We ordered the Dragon Roll and the Spring Roll - both were good. For what it's worth, a lot of the sushi rolls on the menu have cream cheese in them. They have a drive thru, but if you sit inside, first thing you'll see when you walk in is the chefs preparing food. Colorful art is everywhere. Yellowfish Sushi, with a location close to Wurzbach & I-10 and it's second location at Blanco @ Loop 410, has changed the concept of sushi in San Antonio from a traditionally gated and pricey dinner option to a casual affair meant for sharing and with little to no fuss. The first and smaller Wurzbach storefront, located near the Medical Center, started it all. Brenda & Alex Sarmiento, the talent behind the popular El Señor Es Mi Pastor Taco (which opened after Yellowfispot just down the street), wanted to find the same sushi environment to San Antonio from their hometown of CDMX, where sushi is a much more casual and less imposing scene. Where sushi has been seen in San Antonio as a "special" type of dinner usually reserved for date nights, graduations, or an exotic night out in the town, the Sarmiento siblings decided to bring the informal dining option, remove the prohibitive pricing, and create unique offerings fusing Mexican flavors and ingredients with Japanese led rolls. The rolls are authentic representations and an evolution of the rolls in the streets of CDMX, from the unique citrus based soy sauce freshly made every week to the Gansitos roll which combines a traditional with yes, a Gansitos roll, the ubiquitous pastelito treat you can find at any tiendita in Mexico and now in any Latino grocery store. I've had several rolls and offerings at both locations. Some of my faves: Tocino Roll - yes, the bacon tempura is dope but the thinly sliced lemon peel gives this roll an incredible kick that you'll remember. El Dorado Roll - the Tampico and Anguila sauce is a standout and the shrimp and cream cheese provide this roll with the base for that punch of a sauce. A great example of the fusion that is going on here at Yellowfish. Summer Roll - your classic prepared summer roll that is perfect for a lite bite of sushi offering; you can really taste the freshness and is a prefect take home meal to pair with a crisp cider. I really thought that through for some reason. Cevichimi - Sashimi style sushi in a more traditional ceviche style taste profile and serving, I really think this is a game changer even though once you try it it's pretty obvious how this concoction hasn't been made before. It's a wonderful combo of flavors that really pop. Salmon Japarrito - innovation doesn't mean everything always hits at 100. this "burrito" is a mouthful for sure and when you drench it in their homemade citrus based soy sauce it's a winner; I just wanted a bit more salmon but otherwise it's good. Yellowfish Roll - the namesake roll lives up to its bestowed honor with its flavored packed combo of picante shrimp, cilantro, habanero infused caviar, and their signature Salsa Roja, it's a great introduction to JapaMex cuisine here! Gansito Roll - the intro hits but the finale shuts it down... a Gansito is wrapped in rice and prepared with fresh strawberries and chocolate syrup. It's delicious and shows a more whimsical approach for desert. I'm not even a quarter of the way in trying the rolls but you can tell much of the menu has been carefully thought out and the pairings aren't gimmicks or creations for the sake of creation; instead, Yellowfish, in adopting two culturas to make a new one, and have created something amazing that frankly is a better experience than either cuisine on its own. Additionally, the reasonable pricing and causal environment is an exciting opportunity for San Antonio folks to approach sushi from a different perspective. I highly recommend you head out there and get some. Pro Tip: the Gansito Roll is (sometimes) not a menu item but can be made by request. Sadly, I was very disappointed in the meal ordered from Yellowfish Sushi. I ordered the poke bowl with their rojo sauce and vinegar soy sauce. Both of them came in their containers, separately wrapped. The poke bowl was a half and half deal with zucchini noodles and sushi rice. I am fairly new to poke bowls, but they have become an obsession, so I eat them regularly. Therefore, I am thankful that this wasn't my first bowl because I don't think I would have ever had poke bowls again. The tuna smelled and had an extremely fishy taste. The sauces did not add to the flavor of the bowl at all. In fact, after a couple of bites, I could no longer continue and my almost $14 dollars ended up in the trash. It was very distasteful. The Yellowtail Sashimi was some of the freshest and tastiest we've ever had. The Poke Bowl was extremely delicious and beautifully presented. This is the 3rd time we've been to this place. It is not he easiest to see on the street when you are trying to drive by since it's not right on the road. It does have a small parking lot around it though not a lot of spaces we never had any issues parking. I loved their seared salmon and all their hand rolls (they call it Japanese tacos haha). Seared salmon (nigiri or sashimi) are not on the menu but you can order it with the chef (since they do have seared/torched other menu items), they are exquisite. The hand rolls are also stuffed with ingredients! Last but not least, if you order the green tea icecream they give you 3 huge scoops, unlike some other stores who only give you a tiny mini-scoop. Stopped in for our first visit tonight. We opted for the all-you-can-eat option. The sushi was of decent quality, but we will not be returning due to the way we were treated by the manager. There was a miscommunication with our server where additional sushi was brought out that we didn't order. Because of this, we had a few unfinished pieces of sushi on our plate. The manager rudely (and loudly) informed us that it would be $2 per unfinished piece. I understand the premise behind doing this so people don't over-order. However, when we explained how we got extra sushi we didn't order, she blamed it on us and doubled down that it would be $2 per piece. Also-- there is no tap water, bottled water is $2 a bottle which also wasn't communicated. This is just bad business and in my opinion the $2 isn't worth it. read more

By far one of the most unique and low key places we tried in SA. When I saw this place offered Japanese and Mexican fusion dishes, I was instantly intrigued. Coined Japamex. We came in a little before closing on a Monday night and were greeted right away. The inside is modern, bright and very artsy. The menu is one page front and back but has a ton of options, we were pleasantly overwhelmed. Our waitress made some great recommendations. The menu is conveniently organized into categories: raw rolls, cooked rolls, baked rolls and fried rolls. This made is very easy to navigate. I had the ceviche roll, philly hand roll and a fried plantanos dessert. The fish was extremely fresh, the rolls were tasty and and while it was hard to choose, the ceviche roll was a great recommendation. I haven't seen too many rolls with crawfish! I forgot what roll my friend had, but she enjoyed it. The sashimi was beautifully presented and yummy according to my guest! The only disadvantage I can find is that this place is a bit hard to get into with high traffic in this area, and it's a bit small. You might miss it if you are not paying close attention.
