Shanahan's HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical & Remodeling LLC came out right before an impending severe snowstorm and worked in sub-15° weather from 8 AM to 8 PM to uninstall our broken Heat Pump and Air Handler and replace them with a brand new Heat Pump and Air Handler. Simply put: these guys were the best. Incredibly professional, hardworking, and dedicated from start to finish. They didn't rush a single step. They also helped install a new thermostat, made sure everything was running smoothly, and ran all the necessary tests to ensure the system was operating perfectly before they left. But then I did not have any responses for my questions for a week. Maybe, they are busy and did not read my email yet. My AC had been knocked out last week by the storm the night before and was able to arrange an appointment in a reasonable amount of time, Tech arrived on time, and it turned out the issue was just a safety switch on the electrical plug associated with the AC unit. Brought them out to diagnose an HVAC problem. Very nice technicians. Problem was that the interior windowless bedroom would not cool. Various outside temperatures ranged from mid 70's to high 80's. Room would not cool down to less than 71 when temp was set to 69. After 2 visits, was told system was operating properly. Since the room had previously cooled to 69 but had stopped doing so all of a sudden, I considered the problem had not been diagnosed accurately. Simple math refuted their statements that all was fine. Was supposedly given a full report but really did not get that. I was in construction for 12 years and could tell that the nice technicians. I finally got up in the attic and discovered that the problem was air flow to the room. I fixed it myself. At 74, I'm a bit too old for getting into attics but I did it. What these technicians did not understand was that the purpose of an HVAC system is to condition the air in rooms. If the HVAC system checks out, the next step is to check air flow and temperatures in the room itself. That step seemed beyond the capabilities of Shanahan. So, nice technicians, probably good for changing your air filters but for diagnosing a problem, not their strong suit. I would note that after not being able to fix my problem, Shananhan's technicians did send proposals for more work to be done. One of the proposals was about $5,800 for more work. However, because Shanahan was unable to fix the problem I needed fixed, I did not have confidence in their ability to do anything complicated. Finally, and again, the technicians were extremely polite and friendly. That counts for something, I believe. read more

New heat pumps in fall 2025. Promised excellent service. In the current heat wave, after hours I called their main number, service number and emergency number and got zero response. They talk a very good game, but they are very small and unable to meet their service commitments. I strongly recommend you stay away from this firm -- they are understaffed and unable to meet their service plan commitments. Seemed ok at first, but few days after servicing the thermostat stopped working, AC unit making rattling sounds. They never sent me any pictures of my systems as part of the service either even after reaching out to them. It was an expensive service call to begin with and was hoping it would be worth it. After leaving my review, the owner offered to waive the $89 service charge in exchange for an updated review. That's not how this should work. Your service should make me want to update my review. I didn't respond because it was the weekend and I was spending it with my family. The owner then threatened me Monday morning with a mechanics lien for the unpaid service charge (which I hadn't paid because the invoice went to spam). I told him he should waive the service fee because I was unhappy with the outcome, not because I left a poor review. I told him that if he waived the fee, I'd leave my review untouched (which certainly wasn't a glowing endorsement, but I felt accurate to the situation) however if he kept threatening me, I would update my review. I'm here updating my review, so I guess you can figure out what happened. More threats of accruing interest and a mechanics lien (which he couldn't have filed anyhow). I could have taken the easy route and updated the review and saved $89 but the fee was paid, and my review stands. This interaction left me questioning the validity of their rating. read more

They were great! Very responsive and quick to come out. Elijah was our technician and he walked me through what he was doing with the unit. He talked through some of the steps he was doing and what would typically cause the problems we were having. He ran step by step testing and found the issues and was able to fix and resolve them right there. He also gave good tips on normal maintenance we could/should do on a regular basis ourselves! He fixed our condensate waste pipe, got our heater functioning again, and fixed a floor vent piping that had broken. Great customer service, knowledge, and execution. Highly recommend! read more

Were able to correctly, diagnose the problem that I was having and fixed my boiler. The workers were professional and courteous.

I hired Shanahan's to install an "Air Scrubber," an UV light ionizer that is mounted into the existing HVAC duct above the heating coils and adjacent to the humidifier that is also mounted on the ductwork. I was concerned about possible mold spores from the humidifier as well as other pathogens that may be contributing my coughing and sneezing; the Air Scrubber is supposed to reduce allergens and other contaminants. It is too early to tell if it is making a difference, but I am hoping for the best as it is a pricey addition. I was going to have a new media filter system installed too, but canceled the job because I want to see if the ionizer makes any difference in my home. The technician, Elijah, was on time, personable, respectful, and installed the ionizer efficiently. read more

AC Unit stopped working Thursday evening. I put in a request and CD Shanahan reached out that evening. A gentlemen named Elijah showed up by 9am Friday morning and replaced the capacitor within 30 minutes. Checked that the AC ran and blew 50 degree air and fixed all issues. He even noted that' my other unit looked good and that the units filters were clean. Great service. I can't complain because of how efficient they were but the price to replace at $490 did seem high but to have someone how so quickly and provide really reliable, white glove service it was worth it. We have been customers for 3 years and generally found them reliable and fair. However, most recently when our AC stopped working, they sent someone quickly, but charged us over $800 for an emergency repair (where the part was about $20 at retail value). We paid it thinking the problem would go away, but the system shut down again five days later due to a "slow leak" that was not detected in the original diagnosis. The technician was nice and professional, but ultimately we were facing an additional $4K repair or a new system. Given our current system was already 15 years old, we opted for a new system and asked for estimates. While they provided 4 estimates, one product stood out as competitively priced for the efficiency standards and quality. As we were about to approve the purchase of the unit (which included a discount to offset the $800 error described above), in the fine print of the estimate, we noticed that the refrigerant was listed as R410A. Because we had just consulted with multiple HVAC companies that had cautioned against this refrigerant and its future availability/serviceability, we researched online and confirmed that it was banned from production by the EPA beginning this year (2025). Furthermore, new systems that relied on R410A were banned from production, which explains the relatively low price, given retailers needed to offload these obsolete systems. We were disappointed in the lack of transparency as most consumers would not be able to identify refrigerants and the associated regulatory prohibitions by name. We had obtained estimates from 4 other companies, none of which tried to sell us systems reliant on the obsolete refrigerants. Bottom line is, if you use CD Shanahan's, make sure you do your independent research on the product. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. read more

The first time was in August 2024, when I needed a last-minute furnace inspection to stay compliant with my condo association. They came out the very next day, got it inspected, and saved me from a potential mess with the association. More recently, my air conditioning stopped working. Once again, C.D. Outstanding communication!! Our gas furnace stopped blowing warm air. I reached out to CD Shanahan's based on their reviews on Yelp. I sent a message through Yelp and received a response almost immediately. I did not classify as an emergency, so a service visit was scheduled for the next morning. Promptly at the prescribed time, Jimmy, the HVAC tech arrived. Text messaging and email was used to send confirmations and updates. Jimmy was very professional. What I like most is that he clearly communicated points about our unit. (It's pretty old.) He quickly identified the issue-a faulty igniter. Thankfully, the universal igniter he had on his truck was appropriate and he was able to install very quickly. He finished the job within 30 minutes. He explained everything in language that was easy to understand and answered all my questions. In addition, we discussed other services CD Shanahan's can offer. The heat started coming out the vents and I was very pleased. Additional communication from office staff regarding payment was also very easy and professional. We have a service agreement with C.D. Shanahan's for our HVAC. Our previous service was provided by Climate, and they were excellent, but John C. Flood bought them and JCF is just terrible. Having said that, C.D. Shanahan's is actually better than Climate! The service agreement costs slightly less, and the technical knowledge of their crew is at least as good as Climate, probably better (and that's saying something). The thing that really stands out though, is the customer service. C.D Shanahan's is so customer-centric. At times I think that I may be their only customer because they are so responsive. I needed to have my ducts cleaned, and this company was helpful my questions and addressing my concerns so I will give them credit for that. I've had duct cleaning done at a previous home , so I'm familiar wigh the procesw and price points. Having recently moved to Virginia, I need to have my ducta cleaned before moving in. CD Shanahans was the first company I contacted. They quoted me almost $1400 to clean two systems. I was planning to have them cleaned the ducts as timing was an essence. However I'm glad I did my due diligence. I called 4 othet local companies in the area and was quotes $650-$800. I can't reccomend a company who over charges homeowners by more than double of the competitors for rhe same service. Needless to say i wont be going with them. read more

Connor gave me recommendations regarding my existing system - truth be told he said I could keep running it until it failed, that it wasn't an emergency that had to be dealt with now (but it would be then) - and then went over options available to replace it which I'll call good-better-best. All via text and phone calls because I was on the road traveling for work when this went down. I was trying to get an estimate for new HVAC. The office seemed pretty responsive for scheduling the consultation and communicative about ETA. The technician that came out to look at our stuff was pretty knowledgeable and listened to our concerns. He took notes and was attentive to our needs. The issue I had was that he said I would get a quote from him within an hour but never got an email or text back from them.
