Came here with my husband and father in law and had a great experience. The service was pleasant and the kitchen and dining area was airy and clean. The owner was very lovely. She came to the table to check on us and made sure our order came out correctly. Now, for the food. We ordered the following: Combo tempura appetizer Anago Tendon Albacore bay roll Ikura nigiri 2 item bento box (sorry no picture because I was too busy stuffing my face). The food came out fresh and well seasoned. The Tendon came with a soft boiled egg. I was a bit disappointed that the egg came out overcooked and not runny but that was the only setback. Everything else was fried to crispy perfection. We were also offered complementary japchae (glass noodle) which was a nice surprise. Overall the food was fresh and not greasy at all. I LOVED Ari when they first opened. Service was amazing, the omakase was SO good for the price, and their side dishes were yummy. Now I should've written my review back then, because I've been a few more times since and unfortunately, it's just gotten worse each time. And honestly, I blame social media. And it is a double edged sword.. It was crazy busy after (I, too saw) the Instagram/TikTok promoting this place, which is AMAZING for business, BUT, I'm guessing they've been so overwhelmed and had to find ways to cut corners. With their new servers, they all seemed nice and friendly, but inexperienced and aloof. The Omakase wasn't as fresh and delicious as it used to be. The Uni don was mediocre. They need better ventilation, or doors open. And I no longer see the friendly owner working. I want to love this place! So I'll be back, hoping they get their act together. read more

I personally loved this sushi place. Went today with 2 friends, and first off all, the staff is very kind and lovely!!! We were warmly greeted and provided plenty of time to review the menu and enjoy the self-serve pickled vegetables as well as water and hot tea in the containers at our table. Service was friendly and efficient. While dishes are at a higher price point, the quality of the sushi was very good and nicely presented. For the lunch option, there was salmon, fatty tuna, hamachi, butterfish and albacore that stood out. My friend's bulgogi lunch special included generous portions and presented in an artful way with vegetables and grilled pineapple. We had really high hopes for Ari Sushi because our 10 year old said that she loved it, and wanted to go back. We walked into a bright, clean looking room filled with pop music. It seems very hip! We ordered the softshell, crab tendon, chicken, tempura, asparagus, tempura, steamed rice, a tropical mango roll, a California roll, a Sapporo, draft 16 ounce and a hot sake. Nothing really impressed us. We like how we were able to serve ourselves with ample water and tea. We just really have to remember that a child old who orders California rolls as a meal shouldn't dictate what the rest of the family should consume. read more

As you can see by my review from ten months ago, I am a fan of this place. I have eaten here about a dozen times and never had a problem as I obviously keep returning. Now reduced to a single star (Yelpers please feel free to comment if I am right or wrong here) but the policy for paying at the front offers tipping. That is fine but is it appropriate to calculate the tip including the state of CA tax? That is the reason for one star. I feel that is very sneaky and assumptive. I pay tip every time based on the total PRE TAX between 15% - 20% consistently but I am pretty sure it is an industry standard not to tip on tax. My average bill at Ari is $200 - $300 dollars so even though adding tip on the tax is not a huge amount, it is the principle of it. At times people comment on the internet about tipping culture being out of control. Is this an example of that? Am I right or wrong to complain about this? It is also important to note that I called the restaurant and gave them a chance to fix this and/or explain why they think this an acceptable practice and the time I was told a response would come has passed. read more

I had no idea what a tendon and as a first timer here, I had to try their specialty. When scanning the menu I saw "soft shell crab" ($22.95) and decided, done! That's what I'm ordering and it did not disappoint. The soft shell crab was SO good, the egg perfectly poached and the tempura veggies so crispy. I enjoyed every bite of my meal and the rice to topping ratio was perfect in my book. The presentation was lovely and server was nice. We opted for an outdoor table where you had to get all your utensils by yourself, so I wouldn't say we had a lot of service but the few interactions we had, it was good. I kept seeing this place all over tiktok and Instagram and had to try it for myself. Came around 6:30pm on a Friday night and there were still some open tables. However by the time I finished the place was packed and there was a waitlist. I ordered the chicken tendon and let me tell you, tempura was nicely fried. It came with two shrimp, seaweed, a pepper, pumpkin, eggplant and several chicken karage pieces. The egg mixed into the rice with the sauce on it was delicious. Also ordered the special tropical mango roll which was fresh and yummy. I really liked the side salad the food comes with, complimentary jap chae and the granita to refresh your palette at the end. The reason for the 3 stars was for the service. I had to constantly flag someone down to order, refill the water pitchers at the table, and even get our desserts. Also they forgot one of our orders at the table and when we asked they still didn't have it ready, not sure if they gave it away or what. My friend brought me to this new spot in Dublin during the holidays. We went during lunch on a Friday afternoon and around noon, the place was packed. I tried their Ebi Tendon, which is one of their signature menu items. This came as an assorted tempura bowl that includes sushi rice, shrimp, squid, sweet pumpkin, eggplant, shishito pepper, seaweed, and a soft boiled egg. This menu item also includes hot tea, miso soup, salad with corn dressing, and a palette cleanser dessert. These additions are small, but it's a nice add-on for a well-rounded meal! I saw an Instagram reel of Ari Sushi and I wanted to give it a try. MEH. I can't ever trust that person again as I now deem them with mid level taste buds and are untrustworthy in the food recommendation department. I came at open (5pm) on a Sunday for dinner. We picked the table we wanted to sit at and was walked through it as it was our first time there. There's little unstable rolling storages next to each table where hot tea, cold water, glasses, condiments (pickled radish and leeks?, and ginger) are located. These should be labeled tbh. It would be a little easier to navigate. I'm not a fan of this, as it doesn't feel sturdy. When I put the tea down the entire thing shook from the weight. Also, it seems kind of gross that anyone could have touched the cup and put it back. I wiped down the cups before using them. I ordered the "Ari Sushi Full Plate" which is Omakase Chef's choice of Nigiri, 13 pcs and would include salad, soup, and dessert. My boyfriend ordered the Soft Shell Crab Tendon bowl, a hamachi sashimi appetizer, and we both ordered beers with our meal. Our salad came out first. Not a fan or the corn dressing, but it's a thing. Then 15 minutes later our beers, which I consider very slow... Then we got out entrees.... THEN WE GOT OUR MISO SOUP? HUH? Shouldn't that have came out with the salad or shortly after the salad? Also, the soup does not have tofu, green onions, or seaweed and is very watered down. My omakase itself was not memorable. None of the fishes tasted very fresh to be honest, but for $40 it isn't bad. The Soft Shell Crab Tendon Bowl was ok as well. I thought there'd be more tempura, whether protein or vegetables, but no. I didn't think this one was worth the price. The dessert is like a snowball with a ton of simple syrup and some shiso leaf bits. It was just ok, very sweet though. Honestly, the service sucked. Everyone was nice enough, but it doesn't meet my standards since were there 10 mins before a larger group came and ordered before them, yet somehow they got their food before us! With our beer taking longer than it should have, and our soup being servied mid entree.... I wasn't really happy with the experience. You also have to go up to the front and pay versus paying at the table. Kinda feels like a cheap experience. For over $110 + tip (that wasn't earned in the slightest, but I am proper....) it wasn't worth it. I've been wanting to try Ari for awhile. The food was fresh, and the presentation was delightful. We got the ebi (shrimp tempura) "tendon" which was over rice and had an over easy egg that you're supposed to break and mix into your rice. We also ordered a Salmon Valley Roll, which was beautifully arranged. The lemon slices on the top was a little overpowering, so we removed them and the rolls tasted better. I highly enjoyed the carts by the table and being able to have hot tea and ice water right when we sat down. My favorite was having access to the pickled veggies, but you really have to trust that past customers at the table used tongs to take out the pickles. (It is cold/flu season...and Covid is kicking up steam again!) I hesitate to take off a star because I did like my dinner at Ari, but the ambience was lacking for me. The restaurant was spacious and clean. The service was decent. The workers seemed efficient and hardworking. But gosh darn it, the place was so bright and had little decor! (See my photos.) Think dentist office meets fish bowl. Good thing I like going to the dentist (haha), so I didn't mind it too much, but it was strangely bright to be there at night for dinner with one wall being all glass. Great presentation. Fun, interesting and tasty to try some of the tempura bowls but I don't think those are specifically good enough for the price tag again and again. I felt like it was lacking some sort of sauce. Though the frying and ingredients was definitely super fresh. The soft shell crab was so large!!! It's definitely very "crabby" when you're eating it whole so it's probably not for everyone but I enjoyed it. I liked the additional sides and appreciated the genuine wasabi on the menu. The tempura here is really good. The soft-shell crab tempura is a must-have. Their tendon bowls offer a good variety of tempura to try and it also comes with a fried egg with runny yolk. The tendon bowls also come with a salad. I think the miso soup is complementary, we always order one tendon bowl and one roll and they give us 2 soups. The soup has a pretty mild miso flavor. Their sushi is pretty good. I usually order a roll with salmon in it and their salmon is always fresh. The Tropical Mango roll is on the sweeter side though. I think Salmon Valley is still my favorite roll--but I will definitely try more of their other rolls next time. The price point is on the higher side but they do have very nice portions. The restaurant is very spacious and clean. They have 2 restrooms. There was a baby changing station in the women's restroom. The staff are pleasant and fast. The tendon was basically tempura over rice with a soft boiled egg. It was good but not like out of this world good if you know what I mean. The spider roll had 12 pieces, we liked it but it was too saucy. In terms of ambience, the interior design was a bit japandi. We really liked the look, calm and chill atmosphere. However, because tendon was their signature dish, they offered lots of frying items on the menu. The ventilation was terrible. You can smell the oiliness in the air as you walk in. :/ we smelt liked we worked 8 hour shift in the kitchen at the end of our meal. Our clothes sucked up all the odor. It was my first time trying this restaurant and they had just changed their menu. We ordered the Cold Soba, a 3 item lunch bento, and chicken karage. The Cold Soba was perfect for a hot day. It doesn't taste as good as a left over. The tempura nori is something I haven't seen before. The chicken karage was more of a chicken tempura. I would have preferred a traditional chicken karage. A lot of bentos are now really expensive for dinner so we try to only get bentos during lunch. Not sure if we would order the tempura with tue bento again since some of the tempura was nori tempura. My husband enjoyed the salmon sashimi. The staff was friendly and the restaurant had spacious seating. Parking is easy since it's located in a plaza. I went on a weekday though so not sure. They have self service water, hot tea, utensils, soy sauce and pickles. Service is friendly but it does get busy! My family has loved every dish we've tried. The Omakase is delicious featuring fresh fish. The Tendon is crispy and flavorful. Love the soft boiled egg. Ebi tendon ($17.95): I heard the juicy crunch when my friend bit into his shrimp, and he loved it! Quite filling and huge pieces. Will try a tendon dish next time! Omakase ($39.95): 13 pieces of pure joy. Not often you find omakase for this price!! My husband feared he'll still be hungry but after demolishing it, we both sat back and stared at the ceiling. That rice really gets you, though the fish is so fresh. I think our waiter said it's sourced from Japan?? Worth every penny. The sleek design inside is also gorgeous!! This is a busy plaza, so parking may be hit or miss - it is also an awkward plaza to navigate through, especially at night (some lanes may be one way). I did a to go order ahead of time to avoid waiting, but the order was still not ready when I arrived and it took awhile. I ordered their kani nigiri, sake nigiri, and sake/salmon roll. It was a bit pricey for what I got - about $27. The sushi had wasabi in it, which I did not like and wished I knew ahead of time. Other than that, the salmon tasted decently fresh and at least the sake/salmon roll came in 8 pieces instead of 6 pieces, but it still did not justify the price (I feel like you are paying for the ambience as well, so maybe next time I would have to dine in for that experience). read more

The shrimp tempura provided a nice crunch. The eel sauce was flavorful and brought everything together nicely. The tuna was decently fresh. #3 Hot soba: 2.5/5. ** I would pass on this. It didn't taste bad, it was simply too average. The meat was good but too little. Not worth ordering given all the other options. Special shout out to the complimentary side dishes, they all tasted awesome! I especially enjoyed the corn salad, lemon sherbet, and the self-serve barley tea. The interior design was bright, modern and minimalistic. Would make a good casual date spot, though hard to accommodate for parties larger than 4 ppl due to the small space. Very chic interior decor! Right when I walked in, I was greeted by a few of the staffs, which was nice. I instantly noticed a cart right next to our table which had utensils, cups, water and hot tea.. it was so convenient to have everything right there.. genius! We ordered the caterpillar roll and it was great with lots of flavor.. no soy sauce needed! The assorted tempura were crunchy! I ordered the udon soup which was ok, wasn't really udon but i knew that when it said wheat flour.. also the flavor wasn't really there, definitely needed some hot sauce or something! Overall, the service was good, except they forgot to bring us a couple of items that came with our meals like the soup with the tendons, we had to ask for our desserts, etc. I would definitely come back to try their rolls, not so much their noodles though. read more

Was driving back up to Davis and wanted to try this place on the way. I came here on Sunday night and have to wait about 30min for a party of 2 to be seated. I love how this restaurant has all your dishes and side toppings on the side of the table in a cart for you. I also love how every meal comes with a salad, tea, miso soup, and dessert. The tea and water are also on the cart at the side of the table. This place is popular for their sushi and their donburi. Full omakase (5/5) they have a half omakase and a full omakase. For $40 and 13 pieces of nigiri, I knew I had to get a full set. It came with 11 pieces of fish nigiri, imitation crab nigiri, and tamago nigiri. They fish was fresh and tasted so much better because of the value. I was so love with this omakase set. Soft shell crab donburi(5/5): This donburi comes with a warm bed of rice and so much pieces tempura including soft shell crab, shrimp, eggplant, pumpkin, seaweed, and shishito peppers. The soft shell tempura was the best I every had as it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This place is the best value Japanese restaurant I've been to and highly recommend this place! read more
