The cappuccino is wonderful, but I think my favorite so far is the iced coffee. The Sumatran Aceh Gold was tasty, and I found the staff friendly, happy, and fun. I love that they are featuring all local products in their case and gift areas. If I had my wish, I'd want more seating, but I suspect a lot of people will be stopping in for coffee on the go. The only reason why I'm giving them 3 stars is because they somehow ran out of ice on the hottest day of the year so far. I've been here a few times since they are close to where I live and it's on the way to the train. Overall, it's a decent cafe. I can usually find a seat, even on the weekends. Their specialty drinks like the lattes and chai lattes are good. I ordered one of their regular coffees and didn't like it. It was very boring and tasted almost bland. Also, the last time I was there, the barista accidentally didn't mark my order correctly on the cup so instead of a chai latte with almond milk, they had made a regular latte with almond milk. When he went to make my new one, I asked if I could keep the mistake and he said yes so yay two a free coffee! Will come back again, but mostly for convenience sake. read more

Place was super cute! I got the peter cotton tail vanilla latte. I love the vibes of the inside and frankly my latte was dam good! I think the board was difficult to understand. I'm not sure if it was because I stopped in during the middle of a work day so my head was going a mile a minute, but for some reason I found the menu layout a bit strange. The guy at the counter was also a bit awkward. He asked if I was paying for my friends drink and then told me it's the gentlemanly thing to do. Starbucks ain't got nothin' on Java Love!! Love is the perfect word to describe my affection for this tiny and quaint cafe nestled in the heart of Upper Montclair. I'm not a huge coffee drinker...in fact, I don't even own a coffee maker. But there's a certain something about going to a cafe to get the creative juices flowing. I was tired of the overcrowded and overrated Starbucks crowd, so I stumbled upon Java Love in a desperate attempt to find somewhere to write material for my web site. I was not disappointed. I absolutely love hanging out here. My favorite drink is the Winter Wonderland which has almond milk (I don't do dairy). There are some killer gluten-free Vegan breakfast bars that make the perfect accompaniment to your coffee. The staff is very laid-back and really nice. The prices are comparable to Starbucks, but the atmosphere is way better and the people overall, including the patrons, are much nicer. I can spend hours here and it feels like minutes. If you're looking for a casual coffee joint with free wi-fi, and great coffee and snacks, the Java Love is for you. I even love that they don't kick anyone out. New independently owned coffee shop in Upper Montclair that just opened hours before we arrived. The two enthusiastic knowledgeable owners roast their own coffee. They also, to our delight, took the time to discuss with us which farms supply their beans, their relationship to those farms, their roasting method, and how they actively maintain their high quality fresh roasted coffee within their strict organic, fair trade, and other admirable guidance. They also are active in many other local and worldwide community organizations. The brewed coffee I tried, Good Morning Brew, was a fresh medium bodied brew that was far beyond any brewed coffee I had at any chain coffee shop. We visited this morning with my wife...we're both avid coffee lovers and live near Montclair. Java Love definitely has the ambiance right - cozy and rustic, pillows and high chairs with seats. Very nice presentation, but that's where it kind of stops for the experience.. The choices are slim, maybe 12 options. Good prices, though, but the quality of the drinks were what killed us. My wife got an iced chai latte, and I got a cappuccino. BOTH drinks were extremely bland -- the chai latte had a HINT of chai, and the capuccino was also flavorless (besides the steamed milk topping). I love Starbucks iced coffee but I'm excited that there's a non-chain alternative uptown where I can get my fix. Java Love is a bit more expensive though -- $3.05 for a medium here, while Starbucks does a medium for $2 and some change. I'm no coffee expert but I know this coffee is strong and good. The barista who got my coffee was very friendly and apologized for the iced coffee being served in a paper cup. He said they ran out of plastic cups, but based on the other reviews, it seems as if they never had plastic cups to begin with. Hmm... Two more tidbits - soy milk is available for no extra charge and there is live music on Mondays from 6-8. Cool! read more

Great service. Didn't expect that did you? I tried a new brew one Monday and loved it. Forgot to buy a bag of beans though. Next Monday I was back and asked the name of the medium roast from the prior week. Thought for sure they wouldn't know such a thing. Barista told me to wait a second and checked in the back for me, and got the name! That extra above and beyond meant a lot to me. Oh yeah, and I love the coffee and the atmosphere of the cafe. This is a great local coffee spot- with the cool, progressive vibe. It's not like your basic starbucks joint or local joe coffee spot. It has that Upper Montclair feel- and definitely knows its customers. I've been to a bunch of cafe's in California and this one reminds me of them.. They are conscious with nut allergies, and I appreciate their milk alternatives like almond, and soy. Not a lot of places offer almond milk- btw (except the cafe at Wholefoods). Their ingredients are definitely better, which have a more natural taste. I appreciate their global consciousness when selecting their coffee beans, and their homemade scones are out of this world. The service is pretty good too.. always the cute artsy student working behind the counter... very fitting. Lattes, cappuccinos and espresso drinks are expertly executed, as opposed to starfu*ks where they just press a button on a machine. Not only do they roast their own coffee and make an amazing cappuccino and a Rome-worthy macchiato, they also are locally-owned and have a very friendly staff. They make an excellent latte, as if you were in Brooklyn or Manhattan. Scones are good, not great, but tasty enough. They should be more flakey, not chewy (I had the cherry almond) and use less sugar. Not a breakfast place but you can get a cup of boxed oatmeal which is surprisingly tasty. I just tried to java love for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I really like it and have gone back since. The iced coffee was very good and served in a cute mason jar and one day I tried the Dragon iced chai and it was really delicious -- not too sweet and quite spicey!
