A ham and cheese baguette, coming in at the amazing price of £3!
    Claire C.

The Clock is an unassuming little cafe and coffee shop in Dalry, although inside it offers quite a surprise! The upstairs is small and only really caters for couples, but if you do downstairs there are lots of tables, couches and comfy places to sit and enjoy some grub and a hot drink. For a ridiculous £3 I ordered a ham and cheese baguette. Expecting it to turn up with a wee salad garnish, I was instead rewarded with a plate overflowing with food. A nice side salad featuring cherry tomatoes, red onions, peppers and mixed leaves and a perfectly munchable helping of chips were included as part of the price tag. For £3?! Amazing. The food was tasty, too. The ambiance is relaxing and friendly. The Clock is a great place to soak up the weekend vibes with the Sunday papers and a coffee. Service was also friendly and prompt, so I really can't fault this place.

Its a typical diner and perfect for locals. From the outside it looks nothing like what you can expect from the inside. The upstairs is very small, just a few tables, but as soon as you walk down the spiral steps you are entering two more rooms, more spacious this time. On the walls are paintings and prints from various artists, which you can buy for a price. I ordered the traditional breakfast, which comes with Orange juice, bread, eggs, sausage, really awesome crispy bacon and beans and all for a price of £5.80. You are definitely getting your money's worth and even more. The service is really nice and the atmosphere is very cozy, jusy perfect for meeting friends and loved ones alike.

Veggie breakfast! There's a veggie sausage buried under those beans!

The Clock is a great little cafe on Dalry Road. It's not going to blow your socks off, but it does a pretty solid job at providing very reasonably priced food and drink that puts a smile on your face every time. In my opinion, cafes shouldn't be fancy. They should be casual, rough around the edges and serve simple, cheap and calorific food. The Clock certainly ticks all those boxes. There are a few small tables upstairs, but I don't think any of them can sit more than 2 people. Head down the spiral staircase in the middle of the floor to reach the much larger downstairs area. Things are a bit worn down there, with some rather tatty chairs and sticky table tops. But they do their best to keep the place presentable and it doesn't feel dingy or depressing at all, just a little... well loved. One slight negative, though, is that they don't have any background music or radio or anything down there, so being away from the traffic noise and hustle and bustle from the kitchen makes the place as silent as a graveyard, which doesn't make for a good atmosphere! The food is served in big portions on thick plates and is super tasty. There's loads and loads on the menu, and all of it will fill your belly for a mere few quid. The coffee is fairly decent too! The waitresses have always been perfectly friendly and efficient as well, which is a nice change from most humble cafes where you often get your food virtually thrown at you. On the whole, there is no better place to grab a decent cheap breakfast or slap-up lunch in this part of town. Just don't expect the Ritz!

The macchiato was made properly and the beans were of good quality. They do have seating in the back but I didn't check it out. The store front is very well put together. They also have a good selection of baked goods. The lemon blueberry cake was very nice. Definitely a repeatable experience if you like good coffee.

Strumpets is the newest addition to an already packed West End roster of coffee shops - so much so, that it sits directly next to another cafe. I'm not sure how that will bode for their future, but it gave me a giggle nonetheless. I've been off the ol' coffee lately, so when we popped our heads in here, I opted for orange juice. Pricy for the bottle, but unlike my recent grumble about cafes charging £3+ for standard tropicana, the fare offered here is on the higher end of the juice scale and seems a little more justified in its crazy price tag. Regardless, I would happily throw down £3 again to sit in their ridiculously adorable back room! With ornate chairs, a pretty little window seat and well picked antiques - it's like stepping into a lady Sherlock's study. I'm a BIG fan. It's TINY - three spaces to sit, all of them no more than two chairs - but on a quiet day, it would be a great place to work from... it positively screams world domination! However, if it's a bit cramped, they do have one slightly larger table out front. The owner is super cheerful and the baked goods look interesting. They do crumpets on Sundays, which is a nice touch and duly noted, as it's an easy stop on the way home for me. I'm nervous for this place, because I'm not sure it has the oomph to keep up with some of the big gun cafes now residing in the West End, but I hope i'm wrong - because this little spot wins on charm alone.

I adored the lime, poppyseed, and blueberry roulade! It was gone before the soup and toastie sandwich arrived. Crispy on the outside and so very soft and tasty on the inside. The cookie pie was impressive, but I honestly liked the roulade so much better. The soup today was broccoli and it was delicious! I had a ham and cheese sandwich lightly grilled in a panini press. Mom had a chorizo sandwich. The ladies at the bakery were lovely! Friendly happy folk always make food taste better! The bakery was quiet and not busy at 12:30 pm. It wasn't empty, just not busy. We got a table for 3! It was funny (and also a sad commentary on humans) that the still water available said "Please turn the tap off." Silly people. Thank you so much for a wonderful lunch! My very first time I came I tried a vegan cinnamon bun. It was warm, soft, and had that sweet caramelization from the sugar on the bun. It was soooo good. If you follow them on Instagram they even sometimes release what goods are in the shop since they switch it up! Tasty Buns definitely became a go to of mine and I think there is truly something for anyone with a sweet tooth!
