We were happy to be seated without a reservation although tables filled in quickly after we came in. Ordered the Rechado Macchi (sea bass) and Achari Baingan (vegan eggplant). Both were delicious. Portions are small so best to get some small plates first or order several to share. Our server brought us plain bread at our request although we were charged as much for plain as the meat filled. Beer is not on the drink menu but there is a small list if you ask. read more

We had an 8:45 reservation but had to wait for a while to get a table. We sat at the bar until about 9:20 till we got a table but the drinks were good so we didn't mind it. The hostess was apologetic and did explain why it was taking so long. When the food came to the table one by one we forgot about everything cause the food was that damn good. Everything from the murg Ka champ to the Sabudana tiki and the bhel was just brilliant. The lamb chop curry and the butternut squash was amazing. The paneer kulcha and chicken kulcha were very good too. Do not leave the place without trying the coconut kheer. The mango sorbet brings everything together and you will end up wanting more. The only drawback was that there was not enough food in each portion. Appetizers are 3 pieces in a plate. The quantity is small but the quality of food is excellent. Will definitely go back. read more

So so so GOOD. This is a modern twist on Indian food but with 0 compromise on flavor. I'd try the ghost chili chicken if you can handle it, it's very good. The lamb is always perfectly cooked and the service/drinks are also excellent. read more

It was our first time at aRoqa and we enjoyed the food and the atmosphere . For a table of two we got two appetizers: the paneer and the sweet potato chat, both of which were good but we read such great reviews about the corn paddu so we were a bit disappointed that they didn't have it tonight. We got a vegetarian biryani and raita for the main course and it was delicious. We had some rosé wine as we didn't feel like trying cocktails and weren't disappointed. (Just a heads up: They aren't tied up with yelp anymore so they do not allow us to redeem the free glass of wine advertised on yelp for checking in) We had saved room for dessert as we were excited about trying them as they had wonderful reviews: we got the coconut kheer with mango ice cream and the daulat ki Chaat, both of which are served in bowls over dry ice so it looks very exciting and they both tasted great. Very new but refreshing flavors. Overall a good experience. read more

I loved everything I ate even though we did not try any meat dishes, but I'm sure those are just as good. I loved the naan, the chaat and the butternut squash kofta... We'll be back without a doubt. read more

Was lucky enough to get to celebrate Diwali here this year and get introduced to this amazing restaurant and their food. The service was incredible for our party, the food was incredible. The paneer is truly special. Everything felt very covid safe and like the appropriate precautions were being taken. Can't wait to eat here again. read more

Very average food and very above average prices. To make matters worse we were made to wait 2 hours for our food. All on a cold day and of course they had no heaters. They did charge us some COVID 19 fee, which i think was for the empty hand sanitizer bottle outside the dirty restroom, since they hadn't spent on heaters of course. In short an okay chef struggling in a terribly mismanaged restaurant. Only good thing - a patient server read more

Terrible service - we had a reservation at 9pm but they didn't get a table till 920pm and were pretty rude every time we inquired. Food's actually decent but the service is terrible read more

We had a 8:30pm reservation got seated in about 10 min, drinks are good our favs were the one on the rim, third eye and re engagement. Apps; loved the murg,we ordered it twice and bhelpuri was goodish. For main course lamb was not good, the chicken dish was very creamy n cooked well. Overall decent exp, all the money for the murg on the champ dish. read more

I had a friend visiting from Spain who loves Indian food. We made reservations at aRoqa for the first time. When we arrived, the host (Chris) was most gracious and welcoming. We got a great table. The food we ordered was delicious. The presentation of each appetizer, entrée and dessert was very creative and charming. We loved the innovative menu that aRoqa created. The atmosphere was very friendly and cozy. The staff were helpful and we loved their suggestions for their favorites. We were very pleased with selecting the restaurant and can't wait to return. The prices were just right and the experience overall was absolutely worth it.! Highly recommend. read more

Reservations do need to be made in advance. I didn't try any of their shared plates but tried a variety of their starters all of which was delicious. The cheese and jalapeño kulcha was delicious! I'm sure the others would be as well. We got corn fritters, mushroom dish and the shrimp kasundi. The shrimp wasn't the best for its price but everything was tasted great! read more

This week's fashionplate features our navy polka dot maxi skirt at Aroqa in Chelsea. I love the simplicity of the our chiffon side slit maxi skirt on a hot summer day so thought it was perfect to meet a friend to catch up over drinks. Aroqa looked cute and is an Indian fusion spot in the hood. It was pretty empty on Thursday evening and we sat at the bar. Their specialty cocktails are amazing. I had one with dry ice and then opted for another one for my second cocktail. My friend also enjoyed her cocktails as well. I will be back to try food. read more

Really wanted to like aroqa because of the concept; it was decent but opportunity to refine execution a bit. We decided to catch an early dinner and tried a couple small plates and drinks. Drinks were good and they had some cocktails you don't see frequently. We tried the ghost pepper Chicken kebab and chicken chop. The chicken kebab was the better of the 2 plates as it had more flavor and was not as spicy as it sounded. The chop was fine...besides the presentation, the flavor didn't quite match. It wasn't bad by any means just didn't feel inspired with flavor. The naan and service were great. Might be worth another visit to try other things on the menu. read more

If you would like to wait for 45 minutes to be served a glass of wine, this is the place to be! The food smells and looks good but the flavors are missing. The server brought a burnt dish, dropped half of it, apologized with a bovine smile on his face and left. No replacement, no substitution. I haven't experienced such bad service in a long time. The management needs to take note that there are several restaurants in the neighborhood and given the sub-par level of service, patrons will soon take their business elsewhere. read more

Amazing menu that words can never express. Friendly staff, great drinks, always interesting conversations at the bar.

Amazing and unique Indian food. The space is beautiful and modern and the team is lovely! The menu is interesting and creative and every dish we had was outstanding. Paneer tikka masala is perfect and the cauliflower appetizer is to die for. Beautiful cocktails with an outstanding bar tending team (Christian is lovely!) Also - they have happy hour all night at the bar, which is a total steal! read more

Extremely OverPriced Food and Ridiculously small portions. Husband and I went there yesterday on Valentine's Day. We got a bhel($12), two orders of lamb chops ($22 for 3 pieces) and ghost chicken ($15 for three pieces). Our bill was $80 and we left hungry. Another reason being was that we ordered these from the appetizer menu since the dinner menu didn't have many options. We ordered a mojito as soon as we walked in and halfway through our dinner the waiter said they were out of Mojito. We both then ordered soda and it didn't arrive at our table even after we asked for the check. We then had to tell them to cancel it since we were already done eating and we're about to pay the bill. This place is more like a snack type of place and not one to have a proper dinner. Valentine's Day was ruined by coming here. Oh also, they had roses that they gave out to ladies, when we came in they never gave us one. Later one of the waiters checked to see if someone didn't have one and brought two to the two tables next to me and still didn't give me one. My husband was so upset at the place already that he asked me not to ask them or say anything about it. I will never come here again or recommend this to anyone. My entire Valentine's Day was ruined because of these people. read more

Undercooked meat and food was not hot! Overpriced as well. Nothing special about the food.

Have been to Aroqa on multiple occasions and can say without a doubt that it's the best place for Indian food in New York. It has the finest Kebabs; (seekh, shami, mutton or chicken). The lamb chops and the peri peri prawns are to die for. The service is very good and one feels attended to at all times. Besides the amazing food and terrific, Aroqa is in a fantastic location. read more

I've had both a great service here and also poor service. First few times we had great service and tasty food. Third time, on a Sunday night in November was a disappointment with slow service and a waiter who didn't know the menu and just guessed (incorrectly) at what certain ingredients or preparations were. I'll definitely give it another try and just hope the experience is as good as it was at first. read more

I almost want to make this a 3 star year. However, since what drives my reviews are quality of dishes, this place easily delivered on that front. We ordered a variety of starters including an unusual (for an Indian place) pork dish. It was all pretty delicious but even for a smaller guy like me the portions were TOO SMALL. This is not the place to go to if you're hungry. However, the innovative menu and elegant black interior would make for a nice date spot. read more

I heard lot about this place it was not above my expectations but their r few things which was wow .ambiance was ok as chef has focused on more on bar menu ..food menu looks v small in front of that and there are v limited food choices.. music was bit loud .so basically not family restaurant but yes if you are group of young ppl this place is perfect ..now let's talk about food ok so we ordered kurkuri bhel, yakhani pulao,Bhatti murgh ke champ ,saubudana tikki and kheer with coconut flavor with mango sorbet..kurkuri bhel was v yummy I ordered twice so if ur goin to eat there you should order that..sabudana tikki was ok not up to the mark ..bhatti murgh ke champ was ok but but but the presentation of that dish was wow ..so 100 marks for presentation but 40 marks for taste ..yakhani pulao was tasteless and wo any flavor..and best was rice pudding with coconut flavor and mango sorbet..I honestly never had such rice pudding in my life it was one of the best rice pudding so must must try thing .here is one problem they dnt hv desert menu nor deserts are mention in regular menu ..if they give desert menu with all the details it will b easier to order ..over all not so bad experience but there r room to improve the taste of entree ..service is good .so ARoqa goes into my fav restaurant list I will sure go again to try kurkuri bhel and ther amazing desert.. read more

Definitely the best Indian food in NYC! The cocktails are delicious and I love the lamb chops, kurkuri bhel and peri peri prawns! The outdoor dining situation was great - I felt very safe and comfortable with the table spacing, dividers and heaters! read more

Had an awesome experience here with my family last week. Food was spectacular. We are of Indian descent, eat a lot of Indian food and this was something different. The chef was actually in house and came to speak to us, was very friendly. Dishes are very unique and creative, with amazing flavors and presentation. Will definitely be back! read more

The best food ambience and service. Their COVID seating was the best and I felt completely safe. The staff were attentive and the wine selection was the amazing with a great price point. I would recommend aroqa as being the best Indian food in NYC along with all aspects of eating out in freezing temperatures. read more

The small and large plates were unique and delicious. The flavors are distinct and stand out. Chicken and lamb chops are a must order. Keema and the kaali daal were cooked just right and very flavorful. I tried the corn paddo, baingan (eggplant) bharta and merry gold (whiskey drink)! Must try all three. Lots of flavor, excellent presentation. Good ambience, quick and attentive service! read more

Delicious Indian Food! We were here on a weekday night and didn't have a reservation. We were seated right away! We ordered lasuni gobi, dum aloo, naan and paneer naan. Lasuni gobi had the right amount of spice and crunchiness. Naan was delivered to our table after the appetizer with a small portion of chutney but there was no sign of dum aloo. The manager stopped by to inform us that they were out of dum aloo. So we ordered paneer saag based on her recommendation which was amazing!! We also ordered chocolate soufflé and Kheer as dessert. It was super delicious and we are already looking forward to eating here again. If you are in the area with empty stomach, do stop by at ARoqa. read more

Creative new spin at Indian food. Definitely worth a first try but not sure if it can be your go to for Indian food again. Was seated in the inside room which was really cold. They got us a space heater which did not help much which just dampened the experience. read more

Amazing Indian fusion food and service is amazing. Had habanero chicken tikka, kurkuri bhel, sabudana tikki for appetizer and sigree lobster and butternut squash Ke kofte for dinner and each meal was unique experience. I think we will try the entire menu soon. The bar makes the most amazing drinks and open late. Great place to have friends and family to enjoy drinks and food. Do make reservations or it will get busy. Must give credit to Chef in making us feel welcomed. read more

I would really give them 3.5 stars. The small plates were all very good, particularly the mushroom kataifi, the sun chokes chaat, and the fire chicken dish. The main entrees felt a bit bland after the small plates, especially the sea bass. My prosecco cocktail was very good. I would recommend this more as a bar for cocktails and a small plate or two, not really for dinner. The restaurant itself is small and the decor is very plain. The marketing for this restaurant makes it seem like a lot more than it is. The service was one of the worst I've experienced at a restaurant. It really ruined the experience. The waitress asked one of our guests 4 times what cocktail she was having, she mistook a vodka club for a gin tonic and asked which one it was, and brought my drink significantly after the other two people in my party had theirs. read more

Such delicious food, inventive cocktails (so good!) & super attentive service! This place has tiny, super expensive plates...but I loved the meal we had! The acoustics in the place are good too...we could hear each other talking in the busy space (as I age, this becomes more and more important!) read more

The contemporary Indian dishes here are phenomenal! Be sure to make a reservation, particularly on Friday and Saturday night. We had a reservation and were seated as soon as our whole group arrived. The ambiance is nice and cozy, but they are able to accommodate larger groups towards the back (2 parties of about 8-10 people or 1 party of about 12-15 people). The cost is comparable to other restaurants that serve similar unique, contemporary items. They are very creative in their presentation and use of ingredients. There is also a wide range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian items. The cocktails are really good, however we did not enjoy the Shadowplay cocktail which the waiter kindly took back and replaced with another cocktail instead. Definitely a must try! read more

I am so happy aRoqa offers carry-out during this crazy time. I also have dined in the restaurant a handful of times and its reassuring to see the level of cleanliness inside. Sanitation stations, all employees wear masks and face shields. To top if off, their food and specialty cocktails are 10/10 in flavor and presentation. I always look forward to my next visit here! The owner is also so sweet, love her!! read more

This place is absolutely phenomenal. The food quality is great. The taste is yummy and the cocktails are outstanding. Service is top notch. Great experience,we will definitely visit again !! Superrrr recommended ! read more

I never quite understood why a lot of restaurants that are organically noisy insist on adding noise in the form of "music". I put "music" in quotes because really it is often (as it is at this restaurant) a monotonous regularly recurring rhythm, not creative, or entertaining, or certainly not soothing background by which to enjoy a quiet meal with good conversation. Having said that, the food was very good, and quite creative; a cut above your typical NYC Indian restaurant. Cocktails were interesting and good. Service too, was very good. Overall prices were a bit on the high side, but not outrageous. In sum: If you don't mind a bit of extraneous noise, and are looking for a creative take on Indian food, check out aRoqa. If you are looking for t traditional Indian food restaurant and environment for comfortable conversation, go elsewhere. read more
