Bac'N Cheeze Burger
Grant B.

I just became vegan earlier this week & been craving a burger so I found Arlo's late night (11 PM) for my first vegan cheeseburger ever. Nice to have the crave-able options! Actually enjoyed the 'Bac'N Cheeze Burger.' The taste was excellent with the twang of mustard & you couldn't honestly tell it was vegan except that the bacon seemed kinda wimpy. I also thought the additional condiments were way too minimal instead of ample. Where's the crispy lettuce??? I don't have any at all on my take-out burger, maybe it was forgotten? A small thin tomato only two lame mutilated pickles (my fav) weren't enough. Guess next time I'll know to ask for extra. Wins: overall size & taste of burger & the ample dose of perfectly made tater tots. Plus crew friendliness & service & speed with fair prices. Cons: condiment amounts & bacon weren't anything to crow about. No air conditioning (it's outside & hot in TX). One ketchup isn't enough for the awesome tots portion, 2 would be perfect. Overall I'd go back & get a double, & hopefully raise my star rating.

Jalapeno Ranch Chikn Sandwich

Great food and fast service! The jalapeño ranch is a must try! The chikn used tastes a bit like a veggie burger, which may have some appeal to those not ready for a full fledged meat substitute. There are some outdoor seating areas, but probably better off eating in a car during this hot weather.

$7 chips and salsa that's a small basket with Adobo sauce. Adobo sauce isn't salsa. That same $7 also gets you one taco. It's better to bring your own food at this point.

Don't look like much but it is so awesome!! One of the best food truck experience I have had. Love the ambiance- the seating arrangement is so cute, especially in the night, with the hanging string lights - it looks super cute, cozy and welcoming. It's an all vegan, plant based food truck. We got lucky when we went it was not super crowded. Ordered the two type of tacos they have - burger crumbles and Seitan. I am not a big fan of fake meat so I stuck with the burger crumbles and it was oh so delicious- hands down the best tacos I have ever had. Good balance of flavors and texture. We also ordered the sweet potato fries- it was nicely done, perfectly crisp and well seasoned. Highly recommend this food truck if you are ever in this neighborhood. I have already spread the word among friends and family and I can't wait to revisit and try some other items on the menu. Keep up the good work guys!! Best wishes! JJ

I love this place! The Bac'n Cheeze Burger is freaking amazing! Feels so indulgent, like you're eating something bad for you, but yet it contains no animal products. Woohoo! The tots are always perfectly crispy. The burger really is enough for your meal, but how can you pass up that fried goodness? I have taken meat eaters here and they have all loved this burger too. This place hits the spot for everyone!

Logistics first. In order to get to Arlo's, you'll have to go through Cheer Up Charlies. The guy at the front will ask for a donation to get in to support the bands. You can either pay the donation, or tell him that you're just here for Arlo's, and he'll let you in. Make a couple turns and you're there. This is my first time trying a legitimate veggie burger. If you're aware and paying attention, you can feel the slight difference in texture, but it's not something that'll distract you. The flavor of the patty is great and has a nice char. The "bacon" can be more crispy, but that and everything in the burger complements each other very well. The tomato and lettuce look fresh. The tater tots are also super crispy. You can tell everything has a purpose and is at a high quality. In the end, you'll also notice how little grease there is, and it's a darn good feeling. Their burgers will definitely satisfy any burger cravings you get, no matter what kind of diet you're on. Their price tag is fantastic for the quality, and they've set a high bar for meatless burgers.

While attempting to incorporate a more plant-based lifestyle in April of 2018, I did my research before coming to town. Arlo's was just the late night post-bar experience I needed after my first night out in Austin when visiting for my birthday last year. It well exceeded my expectations. After going out on Rainey Street, we walked up to this food truck that is hosted on the site of the Cheer Up Charlie's bar. Weird because it is fenced in not just parked on the lot so you had to show ID and explain that you are just trying to order food to go. I read that sometimes the actual bar charges a cover depending on the night to go in and around to order your food, that night we did not encounter that fortunately. We ordered Bac'n Cheezeburgers and fries. We didn't eat them right there on site, instead we called our Lyft and took them back to the AirBnB and ate them on our patio. Even with the commute time the food was still hot and delicious. I would love to have an establishment like that around where I live so I could "pig" out with less guilt.

Not returning here again!! I live up north, but I usually go to the one off fruth st but they weren't answering their calls to place an order. So I decided to go where I did not want to go.. Arlos off red river-- I experience different service from the two locations. The red river location has poor service all the time ( rude) and will be my last time coming there (3rd time). They messed up on my order, I asked for a Fritos pie burger, and was charge for what I asked for... but they gave me the Fritos pie plate instead! I didn't notice until I was almost home, and then they closed. I contacted them and told me they would refund me and send me an e gift card, I followed up twice and they did not reply. I did not receive either of those. Complete BS service.

So Arlo's serves the honor of being the first place I hit up in Austin (well really the entire state of Texas) after arriving in the airport. I immediately took my Lyft here for lunch after reading about the truck in various reviews and publications. I'm normally a skeptic of vegan replacements for food, especially meat since I grew up as a vegetarian. Also, I've never really been a fan of vegan substitutes for cheese either. However, the reviews alone justified the try on my end. From entering, I thought it was kind of unique how they had the seating. Gave me a picnic type of vibe next to Cheer up Charlie's. Thought it was cool. I asked for the most favorite item on the menu, which turned out to be the Bac'N Cheezburger. Now full disclosure: I never tasted bacon in real life. For some reason though, the burger tasted amazing. Like it had a really really good kick. And I almost forgot that it was fully vegan. Didn't taste that it was plant-based cheese. Didn't notice the vegan bacon (maybe that's not a good thing, I don't know). For a vegan burger, this place has really set the gold standard for a quality burger that can beat out most sit-down establishments. Real kudos to y'all. So yes, if you're in Austin, make it out here. Take a scooter or something to swing by for a dope plant-based burger.

Cheezeburger and fries!

Oh my gosh, I just had the best vegan burger/gluten free bun combo I've ever had at a food truck! It also probably ranks better than any vegan burger/gf bun I've had at a restaurant too. The burger itself was very filling, and the toppings were flavorful and very well balanced. I also ordered a side of fries that were delicious, and also a great portion size. Staff were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about allergens; the bac'n is not gluten free.

Are there tree nuts in the cheese or the burger?

Someone else may be able to answer more definitively, but I'm allergic to most (not all) tree nuts and didn't react at all to the cheeseburger.

Are the fries particularly the sweet potato kind cut fresh or are they frozen ? Also what type of oil do y'all use?

We had regular fries. I think they were frozen. But don't let that keep you from trying thier burgers.

The bread was so fresh, crispy where it needed to be, and buttery in all the right places. It was a perfectly balanced sandwich ratio, not too thick, not too thin, and came with chips or potato salad. The in-house beer is great, and there's something for anyone's tastes, plus non alcoholic options. We sat outside with our pups on the dog friendly patio, which is fully covered and shaded, with tons of great seating options. The parking is shared and gets packed in the evening or you have to pay to park if you are unable to find anything in the lot or on the street. Handsome Dans has a sign directing you to the back where they are located. The vibe is true to a bait shop/diner it's casual with a rustic feel, they have a large covered patio adjacent to Stargazer bar. I highly suggest sitting outside if possible because the inside does get a bit claustrophobic and smokey when it's packed and they are smashing paninis on the press with no proper kitchen overhead vents. The type of greasy smoke you get when you are making super buttery sandwiches on a hot press. The sandwiches are ok but not something I would go out of my way to have ,our kids liked the hotdogs and Frito pies which were also kind of "upper class" gas station quality. Most of the stuff here is food that probably tastes way better after drinking several beers. It's like any normal sandwich you could make at home and toss in a panini press to be honest. Really good beers on tap and friendly staff who seemed to disappear to the back quite a bit and came back confused. They didn't know if they had already given me my food because I was ordering and paying for extra food after more people in our party arrived. They literally saw my food I already had on the table from my previous order and thought they gave me double of what I ordered hahaha. I can't make a judgment because I have no clue what they kept dispersing to the back for but can just say the confusion was real, LOL. All together if I had to come back it be because someone I knew wanted to try it. Otherwise for me it's a one and done. I got the pictures I stood next to a sign ,I had the Signiture sandwiches, now I'm moving on. I can say I've been there done that. I'm guessing that a college crowd or just being a single person who just wants to be amongst people that this is the type of lowkey place to go if you're not into the typical Longhorn hangouts. You stop in ,have some beers, eat a low budget ingredient expensive panini sandwich and chill till you have to call yourself a Waymo cause the beer is good and strong.

He recommended the chicken & biscuits, cinnamon toast, & the b.e.c sandwich. I ended up getting the b.e.c. sandwich & it was yummy. The sesame challah bun was soft & toasty. The bacon was smoky & crispy. The bacon, pimiento cheese, jalapeño jam, sunny egg, & arugula in the sandwich was the perfect combination for a breakfast sandwich. The potato wedges that it was served with were crispy, well seasoned, & not salty as all. My boyfriend ordered the chicken & biscuit & it was yummy as well. The chicken was crispy & juicy.
