We haven't been here for couple of years, but the quality and taste are still great. The old owner Alex has past away, but the the new owner continues the same traditional foods. We always sit at the bar to talk to the sushi chefs and see what is fresh. The feel of the location has been low key, with many open spots. Could be the unseasonable cold temp of 27F.
I found you. I went Kai sushi which closed often. Found out a lot of staff came here and brought the same menu items. Ordered what I normally do and it was awesome. Great staff. Awesome sushi. Cool spot. Conveniently located. Go try them out. I believe they rival goros BIG TIME.
Best sushi ! Sat at the bar and Mike the chef is amazing just watching him create his sushi dishes ! I've been following him since his days at Goros over 17 years ago and will continue. Great sushi, atmosphere, and location is super convenient right off highway.
Came for a birthday dinner. Our server brought so much energy to the table. They even took sake bombs with us. With a big party they were attentive and only missed a few items at first. They were very nice to give us everything we needed to cut and serve our cake.
I came back to try this place out again and was very impressed with the food and service. The only issue is there is a stench in the restaurant l I think it's coming from the bathrooms. Other than that, everything else was great.
Wife and I wanted a relaxed meal after a busy weekend, so we headed to Wasabi! We'd been before and really liked their yellowtail sashimi. The music was audible, but not overbearing. The atmosphere was calm which we greatly appreciated. We were sat in a booth, given waters, miso soup, and salad to start. I also ordered a Kirin Ichiban beer. They brought it out cold and with a cold glass. Wonderfully crisp taste. Our server was nice and ready to answer any questions we might have. The miso soup met expectations. I've definitely had miso that has felt watered down before and that was not the case here. The lettuce in the salad was crisp. We ordered the spicy rainbow roll and crazy salmon roll. You really can't go wrong with rainbow roll and my wife was willing to indulge me and my love for spicy. The rainbow roll is always so fresh and the variety of fish keeps it interesting. The spice was manageable so I of course mixed wasabi and soy sauce for just a hint of sinus clearing tingle at my nostrils. The crazy salmon roll was also delicious! My wife loves a good crunchy roll and both rolls met that goal. Wasabi has become one of our favorite SA sushi spots and we definitely recommend it to our friends and family. Cheers!
Great happy hour! Weekdays 4-7 pm. Their sushi was good too! We got the Ikura sushi, salmon sushi, Shibuya roll, yellow tail roll. The fish was fresh! Plus edamame (plain and spicy/garlic). I think next time I'll just get the plain edamame and the garlic one, the spicy was a little too spicy. The jalapeño bombs were great also but insanely spicy for me. Good, friendly service. It wasn't busy on a Tuesday at 5:30/6 pm. Not sure what it's like on the weekends. Will be back!
I would not recommend wasabi, and definitely think there are better options for sushi. I ordered a shrimp tempura roll and was severely disappointed it came wrapped in soy paper which was not specified on the menu. That being said, there was an excessive amount of rice for the roll. The fish quality itself is okay but I don't think I would come back.
Spacious and diverse restaurant with great service and food! Our server was very kind and patient! Their happy hour has some great deals, and the regular sashimi prices are great!! They have sushi, korean, and chinese inspired dishes. Lots of indoor seating, ranging from bar to booth to tables! The mussels appetizer was one of my favorites- although it is very rich and filling. The salmon sashimi was incredibly fresh and thick! The salmon roll was great too. My favorite roll was the salmon avocado- they gave generous portions of both! Would highly recommend this restaurant, especially for their happy hour. Anothet plus is that they have complimentary soup and salad when you dine in!

Great service the waitress was super nice and friendly. Made to make sure ask if we had any questions about the menu. The inside was nice and clean. No one was really there so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. I got the sushi which is why I really came. I wanted to try a new spot. The sushi was fresh and tasted great. They don't use a lot of rice which is nice. I got a good amount of sushi and wasn't overly full. I will definitely be coming back.
Just ordered through doordash and it is so yummy. It was ready fast and travelled well. The Spurs rolls are delicious and creamy!
Not one to leave reviews but I door dashed my food and this is what's sent to me. Like seriously wtf is this quality? Even the pieces that don't look like that are still insanely chewy and doesn't taste fresh whatsoever. If this is the quality that's good to send out then I dont even know how you guys are still in business. Never eating here again and there goes my dinner into the trash.

I recently discovered that Wasabi has a happy hour and love happy hours specially for food! I decided to go visit and order almost everything on the happy hour menu. When we arrived the place was empty. I got worried for a moment since the place is really run down specially the bathrooms and eating raw fish is a bit concerning. The waitress came and she was so friendly she took our order and at that moment the restaurant started filling up. The food came and everything was absolutely delicious! It is also so so cheap! Even being run down the ambiance feels cozy and after the experience I wish they keep it as is. Only the bathroom needs big time attention! read more
Wasabi is a hidden gem near the San Antonio Medical Center. The interior is upscale, but not in a stuffed shirt kind of way. The wait staff is impressively nice. We were lucky enough to meet the owner. He was multitasking like a conductor in front of a symphony. We started with gyoza then soup. I had my usual hot and sour. My wife had miso. All were wonderful. Next came the rolls. I had the Stephen Roll, and my wife the Couture Roll. Both rolls were amazing! Everything tasted fresh. Wasabi is now my favorite sushi restaurant. That is saying something since I have been to most sushi places in Bexar County. read more

We use to go to Fujiya and Loved it but it closed down and we got Lucky to find this place. Wasabi is Great The Food is Great the Staff is Great the price is Good. The Owner Mike Is a Great Guy and a Great Sushi Chef.100% Recommended. Also has Great Lunch Specials. read more

We planned to meet family friends for dinner tonight. We had decided to meet @wasabisushisa. Happy hour ended at 7pm. Dad had Lemonade, Hubby had Iced Green Tea, and I had hot green tea. We all had the complimentary salad with ginger dressing. Hubby, Dad and Dr. Tan had miso soup. Dad had wanted Shrimp Tempura so we ordered that. We also ordered Salmon sashimi. Grace had the Calamari. Several of us had the Chilean Sea Bass. Loved the salad and shishito peppers. We also had the Bacon-wrapped Scallops. Everything was delicious! David was our server and took good care of us. We ended up taking home some food. read more

Very friendly as soon as we came in. We decided to sit at the bar and we were given a free Tempura crabmeat appetizer. Very good! We had the seared and raw tuna-delicious!! We were also given a sample of white tuna (1st time we had tried it)-again, delicious! We will definitely be back within the week before we head back to NC!! read more

Best wasabi place I have ever ate at!!! The ambience was lovely as well! I wish I found it sooner! Reiji our waiter was so kind and gave exceptional service!!! Overall a wonderful experience and wish I had discovered this place sooner. And if you need any recommendations get the fried rice and the sesame chicken it was a 10/10 meal!! read more

For a Friday night, it was very busy but it was worth the wait for this amazing food. Never been before, and had never had bi Bim bop before but loved it and would absolutely go back again for it. Definitely very laid back atmosphere, and great place for a date--tablds are not on top of each other which was great. read more

I have ordered this for delivery today and person was very nice and made sure I received the food instead of just letting it sit outside. Very nice! The food looked very pretty, was nicely packed and everything was intact when it arrived. Probably one of the few places that do a good job with this that I've seen. The food overall was pretty good. The spicy crab avocado salad was better than expected and was filling but plenty of room for the salmon rolls and jalapeño bomb. I like how spicy the food was and had just enough sauce not to be overwhelming. Did order mochi ice cream too and it was alright. I would come back here in the future when I'm looking for sushi nearby home. Overall good experience. read more

Awesome sushi dive bar. It's dated but it's nice. Sat at the sushi bar for happy hour and it was impressive. From service to how fresh that fish was, you could tell they care about what they do there. Massive portions and unreal nigiri pricing $2 a piece from 4-7pm everyday. The menu is large and looks great especially for the lunch specials. Can't wait to come back. read more
The service was very good. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. That was the best part of our experience. The bathrooms had some graffiti and while they weren't filthy, they weren't clean. The women's restroom smelled and according to my wife was out of paper towels. The food was ok at best. Wasabi was my first experience trying Japanese food in San Antonio. I'm very picky when it comes to sushi and I'm more accustomed to sushi back in California so I kept my expectations at a minimum. I ended up choosing this place due to it being in close proximity to where I was and wanted to grab a quick dinner. I will say that I did like the interior of the restaurant especially the booth seating. The service was solid as our waitress that day was very sweet and also very personable. For me my biggest gripe was really the quality of the food and the menu overall. This restaurant advertises themself as a Japanese/sushi restaurant, but then they have a Korean food menu with items like a bulgogi bowl and a Chinese menu which to me is way too much. Plus the restaurant starts to lose an identity with a menu like this. I felt like they would be better if they stuck with what they excel at and their menu is too huge in my opinion. Although I did get a good kick out of them having a sushi roll called the Whatever Roll for those that are indecisive. The items I tried were the Chicken Katsu Don ($10.99) and the Unagi Roll ($9.99). The Chicken Katsu Don was pretty average. Not great or bad. The batter was already pretty soggy by the time I got it, but flavor wise it was still okay. I actually liked their Unagi Roll and you can really taste the fattiness from the eel. I did also try the California Roll from a friend's plate, but I was not a fan mainly because of the taste of the rice being a bit odd. With the Unagi Roll it gets doused with Teriyaki sauce so it masks the flavor of the rice, but rice not being the best in a sushi roll can torpedo the entire dish. I also tried some of my bestfriend's bulgogi bowl and I'm not gonna lie it did not taste like bulgogi at all. Overall my standouts were more on the great service and comfortable environment of the restaurant. The food overall fell flat for me unfortunately, but I still appreciate the service and the manager was also very nice. We forgot something at the restaurant after we left and it was past closing time. I had to drive back as quickly as possible and luckily what was missing was still there and the manager was waiting for us with it. I was pleased with the service and I definitely didn't have regrets trying out Wasabi. read more
This place is really cozy and clean. I see this place really good for hanging out with friends and family. It also gives the vibes of Japan at some point. Service was good, accommodating and really nice. The food delivery is not fast at all tho based on our experience. We've waited for like almost an hour to get a one order of sushi. But the appetizer and soup will came fast. The food itself was not really enticed my taste. It's more of sauce taste than the sushi itself so as the other order we had. I like more their miso soup. First time ordering Wasabi (through DoorDash - the doordash app is simple to use. Ordering food through the app is convenient and the service is very efficient). I was amazed by the quality of fish - unbelievably fresh! I definitely recommend ordering the Loyal Salmon Roll and having their Scallops. Great combination of sushi and the displaying of fish was very neat - in other words, great presentation! Price was inexpensive and decent at the most. Covid-19 what... Wasabi serves a complementary specialty house salad consisting of iceburg lettuce, sesame seeds and oil, yellow onions, carrots and mayonnaise, if interested, speak to the chef, Yoon, and he will gladly share his recipe with you.
