arrived at the Apple store around 5 PM. The store was not extremely busy. There were many workers who were chatting with each other. No one acknowledged my entrance into the store. The young lady who holds the iPad and is suppose to direct customers to the services they need did not acknowledge me. I waited patiently for a worker to help me purchase my iPhone charger. Many workers who were chit chatting looked at me but did not ask me if I needed help. The young lady with the iPad gave me a glare and mouthed "just a minute". Yet, she went to greet another customer who walked in AFTER I did. A worker who was helping another customer tried to call a worker who was free to help me but the worker did not turn around. I had to raise my tone louder and ask someone if they could help me as they walked passed me. The lack of customer service really did make my experience a bad one. I do not feel welcomed into the store and I certainly do not feel like a valued customer. I own many Apple products and I have never had a problem with Apple's customer service for over 5 years. Never have I had such poor service in Apple store in all of my life. I entered the store with my son to buy a computer for my wife and an iPad for him. After a few minutes we were helped by a very nice lady who seems to be in a hurry. Once we decided on the computer for my wife we wanted to discuss the iPad. She quickly rang up the computer and asked me to pay. Before I I knew it she had left. I needed to go back up to the front of the store and get back in line to find another person to help me with the iPad. Very weird to say the least. After 20 minutes of waiting in a virtually empty Apple Store, I went to the manager Mikey De Kaiser who is standing there straightening out charger cords at a table. I asked If he would be able to help and he immediately said no. He explained to it was not his job to help customers because he needed to supervise the store. After waiting another 10 minutes and watching him chatting with another coworker I approached him again to ask he if he could help. He became belligerent and dismissive. He just looked down at his feet and seemed very uneasy and explained again that he cannot help me. He then walked away. The most inept and lazy manager I have ever encountered. He proceeded to go and flirt with a young female customer who came in the store. Almost an hour later since first entering the store I was helped by a nice young man. Never again will I go to the Apple store in Berkeley. I cannot believe Mikey is the manager. I've always had exceptional service at all the Apple stores I visited. after emeryville called and held a display for me I went in to purchase it. there were approximately 3 employees on the floor to each customer in the store. identified by their dress code and lanyards. you would think walking in with my credit card in one hand asking to purchase something on hold would be simple and quick, but youd be wrong like I was. after 20 min someone came to me with the display and took my credit card, not once looking me in the eyes. charged my card and I left, never to return again, nor be an apple customer again. read more

My experience was also very poor at the Apple Store in Berkeley. I purchased a new I-phone and was to be helped with transferring all my information (contacts, text messages, email etc.) from my old I-phone onto the new phone. Here is where things stand: For contacts, the trash can contact list was transferred instead of the current contact list that was on my old I-phone - I am now sifting through hundreds of irrelevant contacts to clean this mess up. Text messages were not uploaded. Only current email for my hotmail account was uploaded - no archives. My exchange email failed to be uploaded altogether. These guys sacrifice quality for speed and do not work as a team. The guy who helped me asked one of the guys at the "genius" bar for input but was brushed off. Too bad to have such a great product line associated with such poor service! Maybe its time to check out some other brands? read more

I've had apple products for about 10 years now and been to quite a few apple stores. By far this is the worst one. The usual warm and kind customer service apple is known for is non-existent here. Phone was not charging. Ready to go and get a new one at TMobile. Instead went in the Berkeley Apple Store on the off chance some one could help me before spending a lot of money on a new phone. After waiting a few minutes Sam said he could give it a shot, looked at the phone got a small wire and pulled out a lot of lint in charging slot. How Embarrassing! Without a doubt this has been the worst consumer experience I've had. I've spent over 3 hours now trying to speak with a human being to authorize repair of my iMac ... I brought it with a cracked screen, but it was usable and I didn't want to spend the $510 needed to repair the screen. Also the hard driver wasn't recognized. I authorized them to try to get the hard drive recognized. In the process they damaged the screen so it's now unusable. They say I signed something absolving them of responsibility... which was in the fine print. Okay ... now I just was to authorize the repair ... they've got a gun to my head because my computer is worthless without the repair. I've spent hours trying to just let them know I authorize it ... the phone rings 50-100 times and no one answers until the call gets dropped. So I call sales ... they put me on hold for 20 minutes and drop the call. I've asked for an email address to authorize it but they won't give me one. The don't text because Why? This is crazy ... how can a company like Apple have such poor customer service ... and repair technicians? read more

I have been here about 4 times to handle issues with Apple products. The staff are well trained, really well versed in their scripts, and polite. A few years ago, we spilled something on a laptop and they fixed it for free, because it was less than a year old. That was great. Since then, they have not offered help on product issues. They recommended to just replace, replace replace. Luckily we found another place to fix a manufacturing defect on the iphone instead of replacing it (just over a year old!) I have a new iPhone 4s. Yip-freaking-do. I have been an avid Blackberry user, but thought it might be fun to try out the 4s with the Siri, as I'm now a mom and thought the convenience would be helpful. Well, first go with iPhone is a major downer, as the speaker to hear calls is broken. Ok, so it's assembled in China and you can expect it to be a bit crappy. No big deal, return and get a new phone with working parts. Here's where this store failed and big! I call ahead to make sure they can do a swap-out no problem and the slightly rude person on the phone informed me that there are very very few available phones, but yes, they have a couple for the swap-out purposes like mine and I can come down to the store no problem. Great! So, I quickly load myself and my son into the car for a quickie run to the Apple store T-minus 1 hour to nap time. I get to the store, eventually get a helper to let me know that to do a swap-out I have to have a technical appointment. Sorry, no technical appointments available today. Okaaay. So, to the rude person on the phone - you are probably young so apparently in our culture now we are overlooking the routine rudeness and surely attitudes - if you plan on speaking rudely and arrogantly to people on the phone, I strongly suggest that you at minimum give then the correct information. It might seem like nothing to have to return on a different day to deal with the phone situation, but wait until you have a kid in tow. My only happiness is that it is my generation that will be deciding your future employment status going forward, and let me tell you, it is not looking good for you. So far, my experience with Apple in general have been a ZERO, and this store in particular a 1, since at least the helper assigned to me was appropriately apologetic. Maybe next time I'm in I can get my kid to vomit on your floor! read more

I've gone to the Apple store two more times since my last review. The second time, the experience was pretty painless. I finally got my power adapter replaced, no questions asked (well, except for asking if I had Apple Care), AFTER the insulation very obviously melted off (lovely burning smell) and it completely stopped working. The person who set me up with the replacement gave me tips on preventing such issues (pretty decent customer service), but since it's such a common occurrence, you'd really think Apple should try to sacrifice a little by ways of appearance for a more robust design. This shouldn't be an issue... and $70+ for a replacement of an obviously defective product (assuming you don't have Apple Care) is ridiculous, considering how you're supposedly paying for a premium product. The 3rd time I visited the Apple store, I didn't have much problem getting what I needed done. I was nearing the end of my Apple Care period, and I had been holding off on getting a new battery, despite there being a warning that it wasn't acting normally and I was only able to get about ~1.5 hours of battery life out of it (not using my laptop intensively). My only complaint (pretty big one) with this experience was that the Genius I worked with seemed rather condescending. As a customer, I didn't appreciate having to feel bad about asking questions or seeing other customers being treated dismissively. It left a bad taste in my mouth. Customers come into the store with a varied range of tech know-how, and service reps should try to work with customers without perceived bias (none of that being curt with your response, because you don't think this person is worth your time attitude). Maybe things would go smoother then. Clearly, Apple needs some better quality control when it comes to customer service experiences. At least I got what I needed out of the store 2/3 times... +1 star. Oh, also, Apple needs to overhaul its Genius Bar appointment system. Even scheduling a visit is such a PITA now (what with 0 slots open several times that I tried to schedule one)... but from my first experience, I learned it's not worth the risk of going without first scheduling one... read more

I brought brand new phone 7 (unlocked) from Apple Store online paid full amount in $814.00. I used that phone out of country ad came back states, Its was not working with Verizon SIM card. I went to Berkeley store told them about my situation and shows proves of my reciept. Vanessa said we can't do nothing here for you, you got the wrong phone from online Apple Store. I try to explain my phone should be unlock I travel out of country it works out of country but doesn't work with Verizon in states. The Berkeley Apple store rocks!! Having had unpleasant experiences in other Apple stores, I was pleasantly shocked at how amazingly nice, helpful, prompt, and knowledgeable absolutely everyone I interacted with at the Berkeley Apple store was. The greeter (Monique) was friendly and efficient; the Genius Bar tech who helped me (Tim) was superb and even went out of his way to make sure my data transferred correctly to my new laptop, and the three staff helping me with iPhone questions were equally attentive and expertly addressed all of my needs. RE iphone 5. Yes I went to buy an iphone5, mostly because a specialist "sold " me on it and my iphone 4 has a cracked screen. So you cannot buy one, it's effing unbelievable. What really galls me is the unknowledgeable attitude about how to purchase one- some people are getting them. I ask how many does your store get,?how many today? Went in to get my iPhone 6 battery replaced, and they told me to come back in an hour...to change a battery....THEN when I came back, they couldn't find me in their system...infuriating, no? THEN...when I found the guy who worked with me, I was able to get them to confirm that I had, in fact, been there and that I had, in fact, given them my phone for the battery switch out....THEN they told me that they couldn't find my phone, that it wasn't with any of their "Genius"es. 45 minutes later, for a total of about 1 h and 45 min, they told me that my phone "was in a different area where it wasn't supposed to be" and that a Genius was working on it now to replace the battery, which only takes 10 minutes. Sooooo, 2 h of my time for a task that should only take 10 minutes for an appointment that I had made a week earlier noting that this was the task at hand. What a sh*t show. Both for this particular site, and for Apple. Their staff, along the way, was a bit uppity, considering they were a mess in the front dealing with customers, and in the back where things where devices were being fixed. read more

I love Apple products but this review is based on the customer service I received at this specific store. After checking out the Apple website, I decided I wanted to get a mac book pro and an iPad mini. So I visited the Berkeley location hoping that I would get a better look and feel for the products I'm about to purchase. When I walked in, the store was just about empty but a lot of the employees just standing around fiddling with their devices. I had to ask if they were available to help me, the guy who did help me looked disinterested to even give me the time of day. Maybe it was the way I was dressed. Well, I like to dress down and throw on my poncho so don't judge this book by its cover. Anyhow, he kept walking away from me when I needed him to answer my questions of interest in their products. So rude! Now I'm feeling very awkward to go back today and pick up my products. I shouldn't have to feel this way as a customer, specially if I'm about to spend some money at their store. :-( read more

I suggest you stay very very far away from this Apple store. This store needs new management and a complete revamp in customer service training as well as apple product protocol. Horrible customer service from not only the Manager but the sales associates as well. To make an hour and a half nightmare in this store short - I went in to retrieve an online purchase. Ultimately the solution to me retrieving this item was to be listed as an approved recipient to pick up the order. Did the Manager inform me of this..NO..Did the 2nd female associate inform me of this ..No!instead she told me " well why did you order online?" seriously? because its 2017 and an option for most companies in 2017 especially a Billionaire dollar company such as apple, however what I was told is, we close at 8pm so therefore we won't be able to assist you and was left at a table to figure it out on my own not once but twice. It wasn't until I spoke with 2 Apple associated via phone call and had the pleasure of working with the apple stores associated Carrignton that I finally walked out with my online purchase after an hour and a half of being told NO by the Manager and a female associated. Apple needs to conduct an audit of this store and fire everyone who works under the Manger who's on the floor during the evening hours, including the Manger! Again, I suggest if there's another in store option available nearby go there an avoid this location at all cost! read more

Experience with the Apple store was not good. Very frustrating. The staff were disorganized and impatient They would not make an appointment for personal help in the store, but promised to call with technical support that would solve the problems. They called ten minutes later than they promised, and the representative was not audible. The call was cut off and no one called back. I tried to call to make an appointment, but got through to a machine. I would like to receive personal help with my I Phone and computer. I had understood that the "Genius Bar" could provide this help. I also needed glass protection for the phone, and they were finally able to do that, but to get help with this, I had to chase down an employee, and it took quite a bit of time for the employee to get the supplies he needed in order to affix the protection. The Berkeley store needs better organization so that customers can get the help they need. Perhaps a contact person in the front of the store who can direct the customer to the appropriate staff member or who can make an apppointment for those who need extended help. I had bought the Apple product because I had understood that Apple actually provided customer support. read more

I just had the worst repair service experience from this Apple store. Bottom line: no one would take responsibility for explaining anything. I never learned whether the service team had seen before the kind of problem that I was having, nor was I offered a copy of the diagnostic tests that were run on the computer until I asked for them. After two trips to the "genius bar" and having my computer under inspection for a week, I have no idea if the problem has actually been fixed. I do know that I got contradictory information from every "expert" I spoke with--until my computer was returned to me with no "expert" debrief. Worse yet, my discontent was met with what I can only describe as hostile cheerfulness. The basic attitude was "teflon": no one would take ultimate responsibility so they could happily do their part of the service piece with no sense of the big picture or concern for customer satisfaction. If the service in this store is an indication of where Apple corporate culture is heading, then my next computer will not be a mac. read more

I've had some good experiences here, but my most recent ones have been shockingly bad. It's as if the current national mood of rudeness, lack of empathy, and disdain for anyone who can't afford a beach house (or AppleCare) has taken hold in this particular store. A "floor lead" with initials VW was singularly sadistic, with a desire to "win" in a disagreement with a customer that led to her both lying to me and publicly shaming me for my inability to shell out Apple's exorbitant AppleCare cost. A manager contacted later was better, but despite clear evidence that VW had been extremely unpleasant to a customer, she (initial E) offered nothing but a tepid apology and a defense of the decisions VW had made. She did not offer the refund I (and Apple corporate) believed I was entitled to, and didn't even try to smooth things over with a consolation offer of any kind. I've been a loyal cult member for Apple since my first MacPlus in 1988, and I live in Berkeley, but I'll steer well clear of this store going forward. read more

I have been here a few times for various repairs, a couple of times to replace the power adaptors that always seem to get break at the connectors, and just yesterday to address a poltergeist cursor problem w/ my Air. In the last few months, there have been a few occasions in which the cursor develops a mind of its own and starts going all over the screen, clicking and selecting various items. Last time it happened I videotaped it with my iPad to make sure I had a record, because I was sure it was going to behave if I took it in. I got an appointment, and sure enough, when I took it in everything was normal. But when I described the problem, the genius dude said he knew what the problem was and didn't even want to see the video. He said it would take 2-3 days to replace the trackpad and connector. This was 5:30 Sat night. I told him I kind of needed it by Monday for work and he said they would try to get it done. I was out in 15 minutes. This (Sunday) morning at 10:30 am I got a call indicating that the laptop was ready. Went there and got the laptop in 5 minutes. All seems OK. Total time in Store less than 20 minutes. Everyone I met was super-nice and helpful. The appointments were prompt. The Mac was there less than 36 hours. The service was fantastic. Apple at its best. read more

My iPhone was just 19 days out of warranty, that's less than 13 months old. They smuggly tell me that it's a hardware malfunction and there is nothing they can do about it. The cost to replace on a like for like basis would have been $239 (and presumably the cost to them far less). All they can say is that I should have bought the extended warranty. With their bottom line they should produce products that actually last out the minimum phone contract. read more

My beloved iphone crashed at 7:30 tonight...I was a little frantic. Called the store and asked how late they were open...they made me a genius appointment for 7:50 (oh the joy of having this store right here in Berkeley!!!) I rushed down the hill, found a parking space across the street, got there a couple of minutes late and met a true genius...a little tinkering here, a little cleaning there and suddenly my dead iphone came to life...and then he taught this old dog a couple of new trips. And this two days before Christmas. He answered every one of them and sometimes with several options in non-geek, easy to understand English, and incredibly efficiently. Friendly, too. They told me you are required to have a reservation just to buy the phone and didn't have any more reservations. I have a 2009 macbook pro that I had purchased second hand from craigslist about two years ago, which I love and have never had any problems with it up until two weeks ago.The screen started to come apart from the computer itself. It looked as though apple had used glue to attach the glass screen to the aluminium case, and the glue had stopped holding. I called apple, and after a few general questions the woman helping me made me an appointment at the 4th st. apple store. I arrived about 10 minutes early, upset that my laptop was breaking but also expecting to be thrown out of the store given that my laptop was a 6 year old, second-hand, craigslist purchase. The genius handling my appointment was able to see me immediately, telling me that a second man, Eric, would be observing. Looking up the history of my computer, he told me that it had originally been purchased in France and that repairing it here would not be an option- they just don't have the parts. Ericn stepped in then, and told me that he was the senior manager of the store, and that he would work with me to try to find a solution to my unique problem that I would feel good about. Given the computers origin, repairing it, which would have been my first choice- was out of the question. Doing nothing was also not possible, I use my computer for work and the screen would eventually crash as it continued detaching. Eric recommended that I buy a new computer, and while I initially laughed as I didn't have $15,000.00 to spend on a brand new computer- he told me that he would discount it for me. Over the next week he worked with me, and also with apple, over the phone to bring the price down to something that I was able to afford. When I returned to the store to pick it up, he delivered exactly what he had promised to and I was in and out in 10 minutes. I thought that losing my computer right around the holidays would be terrible. I was incredibly impressed by how hard Eric worked to help me. I am incredibly appreciative. read more

Wow. Last night I had such an amazing experience at this Apple store, due to three EXTRAORDINARY employees who went above and beyond for me. I would like to commend Jocilee (sp?), Ryan, and Laney (sp?) for the incredible help they were to me. I had spent 2.5 (terrible, stressful) hours at the Sprint store earlier in the day trying to upgrade my phone to no avail. I finally was able to go through Apple to do what I needed to do, and went to pick up and set up my new phone there. Somehow, when we did the upgrade, it ended up upgrading my mom's phone instead, and because she lives in Phoenix we were put into an extremely hairy situation. Jocilee, Ryan, and Laney spent the next 2 hours (especially Laney!) trying everything in their bag of tricks to resolve the problem and get the upgrade to my phone number, including calling multiple Apple and Sprint folks and going through various avenues to figure out how we could fix it. Laney would not give up on it. She and Jocilee even stayed 30 minutes after store closing to finish the fix and spent mindful time putting my screen protector on my new phone when the problem was finally resolved. Managers of this store: PLEASE please please give these three a raise (hopefully I spelled their names right). They were so kind and thoughtful and committed to resolving the issue. Ryan noticed how stressed out I was from my day of poor experiences and was extremely kind to me from the very first moments. They deserve a huge raise!! I wish I had been allowed to tip them. I like this apple store, I have gone to quite a few others and never get approached my any sales people which I find to be quite annoying. I have learned that the best time to come is during the morning, and make an appointment on the apple site. At this location they have appointments starting at 7:50am! Way before the store opens at 10am, so I would suggest if possible to go in before the store opens a lot more time and attention brought upon to your issue. I have gone here previously and been greeted and helped right away, today when we (Husband, son and I) went in we were greater right away and a employee began helping my husband. Note: 1 appointment slot = 1 device. After about 30 minutes we were out of there. Over all the staff I have found to be helpful and friendly, the store if very neat and tidy like most apple store. Has a huge range of apple products on display to play with. In the morning parking there is so much parking out front which is nice, and the meters take both coins & cards! I would highly recommend this Apple Store to everyone, but remember it is always best to make an appointment! read more

Employees here made an errand I'd been totally dreading (possibly hours of being unreachable, sans phone, also possibly really expensive!) so much less painful than I'd ever expected. The screen on my iPhone was cracked again, a repair I'd previously had done at the Emeryville store, and this store took just one (one!) hour to fix everything. They even graciously helped me apply a screen protector after I messed up putting it on my newly-repaired phone. I can only imagine these folks get a lot of the same tech questions over and over and over but it didn't show at all; they didn't rush anything and made sure I was set. I had an accident with my iPhone... I stepped on it broke the screen and I think one of my kids stuck something into the headphone jack!!! I was screwed... "How much is this going to cost me?!?" AT&T wanted me to do an insurance claim $199 for a replacement.. Life proof cases don't cover cracked screens... SCREWED... Until I stepped into the Apple Store on 4th street in Berkeley, I ran into an Angel about 30 mins into the que.. her name is Charmayne Young. She was a charming young lady behind the counter at the Genius Bar! I was expecting the worst because I did it to my phone and I knew I was going to have to Pay.. Didn't complain, didn't whine, didn't get upset.. I Messed up. "What's this going to cost me?" 10 min into our conversation and while she was examining the phone and explaining how it was all physical damage which wasn't covered under the warranty.. She started typing on her iPad and digging in the drawer behind us.. She brought out a white box with a brand new iPhone 6.. How much was this gonna cost?!? $750-$850??? Im gonna do this for you as a one time courtesy.. Accidents happen.. You seem like a decent guy! WOW!!! I didn't have to pay a penny.. She hooked it up big time.. With a huge smile on her face and Mine I was out of there with a new phone! sorry for the long story.. But this young lady went above and beyond and I didn't even have to make a scene or ask for a manger or play any of those games. CHEERS TO YOU!! read more

I recently went in with a day old defective iPhone 5s that I bought at ATT store in El Cerrito. After the ATT store told me they couldn't help me, they sent me to Apple with no same day appointments available. It was 4pm on a Sunday and I was certain it would be a long wait to get help from Apple. Boy was I wrong. When I told someone what had happened with ATT refusing to assist me, the lead trainer of the Genius Bar (whose name I don't recall-oops) was assigned to help me. He was apologetic about the issue and was speedy in diagnosing the defect and issuing me a new phone. He then walked me through the appropriate set up, and was able to get ALL my data/apps from my old phone (4s) onto the new one remotely through iCloud -ATT had not done this on the first 5s, and I had been re-downloading apps individually, ugh). Overall it was a seamless experience, one that made me feel that my satisfaction was their highest priority. If you are ever purchasing Apple or seeking tech support, this is a great store to visit. read more

The best apple store everrrr. I went in recently just hoping they would fix the home button on my iPad mini but they ended up just giving me a new iPad! They're also super helpful when purchasing products. I've gotten multiple iPhones, iPads, and a Macbook Air here and all times I was helped rather quickly. Super helpful figuring out what you need and what you want to get out of your computer. The location is also ALOT better than Bay Street. read more

So slow. We make appoinments for a reason. If you are going to take people when you want, then there shouldn't be an appoinment system. I've been to numerous apple stores inclding the ones in LV, SF, OC, and NY and this was the worst. Don't go here for genius bar appointments. The one in SF has much politer staff and take your time seriously. read more
