Boba in SATX has been in a state of constant flux (#1) during the last decade, but places like Artea are ensuring that there is change on the horizon. Since opening their doors just two years ago, they've become one of the most popular boba spots in the entire city. Given all that they offer from drink variety to snacks / food, they're about as complete as Taiwanese inspired boba cafes can get at this point. They're busy almost all the time. Whether it's from people ordering from delivery services or directly through an app, it's pretty impressive that they've been able to churn out all they have. I think every time I've been here there's been at least a 10-15 min wait. The lines vary all throughout the day and the seating is sparse enough to warrant a small group and spread out enough to feel safe while doing it. From a drinks perspective, I appreciate the variety. Their signature milk tea is classic, but I've been a red bean matcha latte devotee for awhile now. Their oolong milk tea is also quite good and the infamous Okinawa kokuo sugar boba latte is truly as sweet as it sounds. I do appreciate the fact they serve the drinks in the extra wide containers for added boba fun. I think their cloud cream based drinks are also a hit and are perfect for a treat during hot weather months (#2). The drinks overall range from average to good, but I'm always trying new ones to get to the next level. I won't lie, I'm extremely impressed with the food. Their version of the Taiwanese popcorn chicken is mildly addicting and makes for the perfect snack. I was not expecting the gua bao to be so tasty but the price tag of $7.50 makes me less inclined to get it each time. The spicy edamame is a nice surprise for me and packs plenty of heat as well. I am not particularly fond of the pot stickers and/or udon, but I have enjoyed the wings and their hearty'ish bowl of teriyaki chicken, which comes with a soft boiled egg for good measure. For the most part service is nice and there are a lot of folks working behind the counter and in the back. Slow pick up and long wait times has made the overall experience a little less than ideal, but manageable. Quick service, chill atmosphere, and the food was delicious too. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because I wish there more/better choices for drinks for people who don't want the boba teas or smoothies. The ambience is family friendly. Lots of tables and seating. This seems like a place for a younger crowd. But I wouldn't recommend this for a work function or working remotely. ArTea was Almost Perfection~ On Friday, I celebrated my 2- year work anniversary by placing a large catering order at ArTea. I scoped out the location one day as I was driving by and Yelped it to see the menu. The pictures reminded me of Okinawan dishes from my days in the military and I had to see for my self why Yelpers were raving over the Teriyaki Don. I hated that I had to go in to the restaurant to place my order because the phone lines were down. I was greeted immediately by one of the team members and appreciated the COVID precautions in place for their employees and myself. Marisa, the manager greeted me warmly and explained to me the process of downloading the app and placing my order online to nab the points. Since it was a company function, I jumped at the opportunity to have my employer treat me while getting the reward. The restaurant's aromas had my tummy rumbling as I smelled grilled chicken and the sweet smells of teriyaki chicken wafting through the door. The place was cute and quaint inside and I knew this would be a future destination on my Foodie Tour now that I had moved to this side of town. Once I went home, I ordered the Taiwan Pop Corn chicken ( was not a fan... kind of bland and spot on critique from another yelper) 9 orders of Teriyaki Chicken Don, 2 orders of Yaki Don, 2 orders of Carne Asada Tacos, 2 Pork Belly Dons, 1 Gua Bao, 3 Pot Stickers ( Delicious) 2 orders of Spicy Candied Bacon ( Delicious sugar in bacon form) Edamame, Win Wings and Sweet Potato Fries. This order was for nearly 25 people and the new eatery location was cheered by my team. A few of my peers ordered some of the specialty drinks and I also splurged and treated myself to the Strawberry Frappe. Now I might have never paid $8.25 for a smoothie in my life but the drink was amazing. I enjoyed letting the grape and passion bead pop in my mouth on that 90 degree day. For your information, for a small charge the restaurant does charge a minimal fee for Teriyaki and dipping sauces. This was a 5 star rating as the food was prepared at the specified time, but as neatly as the food was prepared, the teriyaki sauce was ladled onto the containers with Teriyaki Don and half way through my commute, the containers tipped over. Oh the joy of arriving to work with teriyaki dripping down my pant legs as I tried to stop it from dripping on my car floors. The bags were pooling teriyaki sauce by the time I got to work. I'm not sure how they could have protected the bags, but I would recommend using the plastic sealed lids with anything that has liquid... especially sticky sweet liquids. I arrived to work covered in Teriyaki sauce and couldn't enjoy my meal as all the Teriyaki's leaked. My coworkers eagerly grabbed their containers, but I spent the majority of the luncheon cleaning tables and trying to prevent my pants from sticking to my leg... All in all the food minus the Taiwan Pop Corn were items that I'd dine on often outside of my company's treat. Highly recommended~ Marisa double checked the order and everything was correct except me wearing Teriyaki perfume at work. This place would be a perfect place to hang out and catch up with your friends! They are usually busy. I went in around 9:30 PM and had to wait around 10-15 minutes for my drink (they notify you before you order if it does take that long). I've tried their signature milk tea and their taro milkshake. The signature milk tea is very good; although a little too heavy on the milk. You can really taste the black tea. Their taro milkshake is a little grainy, because they use real taro, and also is sweet. I would only go to this place for the vibes. I'm an UberEats driver so I pick up deliveries for folks all the time and this place near UTSA is pretty poplar! So I decided to give it a try, it always smells so good and they didn't disappoint. They are an attentive group and greet everyone that walks in. There are menus posted in a couple of different places and there is a protective screen between you and the counter. The folks taking your order are speaking through a intercom system so the process is pretty simple. I ordered the gao bao, pork belly sliders and the carne asada tacos which took about 20 min to come out and I headed home as I'd got it to go and I was trying to beat a storm. Everything was boxed up and still warm when I got home. I liked the sliders the best, the pork used was the same on the sliders as the gao bao but prepared differently, both delicious but prepared differently. The pork was moist and tender, not too chewy. This is a nice boba place. Everything from the interior, prices, to drink add-ons screams upscale... but it's worth it! The signature drinks are so unique to include bear shaped jellies and Nata jelly which is their pineapple flavored jelly. We tried the signature tea with boba and the strawberry lime green tea with fresh strawberries and pineapple jelly! Both were delicious and something I would reorder. The Okinawa Kobuto latte was smooth, not too sweet and light meanwhile the Straw Beary Lychee Lime Green Tea was sweet (perhaps a little too sweet), tangy and refreshing. This was a very interesting place to visit, the name confused me a little really though was only bubba tea. BUT no ! Artea offers a food menu and of course a variety of specialty teas. My favorite dish carne asada tacos ! Served with cheese and two non spicy salsas, tacos can be with corn or flour tortillas. The meat was well seasoned and tender like I said my favorite. The establishment itself is really nice ! All of the staff were really friendly. The inside was really clean. They really did not tell us to be 6ft apart but as customers we enforced it ourselves. We ordered a bunch of food since this was our first time trying this place. Dumplings- were AMAZING! You can taste the seasoning in every bit Yaki Udon- the noodles were thick but I liked them. Since this is still in the midst of COVID-19, I opted for delivery. I admit, I did stop by the restaurant once, but upon seeing how packed it was inside, I had an anxiety attack and left. This was about a month before lockdown. I ordered the pork belly don, a heaping serving of rice, a soft boiled egg, pickled cucumber, and delicious slices of fatty, fatty pork belly. The rice was my favorite, because it had a soy and sesame sauce poured over it, followed by the pork. I wasn't terribly impressed with the egg, as I like it a little more runny but eh, what can you do? The major star of the show was the butterfly pea special. Think of it kind of like an Arnold Palmer, but photogenic. Butterfly pea flower provides the beautiful indigo shade on top, and a lemonade on the bottom. My wife got the Butterfly Pea Special with the Cherry Blossom Crystal boba. Her drink was very colorful, refreshing, and the boba was some of the best she has had. I ordered the Okinawa Kokuto Sugar Boba Latte. My drink looked excellent, however it was a little too sweet for my taste. I would have preferred to be able to request a little less sweetness to the drink. Do make sure you mix up that latte as well, otherwise towards the end it tastes a bit like regular milk. Cute spot with plenty of parking. Upon entering, it's very bright and inviting. Now the important part - the food. We ordered: popcorn chicken, sweet potato fries, gua boa, yataki udon, pot stickers and wings. The popcorn chicken didn't taste like it had a lot of chicken, just a lot breading and slightly salty. Sweet potato fries comes with a side of honey mustard and are pretty bland. The wings were had a bit of kick but other than that, nothing to write home about. The bao has powdered sugar on it, which I'm not a fan of. I would enjoy it a lot more without the sugar. The pot stickers were good. I saved the best for last - the udon is so good. It was flavorful with the beef, mushroom and onions. The butterfly pea tasted like a berry lemonade. The color pretty and all but taste is nothing to write home about. However, the jasmine is so fragrant. It is in fact one is the better jasmine drinks I've had. I wouldn't come back here and wouldn't recommend any of my friends and family either. Came to this place a few different times hoping that it was just a one time bad experience but unfortunately that isn't the case. The drinks are VERY sweet. I asked if I could have less sugar/ less ice and they do NO modifications on drinks which is very weird for drinks that are made fresh. So makes me believe that everything is premade and measured. I asked why they can't just add less ice and they just said they can't do that. Both times I went I ordered food. First time was the pork belly. I like it crispy so I asked if I can have it extra crispy and to my surprise they said no. That they can't do that. I just explained they just needed to cook it longer. They said the chefs don't know how to do that. Annoyed at that point I said fine whatever. The second time I went I got the wings. I also asked for well done crispy wings and they said no. They can't do that. I asked how the wings are cooked they said fried so I said just fry it an extra minute, I don't care. They said no. Both times food came out it was cold. My pork belly was super fatty and soft which is what I wanted to avoid by getting cooked longer. With there crappy excuse to not make the food edible, it makes me think they don't have an actual kitchen in the back. I believe this place runs on food and drinks premade and they literally just heat it up or '"mix" the drinks together. They don't do ANY modifications on anything which I believe is a poor practice for restaurant business. What if I had an allergy to something they cook with?! They couldn't adjust it. Date night success. CoViD has made things rather challenging when trying to have meals or special drinks out. But I am pleasantly surprised with Artea. They are allowing ordering inside now. It is rather challenging to order through the plexus-glass & masks. It's hard to hear and understand. But you make it work. The drinks are delicious! I am a huge fan of milk tea. I have removed dairy from my diet...so I have to find places who make great milk teas dairy free. This one was a SCORE for me. First drink...heaven. Really hit the spot.
