I don't think you can go wrong with what you order. Definitely fusion of authentic with a modernized American feel. Cocktails were excellent and recommend their Tamarind Spicy drink, don't remember the name but it was so good. Unfortunately no photos cause we weee hungry and just cleared out the food as it came out. Service is straight forward. We got what we needed with a bit wait due to the fact the place is BUSY!

It's quite small inside, so very understandable. The menu is quite extensive, with a selection of noodle soups and pan fried noodles. We got the chicken student noodles, which came out rather quickly. I loved the texture of the noodles, as they had that bounciness to them. Portions are big and totally worth it to share among the table. Highly recommend this! Cambodian food is definitely a rarer cuisine to find, so this is definitely a must try if you are ever in Long Beach!

Of course, an order of Pad Thai, 2 orders since I have 5 hungry people to feed. Also, I ordered the Thai coconut soup, I think it's called Tom Kha with chicken. One more noodles dish was the Drunken Noodles, it's kinda like Chinese Chow Fun, but has a more spicy flavor and basil in it. The food was all pack and bagged for me to take back to the hotel. We used my room since I have a bigger room. We had plates and set ups for all five of us and we re-plated the food on the serving plates that came with the room. The patio itself was beautiful and I did enjoy the ambience, besides having flies constantly in your food. The pricing here... insane. If the food was melt in your mouth good, I could easily justify, but for 1 salad, 1 order of bread and an 1 entree and tip, the total should not have been $90. The small Mexican coke was $6... that's insane. I can appreciate that they are locally sourcing food and I would hope they are paying their employees well, and everyone so taken care of. But overall, the value of money and quality of food did not do it for me. I did notice the portions on the salad were inconsistent based off of the other tables around us. I would hope for a $22 salad, I would have liked to have a little bit more. I think there is an illusion that the salad is big based on the fact that the lettuce is not cut and they put an absorbent amount of cheese on top. (Don't get me wrong, I love cheese, but they did not give a chance for the dressing to stand on its own) The bread and butter were the only thing I will say was good. Solid 7/10. I think if they added garlic and pepper into dipping oil, it was elevate this a bit. The fact that this is served warm definitely adds to the taste. The "fresh" made gnocchi is house.. was not good. This dish was a ricotta gnocchi. For nearly $30, this was the smallest plate of pasta I have ever gotten. I continued to look around and everyone got extremely small portions of pasta. That aside.. this gnocchi was not good and too undercooked. The sauce tasted honestly like a chef boyardee sauce, with a little bit of a fish after taste, and no ricotta. It did taste like slight parm, which, even if a little bit more Parmesan was added, maybe this would've tasted a bit better. But apparently all the Parmesan was reserved only for the salads. (This dish was supposed to have a duck base, but this was not cooked properly) not only was I simply turned off by this dish, there was nobody by to help or even get it to go box. But quite honestly, I just left the food which is so sad. Left over pasta is always so good but I really could not continue eating this as I truly did not enjoy the taste. I left hungry and sadly disappointed.

We ended up order two pizzas with one being the Ragu that was just ok, and the other being the Fried Eggplant that was very good. To you it off we all tried the Pistachio Custard that was a nice end to the meal. The place does get busy so you may want to make a reservation. They do have a big parking lot but parking can still get tight. As for the staff they are all very friendly and welcoming. They also do a really good job of keeping the place neat and clean.

The Taste: AMAZING The Service: extremely friendly, informative service The Place: clean, cozy, good environment ------------ My mother always told me that it's not what you're eating that truly matters, it's how it was prepared. When I was a child, she was able to convince me to eat my broccoli because apparently it was made with careful thought , making that broccoli the best in the world. What does this have to do with Appu's cafe? Well it's very clear that all the food is prepared with immense care, with adequate thought about taste and presentation, and with just the write amount of love to make the food unparalleled. I was lucky enough to visit Appu's cafe JUST before rush hour at noon. This meant that I had the unique privilege of interacting with VR the store's owner. Unsure of what to order, I asked VR what his recommendations were. I believe his exact words to me were "I think you'll enjoy the Maharaja Burrito, a burrito fit for a queen!" Apparently maharaja, is the term for Indian royalty. I was very curious about what exactly made this burrito unique, so I intently watched its preparation. VR added this spice and that, and did so with such finesse, all while holding a conversation with me about the cafe's mission. Apparently, Appu's cafe aims to make food that is delicious and healthy. There are no butters, no oils, and most importantly, there is no meat. As a vegetarian, this really appealed to me. But I was curious as to whether he was able to make food that satisfied the meat-lover's appetite. This question was answered by another customer enjoying his food. Apparently, he eats lunch there just about every week day and is now a weekday vegetarian! He loves the food THAT much! Once I got my Maharaja burrito handed to me, less that 5 minutes after ordering, I took my first bite. It was different from any burrito I had ever tasted--an interesting fusion of Indian spices and cooked vegetables, all in the guise of a traditional Mexican burrito! Appu's cafe is one of Long Beach's hidden gems. Delectable food that you have to get your hands on, whether you are visiting or are a Long Beach native. Serves a good mix of Italian, California Mexican, Indian, and breakfast items. Need help deciding what to eat? The owner, who introduces himself to customers as they walk in, is very knowledgeable and helpful in suggesting options. The California-style Breakfast Burrito is a staple must-have - potatoes, eggs, and mild cheeses, grilled to perfection in a soft tortilla. Sheer serendipity brought us to Appu's. We were leery of eating at a hole-in-the-wall cafe at, of all places, a doctor's office building. And now I am writing this 5-star review. It was a pleasure conversing with the owner VR. His love and passion for feeding his customers wholesome and healthy food was what touched us the most. The Pav Bhaji and Samosa Chat that we ate were outstanding. But the conversation with VR on how he saved his life by learning to eat right was the high point of our visit. Albeit a small menu, VR is very creative indeed. No matter what you order, you can rest assured that you've had the tastiest meal possible for the least number of calories. I was extremely impressed with this wonderful cafe and it's unique and healthy concept. After my doctors appointment I went to try out the restaurant. I was greeted with a warm welcome and introduced to the passion of the chef and his dedication to great health. I ordered the masala omelet and fell in love with the sandwich! It was delicious and the health benefits and how it was created was out of this world. Full of flavor and goodness I am now a fan of Appu's and shall be eating their every chance I get! The place is hidden behind a building (hole-in-the wall place) and I had some trouble locating it. The lady doing the customer service and cooking is very friendly and helpful. I tried the Rice bowls with different type of soups and it tasted good. Not very authentic, but good. It was not very expensive either. Tried the lemongrass chai too, which was great. They serve only vegetarian (including eggs). It was not crowded at all, I did go around 2 PM. I've eaten Indian food all over India and California, but I can't say I have eaten any better than Appu's Cafe. It's amazing how VR can cook with minimal or no oil and still have his food so flavorful and delicious. The fact that everything is low in fat and not overly salty makes it all the better, especially since flavor is never compromised. As a vegetarian for over 30 years (I am 64) I have eaten at many places around the country and even in China. VR the owner takes an interest in your particular taste and their food is absolutely delicious. It is hard to find, but I go to Bixby Pharmacy in the Woodruff Medical Building and it is in the back. Every time I need a script filled which is often at my age, I get something for lunch and a take out for dinner. It is great and VR is the best! read more

The place is hidden away inside a medical centre.The food was really good, healthy and every meal was well thought of. They have a very novel way of making mushroom soup. The service was surprisingly amazing. The lady at the front gave me samples of the soups without me even needing to ask! I ordered the rice bowl with a mix of the mushroom soup and the spinach soup. This food is amazing but the thoughtfulness of the owner makes this an unbelievable experience!
