Juice pairing
Vivian L.

I was very excited to try Archipelago as it's been on a lot of "best of Seattle" lists recently but I think it's overhyped. Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious and service was excellent but I just don't think it was worth the money. There were some very delicious bites and some innovative ideas, along with tidbits about Filipino-American history in Seattle, but overall it wasn't a huge meal and the ingredients used didn't seem that crazy expensive compared to an omakase sushi restaurant which is usually more around $200. We paid about $800 for two people which included a juice pairing (for one but they let us split it). My favorite dish was their take on adobo chicken which was really good. I wish they gave more of that. I did appreciate that they will let you have seconds of the main course if you're still hungry. The juice pairing was fun, but ultimately not all the juices tastes that good and it was insanely expensive. I wish they integrated their Filipino stories more with the actual dishes. The dishes were mostly just said to be inspired by someone in the community but they didn't really connect the actual dishes to each person.

If Yelp told me today I could rate one restaurant a 6 out of 5, but only one with no hesitation I would say Archipelago. Long on my list but challenging to get into I finally was able to make reservations for the last week of their winter menu. This is why none of my pictures have captions because by the time you read this you will have a completely different menu. After securing my reservation and accepting the dining insurance I was greeted with the most comprehensive list of food preferences I've ever seen in my life asking everything from allergies to intolerances to just I don't like this thing. Four days before my reservation I received a text asking for clarification on the listed allergies with a few more specific details. My friend and I arrived promptly at our meal time and entered to find a space that was cozy and not any bigger than most omakase restaurants. Seated at an impressive bar top where little shelves for our phones awaited we had prime spots to watch the cooking in action. Best seats in the house! The food was utterly amazing. It was an utter delight of culinary mastery challenging my perception of what technique could do with food. Smoked noodles? Root vegetables in a dessert? A drink that tasted like chocolate that had no chocolate? Every single bite was more delicious than the last! I ate the most tender geoduck and I didn't even know geoduck could be that tender! Every two dishes were perfectly paired with fabulous wines. Let's talk service. I've been to numerous fine dining restaurants and never have I been to one that is as genuinely warm and caring as Archipelago staff. We had the pleasure of Justin, the newest Chef de Cuisine, at our meal telling us all about the techniques and stories. I personally loved the stories as I want to learn and found the history behind the dishes to be interesting and informative. For my friend, whose grandparents immigrated to Alaska from the Philippines, the stories provided context to dishes he loved. Everyone took food allergies very seriously but never let the allergy detract from the experience. Far too often it is simply deduction and it is fine but meh. At Archipelago they approached food allergies like a challenge providing creative solutions or different approaches to accomplish the intent with stunning satisfaction. Archipelago is the only restaurant to offer second helping with no additional fee. They checked in several times asking on a scale one to five how hungry we still were. I happily accepted more pork and rice and was thrilled as it was soooo good! TLDR; Archipelago is indeed a love letter to the Filipino community but also one anyone who loves food should read. You will experience a meal unlike any other provided you are open, forthcoming, and curious. You will find the most genuine and caring staff. My heart and stomach are both full tonight.

Printed quote included with the take-home gift muffin. This kind of messaging accompanied every course and distracted from the food.

Paid $700 for two people, no drink pairing, and left frustrated. This was billed as a high-end tasting menu, but the food simply did not justify the price. Protein was minimal and underwhelming: one scallop, a few small shrimp, and a pork dish so modest that the guest next to us actually laughed when it was served. The menu leaned heavily on carbs and inexpensive ingredients. No luxury components you'd expect at this price point. No wow moments. Innovative ideas, sure, but nothing that felt like $350 a seat. What really sank the experience was the constant storytelling. Every course (every course) came with a heavy, depressing narrative about hardship, poverty, or exploitation. At some point, it stopped being dinner and started feeling like a lecture. We're here to eat, not be emotionally bludgeoned between bites. The takeaway gift a cornbread muffin paired with a printed manifesto summed it up perfectly: lots of messaging, very little payoff. My girlfriend and I spent the rest of the night talking about how unpleasant the experience was, to the point that it genuinely ruined the evening. The good: Service was exceptional. Truly top-tier hospitality. Plating was beautiful, and despite our complaints, the decor actually worked. Bottom line: This place leans hard into progressive cultural signaling at the expense of the food itself. If this were $100-125 per person, maybe. At $350 a head, absolutely not. We're happy to pay for great dining, but this was not it. - Would not recommend.

Archipelago is a great tasting menu experience in Seattle that everyone should try at least once. We came for my birthday dinner and had a wonderful time. Every staff member makes an effort to make the meal special, from the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave. I enjoyed how each course was also served with a piece of history. They do a great job of tying the dish and the ingredients to Filipino history. We opted for the juice pairing but decided to share, and thankfully, they accommodated. The servers poured us each a glass per course (about half a glass, since we split the pairing). The same thoughtfulness that goes into the menu goes into the juices; I'd recommend adding this pairing. The food is wonderful. There's a mix of tastes; tangy, sweet, savory, bitter, but all delicious. I liked the presentation as well. My favorite bites of the night were probably the scallop and the PNW champorado. I thought it was sweet that they send you home with an extra bite. I only realized this after going home, but they've prepped an entire website full of research for each menu iteration, so you can read up on how they were inspired to create a dish. Love the thought that went into this experience and I would highly recommend to anyone considering.

One of the most memorable dining experiences I've had in Seattle! From the moment you walk through the nondescript door you're welcomed like family, and your senses are treated to a multi-course meal prepared right in front of you. We could feel the passion and precision that they have for their craft, and it's this attention to details that bring out the flavors of every ingredient, whether it's the delicate sweetness of fruits, the savory tenderness of beef, or the refreshing brininess of seafood. Every course was delicious without being overpowering, and every course had a story. We have a new appreciation for Filipino history here in Seattle and throughout the world, and it was that paying homage that really elevated the dinner. Speaking of elevating, the one thing that really sets this place apart is their service. Every person in the kitchen and dining room is knowledgeable, attentive, friendly, and will do whatever it takes to make your dinner experience the best. Shout out to Isabel who took care of us most of the evening, many thanks for making our dinner extra special! Now at $250/person we won't be going back every week, and I wish Archipelago was in a more desirable neighborhood. But there's no doubt this place left a lasting impression on me that I would recommend everyone experience.

This experience was a love letter to the Filipino community in Seattle. From when you enter the restaurant to when you leave, you are meet with smiles, warmth, and people who love their craft. As an 1st gen Fil/Chi-Am the experience was so touching. An ode to the Filipino community in Seattle, each dish made with heart and enriched with purpose and history. Not to even mention the warmth and overall ambiance of what reminds me of my Lola's house. When you enter the experience you come in as if you are part of the kapamiliya and leave as one

How would I explain the food, experience, and service at Archipelago to someone who has never been? Take the flavors of Filipino cuisine and use local ingredients to recreate and add unique elements that delights the palate. For each dish, incorporate a historical reference that's rooted in Philippine culture and photo a slide that inspired the dish. Pair the meal with local wines that perfectly complements the flavors. And finally, garnish with a touch of world renowned Filipino hospitality. Oh, and make sure to offer seconds or thirds. Archipelago is an intimate dining experience with seating for up to 12. There are 2 seating times and we were able to secure the 4 seat table on the side for 5:30 PM. What immediately stood out upon entering Archipelago was how the staff made us feel. We were not just guests, we were "kapamilya" (family). The food was utterly amazing as it was not just about the flavors and presentation. Each course was personally introduced by a staff member with an accompanying story of inspiration and photo slide in reference of the historical figure. The courses had familiar flavors of Filipino cuisine and had a variance of textures. The menu features 10 courses and we opted for the wine pairings. One memorable moment during dinner was when the staff offered seconds and thirds. They made sure no one left hungry. Final impressions, we were provided with the menu list of all the courses, wine pairings, and historical figures referenced during the meal. We also received a small box of cookies as a parting gift and thank you. I cannot recommend this place enough. Truly a unique experience.

This is in my top 3 dining experiences of all time. The food is delicious - that almost feels like table stakes when you see how elevated the service is. It's all choreographed to perfection so you never have an empty plate in front of you. And the story telling, props and presentation elevate the dining experience to the next level. Keep your eyes peeled though - the entrance is so non descript and easy to miss

Part II: As the night began to end, our seven servers/reciters were (re)introduced: Chef Aaron, Paula, Isabelle, Joshua, Harlan, Chyna, Ethan. Our table had been served by each of them throughout the night, and each had taken turns introducing each course with an oration tied to the title of the course, to explain the significance as it related to Filipino heritage (many of which was tied to the Pacific Northwest). The entire 2+ hours was a performance, where the diners/audience need to be willing participants/learners. Yes, the food was the most important piece, but this experience was so much more than just that. The night ended with a take-home dessert ('food for the gods', a traditional Filipino dessert), beautifully packaged in a gift box. The food menu was included in a keepsake 'thank you' card, along with a souvenir postcard. Isabelle did not forget my request for the wine and juice lists (mainly so I could do this review). Chef Aaron came out to talk to us as the night ended. He asked about the barongs that my daughter and son-in-law were wearing, how it was worn during part of their wedding one year ago. He spent time talking to the one Filipino in our party (my daughter), asking about her history and sharing a little of his. I felt like a parent again, taking pictures and even (cringe) a little video of my child, interacting with a celebrity. To cap it off, once Chef Aaron recognized how much our party loved the Raspberry, Tomato, Corn juice, he asked the maker (Joshua, who we learned was a trainee) to give us a take home bottle. Chef Aaron pointed us to some other Filipino fine dining restaurants that he would recommend, two of which I've gone to (Kasama in Chicago, Kuya Lord in LA) and not (Animae in San Diego). If there is one thing that Archipelago taught me, was that it is possible for a restaurant to provide an unforgettable dining experience by promoting a topic that has personal significance to the diner (what's more personal and important than your heritage), and have such a force apply so strongly to you, as if it was meant just for your family. I've only felt this at home cooked meals (for better or worse) before. This review on Yelp can't do justice the amount of joy and goodwill I felt as I left Archipelago that night. It's an emotion I want to clearly remember (and hopefully feel) when I read these words again in the coming years.

Impeccable service and ambience, but at this price point I would have expected better food - it doesn't compare to the European or the Japanese one Michelin star restaurants.

Weird, I think my Yelp app is broken because it's not letting me give 6 stars on this review. Whatever I guess. Anyways -- Archipelago will always be a special meal memory for me. From the moment you walk in the door until you leave after the experience is done, all of the staff treat you like family. Every single course was meaningful and represented different messages from Filipino heritage and history. All of the courses were creative, flavorful, fresh, and SOOOO cohesive. The wine pairing was immaculate as well and really elevated the dining experience. I'm not really one to repeat restaurants, but I know for a fact that this will be the first reservation I make next time I come to Seattle. If you enjoy good food and good people, this absolutely needs to be on your to-do list. Thank me later.

This was my favorite dining experience during our visit to Seattle. If Michelin were to come to Seattle, I definitely think Archipelago deserves a star. Everyone was so nice and I really enjoyed the Filipino culture and stories behind each dish. My favorite dishes were the salmon kilawin, short rib, and ribeye. Before the last savory dish, they asked everyone how full we were (5 being most full). My husband and I were the only ones with 1's - we got a chuckle out of that. The PNW "chocolate" dessert was great too - really tripped me out that there was not actual chocolate in it. My husband and I shared the juice and wine pairing. I enjoyed all the juices, with my favorite being the cherry one. They were also able to accommodate a red wine pairing (our personal preference). P.S. If you sit at the bar, don't forget your stuff underneath like I did! :)

Overall, this was an amazing dinner! The food was amazing, each course was unique and different from anything else in Seattle. But each dish came with a story of the inspiration or celebration of the dish which I appreciated. Sitting at the chef's counter, the team operated as a well oiled machine in their preparation of the next course. Chef Aaron and the entire staff were warm, friendly and hospitable which made this meal and the evening even more special. Overall, an amazing evening. Many thanks to the team for the great evening!

We decided to head over here at 8 am on a Sunday, and there was STILL a line. Thankfully, the wait for us that early morning was only about 15 mins, but upon our walk out after eating, we noticed the line was nearly halfway down the block. Some people must have waited closer to an hour. Maybe show up as early as you can in the morning if you don't want to wait too long. We ordered the Corned Beef Silog, Combo Silog, and the Ube Pancake stack. The stack might look like a little, but even sharing it, we got really full. Those pancakes are DELICIOUS. Just make sure not to run out of the Ube syrup, or the pancakes themselves will be a little dry. We made that mistake, but the pancakes alone were still tasty. Highly recommend if you like taro-ish flavor or want something sweet. The food overall was delicious, it was about my second time trying lumpia and omg sooo good. One of the servers was kind enough to explain to us which part of the Philippines each of the sausages in the combo plate originates from. One was from the Northern part of the Philippines (think it's the Ilocos sausage, reddish color) and the other one was the classic longanisa. I got a calamansi juice and ommmgggg sooo delicious, I had never had it before, and now I've gotta figure out how to buy some to enjoy at home. The servers were all friendly and attentive, and the place itself was clean and inviting, with lots of nods to Filipino culture and the family that runs the restaurant. Highly recommend if you're looking for a good-quality, hearty Filipino breakfast. Depending on what you get, be prepared for a food coma afterward!

These are the best wings in Seattle…read more I first tried the Sinigang wings from here in the CID food walk - about a year ago. I was shocked at how good they were, compared to all the other food I had that day. And so I've been trying to get these again ever since then, and finally made it happen. This time, I got them drenched in hot honey (+$3 addon), because why not. These are just spectacular. Even with the copious, viscous hot honey weighing it down - they're still so damn crispy. I shudder to think how unbelievably crispy these would be without the hot honey, but that might ruin crispy wings for me forever - so it's probably good I didn't get that. The frying on these is perfect - from the craggly edges, to the blisters on the skin - everything is phenomenal. The skin turns a deep golden brown that's completely irresistible. It's also crazy how consistent every inch of skin is across all eight wings. What's also super impressive is the meatiness. Most of the wings are large, and have a ton of dark meat to them. And the inside is just perfect - super juicy and arguably some of the best wing meat I've ever had. It's so, so addicting. I could eat sixteen of these wings and be happy. Oh yeah, and the hot honey is amazing as well. Normally, it lands on the sweeter side, but the one here manages to strike the absolute perfect balance between being pretty spicy and having that viscous, sweet, syrupy nature. If all hot honey was like this, I could understand why it became such a big phenomenon. The level of additional flavor it adds to the chicken is remarkable. For eight wings, the cost was just 16 dollars (excluding hot honey) - which is pretty cheap considering how large these are and how good these are. Overall, I don't think it's close that these are the best wings I've had in the city. 9.25/10

The Fried Oink Oink Adobo was tangy, rich, and satisfying, though I was surprised it didn't come with a side of rice. For drinks, the Pandan Old Fashioned was well-made with a subtle pandan flavor that complemented rather than overpowered the cocktail. Service was friendly and efficient, and all of the food arrived fresh and surprisingly quickly. The atmosphere is vibrant and casual, with a comfortable dining room and a few bar seats. Our office gets a list of the weekly offerings on Monday, so when I heard that later in the week there would be Salu-Salo Filipino Kitchen, bringing Filipino food, I most definitely made lunch plans. I was coming in from a meeting in Fremont, so didn't go to the pop-up/Salu-Salo Filipino Kitchen as soon as it started service (around 11am). With that said, I nearly missed out on the chicken adobo! I took the last of the chicken adobo an hour and a half after the lunch service started, so was counting my blessings! I ordered the lunch plate, which came with chicken adobo, pancit, rice and pickled veggies. My lunch plate was solid. Chicken adobo was tender and really, really liked how vinegar-y the flavor was, which, any Filipino would tell you that all food tastes better with vinegar! Pancit wasn't bad, but not the best. Some of the noodles were on the dry side, but I did like the cabbage and green onion throughout. Pickled veggies were a nice addition, adding more sour flavor to the overall entree. For someone who hardly ever has Filipino food and desperately misses mom's cooking, I was just happy to have Salu-Salo bring some adobo to the area. I would definitely recommend checking out Salu-Salo if you ever see their stand around. They don't update their social media channels, unfortunately, so is a little difficult to find where their stand will be. And when I asked if they participate in any markets, they do not. But the owners did mention that they visit downtown Seattle often at other office buildings around. Therefore, I have a feeling I'll be seeing them soon and getting my Filipino cuisine on. For example, my favorite dish on the menu is the Laing Express, which is made with coconut milk, taro leaves, topped with a delicious crispy piece of pork belly. With a topping of pork belly, how could anything go wrong? This dish has an amazing earthy flavor, with a bit of a kick to it. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. How often to you get to eat purple desserts? Ube cake gets its color from purple yams! Salu-Salo's ube coconut topped ube cheesecake balls are not just adorable, they are addicting. Not overwhelmingly sweet, and perfect for sharing, these are a treat. For those with dietary restrictions, Salu-Salo is a great option because there are plenty choices. As someone who is gluten free, all of the main dishes are fair game. This is often very rare when dining out for me!! Here's to Salu-Salo for exposing Seattleites to what Filipino food is all about. Rosario's cuisine feels like a healthy take on comfort food. Each dish bursting with flavor, yet still accessible to all ages. The idea behind comfort food is all about the thought that goes into the prep. After tasting Salu-Salo's food, I promise you can tell a lot of care goes into the preparation of each dish. I am looking forward to this becoming a Seattle institution, and hope it inspires more Filipino cuisine to start popping up in the PNW.

It's weird but so good. - 8pcs Chicken half spicy: 4.7/5 it was really good. The half spicy was really good, not spicy to me but that's not unusual. Got hot sauce in the side and it was really tasty! - Mochi Cake: 10/5 so freaking good! Service was fantastic and the inside is really cute. Small but welcoming. TL:DR: Is it cheap? No. But it's a gluten free fried chicken that is actually good, the sides are bomb, and the price for the value is there.

Kaboom! Best fried chicken I've ever seen or eaten. Yes, one look at all the pieces (ordered the…read more8pc) and you can see beauty in its creation and attention to detail. Got the half spicy half normal and dusting of spice was perfect. The fact that this is gluten free (which is fantastic for all GF folks in our family) is even more Amazing how they got everything right with the crunch and flavor. Potato skins and garlic rice were good too, though less garlic would have been better. Could easily make this into a garlic egg fried rice and larger portions. The staff were super attentive and took time to explain everything to first time visitors. Steady stream of take out orders as seating is limited. Would come back to try the other sides too. Happy to report no reaction for gluten free member of our family, top marks for safety.
