When I post about a company, it's usually supporting a small family business or product I love. This is NOT one of those posts. If I could give negative stars, I would. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt, but ARS needs to be held accountable for their dishonesty and deceit. My husband ARS to get our annual A/C unit inspection (tried another company first but they were booked for weeks). ARS came out and told us the A/C unit motor and compressors were both leaking and needed to be replaced. Our home warranty company sent a contractor out to give us an estimate on the repairs. Upon inspection, our A/C unit is fine, no leaks, no problem with the motor or the compressor. (Thank you, American Home Warranty, for your integrity). ARS was trying to upsell us on something we didn't need. Their employee flat out lied. Nothing was leaking. Nothing needed repairing. This is exactly why we have a home warranty service. Needless to say, we won't ever be using ARS for our heating/cooling needs again. Friends, use caution when hiring companies for home inspection purposes. Recommend going with another company. They replaced my air conditioning and left a big concrete block behind that they were supposed to take. I called management and they were great and sent someone else out to remove the block. For that I would've been given them 4 stars. Since they made the other problem good I decided to go with them to check my boiler before I turned it on for the winter.This was a big mistake. They called me 30 minutes after the beginning timeframe for them getting here to tell me they were going to have to reschedule because they were behind on emergency heating calls. I informed them that I don't have any heat right now either because I don't want to turn the boiler on until it was checked out. While the receptionist was wonderful and tried to make it right, she just called back again canceling and saying they can't reschedule me for 11 days. It is 58° in my house as I've waited a week since I made my appointment for them to come out so I can safely turn on my boiler to get heat in my house. This is my first winter in the house and the first time I've had a gas boiler. It is unacceptable to call me after my appointment was supposed to begin to cancel, especially when I informed them that I do not have heat either. I will never use this company again. read more

BEWARE I used Lowe's referral system when shopping for a new hot water heater and was contacted by ARS of Manassas #9207. I set up an appointment to have a technician come to my home and give an estimate to replace the hot water heater. The old heater would not keep the pilot light on and gave me an error message. However I could turn the switch off and then on again and the pilot and flame would then light and produce hot water for a period of time so to some degree the old unit was still working. The technician looked at the old unit and fiddled with a few parts he did not look up the error code given. During his inspection one of the hoses on top of the unit was pulled away and broken. He then told me that we were now getting a new error code and said the unit needed to be replaced. The hose was either accidently broken or the unit was sabotaged either way this is a very poor example of a company that is representing Lowe's. If it was an accident then the tech should of stated that and offered a solution and if it was sabotage, which is my feeling, then that is a criminal act. read more

Why would you choose this company? There are so many good companies that you can choose from and will give you excellent customer service, they are not one of them. Last year (2020) I signed a preventative maintenance contract with ARS, which entails a AC/Heat check up in the Fall and in the Spring (2 visits). They sold it to me as good way to prevent issues and to have our systems inspected. This Spring, they called scheduled an appointment with a arrival window of 7am-12pm. I agreed and took off work to be here. The day before the appointment they called to reschedule our appointment with the excuse as they are too busy to come out (Missed appointment #1). We did reschedule to another date. Of course, I had to contact my work and reschedule my time off. The change not only affects me, but others that schedule work around me. The second (new appointment) saw the same process happened again. They called the day before and postponed. I try to explain that this is the SECOND postponement, but they explained that they are sooo busy. Must be some more important customers than me; not sure how I get to be a higher ranking customer? We rescheduled to a new day. (Missed #2 appointment) On the third reschedule day, I had planned my time off, and guess what? They called again and asked to reschedule! Same excuse, too busy to service me and will have to do it on another date. (Missed appointment #3) On the fourth rescheduled day for an 7am-12pm arrival, I did not get a call the day before to reschedule, so we must be a go! I called to confirm, and she told me I was on the schedule. It is summer time now and Spring is over, but I need the inspection as i already paid for it. So I took off work. I wait that morning from 7am-12pm and no one showed. I got called at 12:30pm, and she said the tech was running later than expected and would be there from 12pm-5pm. I waited til 4:45pm and then called. I was told that the driver is still running late but I am his next stop! Yay! No show that night! Never heard from ARS or the tech. No show. (Missed appointment #4) Complete no show, no call, false promise of service. What is it to them if I took a vacation day, waited around all day for them to show and they never did? Would you want someone to handle your AC/Heat that acts like this? Are actions greater than words? I waited a couple of days assuming I would get a call from the manager offering a verbal apology and maybe try to coordinate another day? Nope, did not hear from them at all. Great service, right? Good follow-up? You be the judge. Finally a week or two we called Corp and they agreed to refund 50% of my contracted money (amount covers the appointment). I got an email, no apology, just " here is your refund". Why would you contract with a company that does not put customer service first? Why would they not follow up and try the first or second time to solve the issue? Can you trust a company like this, I cant. Are there other companies that can provide the same service, yes and keep their appointments. Things happen and I am tolerant in my ability to reschedule, but this is ridiculous. ARS management can follow up and solve the issue? Is the issue that hard to solve. Could they call me? I am just one customer, they probably have plenty of them and do not need to extend the same courtesy that they give to all of them, right? They are so profitable that they can afford to treat some of their customers this way, right? Poor business ethics, poor service, poor scheduling and poor customer satisfaction. Find another company that you can feel comfortable with and trust to take care of your HVAC needs. read more

On or about 08/11/22, my laundry room flooded, asked a friend, he was swamped and recommended ARS. At first they were awesome. Came in, did an estimate, next day did the work (but it took all day long), then came back next day to patch the drywall where they had cut a big hole in the wall. Was supposed to be about 2 hours, took all day, had to come back on 08/15/22 to finish patching & sanding. Promised to be there btwn 9 & 10. Showed up 11:45. Charged almost $1000. Here's the kicker...........Friday 08/19/22, guess what happened???!!! The LAUNDRY ROOM FLOODED AGAIN!!! Btwn then & now,(09/08) they have been called at least 5 or more times. They say they will call back, but nobody does AT ALL. Also, we have been waiting since 12th for a proposal for the insurance company. They have sworn over and over that it was sent, but it wasn't and still hasn't. Last Thursday, I made ANOTHER call and was promised they would call back in 24 to 48 hours.........STILL WAITING!! Save time and money and they DO NOT HONOR THEIR 100% SATISFACTION GUARANTEED OR YOUR MONEY BACK!!!!!! read more

Bottom line up front: If you value your time, then don't fall victim to their low priced HVAC tune up. It will end up costing you a lot more than just going with someone else with better reviews. My first mistake, I should have looked at the ratings on here before scheduling anything with them. ARS is national, so I thought they must be good since they have a reputation to keep... guess I was wrong and the amount of negative reviews on here already should have been a good indicator. Lesson learned. Background: I was enticed by their low-priced HVAC tune up pricing. I figured, I have a fairly brand new HVAC system, so it'll be good to ensure it's working properly. So I scheduled an appointment, and they had two time windows available: 8am-12pm or 12pm to 6pm. Yes... those are 4 and 6 hour time windows. You'd think they could easily meet the windows considering the amount of technicians they have running around... but they sure did prove me wrong. Day of the appointment: I first call them around 7.45am to find out if they have a better idea on timeframe they'll arrive as I opted for the 8am-12pm time slot. Nope. You'd think they would have a good understanding of their workload considering they are a national company and experienced in logistics and scheduling... NOPE. For the record, my job was about 15-20min max for a checkup (my HVAC is about a year old and I just needed to ensure all the readings looked good as the unit is still under warranty). I get a text message at 10.46am that they are running behind. So naturally I call them around 11am to find out the length of the delay, the gentleman on the phone advises me they've assigned me a technician and he is already in the area so it shouldn't take too long. So I was for an hour and now it's 1pm and I call again to find out what's up. The lady apologizes, offers to discount the tune up by another $10 and assures me she'll reach out to dispatch and have the technician reach me ASAP for an ETA. Nobody calls. I call again around 2pm and ask again, and they apologize again and tell me some jobs can take longer than normal and they've had emergency calls. Okay... so let me get this straight, you couldn't swing by in a 4-hour window for a job that would take 20minutes (at most!) and now it's 2 hours late and you still don't know when you'll come out?! You have tons of technicians, you couldn't route another technician?? NOPE. Now it's 4pm... no call... no nothing. So I call again, and at this point I'm sure they know me well lol. The entire time I'm professional and nice to them trying to find out when they'll come out. The lady advises me the technician has one more call before me but they should be out to me between 4.30 and 5pm. And she reminded me I got a text letting me know they are running behind. SERIOUSLY?! Thanks for reminding me of the text, and never mind you are 5-hours late and your other agents telling me that it won't take much longer. At 5PM, still no word on when the technician will arrive. Giving up, I called and told them to cancel and told them I will look forward to writing this review. Conclusion: Plenty of HVAC companies in the area. I would have happily paid someone else 10 times more (no exaggeration) and it still would have been worth it avoiding the aggravation. read more

My experience with the company was outstanding. After being completely disappointed by another company for AC service this company was very prompt. I called and they were out the same day. The tech was very professional and even had my service charge waived once he found out that this was a second opinion. Their quote for a replacement HVAC was very competitive. On 6 June 2017 we had another great experience with ARS Service Tech Justin Russell. He showed up well within the appointment window but even so was contrite that he hadn't been able to retrieve his messages that morning and hadn't had an opportunity to call ahead with a 30-minute warning. That's simply great service. Justin makes HVAC service really interesting (I'm sure it is in fact generally interesting for a lot of folks). He knows so much about the equipment, the components, the business and the industry. He literally follows HVAC history and industry trends -- last week he explained about new continuously variable "green" systems (in terms of environmental sensitivity and price insensitivity!). Odd to say this but we actually look forward to service appointments. Finally, after leaving the system checked out, clean and topped off with refrigerant, Justin indicated that we'd need to watch one component -- the capacitor that starts motors that run in the outside unit. He projected when it might fail, but even though it's six years old and showing initial signs of weakness, he emphatically did not try to sell us a component that did not yet need replacement. Appreciate ARS' pleasant and helpful customer service, and equally pleasant, helpful and professional service tech Justin. Their annual service plans include a spring and winter maintenance; and though we haven't made any emergency calls yet, I'm confident that if, for example, the AC stopped working that ARS would be there before the house got 5 degrees warmer. Avoid, worst company. A company that does not keep its appointments, sells defective HVAC Units, does not stand by their work. We going to get an attorney to get our HVAC replaced since it was broken from day one. They have attempted to fix the leak in the pipe but instead all they did was just refill and refill with gas. I had used ARS in the past to install our whole house HVAC. Overall that experience was about average, which is good for Northern Virginia. I still have issues with that, but they can never find a problem. LOL. That's really sad that "average" in Northern Virginia is a good thing...goes to show you the little amount of pride and respect companies have in this area, but that's a different story. I called for an estimate, and was told they would have someone out between 3 and 5 on a Friday. Sounded good, and booked the appointment. After I booked this appointment, I had also gone through the Home Depot Website, which it turns out ARS is the authorized installer. 5:30 rolls around, no show, no call. I called them, and The call taker who asks how they can "provide exceptional service today" (providing decent service would be a start) said he would call the tech and ask. The Tech said he was running late (thanks for the call to let us know...NOT) and would be there about 6. 6:30 rolls around and he finally shows up. nice prompt arrival. My wife spoke to him about what we wanted, and even informed him of the system we looked at at Home Depot, a 110V system for a shed. He informed us they wont install that system, and said they would only install a Mitsubishi 220V. The price ended up being about $4700, which was received by text, not email...also VERY unprofessional. I even email ARS after this to inform them of my concerns as a returning customer and ask questions...No response. I will not return to ARS. Maybe I can get them to service the whole house system they installed? Not very hopeful on that...their "guarantees" are not work the paper they are printed on. Very telling their "Customer Service" wont even respond to a returning customer. I am amused by the responses from the company on this site, when they wont even both to reply to an email from a customer. Very telling. ARS talked us into new furnace. Installation a tragedy. Leak in ceiling. Several incompetent people sent who could not address problem. It has been months and unresolved. New AC less than a year old shut down today. Despite paying for a service contract, no one sent to fix. Do not use this company. read more

Stay away from this place they don't know what they are doing. Tech Joe said I needed a control board which was $1700 when it was a compressor problem. Meanwhile it's 100 degrees outside and I will be without ac for another 7 days. After speaking with Bo and the tech Roger. Problem has been fixed. Just a shame it could not be fixed and diagnosed right the first time. I am raising the one star to 3 because I was taken care of. read more

DO NOT buy a maintenance plan from this company. This spring, I made 5 appointments for the semi-annual inspection of my home HVAC system as part of my Home Service Plan. Once the technician called over an hour after the appointment window closed (April 5, 2021). A second time (April 24, 2021) the technician called and said he was surprised that he just got an order to do the inspection at my house as he was involved in a "no heat" situation and was not sure when he could arrive. The third appointment (8 May), no call and nobody showed up. The fourth appointment (5 June) was cancelled the day prior. I presume because all the technicians were on other jobs. The final appointment (17 Jun) was also cancelled the day before. I understand scheduling, priorities for the technicians, and emergencies but I do not understand not getting what I paid for 5 times. read more

Existing customer with service contact. Over a month ago, They call me to schedule spring servicing. We agreed on date/time. The day prior, they call to cancel. Set up another one, they cancelled. Finally this week, on the morning of appt, they cancel. That's 3 times we worked our schedules to honor an appointment, but they didn't. Same reason stated each time - too busy with 'emergencies' . Clearly prioritizing (new?) higher margin business at the expense of existing clients. They say they value their clients but actions speak louder. Search elsewhere. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. ARS installed my AC, furnace and Zoned my system (basement, second fl and third fl). I have had their service contract for at least 10 years. So, I have invested a lot of money into ARS. I had an appointment for an AC Tune up. Needless to say they did not show up and did not call. I told them to kick rocks because they said that they had more important customers (more expensive service calls) than a measly AC Tune up. read more

I have used ARS once before for an estimate to replace an HVAC system...I called them first and they were twice the price for the exact same Rheem system that I had installed by another HVAC company...Couldnt' believe the difference. I should have known not to bite on their recent add for a "AC TUNE - UP" for $59.00. The technician came and was a very pleasant young guy. He looked at my AC without first looking at the inside coils and said I needed a new AC...He said the fan was dirty (HVAC system is only 8 years old) and rather than take the covering off the unit to view or clean the coils, peaked inside thru a quarter inch opening and told me they were dirty/probably leaky and I needed a new AC. I asked him to do a temperature check and he said the difference between the air coming into the AC and leaving it should be about 20 degree difference but that mine was only 12 degrees. I then asked if additional Freon was necessary...He checked and said it needed 2 lbs of Freon or more. He Charged me $380.00 for that plus the $59.00 for the check up...He spent little time looking at AC but just kept saying I needed a new AC and he could have his colleague at my house in an hour for an estimate. After he left I immediately received calls from an ARS estimator....Bottlomline is I saw them scamming me the moment the kid walked in....In speaking with neighbors, they have experienced the same "spring time" scam from ARS when asking for a AC tune up and then being told immediately that they needed a whole new AC AND furnace. What is disheartening is these guys are taking advantage of many people and they knowingly do this...Shame on ARS. read more

My experience with ARS is pretty awful. Got the deal from Angie's list for a furnace tune up and scheduled an appointment. They unfortunately never showed up. There was never a call at the beginning of the day confirming the time. Towards the end of the day, they called and told me they couldn't come cause they got no heat calls that took precedence. We didn't want to turn the heat on either until it's been inspected. So we went without heat for another couple of days till they come. That wasn't the only issue. Since it was a work day, i wasted one of my vacation days on them. The guy who showed up the second time was nice and pointed out all the things that was wrong with the system, he recommended to get a new furnace from ARS and adjusted the gas pressure. He said everything was working fine for now and there was heat. Ever since he left, we had no heat. The flame wouldn't light. I find this a little suspicious. We had the same issue with a blower that takes higher ampage for the past 2 years and there's never been an issue with the flame not lighting. I think it might have to do with the gas pressure he touched. The estimator came the next day to give us a quote on a new machine and they gave us an insane price quote. 8.5k for a bare bones unit. Did research online and the system would have costed 2.5k to purchase. So I guess they valued their install at 6k. Hired someone else who gave a much more reasonable quote. Will never hire these folks again after they potentially broke my furnace and gave me a ridiculous quote. The people were nice but the way they do their business is shady. read more

Last week my property manager contacted ARS Manassas to schedule a HVAC Service appointment for my HVAC system. ARS installed the HVAC system at my property last year. A Service agreement was part of the HVAC installation (in the contract). when my property manager contacted ARS to schedule the appointment, she was informed there was no service agreement in my contract and it would cost $70.00 to conduct the service. Surprised, I contacted ARS to address the issue. A Representative informed me, I did not a service agreement. I informed her, I have a contract that states otherwise. She transferred me to another Representative, who I felt was extremely rude. She was cutting me off during the conversation and ask me to send her a copy of the contract. I expressed my concern, how can she have a copy of a contract that's different than what I have on file. She stated, she would elevate my concern. I was in the process of asking to speak with with a supervisor, but we were disconnect (or someone hung up on me). Later that week, a different Representative contacted me and explained the disconnect between the departments. An appoint is scheduled for later this month, but no one addressed the rude Customer Service. I hope this is not the type relationship I should expect from ARS. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. We had an appointment set from 8am to 12pm and the tech didn't show until 8pm!! After unsuccessful calls a woman finally told us the morning appointment wouldn't happen because they have a mandatory 9am meeting every morning. We waited all day, no communication and no discount for the disrespect. I will be sure to tell everyone of this experience and to go somewhere else. read more

ARS break down their service and sales by county so this is specifically for The Fairfax county team. We had a routine $70 visit set up that turned into a $120 visit rather quickly. I was ok with this except for the sheer dishonesty of the service guy named Alex. (Blonde thinning hair, blue eyes and heavy Eastern European accent). Alex came into our home and told us we needed to completely replace our HVAC and proceeded to do a very cheesy "fear" campaign about how bad our current system was. THEN Alex decided to tell me that our new hot water tank (less than 300 days old) needed replaced because it was old. Very telling. Alex even ignored me when I said " gee can we go back to the original reason you came here"? Fast forward to the next atrocity: The sales guy. He pretty much did everything a bad salesman would do. He would not give me brand options; he refused a written estimate at first and then decided that he would in fact write up an estimate and to make matters worse he made a fake call to his manager and had a fake conversation about me in my presence so that I would be impressed that he got me a better price. Laughable and dishonest. Long story short: We called a big box store and they got the job and quite happily so. Today: I'm at the barber shop where I tell my barber that I just replaced my Hvac. Without a single prompt he says "Tell me you didn't use ARS" and THEN he says "I had this Russian guy named Alex from ARS out and he was so rude and pushy etc etc". My jaw hit the floor. I wasn't expecting validation as to my theory on ARS but now I know this company via the Fairfax team is rotten. Please use your own judgement if you are looking for HVAC and make your own decisions. This was a bad experience and I'm glad it only cost me $120 to learn it. read more

ARS responded quickly to my request for an estimate. They provided a competitive estimate beating out for other local competitors. The technicians were professional and clean while they were working in the unit. They arrived at 9 AM and we're finished by 2:30 PM. They spent time helping me to learn about the new Wi-Fi enabled thermostat as well. Overall I was very satisfied with the price and quality of service provided. read more

All I can say to those rating ARS highly is either you work for them or you got lucky. Interaction with the appointment setter for the service was the best part of my experience with ARS Rescue Rooter. I requested a seasoned professional because I was not satisfied with the hip guy who came out last time because he was rushing and he was not clear about many things-which I chalked up to inexperience with customers. PROS Pleasant appointment setter CONS The tech arrived late and was a newbie (I asked him how long he had been doing this type of work) He seemed to be re-checking things which seemed to be part of his thoroughness, but I surmised he was setting me up and gave me a huge FAST "SCAREY" SELL about how I needed a new A/C unit, that my thermostat was 3 degrees off, etc. It sounded suspicious, but he INSISTED that we were going to have too many problems in the future...NOT! I had these items checked again, and all was -- and is well--nothing needed to be replaced! In my opinion--they are too expensive for the service they provided. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ARS RESCUE ROOTER MANASSAS. I can understand the others who state they feel ripped off and scammed. read more

I feel that that I was ripped off by this place. While I was advised that most likely I needed to replace my heat pump system soon... I felt as though I was kind of misled into agreeing on a $600+ repair that only barely held for more than a couple of weeks. After having another company come out and assess my problem after the system totally broke down (of course during the hottest days of summer so far)... did I know just how bad of shape my heat pump system was in. Multiple additional and specific problems were detailed to me none of which where brought to my attention by ARS. If I had known what I later was told before agreeing to the incredibly expensive (but useless) measures I would have just said to forget it... I would have paid the service call, would have been satisfied with the assessment and would have gone ahead and ordered a new system. When the system first broke down after the ARS repairs I called them to let them know what happened and how much I paid for the repair and they said they would send a repair tech to try to get me up and running again along with a sales person to assess my situation before the end of the day. I waited and waited and waited for the tech and salesperson to show up.. of course they never did nor did I receive at least a phone call telling me they wouldn't make it out or offer an apology for "standing me up". I took a day off work for nothing! The other HVAC company that I'll name in a subsequent review - was incredibly thorough, professional and courteous and provided me with a detailed assessment of the problems with my system... along with estimated prices for repairs. They offered to do the need repairs and weren't necessarily forcing a new system down my throat. But, not wanting to be penny wise, pound foolish, the tech/salesperson (the man did both) sat down with me and made recommendations for a new system... and after researching new systems previously provided me with a great system for an incredibly great price. ARS you blew a multi-thousand dollar sale... you were even given first dibs... I'll never ever let you near my house again... Unfortunately I had to shell out over $600 for that lesson. read more

Previous update: We have a leak in our copper piping and had ARS come over. We explained the problem to them on the phone. When they arrived, they did not have the needed supplies. This is unacceptable since all it it is copper pipe, a supply they should have at all times. They also tried to charge us even with our contract we have with them. Current update: above is still true. When they came back to replace the pipe, they left remnants of the old pipe in our backyard and did not caulk the opening where they entered the wire leaving a hole where rain, ants and other unwanted things could gain access to. read more

Pros - They responded within a day (asked on Friday and they responded on Saturday) They fixed the problem (replaced the dual run capacitor) Cons - The price! I understand that everyone needs to make money. I get it. The worker arrived at 11:56 and was gone less than 40 minutes later. Price breakdown - $89 - to show up $277 - to replace the part $366 total A quick internet search showed that I can get the part for less than $50. Remove and reconnect 4 wires... I can't help but feel that this repair was completely overpriced. Sorry ARS but I won't be using you again. Your prices are outside of my definition of reasonable. read more

Let me start out by saying that I did choose ARS to fix my air conditioning. I have a home warranty through American Home Shield and ARS was the contractor that was assigned to me. This week started the massive heat wave in Northern Virginia (mid to high 90s) so I understand that the AC repair guys are going to be very busy and it may take awhile to get a response. I got a call from ARS to schedule an appointment at 5:07 PM on Tuesday - which I missed by one ring. I immediately called back and no response. I left two messages that night because it was over 90 degrees in my bedroom. I called several times on Wednesday and left three messages. Called AHS to get help getting a response, they said they would call and ask them to call me. Thursday - called multiple times AGAIN and left several messages. No response. Rage ensues - I am sure spurred on by the heat. Called AHS for help, and they put me on hold to call them - no response. They left a message. No response. All I wanted was a response and an appointment. I understand that it is a busy time of year, but I don't think calling me back after three days is out of the question. I called AHS and asked for a new company to be assigned to me. I will NEVER call ARS for maintenance. If AHS ever gives me ARS again I will ask for a different company. read more

**Either there is a huge discrepancy from our experience or many of these 5-stars are FAKE** I concur with a previous post where they don't even recall installing a replacement AC unit. They convinced my mother that her working unit was old and needed a replacement. Less than 2 years later it was broken. From there, they couldn't even give us a simple estimate on-site, probably deferring to the office on how much they were going to gouge you. Finally, two days later, we are given an estimate of $1100. Since the unit is still under warranty, we asked to justify the rate ($100 / hour for 11 hours? $200 / hour for 5.5 hours, the math doesn't work out), conveniently the guy who can explain that left for the day. The icing was that even before all of that, they didn't make their appointment window and the operator tried to blame us for making the appointment last-minute. Each interaction with ARS, from repair estimate, to replacement estimate, to installation, was phenomenal. They owned the experience keeping me informed, checking in on me, and ensuring the quality was as promised. Compared to another service provider who i felt was trying to pull the wool over my eyes and not give me accurate options, ARS made me feel comfortable and confident... Although obnoxious to have one's A/C brake in the middle of the summer ARS made the new one seamless and functional in no time. I highly recommend this team. read more

I was away on business for a week and our HVAC system started tripping the breakers when it would kick on. My in-laws were in town so my father in law called ARS. The tech diagnosed that the system was 25 years old and needed replaced. The house was built in 1991, so seems logical if original. The problem is that the system was replaced in 2005. And the system has the dates of manufacture right on it....fall of 2004. I had 3 other companies check it out. All had the same analysis...compressor cooked...replace is about the same $$ as repair. Since my wife had already paid them a diagnostic fee that would be credited to a replacement, we decided to get one of our four replacement quotes from them. The salesguy quickly and correctly noted the age of the system. I then showed him what his tech had written. He didn't know what to say. The sales guy was nice enough but I felt like I was being sold. He utulized some used car salesman techniques. "Here's the price but I can take off this much if you sign right now." "Let me call my boss and see if we can do better." While on the phone with the boss:"Oh wow, we can really go that low?" "So my GM says, we can take off this much if you sign now and install this weekend." Plus his idea of building rapport with a potential customer was to tell stories about past clients. The system recommendation wasn't the highest or lowest priced of the four. The recommendation seemed about right for our home, as did the others. We chose to go elsewhere based on the people that represented ARS. read more

After doing research, we left the company we had been with for 25 years, and chose ARS to replace one of 2 AC/furnace units, the one needing replacing was in our attic. From everything we read, we thought ARS was a good company. It cost $7000+ for this Carrier unit. They sent a junior crew, who was not experienced. One year later, the unit needed more refrigerant and we were told it probably had a pinhole leak, but the tech (another junior crew member) said they would not be able to find it and made no notes on the paperwork. Alarms bells should have gone off, but my husband and I are not familiar with AC systems. Fast forward 10 months later, we have no AC in a very hot week in late June. We call for a tech, who can't came for 3 days due to July 4 holiday. When he does come, he doesn't go up to the attic, or even say he'll come back when its cooler. He puts a gauge on the outside equipment, says were very low on refrigerant, adds some, notes we probably have a pinhole leak, and to call back ARS, get a re-check and ask for a senior technician. Again, he does not note the pinhole leak or added refrigerant on the paperwork. We take all of the necessary steps he recommends, taking more time off from work. The next tech, a very good one for sure, goes to the attic and finds a rusted unit with a crack!! I go up and take pictures. It needs replacing. The part is under warranty, but ARS wants to charge us $1200+ labor to fix a unit which is less than 2 years old, and for which we paid more than $7000!! We call the service manager, who has been slow to get back to us. It's been nearly 1 month since this fiasco started, and we're still waiting for the service manager to call us back and make this right. We've spoken to him 1 time on July 10. Since then, crickets, nothing, no word. Not acceptable, not impressed. read more

Can't comment on the service or quality of work, they never showed up. I scheduled an appointment with ARS via Home Advisor. About an hour after I scheduled, I called them directly to confirm the appointment, just in case. Confirmed over the phone and via email. Come the appointment time and no one ever arrived. I tried to call several times and got no answer. I finally just gave up. I guess they didn't need my $10,000 installation work. read more

I have had 2 accounts with ARS and had no problem until I signed up for a new contract at my new home. They were scheduled to come 3 separate times in the 8-12 time window and failed to get there in the time frame. One time I called at 8 am to see if I could get a closer time frame and they said my window was 1-5! Two other times they gave me a "courtesy" call at 11:30 and said the technician was running late but they could not tell me how late. In one case, I still hadn't heard from them by 3:00 and when I called they said he was a "little" late. He never came that day. Needless to say I have cancelled all my accounts with them and highly recommend never using this company. read more

UPDATE: phone representatives have gotten to be really nice but scheduling service remains horrible. Rescheduled my annual AC maintenance call 3 times, pushing us 3-4 weeks out each time. We are now scheduled for August. One more reschedule and we don't even need the AC any more thus year. read more

They are the contractor that Home Depot works through when purchasing new AC systems. The guy who came to do the estimate was very courteous, he also was very detailed and explained everything about the types of systems they sell. Even though they're on commission, he recommended a lower-end (but great) model for our townhome. He also showed me how to adjust the damper in our house to set it to summer mode, something that I'd never known could be adjusted. Once we made our decision, they were able to install the next day. The guys showed up a little bit late, but once they were here they did their work quickly and professionally. They also installed our separate Nest Thermostat that we had purchased. The reason for only 4 stars is the lateness and because, although they tested the furnace, they left the pilot light on our water heater off, prompting the need to have them come back and correct that for us. I have used ARS for my HVAC and water heater since I moved into my home 2 years ago. The technical work they do is good. However, the company has been pretty poor with communication, such that when my maintenance agreement runs out next year, I will be looking for another provider. There seems to be poor communication between the office and the techs, appointments get way delayed with no notice, people don't call back when they say they will, HVAC semi-annual servicing doesn't include the very basic service of putting in a new filter... I'm really not interested in dealing with the frustration anymore. Again - the actual technical work has been fine, but trying to deal with the office itself is really problematic. read more

1. I gave them some chances. I have a service plan. They credit my bank every month for Heating and Cooling tune up. Why do I have to call them to schedule an AC tune up? Maybe the company want you to forget so they earn money. 2. It is already June 14. No AC tune up done. I contacted them and they are suppose to come but they did not show up. No one in their office or the three different telephone numbers i called Knew why no one showed up. They simply just forgot. 3. A contractor came here last winter and pointed to me my humidifier. He said it was not on. The only thing I remember was I told him I have service with ARS and he said "they do not know what they are doing" 4. I wanted to cancel my account and get a refund. But it was not that easy. I want to get a confirmation that they are no longer doing business with me and I want my money back. There are plenty of company out there who can do a better job of not forgetting me. read more

We had a new SpacePak AC System installed by ARS of Manassas in November of 2019. We noticed a leak in our bathroom under where the unit was installed in the attic on June 11, 2022. Upon looking in the attic, we saw that the system's condensation drain line had been installed with a bow in it, causing water from the unit to leak back into our house. We of course turned off the AC to avoid further damage and immediately called ARS the next day to have someone come out and repair the system. While we were given an appointment for someone to come to our home four days later, we could never get anyone at ARS of Manassas to speak with us on the phone so we could explain the problem. We called repeatedly and were told each time that the management was in a meeting and would return our call, but they never did. Because we were not able to speak with someone beforehand, the technician that arrived was not aware of the details of our situation and was not prepared to repair the system. Upon inspecting the system, he immediately observed that the system had been installed to the condensation drainpipe incorrectly and that he would need to call another technician out to address the issue. Two and a half hours later the second technician arrived and agreed that the company had installed the system wrong, but also did not know how to fix the issue. Finally, after another two hours, a third technician was called to our home. This technician refused to fix the issue at all and claimed it was not ARS's responsibility to fix their faulty workmanship. After ARS refused to take responsibility, we called a licensed HVAC company to look at the system and how it was installed. This company not only agreed that the system was installed improperly, they also flatly stated that the installation of the system by ARS violated multiple building codes. Worried about the mold from the leak, we had Servpro do an inspection and they confirmed that we did have mold and it was caused by the faulty installation of the system by ARS to the drainpipe. Throughout this entire process we have repeatedly attempted to reach out to ARS so that they can fix the install and address the mold. When we were able to speak with someone at ARS we always received the same response, "someone will call you back within 48 hours." These calls NEVER came. First, we were told by the manager of ARS of Manassas, Marisa, that Paula in quality assurance would call. Nope. Then we were told by Teisha (from the corporate office) that Sybyl Herber, their analyst, would call. Nope, didn't happen. We finally spoke with someone named Tina (service manager), who mistakenly thought we had an unpaid service bill and, after explaining the situation to her, she promised us that Mike Lindsay, the Operational Manager would return our call within 48 hours. Well of course, he also never called. They claim they provide a 100% money back guarantee, but they will not even return your calls or accept responsibility for the damage they 100% caused by their own negligence. We have now been without AC, in 90+ degree weather, for over a month as this process has dragged on. I literally have nothing to recommend about ARS. Their work is so bad as to violate multiple building codes. You can't get anyone on the phone and when you finally do, they refuse to take responsibility for their shoddy work. I would never have expected a company as big as ARS to be so dishonest. read more
