We were VERY impressed with Apertivo! It is a cute, little spot with a nice and relaxing atmosphere, wonderful service and delicious food! Their lunch and dinner menus are very good! We had the nicest server and the talented chef even came out to greet us during dinner with some truffle fries (Yum!)! We cannot say enough good things about Apertivo! It already has all the elements needed for a great restaurant, and then you learn that they offered free meals to the workers (and their families) who were furloughed during the government shutdown and struggling without paychecks. An establishment who wants to help their community! I had a very well-crafted dinner at Aperitivo in its, simple, inviting and modern space, with votives and small flower arrangements on the tables. I generally don't write a review of a restaurant after only eating there once, but I loved and appreciated everything. The caesar salad was super fresh and had a great dressing that I found out does have anchovies in it, thank you, which added depth. It needed more lemon though. The half chicken braised until crispy and still juicy inside was absolutely outstanding, so perfectly cooked. The chef, Miguel Vazquez, who's from Mexico City, clearly knows his stuff. The "ragout" accompaniment was certainly an interpretation, an almost clear sauce with chopped tomato and I wasn't sure what else, I forgot to ask him. It was acidic but pretty flavorless. I'd suggest a lemon or orange beurre blanc instead, it's the classic French accompaniment to this chicken preparation. And wow, the chocolate mousse - creamy yet in a slightly drier style than is usual for mousses - was probably formed in a ramiken before being turned out onto the plate - was also outstanding. Aperitivo's small wine list is fine but they could easily seek out more interesting small producers. The music was soft. Parking available a little bit out from the circle that's in front of the restaurant down the street out to the west, and also in a small lot behind the brewpub to the south. Great job Sr. Vazquez. Been here several times sitting outdoors. Recently ordering the tuna-avocado salad. OMG delicious! One time tried the chicken-avocado salad, not quite as tasty but that's my taste buds. I'm a salad girl so that's what I've tried. I'm sure the rest of the menu is just as good. read more

We've been to this place many times hoping it will get better. Although the food is generally very good, my complaint has to do with the ambience. Please do something about the lighting. You might as well be in a cafeteria. The other issue is the smell. You walk in and you're hit with a rancid grease smell. My clothes smell when I leave, it's extremely offensive. The tables and chairs are designed so that it's to be a comfortable atmosphere, however they are too low and one feels like you're sitting with a TV tray for a table. Great little place to have a nice lunch. We stopped in to try it out as we're big fans of their other restaurant (Urban Thai in Longmont/Prospect). Had a nice bowl of Chicken Noodle soup coupled with a really good BLT. The soup is 'assembled' at order time so its not just sitting in a pot all day. The noodles were just done, the vegetables diced to perfection and just a little al dente. Bacon was crisp on the BLT. All in all perfection in my view. Just the right amount of food for a light lunch and you can walk to Finkel & Garf brewery or just enjoy the sun on porch. Give it a try. read more

I'm sad to write this, but it is necessary after my experience on Friday 9/18/20. We've been to Aperitivo many times, especially after they first opened. Living in Gunbarrel, this was a nice local treat. Our previous experiences were wonderful, good food, good drink, good atmosphere. That was all Pre-COVID. I haven't been there that recently before COVID struck, however, I can say, that post-COVID, our experience was horrible. The chicken alfredo and the salmon gorgonzola pasta dishes we ordered to go were awful. The sauce for both was essential the same, some generic roux/'white sauce' with no actual cheese or flavor. I don't know what this was, but it was not what was advertised. I think the the worst part of the experience, however, was the non-compliance with the state mask policy. Of the 4 people in the restaurant working behind the counter, only the guy at the register was wearing his mask properly. The guy making the drinks had a bandanna and it was under his nose covering his mouth only. The 2 cooks had both of their masks pulled all the way under their chins, nose and mouth completely exposed. We will not be coming back. read more

While the food is amazingly good, with only an hour for lunch I have never actually eaten it in the cafe...that's how slow the kitchen is; there's time for a single bite before boxing up the beautiful dish and heading back. Every lunchtime visit. Just yesterday, six of us called ahead before walking over at noon. There was a single person already drinking coffee at a table. We were warmly greeted and ready to order within minutes. After 30 minutes we asked that the plates be served as they were ready, rather than waiting for all to be served together: three dishes came to the table immediately; another a short while later; the fifth [a salad] much later, when the others were finished eating; the sixth was delayed so long that the waitress offered a free pastry just so I had something to eat! Aperitivo DOES NOT have a full kitchen. In fact, it's the size of a studio apartment's kitchen. I can respect the vision for this little gem, however, the menu items should reflect only dishes that can be prepared and served in a timely manner. The waitress was apologetic and explained that the cook was new, but two sandwiches, a salad, an omelet, a scramble, and soup aren't complicated dishes; unfortunately, they have to be prepared one-at-a-time in the tiny space. The waitress, as the face of the cafe, was forced to continuously apologize for this unfortunate decision of the owner. With nearby businesses and apartments, the location is prime for workday customers. It's sad that the owner isn't taking advantage of the opportunity, we could truly enjoy this lovely getaway. read more

Tonight, I had a wonderful dining experience at Aperitivo, a bistro in the Gunbarrel area, across from king Soopers. I had a scrumptio us scallop dish over wild mushroom risotto! So yummy! The risotto is delicious, a little pricey and if you are in a rush, this is not the right place for you. I put a 4 stars as the service is sometimes slow and some weekends you do not access to the pastries, all are gone in a hour. read more

A smart little cafe in the heart of Gunbarrel by Apex apartments (look for the blue umbrellas) run by the owners and a friendly chef and staff. You can find coffee drinks, a tapas menu, full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, along with a bar and nice wine list. Some the dishes and cocktails have a Thai flair, while others offer traditional fare that meets every expectation. My favs are the Caesar Salad with chicken, the BLT sandwich, the Panang Curry (just the right amount of spice) and the yummy French pastries. Pajama Sundays are becoming popular for breakfast. A piano and a nice selection of piped in jazz music round out this comfortable and cozy scene. Locals MUST try! I eat here at least once a week. read more

Where do I start? Hands down, they have the best coffee in Boulder. I am a foodie, and after trying most restaurants in Boulder, I only eat at three restaurants in downtown Boulder because of quality and price, Oak, Brasserie 1010 and Izakaya Amu. The rest are either overpriced or don't have the quality. So where does that leave Aperitivo? I just ate the scallops and risotto this evening. I moved from the East Coast. These scallops are better than any scallops I have eaten anywhere-perfectly cooked. I had waffles and fried chicken for breakfast the other day. This item beats any chicken and waffles anywhere else in Boulder. Previously, I had the paella. It was awesome. I am amazed of the quality for the price. Everything is homemade. I would highly recommend Aperitivo to anyone that enjoys quality food for the money. read more

We had a very good time there. It was our first time. It's a very nice setting. We happened to have a classic Boulder-area summer afternoon. Rain cooled the weather off. The drinks are interesting and well made. We had dinner and it was great. The special curry dish was classic in taste. The chicken Alfredo was rich and delicious.
