I had an excellent experience with Trademasters - Plumbing Division -- yesterday. The technician was Edward King. He arrived right on time, put on shoe covers before entering my home, and was very polite. He diagnosed the problem with my garbage disposal and asked if I wanted him to repair it or replace it. Since it was 9 years old, I chose to have the disposal replaced. Mr. King did so efficiently and neatly and also adjusted the water filter on my kitchen faucet to give a better stream! There was no mess to clean up at all when he finished, which I really appreciated. I have had other experiences with Tradmasters -- installing my last two heat pumps, correcting bathtub overflow valve, commodes not filling, and then the disposal. The pilot light in my tenant's water heater wouldn't stay lit so I called Trademasters to take a look. They came by, took a look, and said I needed to replace the entire water heater and sent me a quote for nearly $3,000, even after I suggested that it was the thermocouple that needed replacing. So, I went to Home Depot, bought a $13 thermocouple, and had the repair done by someone else. Pilot stays lit, water heater works perfectly, saved thousands. So basically, I paid Trademasters to come by and quote me on an unnecessary replacement job. Total scam. I have been using Trademasters for my annual AC and heating inspections but this completely unjustified recommendation to replace a perfectly fine water heater has made me lose all trust in the company. Worst experience with a contractor in our lives and that is saying a lot since we have lived through major remodeling. Trademasters poorly installed a very expensive "top of the line " trane system and we had continuous problems requiring repeated service calls with varying degrees of incompetent technicians. Dave the owner was friendly on the phone but only TWO months after install and we had no heat when it was 19 degrees outside, Trademasters tech refused to come until we gave him a credit card number over the phone for the emergency service call. System was under warranty but we never received our money back. Even worse, we continued to have problems with no heat on this brand new system until we gave up and we hired another company to fix their poor installation. We have since been told by two different companies that in addition to the faulty install, the entire system was grossly oversized for our house (usually used in commercial buildings) resulting in very high utility bills. After a few years we ended up cutting our losses and scrapped the whole thing with an appropriately sized model. Hiring Trademasters was a very, very expensive mistake. read more

i had a good experience with Trademasters about 10 years ago at another of my homes. That time i had a local dishonest technician trying to sell me an entire a/c system. I wanted a second opinion and Trademasters checked my system recharged it with dye to look for leaks and it lasted past when i sold the house 6 years later. This time American Home Shield was supposed to take care of my a/c and they sent out a crooked technician to install the cheapest crappy equipment and i would pay 95% of this repair so i would not let them touch my house. To be more specific, I had installed a new system with "TradeMasters "about two years ago in my condo . I did not have enough heat throughout in the winter and now , no cold air. After two visits from them with no good results, I finally called and hired "Kraft" company and they told me there are two things wrong from the original installation and they must be corrected and they gave me an estimate. I approached TradeTmasters to come and correct their faulty installation . They came and gave me an estimate about twice as the other company. I'm giving Trademasters five stars thanks to the five-star service we received. We recently had our ancient (and dead) HVAC unit replaced by this company and the quality of work was excellent! Also, the staff worked with a high level of professionalism. From our initial estimate meeting with Shane, I was very comfortable with his knowledge and was confident that they could do the job, which wasn't and easy one due to the age of our previous unit and the orientation of it. Shane gave a competitive quote and we decided on Trademasters largely due to his understanding of the situation and his experience. The staff worked from 7 am to 4 pm. It was an all-day job, but they got the work done earlier than previously estimated. Safety precautions were definitely taken and the technicians kept their masks on for the duration of the work, which alleviated any concerns. Once that air conditioning kicked it, relief was granted! The person answering the phone was always helpful and friendly, and the technician arrived within the time window. He did a careful job checking everything and taught me some things about my units. Trademaster's provided us high quality HVAC expertise and advice that we needed and felt comfortable relying upon. We needed a second opinion on the safety of a furnace in the house we were renting. After smelling gas, Washington Gas came out and posted a Red Tag on furnace line due to hazard. Landlady sent someone out who looked at the unit for 5 minutes, and told us it was fine. We needed a company to come out and do a thorough, by-the-book, evaluation of the unit to inform us on why it was or was not safe. We picked Trademasters from the list of "Quality Assured" businesses maintained by the Air Conditioning Contractor's Association (ACCA). When we scheduled the appointment, I was assured that our HVAC specialist would be hold a Master tradesman license (which is not required in Virginia, but a sign of advanced training and expertise). Technician AJ came out and spent almost 2 hours going through all aspects of the furnace, and explained each step to us as he worked. We learned a lot about how the furnace works, what are the indications failure that can be see visually, and what can be inferred by operational signs (heat temperature differentials, gas measurements, shut down cycles, etc). He also called up the manufacturer to determine what service advisories and warranty were associated with that model/serial #. We got a written report that was detailed. When the furnace was subsequently replaced, we took pictures of the primary and secondary heat exchangers. It was just as described by AJ, damaged by heat stress and corrosion. So I had my air conditioner and water heater inspection per my condo rules. 12 months ago I was told my coolant was low and leaking and I should consider a replacement, which I'm more likely to believe. Today a guy came out (and honestly I don't think he ever inspected the ac unit because I didn't see him go back behind the building) and he says nothing is wrong with it. Huh? Did it fix itself? Did my coolant refill itself?! Either the first guy lied or this new guy has no idea what he's doing. Either way, I won't be renewing my agreement. I want a company that provides consistent and reliable service every time, regardless of which representative is sent to my home. I needed a full HVAC replacement in my ~2000 square foot condo. External condenser, internal evaporator, furnace and blower. I live on the top floor(s) of my building, so the install also required a crane to get the condenser up to the roof. Shane was very friendly when he came out for the initial inspection and estimate. He explained everything in thorough, but layman, detail so I knew exactly what was going to be done, I understood the scope of work, and even recent legislation that required specific system choices (type of refrigerant, etc). The workers were very efficient, friendly, and professional. They laid down tarps to cover all of the carpets they had to walk on and/or work around. Even when I had the door propped open if the 'outside' guy (the one working on the condenser) had to come inside, he'd still knock. Once finished they walked me through the manuals, guides, etc for the system. They showed me the emergency cut-off and moisture cutoff systems they installed. Showed me how to clean the u-bend they installed for the condensate...basically walked me through the whole care and feeding of the system. I got multiple quotes from HVAC vendors around NoVa, Trademasters weren't the cheapest, they were close, but they were also the most professional, seemed the most interested in forming a business relationship with me, and were the highest recommended....a recommendation I now share and freely provide. read more

Okay, I have to give these guys the best review there is. We had a problem with our AC that happened in March. Home warranty company sent 3 different companies ALL three gave us different problems, tried to "fix" things while basically destroying our AC unit as a result. our neighbor recommended Trademasters. I called and Dan came out the next day and checked our unit. He was very quiet and professional. He took his time and checked everything and ended up telling me what the actual problems were. He also recommended replacing the whole system since the problem was more severe than I was informed by 3 other companies(each tried to solve the problem by fixing the parts). Note this was already in June. We decided to get a quote to see how much it would cost to replace the system. Sean their sales rep came out and gave us the best offer he could without trying to upsell his product. He left me with the pile of information to read including the recommendations. He also made sure to accommodate us if we decided to go with the installment of new system since it was the busy time they were booked out three weeks in advance, but he understood our situation having a small child and a dog and they prioritized us. They came out within three days of our decision and installed new system, provided certification and inspection instructions. The city inspector came out checked everything and everything looked great. I just can't thank them enough. I didn't realize that many HVAC and plumbing firms PAY their technicians a commission on what they sell in your home. Once I learned that ... it explained a lot about the vendors I didn't like. Trademasters has salaried employees who are dedicated to their profession and work to provide you with the right solution for your home and budget. When I asked about putting in a NEST, my technician shared with me the pluses and minuses and spent the time making sure I understood my choices. When the heater just failed, they got someone here to take care of our issue within hours (it was a really cold day.) Have been using Trademasters for years. They've always been dependable and perform quality work. Most of the technicians have been courteous, friendly, and informative with respect to explaining the work they are doing and why. They always come in with shoe protectors when working inside the house. When one of the A/C compressors died outside, we elected to replace both Comfortmaker HVAC systems original to our house with two new, more efficient Trane systems installed by Trademasters. They aren't the lowest priced, but they've always been fair and reasonable on price, and given the quality of workmanship and good people Trademasters sends to our home, I've never hesitated renewing the service agreement with them each year. read more

My husband and I had an EXCELLENT experience with Trademasters...specifically with the technician R.J. Our 2012 HVAC heat pump has been giving us trouble for over a year. First, it was freezing up. Once that issue was fixed (by another company), it was making an incredibly loud noise after the defrost cycle. We had one of the five star rated (on yelp) companies come out to look at it. The technician diagnosed it as a failing reverse value, stated the cost to replace it would be $950 plus parts, and recommended we buy a new unit from him instead for $2300. We contacted Trademasters to get a second opinion. Ashley was willing to give us a quote over the phone unlike some of the other companies we called. She provided an estimate of $400 (including Freon) plus parts to replace the valve and said they would do their own investigation free of charge. When R.J. came to our home, he took the time to listen to our concerns and then thoroughly investigated the issue despite the freezing temperatures outside. He determined that the cause was from a failed solenoid not the reversing value. He then went to get the part for us that morning and returned an hour later to fix the heat pump. In total, the fix was only $175 for labor (part was under warranty). Our heat pump is now running perfectly and no longer disturbing us or our neighbors. THANK YOU R.J.!!! read more

Have used for several years. Service of 2 systems including filters was $189.00 for 2016, 2017 and 2018. We have invoices, inspections reports and receipts. The tech wrote on the inspection reports that 2 systems were inspected and filters were included. This year we were told the company was not aware that we had 2 systems and that filters were not included. Price for exact same service this year was $501.00!! Needless to say; we are changing companies. Too bad the tech this year, Gabriel Monzon was the best we have seen. read more
