While out on my morning walk, came across this gem of a coffee shop, now please note the store was not open yet but there was a line of regulars patiently waiting outside before it opened so I knew I had to try this place and boy was it great! First off: a very simple coffee menu (no Starbucks or Dutch Bros foo foo stuff here) just real Italian coffee. I ordered a macchiato with a double shot of espresso I noticed the pastries and you can't have a great Italian coffee without a delicious pastry. Sat down to enjoy my coffee and pastry a wonderful and delicate smell: freshly baked croissants, and other pastry goodies soooooo I had to enjoy another pastry and again, it was delicious. I have traveled extensively for work and pleasure. Everywhere I visit, I search for the best coffee/espresso. When I say it's difficult to find a good spot that offers consistent quality, I can promise I'm not exaggerating. I've only ever found one place in Washington DC that made anything close to this in North America. I look forward to traveling from Kansas to NJ just to have a Caffè Roma cappuccino. It is perfection. Smooth. Hot. You don't need to add any flavor or sugar. A topping of cinnamon is all I would advise. The owner and staff are so kind and attentive. The gentleman behind the counter was very courteous, making an outstanding latte! The atmosphere is very cozy, and I felt very comfortable while I enjoyed my breakfast. If you're looking for an authentic Italian spot in the heart of NJ, this is just the spot for you. The first time I tried the coffee here I knew I would be returning often. The cappuccino's are amazing, and taste exactly as they do in Rome. Definitely the best coffee I've had in all of NJ. The owners are the nicest people and are very warm and welcoming. They have done an excellent job at building their own community at this spot. Cannot rave enough about the coffee and the service. Typically an establishment that is around for a long time does so because they have a core competency and they are damn good at it. From consistent ongoing execution that can survive through the times. Unfortunately, I didn't see this at Roma. The pastries (cheese cake and tiramisu) were slight below average. The cappuccino was your standard affair. I'd say the menu is a 3* but since they have really good service, I'm going to to with a 4*. read more

If you don't look closely, you will miss this gem, and that would be an absolute shame. I have been stopping here for several years with family members to pick up quick coffees. We go out of our way to do so, as the coffees are absolutely phenomenal. Cappuccino, americano, latte...you name it, and it's wonderful. Prices are a bargain and the staff is courteous and friendly. If you want to feel as if you are in Italy without crossing the Atlantic you have to stop and have the best espresso in the country at Caffe Roma. Mike the owner and his staff are awesome, friendly, and just always go above and beyond. After my previous experience here, I persuaded a couple of girl friends to get the tea they wanted here, but it's impossible to get lured by the $3 lattes & cappuccinos here! I remember the crunchy freshly filled cannolis here, not too sweet & soft & creamy... so0o delish, my favs. And we had tried a new one that looked like a muffin but had a hint of lemon flavor, not at all overpowering & a had lightly sweet filling. We arrived there, place empty around 7:30pm & then people started filling up the place by 8:30-9:00pm. We hung out here for 2 hrs... I'm assuming the lady at the counter is one of the owners. She only spoke Italian and limited English. She was so amiable and sweet! The menu is very limited. Well, there really isn't a menu. They only serve beverages and pastries. The iced coffee I ordered was delicious, and it was homemade! I would definitely recommend it! The iced coffee was actually chilled in a freezer so it was kind of slushy and then she added milk. So, it tasted like a frappucino. Refreshing and tasty! Their cappuccino was classic and good, too. The woman at the counter was very friendly, although it was hard to understand her because she is not fluent in English. I ordered a cappuccino (it was $3 and there's only one size - 12oz) It. was freshly made with cinnamon on top! Mmmmm They basically have an assortment of pastries, ice cream bars, coffee, iced coffee, lattes, macchiatos, espressos, hot chocolate and cappuccino. That's about it. I got coffee here once and it was good coffee. This place is a convenience store mostly. I know it isn't the fault of the owners but in this new covid world I am very annoyed by the patrons of this place gathering on the sidewalk with out a mask and smoking while people walking by are trying to be socially distance. I'm so happy they have a window that they can serve patrons without having them enter the establishment. This is a small coffee shop with 6 or so small tables lining a long narrow cafe space. it offers old world Italy cafe sweets... biscotti, elephant ears, and possibly taralli (not sure if that's what they were). A 12oz cappuccino and 3 small biscotti came to $4 - a bargain price for an afternoon caffeine break and snack. The decor is a bit older but with a "well-loved" feeling - not "shabby" or "run down". I sat working from about 3-5:15pm one evening, and felt like I was sitting on the edge of an Italian family gathering. Two kids and the wife of one employee stopped in to say a quick hello to their dad. The other patrons are obviously a "usuals" crowd, each saying hello to the kids and asking about the older one's favorite ice cream flavor. They didn't mind my lingering, and all started friendly conversation with me once I started packing up to leave. A few savory items, sandwiches or soups would be welcome additions to round out this establishment. That being said, I'd be perfectly happy to go back as it stands. I was in town to visit some friends the other weekend, and i know my buddies pop always stops in this place for an espresso. I've heard it a great little cafe, so i figured i'd stop by and check it out for a caffeine pregame fix. What a great spot!! Id be here every day if i lived nearby. They have a small TV, and a small selection of fresh pastries, which i highly recommend to go along with your espresso. I ordered up a double latte, made to perfection, and grabbed a samll pastry to balance the flavors out. It was perfection. As for ambiance. the place is fantastic. It has a small neighborhood appeal, quiet with one table of Italian gentleman who seem to be well known in the cafe hanging out enjoying each others company; for a moment i felt as though i was on the set of a movie. The owner was very nice , and in the background the TV was abuzz with Italian News.
