the toilets were clean and functional with hot water, soap and plenty of paper towels. When I got back, the food had arrived and I tucked in. The cake was very filling and delicious. The cream filling is what made it amazing. The Irn Bru was as traditional as always. The waitress checked back on us after about 5 minutes to see how we were doing and of course, there was nothing but praise back to her. Once we got the bill it was a tad pricey but it was worth it for the first class food, service and surroundings. I was slightly disappointed that we didn't get to sit by the ginormous bay windows overlooking Princes Street but we still had a pretty good view as we were seated in the row of tables behind the window. The stairs put me off going here slightly but that doesn't really matter because I will be back to try one of their delightful looking scones!

What a quaint wee tea room!…read more Situated in the centre of the New Town area of Edinburgh, Brown Sugar is just a few streets from the main shopping area, Princes Street, and so it is a convenient place to reach - and it is definitely worth a visit. Brown Sugar is a wee corner cafe overlooking Queen Street, and it would be quite easy to walk straight past this place and not notice it as it is pretty inconspicuous from the outside. I have been here several times for a coffee and a cake and each time I go I wonder why I'm not here more often. The interior of the Cafe is really new and modern, with great chilled out music playing in the background. You always get a wonderful waft of fresh coffee as soon as you enter you shop, and there is something about that smell which completely compels me to buy coffee! There is a counter at the back of the store which sells the most amazing looking home made cakes, such as cheese cake and carrot cake, but my absolute favourite is their chocolate brownie which is in credibly moist and fluffy with huge chunks of chocolate - yummy! Brown Sugar unfortunately comes with the standard New Town prices, so the cakes and drinks are a wee bit more expensive than other cafes in Edinburgh, but the delicious food makes it worth it. If you want to buck the trend and avoid going to the Starbuck's or Costa on every street corner, Brown Sugar is a fantastic alternative.

I have been here several times and it's always had the same atmosphere, and I have never seen anyone in here with kids which adds to the peace! The menu is really good, with sandwiches, soups, salads and baked potatoes amongst others, and the cakes are brilliant! I had a lovely toffee sponge cake and like Lauren says, the chocolate brownie is fabulous! Definitely one of the best wee caffs around. Just don't tell too many people, or everyone will want a piece!

We walked in around 3-4pm, so there were definitely less people inside. We got a table by the back portion of the store. We each got a set of mini sandwiches, a scone, desserts on top. The food was good. I ended up eating everything. The scone was different from the typical scones that I would imagine, but I enjoyed it with the cream and preserve nonetheless. As for the tea, they served it in a heavy blue teapot with a small teacup. They gave us a timer so that we were able to accurately steep our tea. That was very helpful instead of doing a guessing game. They also offered to add just additional hot water to our pot if we wanted more tea, which we were grateful for. Overall, the service was good. We were able to take our time to talk for a good while before it was nearing closing time. We didn't feel rushed at all. At one point, we were the only ones sitting in the back section. Just as well the traffic isn't mirrored by demand for tables, at it is small and there are about 4 or 5 tables here. As part of feeding my ongoing cake habit and my need to sniff out anywhere that does GF cake, I headed down to Stockbridge at the weekend. Hanna Cherries prides itself in natural ingredients so many of their offerings can be suitable for vegan and/or gluten free diets. For coffee addicts, this probably isn't the best place for you as only filter coffee is available. A wide range of teas are available as well as hot chocolates and juices. The interior is lovely - lemon walls, mismatched furniture and also a book exchange if you want to relax with some reading. The service was great too - asked a couple of times if everything was ok but we were left alone to chat without constant interruptions. So, I'll definitely return.
