I've been here a couple of times. I definitely love getting the bubble tea here but the flavors are not too consistent. The parking is metered street parking. The inside of the place is nice and bright with a lot of wood decor. On the counter they have snacks you can eat. There's also a display to the left when you enter that has cakes and macaroons. The taro bubble tea they make is great. However, I got mango today. I've previously gotten it before but today tasted a bit strange when it's usually sweet. The boba/tapioca is softer than most but still has a nice chew to it. I've also had the cakes here. The strawberry sponge cake tastes GREAT. It's fluffy and not too sweet which I absolutely love. I really wish they had it today, but they didn't. Today, I tried their tiramisu but it wasn't as fluffy. It was actually pretty thick even though tiramisu is supposed to be light. Therefore, it made it difficult to eat. I've came here with a friend and it's definitely a nice place to grab a coffee or bubble tea and just chat - especially because most of the time it's quiet. You could study here, but the seats are not too comfy. It will be quiet for you though. The employees here are nice. They always have a smile on their face which is nice. However, I don't find this place too special. It's just good when you're around the area or live around the area and have a craving for bubble tea. read more

How do you not know how to make an iced mocha latte??????? You dont add chocolate syrup to ice cold milk cuz it doesnt melt. You are supposed to put the espresso over the chocolate! Small and cute coffee shop that Rutherford really needed. I mean, Erie Coffeeshop & Bakery IS around the corner, but I'd rather eat their baked goods when I go there than focus on coffee haha. I only quickly walked in for a cold brew, but they have baked goods and bubble tea as well (huuuggeee plus as this would be the closest place from home that has bubble tea). Well, I'm glad there's a much needed coffee shop just off Park Ave. It has great potential but ultimately falls short. It is clean, nicely designed with a good assortment of coffee and deserts but once I saw the "bubble tea" sign I should have went with my gut and left. The coffee tasted stale as did the croissant. When the physical environment screens "new" but everything tastes old, there's a problem. I wish this place luck but I'm not sure it's sustainable unless they up their game and serve great fresh coffee. read more

I thought there's a law in NJ that when a cafe/restaurant has a table and chairs for eating and drinking the establishment must provide a bathroom for customers. This place doesn't allow paying customers to use the bathroom. Also annoying, they usually don't have half & half and never have cream. Cheese cakes always taste stale. My kid usually insists we go there. Not anymore. I refuse now. Have to always find a place to use the bathroom after. Not convenient at all. read more

They have Nitrobrew and it's delicious!! I have been looking for Nitro coffee throughout Bergen county, NJ and have only come across if at the Closter Commons Starbucks. Came here the other day after getting the lunch special at Boom Boom. It's a cute little asian coffee/pastry cafe. Some pastries are from Balthazar. It also sells bubble tea if you're interested. It's clean, large glass windows with nice sunlight. No one in the cafe at lunchie, but wouldn't have minded to sit for a bit (... but I didn't, just a thought lol). A small $3.75 was like a large! Was very ecstatic about the large portion. I'm not a coffee aficionado, but the latte was good-- not too strong/bold, nice balance between milk & espresso. Ara is such a cute cafe, I could only imagine what it looked like before covid.. but I can't wait to see what it looks like in the future the coffee is strong, the taro bubble tea is the best I've ever had (and I'm in the city all the time) the tapioca bubbles are softly Java flavored in a way so they don't have an abrupt artificial taste. Derek knows his coffee - he'll tell you about what climate it grows in, it's acidity, and it's chemical profile. I suggest not putting any sugar in his coffee- in fact non is needed- you can really taste undertones and overtones of each bean the way it's intended to be consumed and it is not bitter at all. I know my coffee, and I've had some of the most expensive roasts in the world and Ara's drip coffee is on par if not better than most of those bouge roasts. I picked up a vanilla latte from here today and it was magical 5 hours later writing this review my mouth is still thanking me for stoping in. They roast their own coffee on sight and they do it right. They do a light roast which I appreciate because every other joe smoe that opens up a coffee shop picks up some burnt ass beans and thinks that is the true taste of coffee. Excuse me.. I have only heard about this restaurant recently and wish I have sooner! This coffee Shop has one of the best smoothies with boba toppings. Today I had a mango smoothie with boba and a blue berry muffin. My first order there was a strawberry smoothie with boba and it was so refreshing and cold and made it even more delicious with the boba. The service is pretty quick and the shop itself it very cute with all decorations and very cute designs. It's a hidden gem! Photos tell it all but what a beautiful set up. Plenty of street parking $1 per hour- make sure you have quarters or dimes. Ada coffee has a nice tea selection, freshly made coffee both drip and French press. They also have lattes cappuccino and bubble tea. No sandwiches but they have baked goods. I use to go to Erie coffee & Bakery for my coffee but once I found this place that all changed. 1) Customer service is great. The owner is always so sweet and accommodating. Honestly that's part of the reason I return. He genuinely cares about the coffee he prepares and checks to see if I like it. I love ARA coffee! The owner is great and clearly cares about his product. This is not actually a criticism, but an appreciation, but I asked if he would sell me some espresso beans, but he said he couldn't because he only roasted enough for the shop. The reason being, he roasts them every 3 days or so because espresso beans don't keep very well and he didn't want to sell me a subpar product (but because he has great service he said if I came often enough maybe we could work something out, he just didn't want me keeping the beans for weeks). The Americano here is aromatic and smooth, no bitter after taste. I've bought coffee beans as gifts for family and friends and they all rave about it. Really great coffee that's super close to the Rutherford train station. The two drip coffees I had, the Guatemala and the Ethiopia, were both outstanding and the coffee beans were very affordable to purchase, coming in at roughly $6/$7 a bag. Try and get to know Derek the owner, he's the bomb! He's not only super knowledgeable about coffee and will give you solid recommendations, but he is also a master craftsman who did all the shop's exquisite woodwork himself! Excellent bubble tea and customer service. Came in for a green tea bubble tea. After great customer service, the tea came promptly, with a great smoothie consistency but not too icy/watery; the green tea was milky and flavorful. Only gripe is the slightly-too-chewy tapioca, but I'm just nitpicking. Considering I recently had a bubble tea in Flushing that was lower quality than this, I'd consider Ara's bubble tea to be New York quality without the crowds and rude service. I used to get a double shot of expression over ice and paid close to $4 for it. Never thought about it until I saw the sign outside that said $2.50 for a double shot. I'm not a fan of bubble tea slush (which is the type of bubble tea they make) so I'm not rating them on that. The cafe itself is clean, bright, and rustic chic.
