You can taste the lack of preservatives and freshness in a way that is so rare in our society (everything, dough and sauces included, handmade). Flavors are rich and delectable. It's been a while since we visited here, but my goodness it feels like eating at my grandma's (in the very best way). It's a little family-run shop that has so many gorgeous basil, begonia, and pothos everywhere. The whipped feta eggs are heavenly and, even though I don't normally love sausage, the kofte are so good and rich. The homemade desserts are gorgeous and we couldn't resist getting some tiramisu and torta pie. It's so chill and a great place to get a very late brunch (we went in at 1:30). As soon as we walked into Arber Cafe, we were greeted by a big smile by the Owner's daughter. If you are looking to try Albanian food - this is a good spot to try! We tried the Petulla,fried dough with pistachios & drizzled honey,it was delicious! We also tried the Bryke with spinach. It was crisp and fresh! For the mains, we tried the special for the day which was goat cheese and olive spread on the bread topped with sunny side eggs and salad. It was well made with fresh ingredients. I loved the cafe! Live plants everywhere, beautiful photos, and a drawing of the owner in her cafe which I thought added such a powerful touch! And then you smell the food! The best deluxe gyro I have ever had!! The pita, warm with the best cool a texture. The meat that I could smell the second she handed me the bag! Fresh tomatoes and cucumbers! Creamy delicious feta and Arbers yogurt sauce that was top notch! It seemed like the owner was the cook and the one serving me! Arber Cafe is an Albanian coffee shop and cafe in South St. Louis. We went there on a Sunday instead of going to a more well known brunch spot that was overcrowded a block away. We were pleasantly surprised with the excellent service, authentic food, and delicious coffee. We tried Byrek and the Arber breakfast which featured scrambled eggs with feta, Albanian meatballs, fried potatoes, bread, and homemade jam. Everything was absolutely delicious and plentiful. Wonderful food! Definitely worth trying. I enjoyed the Albanian food. It is so stick-to-your ribs delicious and filling. This restaurant has limited hours in the evenings on weekends. It is located on the corner and you order from a menu at a bar and then find a seat in their small dining room. I fell in love with the service from sweet Eli in addition to the atmosphere, the fresh coffee, the desserts and homemade breakfast. Cute tables and bench, fresh herbs, honestly homemade. There is no comparable food like this. Every other breakfast place is the same but this is not. You can't beat it. The prices are perfect. The spices are perfect. And it's super healthy. I've been driving by this place for the last few years since moving to south city and it's always been a place I wanted to try! I'm so happy I decided to swing in today because my goodnessssssss this might be my new spot!! I've never had Albanian food, and I have to say my first experience was TOP NOTCH. The woman working the counter www so sweet and kind and really helped me with the menu. I ended up getting the Ali Pash and the Petulla as dessert. The food and service was absolutely amazing. The owners were very friendly and brought out our food directly to us. We enjoyed everything we ate, it was all very fresh. Firstly we each had a cappuccino which were great, and they came with fresh cinnamon. The Capellini Feta pasta was amazing, and so was the Mediterranean Bowl. The menu has such a large variety, of both Albanian and Italian cuisines covering all of your breakfast and lunch needs. It is a family owned and operated business and you can tell how much they care about the quality of their food. They are very flexible with customizations and levels of seasoning on their food. The daughter of the owners is extremely friendly, connecting with every guest, and creating a very inviting experience. Their Americanos will beat anybody else hands down. Just moved to south city so in checking out my new neighborhood spots I came to Arber for some coffee and treats. You guys- I am in love! Growing up where I did (in NY) there were cafes like this all over. Albanian, Greek, middle eastern, Italian- always small, with the matriarch running the show while the men sit huddled around a table or sometimes outside smoking. Arber is one of those very rare gems where you feel like you're stepping into a families kitchen to share a meal. Setting itself apart, Arber is impossibly clean and incredibly inviting. If my emotional gushing isn't enough to convince you, I am convinced they have the best latte in STL. Granted I haven't tried every single coffee shop- this is as good as it gets and I am kind of a snob in the coffee department. It is smooth, and perfectly steamed so that the milk imparts that slightly nutty flavor and you can actually taste it since the espresso is smooth and not overly acidic. No need to get vanilla or sugar added, this is perfection in a cup! The Turkish coffee was a little on the light side for me- I'm used to essentially chewing mine, but what I'm used to could also be very wrong. It could also be a result of them trying to appease filling a to go cup since I ordered it to go, which no one should ever do to Turkish coffee. The treats were so lovely! The Albanian kisses remind me of mini Alfejores (Argentinian cookies) and the baklava while wetter than I expected (take extra napkins!) was also richer than I expected. I can put my finger on what was different but it was a slightly deeper flavor. They have a small food menu which I now regret not ordering from, but won't be waiting too long to go back for. Lastly- I will say that the prices for the product are beyond reasonable. I got a latte, Turkish coffee, a cup of specialty cookies and 2 pieces of baklava for what you'd spend on a latte at a far lesser coffee spot. And you get kind service from someone who will even run out from behind the counter to help you with the door. This is a gem of a find and I cannot recommend stopping in enough. read more
