Aroma Bakery is a Chinese bakery located inside the Milliken Square Plaza in Scarborough, Ontario. The plaza is located on the Northeast side of Finch Ave E and Milliken Blvd right across the HSBC bank. It's pretty much a dead plaza but Aroma Bakery is worth making a trek to the plaza. They are really known for their wife cakes also known as lou po beng in Cantonese for good reason. During the coronavirus pandemic with all the shutdowns and with not much to do, I can't speak on behalf of most people but personally I have been doing a lot of eating and takeout. After reading some reviews, I decided to drop by to try their Chinese egg tarts and wife cake. I have tried their Chinese egg tarts and they are definitely pretty good but their wife cake is probably one of the best in the city of Toronto. A Chinese wife cake is a traditional Chinese pastry that originates from the Southern province of Guangdong in China. It's a light flaky pastry that is usually egg washed on the outside and inside there is usually a chewy glutinous filling that is comprised of winter melon, almond paste and sesame spiced with five spice powder. Aroma Bakery does almost a perfect one, nice light and flaky pastry with a chewy lightly sweet glutinous filling without any taste of any artificial filling. Since they are also well known for their wife cakes, this means there is a lot of turnover and you are pretty much guaranteed to get one that is pretty fresh. I usually go a few times a week and order two at a time ($3.15 tax included for two). If you are ever in Scarborough and are looking for really amazing Chinese wife cakes or Chinese traditional pastries drop by Aroma Bakery. The prices are pretty reasonable and they are really nice people. They do have a second location at Kennedy Square in Markham at Kennedy Rd and Highway 7.

My favourite Chinese bakery in Toronto hands down!!! I love their plain cake (雞旦糕) and winter melon wife cake (老婆餅). I used to like their bread but not as much compared to their cake. They lotus seed stuffed cake (旦黃蓮蓉酥or皮旦蓮蓉酥) are also good. On weekends they sometimes have sesame balls (煎堆). My grandma likes their 雞仔餅, it is not my cup of tea as I have sweet tooth (not into savory stuff). My favorite Chinese cake place and will definitely return if I am in Toronto. The lady at counter is also very nice. She explained these cute cake are Chinese wedding cake with dragon and Phoenix. The inside is like mooncake but a flat version. It looks so pretty and wished they sell them !

This place offers traditional Chinese pastry for Chinese wedding like the melon paste "wife" cake, preserved egg or salty egg tart, sponge cake, etc. They have nice packages as gifts for the bride family from groom side as a Chinese custom. I especially love the melon paste "Wife" cake because it is always fresh and soft, not overly sweeten.

I do enjoy simpler things in life. With this newer trend of fancy bakery shops popping up all over Toronto and GTA, I starting to value some traditional Chinese pastry. They are not photo worthy or can attract all these LIKES, but food is more than just worth posting online. Sweetheart Cake 老婆餅 or Wife's Cake is one of those classic examples. There are a few folklore of who and why this was named. But I do love the chewiness and the QQ texture as glutinous rice flour is used to mix in with candied wintermelon. One of the best Chinese bakery to get one of these is at Aroma Bakery. They baked all their pastries on site and you can just smell how good they are even before stepping in.

Whenever I am craving for Chinese pastries, I will buy their melon paste cakes ("wife cake") & salty egg pastries. Those are my favors! My 3-year-old especially like their egg white sponge cakes and mini buns ^^. Food: 4/5 One of the best Chinese pastries in Toronto with reasonable price. Service: 4/5 Staffs are friendly and helpful. Environment: 5/5 Nice and clean. 3 locations in Markham & Scarborough.

The pastries and mochi breads are absolutely exquisite! I tried the black sesame mochi bread--light, pillowy, and filled with a delightful little white mochi surprise. The crème brûlée almond tart was incredible too, with its thick, eggy custard and a blueberry-almond center. And the Hitotoki matcha tart? Gorgeous and just perfect. It was my first visit, and I discovered the bakery through their 2nd-anniversary IG post. I bought about $20 worth of treats and got to spin their prize wheel--and I actually won the Grand Prize: a limited-edition gold Nespresso & milk frother kit! I literally jumped for joy. Yet another reason to love this incredible bakery!

It was okay. Tried three items:…read more Matcha Lava Tart - The staff said this had the strongest matcha flavour among their matcha items. But there was no "lava" at all... just a layer of cream sitting on a thick tart base. You do get some matcha flavour, but definitely not that rich and flowing matcha sauce I saw in those online reels. Matcha Mont Blanc - Too sweet. The green noodle-shaped topping is actually made from a kind of bean paste - not much matcha taste, but had a strong bean flavour instead. And again, it was too sweet to my liking. Taro Tart - This one was good. Taro-flavoured cream on top, with taro paste underneath, then a layer of custard with mochi at the bottom. Had a rich taro flavour. Still a bit sweet, but not as overwhelming as the Mont Blanc. Overall it was not bad, although TBH I haven't really found great matcha desserts in Toronto so far.

My wife always judges a French Cafe by their Butter Croissant ($3.00) and she liked it! She also noticed all the  staff speak French sp it gives it even more legitimacy.  She also ordered a Flat White ($4.50) which was also good. I ordered a Plum Almond Tart ($7.25) because it was the prettiest. It was super delicious so it was definitely a good choice! Service was courteous and friendly. You place your order at the counter and bring it to your table. Someone will come around to clear the dishes when you are done It is a great place to have a nice casual time eating and socializing. They make all their food in-house in the basement. There are products for sale such as coffee beans, fruit syrup, maple syrup, smoked sauces, olive oil, scented soap, wine glassware, etc. I will definitely come back again to try other items. There is free WiFi. The neo-bisto is not wheelchair accessible since there are stairs leading up to the entrance. There are two gender-neutral washrooms. There is free street parking on their one-way south-bound street. Review 2023-017

Hopped on my bike and a half hour later I was there. The friendly staff helped me by answering my question regarding eggs and which items did not have any in the recipes. This place was also super poppin' when I got there. It was earlish in the day around 10:30am and it seemed all the tables were pretty much taken. They are adding a dinner menu which is very exciting. Their pastries are phenomenal!!! Picked up a plum and pistachio tart, a chocolate mousse cake and an apple Danish for my mom. Plus a chocolate caramelized croissant. So much butter, and yet so good. Brought my container, which they happily used. The last time I visited this spot back in 2022, I vowed I would come back and take up space in that beautiful bay window seat. Yet I haven't followed through with that yet. One day. They also changed the name, since I was there last it was called Le Conciliabule Lab. Le Conciliabule means, "speak easy", as their website says. It was used back in the day to describe a place where people would come together and talk about everything and nothing. I can definitely say that happens here. What a beautiful concept, "everything and nothing". Now named Bisou, which means kiss. That's actually really simple and sweet. Since every pastry and any food item or beverage enjoyed here is a kiss for your tastebuds. Love it. Keep going team. You are amazing!
