This place used to be so good! My wife and I would alternate between here and Harners before COVID. We ordered carry out from here every weekend when COVID hit. I went there with my sister on March 16th for a birthday breakfast @ 10:15. The waitress was so slow with taking our order; refilling drinks, and getting us our check. I went up to the cashier with my credit card to try and pay the bill. They gave it to the waitress to handle it. The food was very good though. Fast forward to today. We brought our AZ friends here at 10:30 for breakfast. I waited 30 minutes for any service before going to the front desk to find out who our waitress was; her name was Pam. Pam came around 10 minutes later and we gave her our drink orders and food selection. The drinks, then food came pretty quickly, but one of the orders was wrong and had to be remade. Pam said the kitchen got it wrong and the order was correct the second time. My crepes were great, but my wife's eggs were overcooked and the ham was very dry. They used to be so good! read more

In the past when we've gone here it's been really busy. When we went on Saturday morning it wasn't busy at all - I saw staff just hanging around and talking in the back (and not having customers to attend to). I enjoyed a breakfast bowl. I liked how I could choose my own mix-ins for it so I was sure to like it. It was so big that I was able to eat my leftovers on two other mornings! My boyfriend had a ham and cheese omelet that was tasty too. The place started to get more patrons as time went on, but nothing like it had been in the past. I like pancake houses, and I like having a nice breakfast out on the weekends. So began our taste-testing of pancake houses throughout the suburbs. We tried Apple Villa because it is one of the closest to where we live. I had an omelet with pancakes, and my friend had an apple pancake. My omelet was very good; one of those oven-baked ones rather than on the stovetop. The omelet is the reason it got two stars. I have to say that I was terribly disappointed in the pancakes. If a pancake house doesn't have tasty pancakes, what's the point of going? My friend enjoyed the apple pancake well enough, and wouldn't be opposed to going back, even though it's not the best he's had. As for the regular pancakes, they were awful. I ate one bite and wouldn't eat the rest of them. If you're in the mood for an omelet or some eggs - basically, anything but the pancakes - go ahead and give them a try. But if you'd like outstanding pancakes, you could head to IHOP and get better ones. read more

I ordered a vegetarian crepe with hollandaise sauce, mushrooms and artichokes; potato pancakes and a caramel mocha cappuccino. Delish! We placed an order on Monday May 2nd for breakfast pick up on May 8th. I had surgery on the 6th and knew I would not be able to out to eat on my birthday/mother's day. Apple Villa charged my credit card on May 2nd for the amount. About an order before my daughter was going to pick up the food, Apple Villa cancelled our order. When we called to question this, we were told that they don't take pre-orders on busy days so they canceled it. Both people we spoke with were rude. We support this restaurant weekly and during the pandemic. We certainly won't again. read more

Food is good but I think they are giving you less on carry outs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our pancakes were about 60% their normal size along with hash brown portions for the same price as dine in. They didn't deserve a tip either but I should have looked in the bag first. If a normal meal doesn't fit in your carry out containers, then get another one or drop your price. I called back and brought these issues to their attention. This WAS my favorite breakfast place as a kid so coming back today was a huge disappointment. My food was disgusting, i asked for a breakfast sandwich and what i got was 3 sausage patties, scrambled eggs, and english muffins that had been MICROWAVED to melt cheddar cheese on them; all deconstructed on a plate. I love this place! Every time I stopped for eat here I have not been let down. The food is to die for and full of options at a very reasonable price. The staff their is always a delight, especially Bobbie. She is always there when I go to visit and even recognizes me now! She is such a sweet heart and always comes by asking how I am. I am very grateful they are doing pick up and delivery as I need my Apple Villa fix almost weekly! This restaurant definitely gives you a sense of belonging. I had a business breakfast at Apple Villa this morning. First off, being your appetite, I think I was the only one of the 5 at my table who actually finished my meal not because it want great just because of quantity. I got the chorizo skillet. The eggs were cooked excellently, the chorizo had good flavor without excessive oiliness which is a common issue with Chorizo. It came with a side of plain pancakes which are good in their own right. Very dissatisfied with this place and the false description of the item I ordered. I visited today 5/12/19 for Mothers Day and ordered the Monte Cristo. It states that it's dipped in their home made batter but what I received was just a ham, turkey and Swiss sandwich on French toast. Nothing was "dipped" unless it was the bread for the French toast and the description does not state that which I feel is very misleading and falsely advertised. Also, any place I have ever gotten a Monte Cristo it was served with raspberry sauce but this place didn't have any and offered me strawberry jelly. Sorry but that is not the same. I explained to my server that I did not want another meal, as I would have to wait, make my family wait, and once it was ready, watch me eat my food after they've been done for a while! She understood, and went to her GM... She came back, and said that he agreed to take $2.00 off the bill... Well..... Obviously I wasn't happy with that!! I asked her if I could speak with him, and offer an explanation of why only $2.00 was taken off. Our server said that he was "too busy"......... WELL THANKS FOR THE SLAP IN THE FACE. As someone who's worked in the Food Service/Customer Service Industry, when you have an unhappy customer, you don't tell them that you're too busy. So... I contemplated telling our server that we weren't paying at all (I'd bet the GM would talk to me then)... BUT I didn't want my Family waiting any longer than they already had. I told the server that we wouldn't be back, and that we would be writing this review... She seemed apologetic, and seemed like she cared. People came in to the restaurant after us and were getting their food already.. So we got up and just walked out!!! Three weeks ago we were there and we watched a family with two handicaps children being ignored.. The waitress just kept walking pass them, like they had a contagious disease.. So rude!! This place is amazing!! We found it on accident with hungry kids and the service was impeccable. It was out to us in less than 10 minutes, hot, steaming and delicious. The pancakes are to dies for!! 5/10/2020 - Ordered food direct with Staff (9:25 am), took credit card and charged, then advised to arrive in 1 hour wait outside - staff would call name. Arrived at 10:15 am (no one likes cold eggs/pancakes) - noting it was cold and raining. Waited a long time - only names being called "Door Dash". Attempted to call - line only rang busy, family called from home - no answer. Staff that come out to call names refused to answer any questions. Left at 11:45 am. Received call from a phone number that came up as Gurnee, IL at 12:00 PM. "YOUR FOOD IS READY". I will never, ever give any of my business to this restaurant again. If they refuse to reverse the charge on my credit card I will file a grievance with the Better Business Bureau. This is how they choose to treat one of their regular customers!! Update received phone call, again identified as a number in Gurnee, IL at 12:30 pm., answered - "your food is ready" - spoke to owner/manager "Bobby" - pretty much stating that this was to be expected 2+ hour wait, even though advised when food was ordered - 1 hour. "we have over 70 orders - what do you expect?" - "we shut our phones off, we stopped taking orders" - what about calling people to advise no food for hours "we were too busy, what do you expect due to this Corona Virus thing??" - I was trying to help keep you in business - now you have lost my business for good". read more

Food is average. I asked to get a "cup of berries" as a side instead of hasbrowns. They told me I cannot substitute, I had to pay 4 DOLLARS extra for the "cup of berries"(as written on their menu), it ended up being a tiny cup of honeydew melon and cantaloupe. I was not at all impressed with Apple Villa and to be quite honest, am both shocked and disappointed to see so many people rewarding this place with four and five star reviews. The food here is not great; in fact, I have a hard time even calling it average. The food is greasy, under-seasoned, and in some cases, under-cooked. If you're looking for a heart attack served on a plate, you'll find it here. And if you opt for something healthier, expect healthy to = bland. The restaurant decor is completely outdated, dark and ugly, if I may be so blunt. I have seen some beautifully done brunch restaurants, including Nosh in Geneva and the Meli Cafe in Chicago, and this does not even come close. The restaurant looks as though it's been unchanged for the past two decades, and perhaps it has. Unfortunately, outdated restaurants often make me think dirty restaurants, and judging by the number of crumbs on my seat left over from a previous customer, the restaurant probably could use a deep clean. I actually don't find it cute/fun that the servers wear Chicago Bears regalia to work, and I suspect that if this place were ever visited by Chef Robert Irvine or Chef Gordon Ramsey, they too wouldn't find the attire appropriate for a restaurant supposedly serving quality food in a high-class environment. Uniforms aside, I did not find the service to be altogether friendly, though it certainly was quick. If you're looking for a great brunch place, just drive two more blocks to Lumes Pancake House at the corner of Randall and Fabyan. It's far superior to Apple Villa. Don't forget Nosh as well - now there's a quality breakfast! read more

I don't know what the other reviews are talking about. Are they cranky when at breakfast? Woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Crabby because heaven forbid they had to wait a few minutes on a weekend for breakfast? Everything is fresh, the coffee (Intelligentsia, yum!) was delicious, the food was good. They even brought out fresh cream. The menu was filled with breakfast staples and some new things to try. Pancakes were delicious, omelets packed with ingredients, servers friendly and attentive. The western crepe could have been better, but that's just a preference. Granted, we went on a weekday and didn't have to wait like other commenters. Is the decor hip and cool? No, but that's okay, I'm not paying for that. We were torn between 4 and 5 stars but ultimately, couldn't find anything wrong with this place. My husband is stingy with his stars and said to go with 5. If you're looking for a solid breakfast joint with decent prices, try Apple Villa and their pancakes. read more

There are several things on my wishlist/checklist that make breakfast out an enjoyable and magical experience. Here are a few 1. Properly poached eggs. This is incredibly important to me. Poached eggs should be medium- hard white with a runny yolk. 2. Good coffee. I believe this is self-explanatory. 3. Turkey sausage and/or really good bacon. 4. Smiling service. It's morning, and if you work at a breakfast place, you should probably be a morning person. 5. The option for really delicious sweet breakfast (should I ever decide to stray from eggs). 6. Dum Dums at the front. Preferably mango flavored. 7. Servers in Bears Jerseys. Oh yeah! Apple Villa Succeeds in the preceding. There are yet a few others that could be added to make me never need another breakfast facility in my life (chorizo, avocado, or goat cheese anywhere on the breakfast menu and savory crepes), but still a stellar and delightful breakfast with a super peppy server. The manager is appalling. I asked for my steak cooked rare. They refused - saying it was unhealthy. They offered medium-rare, but provided well-done. Refused to provide a medium-rare replacement. This prompts concern about UNSAFE FOOD HANDLING AND STORAGE. Otherwise, a rare strip steak is perfectly safe. Funny, they didn't hesitate to provide eggs over-easy. We had pancakes, sausage, potato cakes, and eggs benedict. Service by our waitress was friendly and nice. I had the oatmeal cakes - which sounded tasty but actually just tasted like plain oatmeal. although it was topped with a raisin syrup, it just didn't do it for me. Apple Villa..I loves you. It's consistent. I always have good to excellent service, and the one time they forgot about us we were given free OJ..I'm a sucker for a discount!! I've been coming to Apple Villa since moving to the area about 10 years ago and I'm down with it, the atmosphere is chill and laid back, I feel they reasonably separate the crazy families from the elderly and hungover people, aka my section and the food is bomb. It is usually pretty packed on the weekends, especially Sunday although I usually don't get there til late...say noonish. Their omelets and skillets are great and huuuge but since turning over a healthy leaf I've been getting the Apple Villa Lite, it's so delicious and well balanced, and for a place to serve something that makes healthy eating enjoyable...well, I'll let the stars do the talking. read more
