I usually take the stairs because the lift is a bit of a faff and you have to get a staff member to come and operate it for you. Once you get up to the café level, you are met with a charmingly decorated dining room, amazing views across Princes Street Gardens to the High Street and great Scottish food. When we first walked in, the place was quite empty and we were guaranteed a seat because there were only 2 other people dining at the time. As the waitress showed us to our table and gave us our menus, I decided to have a slice of the gorgeous looking red velvet cake and a glass of Irn Bru. While we waited for the food to arrive, I visited the toilets, which were up some more steep steps. (UGH!!!!) This time the steps were spiralling up, which made the journey even more exhausting. However, the toilets were clean and functional with hot water, soap and plenty of paper towels. When I got back, the food had arrived and I tucked in. The cake was very filling and delicious. The cream filling is what made it amazing. The Irn Bru was as traditional as always. The waitress checked back on us after about 5 minutes to see how we were doing and of course, there was nothing but praise back to her. Once we got the bill it was a tad pricey but it was worth it for the first class food, service and surroundings. I was slightly disappointed that we didn't get to sit by the ginormous bay windows overlooking Princes Street but we still had a pretty good view as we were seated in the row of tables behind the window. The stairs put me off going here slightly but that doesn't really matter because I will be back to try one of their delightful looking scones!

I came pretty close to the opening and was able to select my choice for seats. I picked a table near the window for natural lighting. They have a table of a lot of tasty treats and while I didn't get a chance to try them all, I can attest to the scone being very tasty! I ordered the Cream Tea (I think I ordered the Lemon and Elderflower) which comes with a freshly baked homemade scone (I chose a fruit one), and a cup of tea €6.80. I decided to upgrade to a pot of tea (€7.75) and added a bowl of porridge (€5.50) with jam as I usually prefer savory breakfasts. This was more than enough to eat for one, but I just enjoy trying different items - does anyone else have this problem? lol I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here as the ambiance, food and tea were homey and intimate. This would be such a fun place to converse with girlfriends for tea time!

We had breakfast here on our first day in Edinburgh. It's cozy and the walls are covered with paintings, antique cups, and plates. To be honest the walls are quite chaotic but that's where the personality comes in. We ordered the eggs with toast and the full Scottish breakfast. Food was great, coffee hit the spot, and service was excellent. Even with the chaos they keep the place clean. Also, BEWARE they do not have hot sauce here LOL. I asked the server and she said "No, but it was worth a try to ask" Respect lol. We sat by the window and people watched and awed at the beautiful architecture of Edinburgh. It's a chill spot to rest and refuel. Would love to come back for their afternoon tea!

We walked in around 3-4pm, so there were definitely less people inside. We got a table by the back portion of the store. We all ordered our own Classic Sandwich Afternoon Tea Set with our various tea selections. We were a group of 4 and they gave us 2 towers (2 sets on one tower). We each got a set of mini sandwiches, a scone, desserts on top. The food was good. I ended up eating everything. The scone was different from the typical scones that I would imagine, but I enjoyed it with the cream and preserve nonetheless. As for the tea, they served it in a heavy blue teapot with a small teacup. They gave us a timer so that we were able to accurately steep our tea. That was very helpful instead of doing a guessing game. They also offered to add just additional hot water to our pot if we wanted more tea, which we were grateful for. Overall, the service was good. We were able to take our time to talk for a good while before it was nearing closing time. We didn't feel rushed at all. At one point, we were the only ones sitting in the back section. It felt very private and relaxing. We all enjoyed our time chatting indoors and stayed away from the rain for a bit.

It appears pretty busy with lots of people coming and going into different therapy rooms. Just as well the traffic isn't mirrored by demand for tables, at it is small and there are about 4 or 5 tables here. As part of feeding my ongoing cake habit and my need to sniff out anywhere that does GF cake, I headed down to Stockbridge at the weekend. Hanna Cherries prides itself in natural ingredients so many of their offerings can be suitable for vegan and/or gluten free diets. For coffee addicts, this probably isn't the best place for you as only filter coffee is available. A wide range of teas are available as well as hot chocolates and juices. A limited sandwich menu is offered as are soups from Union of Genius. I got a sandwich which for me was basic but this place gets 4* for the cakes. There was a fab range if cakes for vegan and gluten free diets and there were also dairy free options. The carrot and orange cake I had was a decent size wedge and was lovely. I was also tempted by the coffee and walnut and it did take a bit of uhmming and ahh-ing before I finally decided. The interior is lovely - lemon walls, mismatched furniture and also a book exchange if you want to relax with some reading. The service was great too - asked a couple of times if everything was ok but we were left alone to chat without constant interruptions. So, I'll definitely return. I will be back for cake in a heartbeat - home made, great options and gf choices so just fab :-)

Had a fabulous afternoon tea here with some Yelpers on Sunday. I'm not sure how I managed to eat ALL the food but I was definitely stuffed to the brim when I waddled out.. (oh i totally know how.. it was all DELICIOUS!) I really liked that the afternoon tea isn't the usual "sandwiches" on the bottom tier, which always seem to make me feel a bit bloated from so much bread. The pomegranate & quinoa salad was absolutely DEE-vine and as soon as I got home I instantly regretted not buying a portion to takeaway. There wasn't one thing which I didn't like on the afternoon tea, which is a rare occurance.. I usually find one thing to dislike amongst the plethora of things one gets served at afternoon tea.. but I happily devoured everything which was allocated to me! I may have been eyeing up Sara's leftover brownie.. but shhh! noone else needs to know that! Service was friendly and laid back, I appreciated that Marie Claire came upstairs to tell us what everything was. The house made raspberry and rhubarb & vanilla jams were totally scrumptious! I would happily eat that raspberry jam with a spoon.. Good selection of teas supplied by eteaket, the chilli rooibos was super yummy and I'm sure the chilli helped my belly digest all the scrumminess!! The dining room is preTTy small, so if you're a large group, it will pay to call ahead and book. There was a birthday party of 8 while we were there on Sunday (as a party of 6) and it did feel a bit squished. If you're feeling super fly, you can BYOB a bottle of bubbles to really get you in the mood!! Thanks to Jackie for supplying bubbly for our table!
