ARS responded quickly to my request for an estimate. They provided a competitive estimate beating out for other local competitors. The technicians were professional and clean while they were working in the unit. They arrived at 9 AM and we're finished by 2:30 PM. They spent time helping me to learn about the new Wi-Fi enabled thermostat as well. Overall I was very satisfied with the price and quality of service provided. read more

Had an appointment from 3-5pm today to give me an estimate for replacing my HVAC which has died. I waited and waited. They were a no show/no call. No excuse for that from anyone. I think this an indicator of what else might follow. Wouldn't use them. read more

Each interaction with ARS, from repair estimate, to replacement estimate, to installation, was phenomenal. They owned the experience keeping me informed, checking in on me, and ensuring the quality was as promised. Compared to another service provider who i felt was trying to pull the wool over my eyes and not give me accurate options, ARS made me feel comfortable and confident... Although obnoxious to have one's A/C brake in the middle of the summer ARS made the new one seamless and functional in no time. I highly recommend this team. read more

I've had a preventive maintenance plan with ARS for over 11 years now. The technicians are always on time and very professional. If they are running late they usually call. They are quick, explain any issues that I may have and provide great remedies but not pushy with those remedies. I plan to keep using ARS and very satisfied with the service I receive. read more

After doing research, we left the company we had been with for 25 years, and chose ARS to replace one of 2 AC/furnace units, the one needing replacing was in our attic. From everything we read, we thought ARS was a good company. It cost $7000+ for this Carrier unit. They sent a junior crew, who was not experienced. One year later, the unit needed more refrigerant and we were told it probably had a pinhole leak, but the tech (another junior crew member) said they would not be able to find it and made no notes on the paperwork. Alarms bells should have gone off, but my husband and I are not familiar with AC systems. Fast forward 10 months later, we have no AC in a very hot week in late June. We call for a tech, who can't came for 3 days due to July 4 holiday. When he does come, he doesn't go up to the attic, or even say he'll come back when its cooler. He puts a gauge on the outside equipment, says were very low on refrigerant, adds some, notes we probably have a pinhole leak, and to call back ARS, get a re-check and ask for a senior technician. Again, he does not note the pinhole leak or added refrigerant on the paperwork. We take all of the necessary steps he recommends, taking more time off from work. The next tech, a very good one for sure, goes to the attic and finds a rusted unit with a crack!! I go up and take pictures. It needs replacing. The part is under warranty, but ARS wants to charge us $1200+ labor to fix a unit which is less than 2 years old, and for which we paid more than $7000!! We call the service manager, who has been slow to get back to us. It's been nearly 1 month since this fiasco started, and we're still waiting for the service manager to call us back and make this right. We've spoken to him 1 time on July 10. Since then, crickets, nothing, no word. Not acceptable, not impressed. read more

Can't comment on the service or quality of work, they never showed up. I scheduled an appointment with ARS via Home Advisor. About an hour after I scheduled, I called them directly to confirm the appointment, just in case. Confirmed over the phone and via email. Come the appointment time and no one ever arrived. I tried to call several times and got no answer. I finally just gave up. I guess they didn't need my $10,000 installation work. read more

I have had 2 accounts with ARS and had no problem until I signed up for a new contract at my new home. They were scheduled to come 3 separate times in the 8-12 time window and failed to get there in the time frame. One time I called at 8 am to see if I could get a closer time frame and they said my window was 1-5! Two other times they gave me a "courtesy" call at 11:30 and said the technician was running late but they could not tell me how late. In one case, I still hadn't heard from them by 3:00 and when I called they said he was a "little" late. He never came that day. Needless to say I have cancelled all my accounts with them and highly recommend never using this company. read more

UPDATE: phone representatives have gotten to be really nice but scheduling service remains horrible. Rescheduled my annual AC maintenance call 3 times, pushing us 3-4 weeks out each time. I have used ARS for my HVAC and water heater since I moved into my home 2 years ago. The technical work they do is good. However, the company has been pretty poor with communication, such that when my maintenance agreement runs out next year, I will be looking for another provider. There seems to be poor communication between the office and the techs, appointments get way delayed with no notice, people don't call back when they say they will, HVAC semi-annual servicing doesn't include the very basic service of putting in a new filter... I'm really not interested in dealing with the frustration anymore. Again - the actual technical work has been fine, but trying to deal with the office itself is really problematic. read more

1. I gave them some chances. I have a service plan. They credit my bank every month for Heating and Cooling tune up. Why do I have to call them to schedule an AC tune up? Maybe the company want you to forget so they earn money. 2. It is already June 14. No AC tune up done. I contacted them and they are suppose to come but they did not show up. No one in their office or the three different telephone numbers i called Knew why no one showed up. They simply just forgot. 3. A contractor came here last winter and pointed to me my humidifier. He said it was not on. The only thing I remember was I told him I have service with ARS and he said "they do not know what they are doing" 4. I wanted to cancel my account and get a refund. But it was not that easy. I want to get a confirmation that they are no longer doing business with me and I want my money back. Awful customer service. The worst! These guys are unbelievabley disrespectful of your time. And I'm on the maintenance contract for five years. Three weeks ago I waited all day for a maintenance visit. I took off work. They call me after I'd waited all day to say they can't make it. It took three weeks to get it rescheduled. I rescheduled it to today, again I take off the whole day from work. They just called me 6:15 pm that they can't make it - again. Two whole wasted days I took off from work, and they didn't show. I would give negative stars if I could. Unless you WANT to be out of heat for 10 DAYS as they fail to repair the issue and blow the system a second time. Then fail to order the part to fix it the second time such that you are out of heat on the most bitter cold days in the last several years, AND fail to call back ANY of the times they promise to, AND charge you $485 to replace a part under WARRANTY, (and don't actually fix it) I wouldn't recommend calling this company. We had a new SpacePak AC System installed by ARS of Manassas in November of 2019. We noticed a leak in our bathroom under where the unit was installed in the attic on June 11, 2022. Upon looking in the attic, we saw that the system's condensation drain line had been installed with a bow in it, causing water from the unit to leak back into our house. We of course turned off the AC to avoid further damage and immediately called ARS the next day to have someone come out and repair the system. While we were given an appointment for someone to come to our home four days later, we could never get anyone at ARS of Manassas to speak with us on the phone so we could explain the problem. We called repeatedly and were told each time that the management was in a meeting and would return our call, but they never did. Because we were not able to speak with someone beforehand, the technician that arrived was not aware of the details of our situation and was not prepared to repair the system. Upon inspecting the system, he immediately observed that the system had been installed to the condensation drainpipe incorrectly and that he would need to call another technician out to address the issue. Two and a half hours later the second technician arrived and agreed that the company had installed the system wrong, but also did not know how to fix the issue. Finally, after another two hours, a third technician was called to our home. This technician refused to fix the issue at all and claimed it was not ARS's responsibility to fix their faulty workmanship. After ARS refused to take responsibility, we called a licensed HVAC company to look at the system and how it was installed. This company not only agreed that the system was installed improperly, they also flatly stated that the installation of the system by ARS violated multiple building codes. Worried about the mold from the leak, we had Servpro do an inspection and they confirmed that we did have mold and it was caused by the faulty installation of the system by ARS to the drainpipe. Throughout this entire process we have repeatedly attempted to reach out to ARS so that they can fix the install and address the mold. When we were able to speak with someone at ARS we always received the same response, "someone will call you back within 48 hours." These calls NEVER came. First, we were told by the manager of ARS of Manassas, Marisa, that Paula in quality assurance would call. Nope. Then we were told by Teisha (from the corporate office) that Sybyl Herber, their analyst, would call. Nope, didn't happen. We finally spoke with someone named Tina (service manager), who mistakenly thought we had an unpaid service bill and, after explaining the situation to her, she promised us that Mike Lindsay, the Operational Manager would return our call within 48 hours. Well of course, he also never called. They claim they provide a 100% money back guarantee, but they will not even return your calls or accept responsibility for the damage they 100% caused by their own negligence. We have now been without AC, in 90+ degree weather, for over a month as this process has dragged on. I literally have nothing to recommend about ARS. Their work is so bad as to violate multiple building codes. You can't get anyone on the phone and when you finally do, they refuse to take responsibility for their shoddy work. I would never have expected a company as big as ARS to be so dishonest. read more

They were the last quote of 4 providers. I completely threw one quote out because the owner/sales person didn't seem to want my business. They did come down on their price to match my best quote for the same components. The installers were thorough and reviewed everything with me prior to leaving, including care. They even made a vent adjustment which was not part of the contract. The proof will be in the long term operation of the system. read more

The absolute worse service. Contacted ARS on a Friday to schedule AC service- I was given a Sunday 7am-12 noon window. No show, no call. I got a call at 12:30 that they had to reschedule for Tuesday- the tech on the phone-"You can't believe how many people do not have heat and AC today!" My new appoint was for Tuesday and I opted for the noon-6pm window. You got it- no show, no. call. I got a call at 7:15pm from another tech who said it was a really, really busy day and that I was last on the list can he come over in a half hour. I should have moved on but I said yes. The tech showed up at 7:50 and knocked on the door- I grabbed my Covid19 mask and headed downstairs to open the door. No tech. Gone in 60 seconds. After one knock and less than a minute later he was on his way. 2 appointments, 12 wasted hours on 2 separate days waiting for this guy and he is gone in 2 minutes. Was it too much to reschedule at 8am day one when they realized too busy? Do you think they could have made an effort to prioritize people who were stood up and rescheduled? Do you think they could have called anytime between 12 noon and 6pm to let me know they are too busy for the second time? So who would even use this company after that? Why would I even pay for this type of service. Don't waste your time. Call someone who knows how to treat customers- or at the minimum can be dependable. You've been warned. The worst company, period! read more

Don't call this company for any service. Customer service is horrible. They don't work on weekends and when you call for service they don't give you a time frame on arrival . When the technician says he's arriving shortly , it's 1 1/2 hrs later . The first thing he says is " you know it's 120.00 just for coming out " then quickly says the bill will be 500.00 for extra service. When I ask related questions to why a 3 yo ac unit needs Freon , he seems disgusted to even answer. I contacted the builder to make them aware and hopefully they won't use this company in other homes they build. Added info - I just noticed they advertise 24 hr service , I called on Sunday and they said they don't work Sunday's ! Wow . Worst service ever. I called ARS for an issue with my AC not getting cold. The technician came out and charged me $89.00 for a diagnosis that was not accurate. The technician was only there for about 30 mins, never opened up the panel on the outside AC unit. He said it was low on refrigerant and that it was low because it was leaking. He gave me prices to fix everything, which was very expensive. I called another company to get a second opinion. The second Company came out and did a full inspection, and determined that there was no leak. There was also a broken wire that was discovered when they opened up the panel on the outside AC unit, which ARS never even checked. ARS was just trying to sell me a brand new unit rather than take the time to do a full inspection and fix the issues. Do not recommend ARS unless you want to pay a lot of money for a new unit when there is a good chance it just needs small repairs and a tune up. read more

Our comfort specialist, Mark (i.e., sales person / points person) was great. None of this is his fault. But, the rest of the team here is lazy and/or technically deficient - but, unless you, yourself as a consumer, is thorough, you won't be able to tell everything is SHIT until you get your power bill, smell things burning, thermostats go haywire, etc. I had the following work done w/ problems I've had. 1. furnace replacement - after rerouting AC line, AC line leaked. AC also froze and probably stressing the blower (see #3) - C wire to thermostat not wired - causing thermostat to turn off occasionally. 2. new duct work to a room + install vent in the ceiling - shotty vent install - 80% of air going to area above the ceiling - pieces of drywall / tapes everywhere after the work 3. install a slot for a filter - shotty work causing filter to fall through completely, plus having 1in spaces left and right of the filter - causing dust to go though. I had to run without filter for 1 week - until they came to redo. By then the furnace was full of dust / pieces of carpet, etc. - probably caused the new blower to emit burning smell. Literally - the tech found pieces of carpet inside the furnace. They did eventually replace the blower, which solved the problem. 4. rewire humidifier from cold line to hot line. - water leak from the connection. - then the next crew complained that they had to fix water heater leak from the hot water tap for free... "i had to tell them 3 times that it was ARS who did the piping to the water heater. 5. Forgot to send permit application until I inquired. 6. Also, the initial install session left the area filthy - with carpets stained, and hvac closet littered with wrappers, packaging materials, loose screws. Each time they came to "fix", the area was always left dirty with cut/stripped wires, left over screws. Not very professional. 7. One crew complained that the drain pipes were in the way of the panel making it difficult/impossible to remove and close. He told me it was a shotty install and that he will get ars to redo the drain pipes. The guy came to fix now insists that it's not a shotty install because all it needs to access the furnace panel is to cut the drain pipes everytime. What??? One more issue - I'm taking advantage of their money back guarantee. If that happens - I'll let you know how they respond. Typed on an iPhone. read more

I talked to this company early in the morning before they came which was not until the end of the day around 5pm. They send a tech that did not have the part to my furnace or did he even bother to do a real diagnostic since I told him I had one done but he charged me for a diagnostic anyway. Then to add insult to injury he pulls up on my gasoline in the utility room for leverage since he could not pull himself directly off the floor while checking and investigating the unit. Install Team (Marty and Gary) for a new HVAC system did a fine job. Timely, efficient, polite, got it all working fine and provided good instructions. All was good on Wednesday Unfortunately, a part in the new air handler failed the next evening (Thurs). ARS supervisor Steve was forward thinking enough to take the extra step and acquire a part from another air handler (same model number) in the shop and get it to a tech to bring over to the house. But once opened up the air handler, by manipulating some wire connections, all seemed to be solved. One might have thought the install team messed up, but no, not the case, because the air handler failed again on Friday evening! I disconnected/ reconnected the wires this time (cuz it was 10:30 pm), and called ARS messaging service saying I wanted someone to come on Saturday. ARS messaging said someone would call soon the shop opened at 8 am. So on Saturday, I've got heat in the morning, and no call. I have to call back multiple times, because they never called me back. I gave them a list of parts from the install manual that I wanted the tech to bring, because i didn't want this to be a multi-trip deal. And yeah, the unit FAILED AGAIN around 2:30! So that's three times in 3 days since install. Tech finally arrives at 6:30 pm (never got a heads up that he was coming), and he replaces the part with the one still in his truck from Thursday night. Says he should have replaced it right away that night, instead of just guessing that the wire connections were the problem. Ya think?! nice enough guy, but really let me down. By the way, my salesman was supposed to call me this past Wednesday, to follow up with me since I'd alerted him on Saturday that I was way unhappy. We texted on Saturday and Monday, and we were supposed to talk on Wednesday. Going to have to follow up there... read more

Pros: thorough, trustworthy, effective Cons: on the pricier side than, say, a local handyman Had ARS for two separate issues in the same day, two different techs - Joe to look at HVAC and Rene to do a water heater flush. Both were professional and thorough. Our HVAC unit is super old but still works. Joe showed me everything, explained what was old, and what was likely to fail first. He didn't push me to replace it immediately, like so many other places, but instead gave me the information I needed to make an informed decision and let me know the cost/benefits of replacing soon versus waiting a while longer. Rene came out shortly thereafter for a water heater flush. He noted a few other things that needed to be replaced, like a leaky connection to my washing machine nozzles and the water heater drain (which was leaking). I had him fix a few few and left the others (not as pressing) for later. He didn't try to pressure any up-selling, or convince me I needed a new water heater. While the ARS prices are not the cheapest, they did good work, and I wasn't feeling pressured to do extra. read more

I have been asked by ARS to remove my previous reviews, but am reluctant to do so...while ARS has finally accepted responsibility for and corrected their mistakes, it doesn't change the fact that our experience with this company was awful at the local level and only when my ex husband contacted their corporate office did we get any kind of service and resolution to the problem ARS "technicians" created. After contacting corporate, appt was set for technician to come out and get model/serial numbers off unit for new compressor to be ordered...even though Mike Lindsey had sent someone 3 weeks earlier to do just this...? Guy shows up, appt window time of 10 to 2 with intention of doing repair...? So my ex husband had intended going to work, as the guy was just suppose to be getting numbers off unit to order new compressor...luckily he had not left for work yet and was able to stay and oversee this technicians attempts. Curiously, technician had new compressor for our unit with him...? Yet initially after doing his "evaluation" concluded our existing compressor was fine...? Again, my ex husband, an IT engineer, not an HVAC person, pointed out that the compressor was making odd noise that it didn't before ARS became involved. Eventually, technician heard noise as well and agreed compressor had been damaged by previous ARS technician over charging system and needed replacement. We were not expecting unit to be replaced at this time as we were told this technician was only coming out to get numbers off unit and we had shopping and packing to do for vacation we were to leave for the next morning, but as it was in the high 90's and we'd been without AC for several days already, we gave the go ahead for work to be done and my ex husband missed another day of work due to this ARS/AC nightmare. It's hard to find something positive to say about our experience with ARS...yes we now have AC, they did EVENTUALLY replace the compressor they broke, but giving only a 1 year warranty on the "new unit" they provided... I can't change the fact that I would not use this company again or recommend it to others. Frankly, I feel they should have been bending over backward to make things right, to apologize and offer compensation of some sort for all the trouble, frustration, lost time from work and days with no AC in those TEMPS. I think a LIFETIME WARRANTY on AC for as long as my ex husband lives in house would be absolutely appropriate! Guess I'm still angry at how we were treated at the local level. read more

We used ARS's services from 2004 - 2012, thinking they were of professional caliber with some integrity. While we did encounter one or two technicians who seemed to embody some of these characteristics, overall I give them and F for their performance. Case 1: we hired ARS to install a whole-house steam humidifier. When I asked what the "auto" switch on the control panel did, the technician--and I use that term loosely--said something to the effect, "You don't need that." A couple of years later, after doing some belated research, I learned that the humidifier kit included an outdoor temperature sensor, which the ARS guys did not bother to install. As a result, during the winter, our windows would collect a lot of condensation, which unchecked would have damaged our windows. Case 2: An ARS technician told us that one of our a/c condenser coils had failed and that we would need to replace it soon. He then applied some pressure to try to get us to commit to a follow-up appointment with a salesman to buy two complete systems for several thousands of dollars. That prompted us to get a second opinion from another company, which found that the system is perfectly fine. In short, ARS--with some exceptions--can't be trusted. read more

Well I am not quite ready to write a long review. My new HVAC was installed about a week ago and works ok so far. The two techs were very nice and worked hard but they left their tape spool and left the pipe that takes water from the water heater in case of overflow supported by a plastic dish! Yes dish. I think the pipe is dislodged and want a tech to come take a look. Then they left a piece of insulation hanging where they should have securely taped it. I have just made a call and hope they willl get in touch tomorrow. I don't want problems that some of these yelp reviewers have had with this company. I hope I can give them better stars later. This will determine if I willl have my water heater replaced by them in the future. Ok. New tech came today on time and fixed all problems. Explained some questions and took pics of contract and water heater and damages to the plastic water dish beneath and the water pipe to siphon off excess should the water heater leak. I am very inclined to have ARS REPLACE THE WATER HEATER NOW AND I AM GIVING THEM 5 stars read more

I have had a great relationship for over 10 yrs and 3 systems installed. Do not use ARS! Over a year ago, we purchased a complete new HVAC system for our home. This system, costing $16,671.00, has never worked properly. We chose ARS because they are a national company that we though would stand behind their products and service. They are also a Carrier Factory Authorized dealer which means they must meet meticulous national standards. Instead, our experience with ARS has been an absolute nightmare for our family. They repeateatly send technicians to our home who were not licensed and had no idea how to fix the system. Often they show hours after the service window or don't show up at all. We've been left in the dead of winter huddled in a closet with a space heater to keep warm. We been left with our propane tanks drained with a week from the malfunctioning system. The thermostats they installed do not work. The outdoor Carrier unit they installed now needs to be torn out. This is not even a complete list of issues that we've had. I cannot begin to describe the frustration we've had dealing with ARS. They often don't return phone calls. They have been rude and insulting on the phone. We were even told at one point to 'fix it ourselves'. We've repeatedly appealed to the national office for help. After months of calls going unreturned, we still do not have a working system. We have asked to speak directly with the Manassas general manager. We've tried to get ahold of the CEO/President of ARS, but are told that he does not speak with customers and cannot even get a message to him. I have never heard of a company that will not engage with customers or attempt to resolve an issue with their service and product. For almost a year and half we've done everything to work with this company or get our system working to no avail. The incompetence and poor customer service is astounding. Do not use ARS! read more

I had a terrible experience. Scheduled someone to come out three separate times. All three times, they were hours late to show up even though we agreed upon 4-6 hour time frames.
