Such a cute place fairly close to the main Montclair area! It's definitely not a sit-down place but rather a grab and go shop, but it is still very quaint. The barista was nice and quick with our order. We both got a caramel latte, one with almond milk and with regular one; they were both okay and definitely satisfied our coffee craving. Our total was 13.99 which seemed a bit much for two small coffees. I think it's a nice spot to have if you live nearby. read more

Cute coffee shop in area with their own uniquely crafted signature drinks. Definitely look at their chalk board of specials. I got their Baby bi bi bi which is a vanilla matcha latte with vanilla cold foam and chocolate drizzle. I customized the drink to my liking and changed the vanilla cold foam for lavender cold foam and did it half sweet with soy milk. It was perfect to for my liking and the flavors went so well together. Probably one of the best lattes I have had! They also have day old pastries at the counter for $2 which is still very fresh. Been here a few times, so decided to stop in again today, as it was cold, rainy, and dreary and I needed a coffee. This shop is easy to miss if you're not looking for it. The interior is charming and inviting, and the staff are always pleasant, kind, and helpful. Relaxing music plays from the speakers, the smell of coffee permeates the air, and various baked goods are available for purchase. Patrons are also very friendly each time, given the inviting nature of the shop. I usually opt for the latte, which is consistently satisfying. It is never bitter, always smooth, and packed with deep, rich, flavor. Today was no different. For a laid-back, charming, place to grab a great coffee, you can't go wrong here. read more

I am so happy this little café exists. I had purchased a red "love child" baseball cap the first time I was ever at Java love in 2017-2018 along with an ice coffee I'm almost sure. Today I had an amazing matcha. The cutest little barista surprised me with the choice of milk (which I had asked her to do) and it was "amassssing." The vibes inside are super earthy and chill and it's located next to the cutest flower shop. 10/10 would recommend. Thank you for surprising me, I really needed that. read more

Needed some coffee while I was in NJ, and this place definitely hits the spot! I definitely missed local coffee shops like this and was amazed how delicious my drink was (iced mocha latte). Java Love clearly has a good business model. They've expanded and are doing plenty well for themselves. Everything about the place centers around love. The decor, the drinks, the coffee. The first time I had a latte here it was delicious The second time not so good, the barista kept checking the recipe on the board? So obviously not familiar with menu.. But I figured she new so I went back third time ..silly me to assume it would be like the first time.. It was not good. I won't go back .. Just wish the owners would train all baristas to learn the recipes for their coffee drinks, there are not that many.. Very disappointing read more

Top notch coffee spot! Super friendly kids working and lots of homegrown touches and comfortable welcoming decor that you hope for in an independent cafe. There was a great custom board of seasonal drinks I can't remember the name but I had the red eye, mocha, cayenne, cinnamon, and oat milk. IT WAS AMAZING. I wish I could have tried more. the chocolate chip scone was delicious as well. There was plenty of space inside for all the patrons to enjoy their drinks without feeling cramped or rushed. Nice part of town lots of things within walking distance but I will definitely be going out of my way to come back and try some of the other drinks. read more

We drove an hour to come here and it was less than 20 degrees Fahrenheit out. We came on the pretense that they had prepared food and heated outdoor seating. When we got there, none of the heaters were turned on. We also found out that none of the NJ locations had prepared food, just pastries. So we were hungry but just decided to get lattes. We also decided not to get beans because there were no 'roasted by' dates on them. I had to tell the employee three different times that I wanted two lattes, one with almond milk and the other with oat milk. He first thought i wanted both almond, then both oat and then there was an understanding that it would be one of each. But when we got our order, it was two oat milk lattes, and somehow one of them was sweetened, even though I didn't order sweetened at all. We still drank them, as I'd prefer not to waste, but it was a bit of a mediocre experience. For the positive, the lattes were still quite good and service was friendly. read more

My approval for a coffee spot rests on the basic cup of coffee. While many enjoy lattes and such, I always like to seek out a place that simply makes a good cup of joe. Java Love fits the bill. And of course, they have the fancier drinks too (and snacks). Located next to the 'someday reopening' Bellevue Theater, Java Love definitely has a specialty-neighborhood-coffee shop vibe going. Also, kudos for adjusting to Covid winter, making an effort to keep their outdoor customers comfortable with heating lamps and socially-distant chairs and benches. (The interior has seats, but it's takeout only at this time). read more

I tried this for the first time today and really loved the atmosphere. I had to get some work done and the music was a little loud, but that's easily remedied by using headphones. I ordered an extra hot gingerbread chai and the flavor was good and it was made very quickly which was nice, but it wasn't hot. If it had been, I would give 5 stars and will definitely give this place another chance in spite of that. read more

I love Java Love! I've been coming here occasionally for a few years now and it's always been a good experience. Nice people and good coffee is a win in my book. I love the creative/unique flavors they have- there's one right now called Oh My Love that's a mocha with strawberry syrup that's delicious. It's actually even better with raspberry syrup :) They've had this drink since Valentine's Day and it's currently April, thought it was a special for the holiday but I guess not! I hope they keep it. read more

I visited this coffee shop about a week ago, figured I would support a local business in Montclair when I observed a menu chalk board with Halloween themed names for various teas and coffees. One of these names was "Spook-Tea" and the tea just happened to be a Black tea. Now you can chalk this up to an oversight and coincidence no pun intended as this is a serious matter and extremely offensive but when I expressed my concern and frustration over a sign with a slur hanging in their store, the name wasn't immediately changed. Several other patrons voiced their concerns with me once they realized, but the folks at the counter said they couldn't make the change until the manager came in. I went into this store two more times in subsequent days to see if the corrections were made, it took 3 days but eventually the tea was changed to "Spooky-Tea" which I didn't have a problem with. I did notice at that time however that there was a sign at the register up that said "Kind People Matter" which to me felt like another slap in the face as many black people would find that to be an unnecessary trivilization of Black Lives Matter. I'll let future patrons decide the intent here but as a customer who supported this business many times over the years I'm saddened to see that they just don't get it. I was willing to overlook the first incident but this just feels like apathy and or a willingness to offend. At least that's how I was made to feel, and from what I gathered in my conversations with one batista, I wasn't the only person expressing similar feelings. read more

This coffee spot is so cute and perfect for college students. The baristas were so accommodating when I wanted to switch things up and my coffee was great. My daughter opted for an organic dairy free yogurt that I honestly thought she would hate (she's 2) but she damn near licked the container lol! Very cute little shop in beautiful montclair, new jersey. Cappuccino was very well made and their chocolate croissant was decent as well. Pretty small space which explains the tiny table tops which is hard to place a laptop and enjoy your coffee at the same time, but a decent spot regardless. read more

Despite my rating - There is one extremely RUDE & disgusting blonde female employee who works here who has a piss poor attitude. I have never been & felt so disrespected as a consumer until I had the "pleasure" of having her take my order.. Disregarding my previous statement however - the REST of the staff is actually so kind, sweet, eclectic & cool. This little coffee shop is cute. Java Love has great options in coffee. I wouldn't necessarily consider myself to be a coffee snob - but I am very particular about my tastes & likes in different roasts so idk you tell me lol. My favorite niche about this place is that in their "daily brew" menu they have the notes of the brews & coffees they have which is SO helpful to determine maybe what you might be in the mood for. My favorites in rotation are the Costa Rican Rio Negro & House Blend & a specific one that I can't quite remember unfortunately lol. When I have time before my morning clients & my commute I always make it my mission to stop by here & get a soothing cup of coffee to start my day (as long as that sour employee isn't working). read more

I didn't love Java Love. My Americano was weak and not that flavorful but the service was prompt and friendly, so that counts for something. They offer several baked goods, mostly vegan/gluten free, to no surprise. Not my jam personally, but it fits the Upper Montclair bill. read more

Wish I would've taken a picture of the vanilla coconut monut before we ate it! Delicious vegan and gluten free. What else can you ask for in a desert! Their signature cold brew w lemonade and elderberry was amazingly one of the best drinks I have ever had. Talk about an exotic drink!!! Java Love is my favorite spot for grab and go coffee in Montclair. They offer a wide variety of blends and special coffee drinks. One of my favorites is the "dirty grandma" chai. There were hints of cinnamon and nutmeg that gave it a sweet spice flavor. I also enjoy the "monuts" which is a muffin shape with a donut batter. I have tried the plain and also the Nutella. I would have liked to have a bit more Nutella filling in there though. The shop also has a good amount of space with seating to the side so if you wanted to sit, sip your brew, and hang out there is a nice ambiance to do so. read more

Quality coffee at fair prices with an exceptionally friendly staff. This place is a small, independently owned coffee shop that is new to the area, and I'm a fan. The coffee is robust and flavorful with a fresh taste. The owner seemed delighted for our business and could not have been any friendlier, taking the time to explain all they had to offer. Keep in mind that this is a shop for coffee and pastries only. There is no hot food--at least not yet. They have a nice--though curious--arrangement with The Little Daisy Bake Shop just up the road on Valley. The Bake Shop provides many of the pastries sold at Java Love, while Java Love provides the coffee for the Bake Shop. Win-win as far as I'm concerned. We sampled several of the pastries and were impressed. They are offering their own roasted beans at about $15/lb, and they will grind it to your preference. Between the service, coffee, pastries and price, I'm certain to return. read more

I ended up bought a steak ale and mushroom pie, an Apple raspberry and blackberry pie, and numerous chocolate and candy. As I left I saw the scones. The owner gave me a strawberry scone on the house. The steak pie was so good. For $27 it had tons of meat inside. The sauce was just perfect. The scone was heavenly. I didn't even put butter on it. Will try the apple pie tomorrow. The best way to describe it was a like it came from a chain supermarket - lacking flavor and not up to fresh quality. The only one that was edible was the chocolate slice. We felt so bad to have to throw away the other two cakes, but they were not good at all. It was a waste of money to pay so much for a slice and not eat it.

I personally got bananas foster French toast which was to die for. My mom got the two carrot cake pancakes which came with cream cheese icing and she loved them. My husband got the Southwest Breakfast bowl which was also a winner. If anything, he probably would've wanted an additional egg to have a little more liquid. My sister got the morning protein wrap and she liked that too. My brother in law is allergic to eggs and lactose intolerant so he opted for a build your own burger with onions and avocado. It came with nice crispy fries which we all were able to enjoy. Another winning experience at Toast!
